Charming Point & Click Adventure, Inspector Waffles, Sleuths Its Way to Switch on Oct. 14

2 years 7 months ago

If you’ve been hankering for a classic point-and-click adventure from yesteryear, then we may have the purrfect game for you. Yes, quirky old-school experience, Inspector Waffles, is officially locked in for an Oct. 14 release on Nintendo Switch.

The news comes by way of a freshly cut release date announcement trailer which dropped earlier today. Go ahead and check out the new footage down below:

As you can see from the video, Inspector Waffles is a rather endearing 16-bit pixel-art noir detective story that sees you trying to piece together a murder mystery in a town filled with anthropomorphic cats and dogs.

Throw in a toe-tapping jazz soundtrack and some light-hearted humor, and you have all the ingredients for a delightful point-and-click adventure much akin to the traditional games of olde like Grim Fandango, Sam & Max or The Secret of Monkey Island.

Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards will return once again for 2021, and so too will its live audience. Today, the show has today locked in the data of Thursday, Dec. 9 for the evening’s celebrations, also confirming that a live audience will be in attendance after the digital-only affair during COVID-19 restrictions last year.

The show’s website is already live, though there’s no word yet on what to expect in terms of new game and new game content announcements. You can expect Keighley to tease some of what’s to come during the build-up to the show as usual.

As a reminder of what we saw last year, The Last of Us Part II took Game of the Year, while new announcements included the Perfect Dark remake and a tease of a new Mass Effect game. Rainbow Six Extraction Gridlock Trailer Shows Off Her Automated Traps

2 years 7 months ago

Ubisoft has been dropping trailer after trailer to introduce the selection of Operators for the upcoming Rainbow Six Extraction, and now, it’s Gridlock’s turn.

Gridlock uses Trax Stinger traps to damage and slow down enemy Archaens. The traps are basically spiked mats that automatically activate any time that enemies walk across them.

These gadgets are great for funneling Archaens into areas where you want to control their movement. Trax Stingers will give you time to either regroup, or finish off the hostiles that get stuck.

You can have a look at the Gridlock trailer below to get a quick look at what she brings to the table in Rainbow Six Extraction.

Rainbow Six Extraction doesn’t have a release date just yet, but it’ll be coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Stadia sometime in January 2022.

If you’re looking to pre-order the game to get your hands on it as soon as possible, you can head over to the official site for more details on how to do that.

Konami's eFootball Is Having a Very Bad Launch

2 years 7 months ago
eFootball 2022, Konami's free-to-play replacement for its famed Pro Evolution Soccer series is currently having a pretty dreadful launch. Fans across social media are highlighting a number of issues that they have with the game, from glitches to poor characters models.Searching through the eFootball community Reddit page, it doesn't take long to find posts detailing fans' concerns. From seemingly questionable refereeing decisions, to clips of goalkeepers performing greater blunders than Loris Karius in a Champion's League final, issues concerning the game's AI are brought up a number of times by those who've played the game. While these are issues that could likely be addressed in a patch at a later date, they aren't the only reasons that people feel let down by eFootball's release. A number of posts across Twitter have criticized the game's character models, with fans comparing its animated crowds to zombies and eerie models of on-the-pitch players to those who catfish on dating sites.

Top 10 Adventure Games To Play Right Now

1 year 9 months ago

Far from describing a game with adventure in it (that would include a lot of games!), the adventure genre is loosely defined as one that emphasizes narrative and exploration over action, which may also rely on light puzzle mechanics. In other words, a game that doesn’t have enough simulation to be a sim, action to be an action title, puzzle-solving to be a puzzle game, and… you get the idea. Despite the nebulous classification, games in this genre are unambiguously incredible experiences, often exploring refreshing and fascinating concepts. Shooting for games that are rolling around in the zeitgeist right now, some of the genres’ towering giants are not listed here. However, for anyone looking to check out today’s great experiences, feel free to peruse our list of the best adventure games to play right now.

New Sherlock Holmes Chapter One Trailer Shows Sherlock's Quick Thinking In Combat

2 years 7 months ago

Sherlock Holmes doesn’t get by on his keen observation skill and his wits alone. As evidenced in the new trailer for Sherlock Holmes Chapter One, the world-famous detective has to take a more physical approach at times to escape a hairy situation with his life intact.

Sherlock may not always resort to violence, but he’s a capable combatant at his formative age in Chapter One. Using his well-trained eyes and incredible perceptive skills, you can slow time in combat to pinpoint enemy weaknesses and environmental hazards that can be useful against enemies in a fight. Every hit hurts this young Sherlock a lot, so utilizing every dip, dodge, and dirty trick like his powder-spewing snuffbox is critical to surviving encounters.

While you can put your dukes up against enemies, sometimes you need a little more firepower than some flashy fisticuffs. Using pistols in a fight, Sherlock can shoot off protective armor before dealing the finishing blow, whether to restrain and arrest a culprit or kill them outright. A non-lethal approach is considered canonical, though the option is left open to permanently take an enemy down in a pinch.

New Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer Showcases PC-Exclusive Features

2 years 7 months ago

Earlier today, Eidos-Montréal released a brand-new trailer that focuses on the PC version of their upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Game. This new video showed off high resolutions, enhanced lighting, and other features that will be exclusive to the PC version of the game.

The team at Eidos-Montréal isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to the visual quality in Guardians of the Galaxy for PC. Here are just a few of the graphical goodies that most PC players (AMD GPU owners can’t use DLSS) will get to experience:

The PC version of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy allows players to experience high levels of fidelity, real-time ray tracing, NVIDIA DLSS’ AI-powered performance boost, diffuse illumination, HDR and wide color gamut, and up to 8K resolution.

However, if you don’t have a GeForce RTX card or even a PC that’s powerful enough to run this game at maxed-out graphical settings, there’s another option available. Thanks to Nvidia’s streaming service, GeForce Now, PC gamers will be able to stream the RTX-enhanced version of the game. This way you can also transfer your save seamlessly with other devices that have GeForce Now installed.

eFootball 2022 is now the worst rated game on Steam

2 years 7 months ago

eFootball 2022 is now the worst rated game on Steam, less than a day after release. Konami's free-to-play 'football platform' was announced earlier this year as the successor to PES, with a barebones launch planned to be expanded in perpetuity with optional DLC. Yet even accepting its relatively thin amount of content, players are sharing screenshots of terrible faces, broken animations, and plenty of bugs.

It's IGN's 25th Anniversary, And We're Making a Game To Celebrate

2 years 7 months ago

IGN turns 25 this year, and what better way to celebrate this momentous occasion than with a video game? We're partnering with the creators of the 2020 Game to make our very own mascot platformer, featuring the best moments in gaming and entertainment history.

Titled IGN 25: The Game, this new 2D platformer will journey through the 25 years since IGN was founded, featuring nods to moments like IGN's first trip to E3 and our first live broadcast from Comic-Con. It will star Iggy, an anthropomorphic version of our familiar d-pad mascot. And it'll be free to play, of course (no microtransactions. Like, actually free.)

In the spirit of the occasion, we made a trailer that would be right at home on a cable station circa 1996, which you can see above.

While games have long since moved on from the heyday of mascot platformers — our user-driven bracket just recently named 2018's God of War the best of all time — it's fun to look back on this very particular moment in gaming history, when Mario, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, and many other colorful characters were jockeying for space in the hearts of console gamers.

Monster Hunter Rise Won't Have Cross-Save or Cross-Play, Capcom Says [Update]

2 years 6 months ago

Update 10/11/2021 12:40 pm PT:

Despite fan requests, Capcom isn't adding cross-play or cross-saves to Monster Hunter Rise on PC.

In a Tweet, the developer said, "after looking into it throughout the development process, we found we are unable to implement it this time."

The game previously launched as a Nintendo Switch exclusive earlier this year, and given the nature of Monster Hunter's grindy gameplay loop, players were hoping cross-saves would allow them to bring the gear acquired through hundreds of hours of gameplay to the new version. Unfortunately, this is now looking unlikely.

Monster Hunter Rise comes to Steam on January 12, 2022. A demo is coming this week, on October 13.

Original story follows...

A survey is giving Monster Hunter Rise players hope for eventual cross-play between Nintendo Switch and PC.

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King - A Pandemic System Board Game Review

2 years 7 months ago

World of Warcraft’s universe has been steadily expanding since its release nearly 15 years ago, adding plenty of new characters, lands to explore, and enemies to conquer. However, one of its most popular storylines follows the downfall of the hero Arthas and his subsequent rise to become the Lich King. For those looking to return to Northrend and storm Icecrown Citadel once more, this board game will definitely scratch that itch for you.

Based on the expansion of the same name, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King - A Pandemic System Board Game (wow, that’s a mouthful) is a cooperative tabletop game for up to five players that includes all the trappings of the popular MMO. It has iconic heroes, unique abilities, battles against the Scourge, and questing with your party, and it's all uniquely layered on the foundation of the popular Pandemic series of board games. This isn’t just a simple re-skin, though, as every element of gameplay has been faithfully adapted to feel right at home within Blizzard’s popular universe.

What’s in the Box

From the moment you crack open the box, you can tell this board game was created with attention to detail and plenty of care showcased in every component. The sprawling game board measures roughly 20" x 30" and features dozens of familiar locations from across Azeroth, including Naxxramas, Dalaran, Ulduar, and more.
