2 years 7 months ago

Developer Playtra has released a new trailer for its upcoming tactics-style shoot ’em up title, Grid Force: Mask of the Goddess ahead of its release later this year.

The trailer shows off some of the fast-paced shmup, grid-based gameplay, which looks set to give players the opportunity to strategically combine their characters for devastating attacks.

Speaking about the evolution of grid-based gameplay in Grid Force, Dan Bernardo, Founder of independent studio Playtra Games said “We love the grid-based game genre because of how deeply tactical and character-driven it can be, but we also saw an opportunity to bring more players to the genre with combat that was faster and more dynamic. We’re betting everything on Grid Force, and we’re excited to bring players along for that adventure.”

Grid Force will also feature a deep narrative which will change depending on choices made by the player along the way. Story sections and cutscenes will play out with a hand-illustrated comic book style, also showcased in the new trailer which can be found below.

Grid Force will feature more than 30 playable characters each with their own unique stats, active and passive abilities, and skills. Each character can also be leveled up and equipped with new gear and Masks of Power to help you take on the tougher challenges that lie ahead.

Fortnite now has Will Smith

2 years 7 months ago

Men in Black. Independence Day. After Earth? Will Smith is no stranger to fighting aliens. Now, he can do so in Fortnite.

To presumably celebrate the game's genuinely very enjoyable alien season, you can now purchase Will Smith in Fortnite. The only downside? He's called Mike Lowery, and this is Will Smith's character from the decidedly non-alien focused Bad Boys trilogy.

Digital rights weirdness aside, Smith's arrival in Fortnite comes after a series of high profile stars arrived via the game's Icon Series as themselves: Ariana Grande, J Balvin and LeBron James.

Tune in tonight for a peek at the new Dead Space

2 years 7 months ago

We'll get a "very early look" at the new Dead Space project tonight, developer Motive Studios has announced.

The action will take place over on Motive's Twitch, and is due to kick off at 6pm UK time (that's 1pm Eastern or 10am Pacific).

It's perhaps a little surprising to see Motive showing more of the project so soon after its announcement at the end of July, and with a fair while still to go (it can be reasonably assumed) until the project launches. But we won't say no.

This lone gaming hour will also be allowed on public holidays, The National Press and Publication Administration announced (thanks, BBC News).

These new curbs are the latest steps in the Chinese state's battle against online gaming, which has been dubbed "spiritual opium" for the country's youth.

The Big Con review - the fun adventure of a 90s hustler

2 years 7 months ago

I was incredibly annoyed when 2019 arrived. In fact, I've been annoyed ever since. It's not that I'm the most well-informed K-pop fan by any means, but I did immediately recognise the charm of then-new boy band Verivery with their 90s throwback single "Ring Ring Ring". The bright colours, random shapes and yo-yos transported me back to my youth. Unfortunately, very few others have come along for the journey back to the era of California Dreams and The Battle of Seattle, but I imagine many more will jump towards that same magical time period presented via The Big Con.

You play as Ali, a 17-year-old stuck helping her mum (sorry, "mom") out at the video rental store. Deep breath: before internet-based streaming and downloading, people used to buy - or simply rent - films on chunky, plastic video cassettes that were the size of a book. A cassette is a thing that stores data on a roll of thin magnetic tape. They were a pain in the ass. Phew. Unfortunately, while your friends and classmates are all busy with much more interesting summer plans, your mom is sending you off to band camp for a fortnight so you can fulfil her wishes of becoming a famous trombonist.

Unfortunately, again, just before you're set to go, you overhear your mom dealing with loan sharks who are urgently wanting their money back, or else it'll be goodbye to Linda's video shop. Despite the motherly assurances, Ali is so bummed out about what the future may hold by the time she returns from music camp.

Gotham Knights And Suicide Squad To Be Shown At DC FanDome 2021

2 years 7 months ago

If you’re a fan of the Batman Arkham games, you’ve likely been eagerly awaiting news on Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League. You won’t have to wait too much longer. The DC FanDome will return for a 2nd edition this October, and Warner Bros. Interactive plans to show off both games during the event.

Neither Gotham Knights nor Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League are traditional sequels to the Arkham games, but they are both exciting titles in their own right. Gotham Knights is a co-op-friendly action game from WB Games Montréal. Players won’t be able to play as Batman, but they will be able to jump into the capes of Batgirl, Red Hood, Nightwing, and Robin to protect their beloved city after the death of Batman. Gotham Knights continues the vein of the Arkham games but features a greater emphasis on RPG systems.

2 years 7 months ago

Microsoft has confirmed the release date for Windows 11, which will become available to download from 5th October.

If you're an eligible Windows 10 owner you'll be able to upgrade for free, though Microsoft is using "intelligence models that consider hardware eligibility, reliability metrices, age of device and other factors" to determine exactly when your device is prompted to upgrade.

"We expect all eligible devices to be offered the free upgrade to Windows 11 by mid-2022," Microsoft explained. "If you have a Windows 10 PC that's eligible for the upgrade, Windows Update will let you know when it's available. There's another Lego Star Wars game coming

2 years 7 months ago

Lego Star Wars Battles is described as a "new PVP strategy game" coming soon to Apple Arcade, the iOS-exclusive game subscription service.

But this is, of course, the same Lego Star Wars Battles which shut down back in July after two years of testing in soft launch (thanks, Pocket Gamer).

Today, Colombian developer Dreams Uncorporated and California-based indie publisher Modus Games have confirmed that their colorful retro JRPG, Cris Tales, has received its first patch for PS5 and PC.

The new update is available to download now and will add a bunch of tweaks, bug fixes as well as some extra PC-specific graphical options. As of the time of writing, the patch is currently only available for PS5 and PC. There’s currently no word yet on when it will be deployed to other platforms.

The best Genshin Impact Rosaria build

2 years 7 months ago

Want to learn how to create the best build for Rosaria in Genshin Impact? Cryo Polearm wielder Rosaria joined Genshin Impact's hero line-up with the v1.5 update in April 2021. A member of the Church of Favonius in Mondstadt, Rosaria is extremely bored by her religious devotions and would much rather be following her own path instead. In-story she's not much of a team player, but nevertheless she'd probably jump at the chance to join your adventuring party if it means getting out of daily prayers and choir practice.

KeyWe review: extremely cute, but this is no way to run a post office

2 years 7 months ago

Gun to your head, if you were forced to staff a post office with flightless birds, which kind would you pick? Personally I'd go with ostriches, because they are both tiny of brain and aggressive of temperament (plus their long necks would reach high shelves and they would be very fast at delivery). But the good people at Stonewheat & Sons are clearly cowards, because they picked kiwis, the little avocado-shaped birds of New Zealand. Although, bonus points for featuring cassowaries as mail carriers, a species whose first Google autocomplete suggestion is "cassowary attack".

KeyWe feels like a name that was generated pun first and ask questions later, which is a design method I have immense respect for. In this case, your two little kiwi pals must run a small regional Telepost office that has almost terminal levels of whimsy. The telegram machine is split into separate groups of keys that spin, swap places, and, worst of all, do not follow the standard QWERTY layout. Packages are labelled according to the personal notes enclosed with them: set up this scarecrow as soon as possible, but remember his stick body is very fragile. The mail room is also run by an octopus.

See the Dead Space remake here on today's stream

2 years 7 months ago

EA will today give a wee work-in-progress peek at their remake of Dead Space, 2008's sci-fi horror shooter about removing legs from monsters like a cruel child playing with a spider, except here sometimes the monster is a cruel child who's also a spider. Dead Space is a good'un but, like so many other games getting remakes and remasters these days, still basically fine. I'll be curious to see what's dramatic enough to warrant a full-on remake. This Twitch stream will be at 6pm today (10am Pacific), and you can watch it here below.

What was the best game at Gamescom and why was it DokeV?

2 years 7 months ago

Out of all the games announced at this year's Geoffscom, action adventure game DokeV was easily my highlight of the show. Unlike everything else, which made some sort of sense, this game took a bold choice and made none. It made no sense at all. All we got was a barrage on the senses, and I respect that rogue attitude. Instead of opting for a PowerPoint presentation like its peers, it just blared K-pop at everyone for three minutes and then moseyed off like it was nothing.

The Big Con Is An Easy Mark Worth Scoping Out

2 years 7 months ago

Publisher: Skybound
Developer: Mighty Yell
Release:
Rating: Teen
Platform: Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC

The Big Con transports players back to the ‘90s when video rental stores dotted the land, tacky bright colors were in like Flynn, and you could unironically describe something as “radical” and be considered, well, pretty rad. The game launches today, and I've found the game's first few chapters to be as enjoyable as drawing that cool "S" symbol over and over again. That's a compliment in case you're a young 'un. That thing is weirdly entertaining to make.

We've played five hours of Far Cry 6

2 years 7 months ago

Eurogamer's Far Cry expert Ian has been busy blasting away at no less than five hours' worth of Far Cry 6. He's tried the game's co-op mode and got properly stuck into its story campaign starring Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito, and uncovered a number of other interesting revelations along the way.

Did you know, for example, that the game transitions to a third-person view when visiting one of its base camps? This lets you spend a bit of time seeing resistance fighter Dani Rojas, the game's playable character, who is otherwise only shown in cut-scenes and special attacks.

Speaking of base camps, Ian has more in the video below about Far Cry 6's foray into base building mechanics - which look like they'll feature here for the first time in a non-spin-off Far Cry game.
