Rainbow Six Siege: High Calibre and New Operator Thorn Full Season Breakdown

2 years 5 months ago

Ubisoft has fully revealed High Calibre, the fourth season of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Year 6 that will not only add a new Operator in the defender Brianna “Thorn” Skehan and her Razorbloom Shell gadget, but also a rework of Outback, greater customization, new team colors, and more.

High Calibre Season, Thorn, and the new Battle Pass featuring a new exotic weapon skin will all be available November 30. To help give you a headstart on becoming the best Thorn you can be, we’ve enlisted the help of Rainbow Six Siege professional player and TSM FTX member Jason “Beaulo” Doty to share some of the best tips for using this new Defender.

Thorn and Her Razorbloom Shells Can Be a Big Problem For Attackers

While Thorn’s loadout includes a UZK50GI SMG, a Deployable Shield, and Barbed Wire, her Razorbloom Shells are the star of her arsenal. These shells can be thrown by Thorn and will stick to any surface it hits. After it detects an opponent, it “automatically propels a set of sharp blades in all directions, delivering lethal damage.” According to Beaulo, these are “proximity mines on steroids” that will strike fear into your opponents.

“Thorn’s main thing is her Razorbloom Shells which, in my eyes, are like beefed-up proximity mines or proximity mines on steroids because it alerts you to an enemy’s presence and it puts fear and this sense of danger into the attacker,” Beaulo said.

“To get the most bang for your buck out of Thorn’s Razorbloom Shells, probably put them in choke points, maybe right before they get to the site,” Beaulo continued. “If it comes down to the last minute execution on the attackers side, it really kind of speeds them up or slows them down and makes them a little bit clumsy and better positioned for you to react off of it.”

2 years 5 months ago

Players have had plenty of time to dive into Halo Infinite’s multiplayer experience, but as we move closer and closer to the December 8th launch date, anticipation has been building for the campaign experience as well. Well, here’s the first big trailer from the campaign, unveiled today.

Click here to watch embedded media

FPS campaigns often range from the mundane to the majestic and we don’t know just where Halo Infinite’s falls just yet. Clearly, much has changed since the underwhelming demo slice of legend that gave rise to big-time internet memes and a fair amount of concern about what the final game would play like. That said, we’ll be looking closely to see what the verdict is as we get closer to launch. While multiplayer hasn’t been without issues, especially ones related to battle pass progression, game customization, and more, overall Halo Infinite’s “return to form” for Halo seems to be well received thus far. Take a look at how the campaign has changed from its initial reveal to now in the video below!

Square Enix Issues Server Congestion Warning Ahead Of Endwalker Launch

2 years 5 months ago

Endwalker, the upcoming expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, is almost here. In fact, players with early access packages can begin playing the expansion as soon as Friday, December 3. Of course, as with any MMORPG launch (and many other online games), the first few days are likely to be dicey affairs when it comes to server queues, login woes, and other various assorted issues as players all attempt to login at the same time and play. We saw this happen earlier this year with New World – and seeing it occur in some capacity for the Endwalker launch would not be unusual, given the hype for this big, big expansion that features several new jobs and a ton of new content to explore.

Halo Infinite Campaign Trailer Asks 'How Would You Live Your Life Differently?'

2 years 5 months ago

Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries has dropped a brand new campaign launch trailer ahead of its official release date on December 8. Check out the video above or the image gallery below for a new look at Master Chief's next adventure.

The trailer reintroduces us to Master Chief and Cortana (sort of, long story) as they reflect on how they would live differently if they knew how they'd die. The reflection doesn't last too long, as Master Chief quickly gets to killing plenty of Banished, the new splinter faction of familiar Covenant races, shooting Brutes, Grunts, and running over Jackals.

We also see Master Chief encounter a strange female alien/robot/AI hybrid character who warns the Spartan that "you are not the future" before attacking.

If you're thirsty for Halo Infinite, you can already get your hands on the multiplayer mode's beta. Check out our Halo Infinite multiplayer review to see if it stands up to the lofty FPS heights that the original Halo games established, or check out the latest updates on how 343 Industries is tackling multiplayer issues.

Alien: Fate of the Nostromo Board Game Review

2 years 5 months ago

Alien is such an iconic franchise that there’s no shortage of great games that have taken inspiration from it down the years. Some, like Lifeform, Space Hulk and Nemesis, weren’t licensed. Others, like Legendary Encounters: Alien and Aliens: Another Day in the Corps, were. But they all had one thing in common: they were aimed at the hobby end of the market.

Alien: Fate of the Nostromo looks to cross that boundary. It’s published by Ravensburger, which has a good track record in making franchised board games with wide appeal. It also has the commercial clout to ensure a competitive price and space on mass-market shelves. And it’s a cooperative game, meaning you all win or lose together, and it can also be played solo.

What’s In The Box

Like other Ravensburger games, the box opens to an image printed on the reverse of the board: in this instance it’s Jones the cat, hissing at you in fear. It’s a nice touch that ups the anticipation of delving through the contents.

On the business side of the board, there’s a slightly confusing split-level map of the Nostromo, the spaceship from the film. Beneath there’s a couple of punchboards of tokens, some decks of cards and a bag of soft plastic figures. Kane, the Alien’s first victim in the film, isn’t available as the action starts after his unfortunate demise.

This being a licensed game, the player boards and their matching figures all look like the relevant characters from the film. Rather than film stills, the cards and boards use specially commissioned art, but it looks great and helps set the scene.

Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker Servers Could Face Severe Congestion, Square Enix Warns

2 years 5 months ago

Square Enix has warned players ahead of Final Fantasy XIV's Endwalker Early Access period that its servers may be congested.

The team is anticipating more simultaneous logins than usual, so the servers have been optimized ahead of Endwalker's release in order to increase login caps. Due to the ongoing shortage of semiconductors, Square Enix was unable to add new Worlds, but will still be considered later.

When a World reaches its maximum player cap, then a login queue will appear. Even if it isn't counting down, the process is still functioning and it will admit players in order. Players who have the full version of the game will be prioritized over the ones playing the free trial version. Players will be able to log into less-crowded Worlds within the same data center as their homeworld, but during peak suggestion times, players may still experience login queues while using this feature.

In terms of characters, new ones cannot be created in a World that is experiencing congestion. Creating new characters requires them to be logged in to the World so that they can be added to the database and go through the entire creation process. Players may also experience an "Error 2002" when selecting a character in the selection menu. This is also due to high traffic or when a login queue exceeds 17,000 players. In order to avoid this, players will simply just have to wait before trying to log in again.

Take A Behind The Scenes Look At Starfield In New Trailer

2 years 5 months ago

A new Starfield trailer today takes a bit of a different approach compared to the traditional sizzle reel or gameplay blast. Instead, you can take a look at Starfield in a very different fashion, with a behind-the-scenes look with game director Todd Howard, studio director Angela Browder, and art director Matt Carofano. It’s more of a micro look at Bethesda’s approach to their games, their stories, and their open worlds. It’s more of a conversational approach than a lot of game trailers, but it looks like it’s simply setting the stage for lots more to come regarding Starfield. Check out the full video right here.

Click here to watch embedded media

This is really just Episode One of a Starfield trailer series, so inevitably there will be a lot more on the way before Starfield’s release. In case you were wondering, Starfield is set to hit on November 11, 2022. That may seem like a long way off, but I’m sure we’ll get to see a lot more from the game as we progress into next year. Yeah yeah, I know. I want to see some serious gameplay slices too. We’ll get there. What do you think it’s going to be like? We do know some things… Expect wars, space pirates, and mysteries to unravel.

Media Molecule-Developed Dreams Game Ancient Dangers: A Bat’s Tale Announced, Available Today

2 years 5 months ago

Media Molecule has announced Ancient Dangers: A Bat’s Tale, a new playable game the studio made in its 2019 creation game, Dreams.

The game seems to be centered on two dungeon-crawling protagonists who must battle “hideous monsters” and solve “fiendish puzzles” to advance through Ancient Danger’s medieval setting. There is, of course, loot and wealth to be found throughout each of these dungeons, and there seems to be a cute bat at the center of its story, as the name alludes to.

Click here to watch embedded media

As you can see in the trailer above, Ancient Dangers looks quite great and it’s tough to picture it as a game made inside Dreams, which is itself a game. Credit to Media Molecule, though, for doing just that. Ancient Dangers looks great, too, which is especially exciting because it’s already out as of today.

Here’s the official description for Ancient Dangers:

Call Of Duty Warzone Trailer Reveals New Look At Incoming Caldera Map

2 years 5 months ago

Call of Duty: Vanguard Season One is just a little over a week away from the release of its new Warzone map, Caldera, and a new trailer highlighting it has been released.

Dubbed a “Call of Duty: Vanguard & Warzone - Season One” teaser trailer, it oddly has virtually nothing to do with Vanguard, the latest Call of Duty release that’s centered on World War 2. Instead, it oddly positions itself as a travel agency video from a company called Pacific Horizon Airlines that’s about the natural wonders and touristy locales of Caldera.

Cartoon Legends Return to Apex Legends in Another Hilarious Video

2 years 5 months ago

Earlier this year, Apex Legends players got to see exactly what it would look like if their favorite cartoons characters competed in the arena. The result was a hilarious concoction of calamity, as everyone from Archer to Rick and Morty tried to survive using their trademark skills and personalities.

To help celebrate all the new content that has dropped since the last post, creator elpinko has returned with a part two, which they once again posted to the Apex Legends subreddit, as you can see below.

Highlights include Johnny Bravo getting taken out by Cat Dog, Omni Man vs Patrick and SpongeBob, and Rick Sanchez taking on Randy Marsh (Lorde_of_the_Rings) in an epic fist fight to decide who the Champion of the area will be. It’s yet another amazing creation by elpinko, as the video feature so many fun interactions that also fit into the Apex Legend meta seamlessly.

Ghostrunner Project_Hel DLC Officially Announced For 2022 Release

2 years 5 months ago

Ghostrunner will be releasing a major new DLC expansion in early 2022, IGN can exclusively reveal. After teasing it as the "Ultimate DLC" last week, Ghostrunner's developers took the wraps off the new content today, revealing that it is a story-driven expansion featuring a major character from the core game.

Titled Project_Hel, the new DLC will you in the shoes of Hel, one of the original game's trickiest bosses. In the Project_Hel DLC, she will be a combat-oriented character designed to appeal to "new players and veterans," and will feature her own ability progression system.

Project_Hel's story will span six missions, following Hel as she descends Dharma Tower. It will also include new enemies, bosses, and six new tracks from electronic musician Daniel Deluxe. It was originally planned as a smaller piece of DLC, but eventually grew into a "full-blown Ghostrunner experience."

In addition to the new story, 505 Games is planning a free cosmetics bundle. The Holiday Pack will include several festive swords and matching gloves, and will be available December 7.

In our original Ghostrunner review, we called it a "speedrunner's dream" when it launched last year. "You may die hundreds of times, but instantaneous respawns and generous checkpointing ensure that Ghostrunner’s challenging combat and platforming never become a chore," reviewer Mitchell Saltzman opined.

Since then 505 Games has announced Ghostrunner 2, a sequel being developed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

GTA Trilogy: Fans React to New Rain, Original Sound Effects, and Old Reece

2 years 5 months ago

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition had a rocky launch, but Rockstar has been working to address the bugs, glitches, missing content, and other issues that have plagued the remasters. Earlier today, the developer released updates for all three GTA games in the collection on all platforms, excluding the Nintendo Switch.

The update added notable fixes including improvements to the rain effect, a cinematic camera, and other big changes. Fans weighed in on the tweaks that bring the remasters closer in line to the originals.

Fixing the Rain and Fog

One of the biggest grievances about the remasters was the glitchy rain effect. On a Reddit thread discussing the patch notes, many commented on the sheer amount of rain fixes, with user megamanxoxo saying, "Like half of them are 'fixed rain in X scene'. That could've just been one line lol."

Along with the rain, fans also missed the fog that used to cover San Andreas, and are happy that it's back.

The killer, Carmina Mora, is the Artist – commanding a twisted murder of ink crows that can highlight and harm survivors with a little savvy placement. While her projectile assault may not be as direct as the Huntress’s ax or some of the other long-range options, her kit expands with add-ons and can be used to play keep away on pallets or windows that look prime for a chase.

Depending on how she’s played, she can either use her artistic swarm to help track down survivors and keep tabs on them over long distances or be used for direct assault at close range. 2 years 5 months ago

In the run-up to the holidays and the release of its 30th Anniversary expansion for Destiny 2, developer Bungie has been running a sale on its store called Gjallardays. Named for the vaunted arrival of Gjallarhorn, a Destiny 1 favorite, in Destiny 2, the Gjallardays event is like an advent calendar of Bungie sales and Destiny 2 freebies--as well as a chance to win stuff.

Today's entry in the Gjallardays advent calendar doesn't provide anything free, per se. Today, tweeting about the Gjallardays event before 8:59 AM PT / 11:59 AM ET on December 1 enters you into a sweepstakes to win the Collector's Edition version of the upcoming Destiny 2 expansion, The Witch Queen. You can find the full details on the Gjallardays site.

Fortnite Crew: What's Included, How To Sign Up, And How To Cancel

2 years 5 months ago

Fortnite Crew is the monthly subscription pack that gives Fortnite fans additional and exclusive content for as long as they're subscribers. It premiered in December of 2020 and since then has seen the release of original characters--and even some crossover characters--that fans can't access any other way. This makes Fortnite Crew a desirable item for some Fortnite players, but whether you're looking to sign up or cancel your subscription, here's how you can do those things, plus what you get when you're a subscriber.

What comes with a Fortnite Crew subscription

Fortnite Crew perks have fluctuated a little bit in the program's first year, but several perks have also been mainstays. Guaranteed with each monthly subscription are the following perks:

  • Fortnite Crew Pack
  • 1,000 V-Bucks every month
  • Guaranteed access to the active battle pass

The Crew Pack is usually a single character, plus several accessories such as back bling, a pickaxe, and a glider. The contents of the character's cosmetic set can vary from month to month--some get loading screens while others do not, for example. So far, there have been two licensed crossover characters, while all others have been Fortnite original characters. The crossovers include DC Comics' Green Arrow and Marvel's Loki. It's likely more crossovers will be released via the Fortnite Crew too.

How To Use Preferred Item Slots In Fortnite

2 years 5 months ago

In Fortnite battle royale, sometimes the difference between winning and losing comes down to who can navigate their inventory fastest. If you find yourself desperately swapping weapons to the point where you might be tossing health kits at opponents as you fumble through your virtual pockets, it might be time to use Preferred Item Slots, a fairly new quality-of-life feature that allows you to semi-automate the process of organizing your loot. Here's how to use Preferred Item Slots in Fortnite.

Fortnite - Preferred Item Slots

To find the Preferred Item Slots menu, head into Fortnite's settings and scroll to the second tab, called simply "Game" settings and depicted by a gear icon. Scroll to Preferred Item Slots and select "Configure."

This will open up a customization menu that you'll need to tweak to your liking. What Preferred Item Slots does is automatically move certain loot to certain spots in your five-slot inventory space as decided by your presets. Say, for example, you really like to have your assault rifle as your leftmost item, followed by an SMG, and then a sniper, before filling the right side of your inventory with throwables like firefly jars and healing items like Slurp Juice. With Preferred Item Slots, the game will stick each of those loot items into their designated spot in your inventory, so you always know where they are.

The system only functions properly if you don't have your five slots filled. Once you do, the game reverts back to manual adjustments, with the exception of higher-rarity loot replacing lesser loot of the same variety. For example, if you set your shotgun slot to be the second-from-the-left inventory space and find an orange shotgun while holding a blue shotgun, your custom pecking order that is Preferred Item Slots will swap out the lower-ranking shotty for the better one in your designated shotgun slot.

New Halo Infinite XP System: How To Level Up Faster Than Ever

2 years 5 months ago

343’s newest change to the Halo Infinite battle pass XP system once again makes it more user-friendly and faster to climb, signaling that the developer is still listening to fan feedback and adapting. Following an earlier change that made daily XP gains come at a pace of 50 XP per match every single time, the new changes greatly increased those gains. With that in mind, here’s the newest and best way to level up the Halo Infinite battle pass.

The new Halo XP gains are front-loaded for players who are logging on for the first time each day, and are meant to encourage you to return to play daily. As laid out by Halo community manager John Junyszek, the team’s latest fix rewards large amounts of XP for the first six matches of every day, broken down as follows:

  • 1st Game = 300 XP
  • 2nd Game = 200 XP
  • 3rd Game = 200 XP
  • 4th Game = 100 XP
  • 5th Game = 100 XP
  • 6th Game = 100 XP

For every game you play after the initial half-dozen in a single day, you’ll receive 50 XP, which before this update was the comparatively measly rate for any dailygames played. As you can see, the gains are drastically improved, even as 343 says more changes to the progression system are on the way. The team noted that this was one it was able to make swiftly.

Fornite Adds "Party Worlds" To Give You A Space To Hang Out With Friends

2 years 5 months ago

Fortnite is more than just a game about shooting other players, and with the introduction of its new Party Worlds, it's providing more options for folks who want to engage with the game without combat. The new social spaces are meant to focus on hanging out and making friends, without the added pressure of competing in a battle royale or facing down enemies in Save the World.

Developer Epic Games released a blog post detailing the Party Worlds concept, showing off two such locations while also inviting players to make their own in Fortnite Creative. The spaces Epic showcased are Walnut World, a forest-themed amusement park created by Fortnite player fivewalnut, and Late Night Lounge, a club-like location created by player TreyJTH.

The post encourages players to make and share their own social spaces, some of which Epic will highlight in Fortnite's Creative mode. There are some stipulations, though. Party Worlds are a little different from Hubs--where Hubs are about showcasing content you can try, Party Worlds are meant to be social destinations. Epic also detailed what it's looking for in player-created Party Worlds:

There are also elements you can adjust to give yourself a bit of an edge or enhance your multiplayer capabilities. At the very least, you can make small changes that get downplay some more intrusive elements of the game, which might save your life in a duel down the road.

We've run through the Halo Infinite settings menu and identified a few items you should absolutely mess around with, whether for your comfort or to give yourself the best chance of winning any gunfight you get into. How To Get Free Halo Sails In Sea Of Thieves

2 years 5 months ago

Halo Infinite multiplayer is out now, and the campaign is just around the corner, set to hit Xbox platforms including Game Pass and PC on December 8. To celebrate the launch, Sea of Thieves players can once again log into the pirate sandbox and claim the free Spartan set, but time is running short. Here's how and when to grab the Halo set in Sea of Thieves before it disappears, as well as a preview of the new Halo sails coming very soon.

How to get Halo Spartan set in Sea of Thieves

The Spartan Ship Set first brought Master Chief and other things emblematic of Xbox's flagship franchise to Sea of Thieves in 2019. The complete set includes sails, a flag, and a full range of on-deck accessories like a captain's wheel, cannons, and a capstan. This elusive set is still free in-game, but you only have until December 1 at midnight PT / 3 AM ET to claim it.

To unlock this returning Halo set, simply log into Sea of Thieves before that time, and you'll find the cosmetics will have been automatically added to your ship customization items, which you can access at any Shipwright kiosk on the game's various Outposts. Keep in mind that while these cosmetics often appear immediately, sometimes there's a short delay in their dispersal. So long as you head into the (very sandy) sandbox before that time, you should receive the full slate of cosmetics on offer--if you didn't get them when they were first available for a limited time two summers ago.

Square Enix Apologizes In Advance For Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker Server Issues

2 years 5 months ago

The release of Final Fantasy XIV's Endwalker expansion is right around the corner, and Square Enix is apologizing ahead of its release for what it calls a "high likelihood" of lengthy login queues and other server issues.

Final Fantasy XIV has seen record numbers of active users in recent months, and Square Enix is only expecting those numbers to rise when Endwalker releases on December 7. To prepare for launch day, Square Enix has outlined all that it is doing to ensure a stable launch for its MMORPG, saying it has increased server capacity and improved server hardware and infrastructure. But that might not be enough given the game's recent rise in popularity.

"As such, there is a high likelihood of congestion that will result in Worlds reaching maximum login capacity and lengthy wait times when logging in," Square Enix writes. "We would like to apologise for making this sort of announcement at a time when many of you are looking forward to the expansion, as well as for inconveniences that may be caused by congestion."

Dreams Receives New Update In Ancient Dangers: A Bat's Tale And DreamShaping 2.0

2 years 5 months ago

Media Molecule has added a new third-person dungeon crawler to Dreams called Ancient Dangers: A Bat's Tale and overhauled the game's creation mode, DreamShaping.

As described in a new PlayStation Blog post, in Ancient Dangers, you play a heroic orc named Scoria. It also has a local co-op mode where the other player can play as Scoria's twin, Gabbro (although it still requires an internet connection). The twins must venture through dungeons slaying monsters while searching for the herb that will cure their grandmother's awful snoring. The dungeons are filled with foes to combat, puzzles to solve, and a showdown with a dragon.

Regarding the game's DreamScaping mode, the studio realized that it can be an overwhelming experience for new players. In the new DreamScaping 2.0, there is a new template system and a reworked user interface. The new templates provide the tools to make a variety of different genres, such as 2D platformers, dungeon crawlers, shoot-em-ups, and more. There's even a dedicated template for Ancient Dangers as well.

There are difficulty indicators for the templates too. Beginner templates emphasize the basics by letting you simply stamp in elements, while medium-difficulty templates introduce wiring elements together. Advanced-difficulty templates cover techniques like how to optimize your creations.

Your in-game DreamScaping page will also be tailored to your own skill level and time spent in the game. You can also find new sections to promote elements used in your creations as well as other Dreams creators to follow.

Marvel's Avengers has just added another playable character, the long-promised PlayStation-exclusive Spider-Man. Though the wall-crawler is free and you don't have to earn him through gameplay, you have to find him and trigger a cutscene before you can start spinning webs, any size.

Before you start, make sure you've updated to the latest version of Marvel's Avengers on PS4 or PS5. He's a PlayStation-exclusive character, so if you're playing on PC or Xbox, then sorry, no Spidey for you. If you have the latest version installed, you'll see Spider-Man on the main menu, hanging upside-down on the left side of the hero line-up. However, if you go into the hero selection menu, you'll find a prompt saying you need to find Spider-Man on the helicarrier before you can start playing as him.

How To Find Spider-Man

As the prompt mentions, you need to go to the Chimera helicarrier to begin the Spider-Man content. That means that if you've last saved at one of the other outposts, like Hank Pym's Ant Hill or Wakanda's Birnin Zana, you need to go find the nearest War Table to transfer back to the Chimera.

Once at the Chimera, though, Spider-Man himself is no where to be found. He's not in any of the crew quarters or in the hangar bay or on-deck. In fact, he isn't in the helicarrier at all, but rather, outside of it. To find him, look at the left side of the front windows on the main deck. One of the windows is covered with a "Suspicious Web," and investigating that will trigger a cutscene explaining how Spidey falls in with the Avengers.
