Studio Creates Petition To Remake Original Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Reportedly Received Ed Boon’s Blessing Back In 2016

2 years 4 months ago

Remakes and remasters continue to become more common with each passing year and as Mortal Kombat has reached 11 mainline entries, some fans are looking back at the series’ history, especially as its 30th anniversary nears.

If it was up to Eyeballistic, a game development studio with multiple titles in the works, that 30th anniversary would include a remake of the original Mortal Kombat trilogy. In fact, the studio has created a “Mortal Kombat Trilogy Remake Petition” on change.org to get this theoretical ball rolling, as first reported by Nintendo Life

Click here to watch embedded media

“Mortal Kombat’s 30th anniversary is next year and we’d like to honor this amazing franchise by remaking the original Mortal Kombat Trilogy (MKT) on PC and consoles,” the petition reads. “MKT is a classic game combining all of the characters from MK1, MK2, MK3, and UMK3. It also includes nearly all of the stages from those games.”

Melty Blood: Type Lumina Reveals New DLC Character Aoko Aozaki

2 years 4 months ago

Type-Moon revealed a brand new character that will be added via DLC to its 2D fighting game Melty Blood: Type Lumina.

The new character is Aoko Aozaki and she will be released on January 13.

In the meanwhile, you can enjoy a trailer, a few screenshots, and an official description from Type-Moon.

“One of only five magicians who exist in the world.
Successor to the Fifth Magician. Overall, she is not considered a skilled magician.
However, when it comes to “destructive” power, she is unrivaled in her talents.
The sight of her raining down bullets like hot geysers has also given her the direct, yet rather tasteless nickname, “Magic Gunner”.
Who she learned it from is unknown, but she is also familiar with martial arts, and has a battle style that could be considered a hybrid of those martial arts and magic.

She encountered Shiki on her travels. She gives him his glasses that suppress his Mystic Eyes, and teaches him the value of living things and how to handle things.
For that reason, Shiki respects her and calls her his teacher.
She’s a difficult person to pin down. She believes in justice, is unreliable, and a vagabond.”

Legendary Visual Novel Mahoutsukai no Yoru by Type-Moon Coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch

2 years 4 months ago

Today Type-Moon announced that the legendary visual novel Mahoutsukai no Yoru will return on modern platforms.

Mahoutsukai no Yoru, which translates as “The night of the witches” (elaborated in the official subtitle “Witch on the Holy Night”) is a visual novel released in 2012 by Type-Moon, known for creating the ultra-popular Fate series.

It was written by Kinoko Nasu, originally as an unreleased novel reportedly inspired by the first episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Now it’s getting a new fully-voiced release in 2022 for PS4 and Nintendo Switch, featuring full HD resolution. You can check out a trailer below.

Incidentally, a dedicated anime movie adaptation has just been announced by Aniplex with animation by Ufotable, so it all matches quite well.

If you’re unfamiliar with the original visual novel, here’s how it’s described at VNdb (the description is originally from the magazine Tech Gian).

Where Is My Yu-Gi-Oh Battle Royale Game?

2 years 4 months ago

As a fan of the film Battle Royale and The Hunger Games books (the movies are fine too), I’m surprised the battle royale genre hasn’t permanently sunk its teeth into me. Don’t get me wrong; I’ve enjoyed my time with Fortnite and Apex Legends, the two titles I’ve dabbled with the most. They’re well-crafted games. But each of them also occupies the same niche being shooters. I’m itching for more creative spins on the formula.

The recently announced Rumbleverse, a pro wrestling flavored take on the genre, tickles my fancy as a long-time fan of sports entertainment. But I’m selfish, so give me more battle royales based on my specific interests. If you’ve listened to me on podcasts or watched me on streams, you probably know I’m a big Yu-Gi-Oh fan as well. Since its inception, it’s been my trading card game of choice and is primed for the battle royale treatment. No, I’m not talking about Yu-Gi-Oh Rush Duel: Dawn of the Battle Royale, which only features the concept in name. I want the real thing. How? Simple: it’s been done already.

The Top 100 Video Games of All Time

2 years 4 months ago

IGN’s Top 100 games list encompasses the best of the best throughout history, spanning generations of consoles, PCs, handhelds, and more. Our list last saw a major update back in 2019, and since then, there have been several games released that deserved to be added. Just as importantly, we looked at the totality of the top 100 as it stood and asked ourselves a few key questions. This lead to some beloved games dropping off, and other games we previously missed being added.

Games in our top 100 have to measure up to a few key metrics: how great a game it was when it launched, how fun it is to still play today, and how much the game reflects the best in its class. While past versions of this list have put a big emphasis on a game’s impact and influence, we’ve essentially taken that out of the equation. Many games that left a mark and inspired future developers may not stand the test of time and be all that fun to play right now. Or, quite simply, they may have been surpassed by other games.

With all of that said, IGN’s list reflects the current staff’s 100 best games of all time - a collection of games that continue to captivate us with their stories, wow us with their revelatory approach to game design, and set the standards for the rest of the industry.

2 years 4 months ago

Today, at the end of the New Year livestream dedicated to the Muv-Luv series, aNCHOR revealed “Duty Lost Arcadia” with a new trailer.

Not many details about this new project have been revealed, but the title is not new: the original “Duty Lost Arcadia” was a book released in Japan in 2012 focusing on the European front of the Muv-Luv Alternative world.

It features short stories about the 44th Tactical Armor Battalion Zerberus from the Federal Republic of Germany, which is also at the center of the Muv-Luv Alternative Chronicles Aspiration visual novel (already available in English as part of the Muv-Luv Photonmelodies collection).

The trailer indeed references the Zerberus Battalion with the mention “it has finally begun” at the end, and the subtitle “The End of the Dawn.”

You can check the trailer below, alongside the cover of the original book, and a “Muv-Luv Alternative 15th Anniversary Video” created with clip selected from the fans, which was also released today. Do keep in mind that this second video includes spoilers.

Former Call Of Duty Dev Says Series Needs "Revitalization"

2 years 4 months ago

Robert Bowling, the former creative strategist at Call of Duty studio Infinity Ward from 2006-2012, has commented on the future of the Call of Duty series. Posting on Twitter, Bowling said the Call of Duty franchise needs to be rebuilt.

"We need more than iteration, we need revitalization," Bowling said in reply to a tweet from Modern Warzone about the current state of Call of Duty.

Bowling said the Call of Duty series could benefit from returning to "core gameplay" instead of "content gateways."

"We used to treat our players like community and not consumers. We brought them in to the fold for map feedback not market feedback," Bowling said.

After moving around the games industry, Bowling is now the studio head at Midnight Society, a new game developer hoping to "usher in the new era of online PvP multiplayer titles." Halo Infinite developer Quinn DelHoyo is the creative director and Dr. Disrespect is leading the team as well.
