The Latest Castlevania Trailer Shows Season 4 Will Be Bloody & Beautiful

Earlier today, Netflix dropped a new trailer for Castlevania’s fourth season, showcasing all of the bloody fun that Trevor, Sypha, and Alucard are set to have this time around. The clip picks up right where the show left off last season, as the trio go their separate ways, with Trevor and Sypha staying together as a couple.

The trailer once again showcases plenty of gore and fighting, two staples of the Castlevania animated series that the show does so well. While our protagonist’s stories still take center stage, Isaac and the Council of Styria each still loom in the shadows respectively.

What is even more interesting than Isaac’s demon army or Carmilla’s vampire brood is the possibility that someone is trying to bring Count Vlad Ţepeş, better known as Dracula back from the dead. While they certainly weren’t successful in doing so in the trailer, it’ll be intersting to see this plot point unfold throughout the season, especially since it will be the last.

Halo Infinite Gets New Screenshots Showing PC Aspect Ratio, Field of View, & Options

Today 343 Industries released a gallery of new screenshots of the upcoming first-person shooter Halo Infinite.

The images focus on showcaing the PC options for the game, following the post from earlier today that announced cross-play and cross-progression between PC and consoles.

We get to see resolution aspect ratios including 32:9 super ultrawide and beyond and adjustable fields of view (FOV).

On top of that, we take a look at several options that will be available on PC. We’ll be able to set a minimum frame rate which will activate dynamic resolution scaling, and specify a maximum FPS count (or leave it uncapped if we so wish).

Triple keybinds will be available for mouse and keyboard players, and the graphics options appear to be very comprehensive.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Piper PA-34 Seneca V Released by Carenado

Prolific third-party developer Carenado just released a relevant new aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator, and it’s a classic.

It’s the twin-engine Piper PA-34 Seneca V, one of the most popular aircrafts in its class.

It’s currently available exclusively on the official in-game marketplace for $29.99 or €29.99.

Carenado’s aircraft are normally considered mid-range in terms of simulation features, so you should expect something reasonably accurate but not close to what some define “study-level.”

Recently, we published our massive interview with head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann, who provided a lot of new info about the present and future of the sim. Lady Dimitrescu Is a Lot Less Scary in This Wacky Resident Evil Village Trailer from Japan

Resident Evil Village is a scary survival horror game, but Capcom appears to be going the opposite direction with its promotion, at least in Japan.

Following the hilarious song performed enka singer and songwriter Yoshi Ikuzo, we get another rather comedic and musical trailer featuring the most terrifying members of the known cast.

Yet, they’re not as terrifying in this wacky trailed titled “Let’s Play in Bio Village” (“Bio” stands for “Biohazard,” the Japanese name for Resident Evil), turned into funny singing puppets. And yes, that includes fan-favorite Lady Alcina Dimitrescu.

I doubt you need to understand Japanese to have a laugh while watching the trailer below.

Resident Evil Village will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam on May 7, 2021.

New Pokémon Snap Brings in an Original Pokémon Snap Cameo With a Major Glow-Up

New Pokémon Snap is out today, and while we've gotten some good looks at most of the game's main characters and a number of its Pokémon, The Pokémon Company has remained rather precious about a major cameo that happens early in the game.

It's in the first couple of hours, but if you don't want to be spoiled at all, don't read on.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=our-favorite-photos-from-new-pokemon-snap&captions=true"]

It's the appearance of Todd Snap.

If you're not familiar with Mr. Snap, he's the main protagonist from the original Pokémon Snap, who also makes a few appearances in the Pokémon anime and manga. Back in the original Pokémon Snap days, Todd was a goofy kid with a big camera who Professor Oak hired to take photos of wild Pokémon. Over the course of the game, he discovered mysterious "Pokémon Signs" that Professor Oak somehow connected to constellations in the night sky, leading him to send Todd to space (???) to take photos of Mew.

In New Pokémon Snap, those Mew photos have launched a promising career for Todd, and now he's a world-famous photographer. He's also an adult now, with marginally better hair and far better fashion sense than he had as a kid in those giant cargo shorts.

New Pokémon Snap's Wailord Reveal is Appropriately Enormous

New Pokémon Snap is out now, and chock full of impressive, exciting, cute, and funny Pokémon reveals. However, one of its more impressive moments is so appropriately enormous that it slows the Pokémon down noticeably for a few moments while it tries to settle into place. I am talking here of Wailord: the biggest of all Pokémon, given appropriately huge treatment in New Pokémon Snap's Reef level. Warning: If you don't want to be spoiled on any of the cool Pokémon reveals in New Pokémon Snap, you probably shouldn't watch the video below or read on. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/30/new-pokemon-snaps-wailord-appearance-is-hugeand-slow"] Wailord's appearance midway through the Reef is an incredible surprise when it first happens, with the absolutely gigantic Pokémon slowly breaching the surface of the ocean and splashing water up into the player's camera. On later versions of the level, once the player has more experience visiting the Reef, more Wailord will appear in the distance shortly after with similar splashes and reactions, enabling you to get even cooler photos. It's a truly wow-worthy moment, dampened somewhat by the fact that Wailord's enormous size combined with the water effects going on as it breaches slows the Pokémon's framerate for a few moments until he's settled in on the surface. It's less pronounced in the clip above, which is taken on Research Level 2 of the Reef -- other appearances can appear a bit slower depending on how close you are to the Wailord when it breaches. To be clear, New Pokemon Snap largely runs just fine for the most part, and even in this particular moment everything around the Wailord still seems to be doing okay. But you can see the Wailord struggle to emerge in the moment and snap into place in a spot too, just due to the sheer size of its animation. Honestly? The fact that Wailord is so big it momentarily struggles to get out of the water is kinda cool.

New Pokémon Snap's Main Legendary Pokémon Is a Surprising Choice

New Pokémon Snap actually has a number of twists on how it handles "Legendary" Pokémon. For one, it features a number of "boss battles" with Illumina Pokémon — giant Pokémon that glow when exposed to a special kind of flower unique to the Lental Region. You've likely already seen one of these Pokémon, Meganium, in the trailers. But there's far more to New Pokémon Snap's treatment of legendaries than initially meets the eye, and while the choice of what Pokémon to feature is rather surprising if you're familiar with how Pokémon normally handles legendaries, it's also very, very cool. Warning: What follows below this video is major spoilers for the end of New Pokémon Snap. Scroll past at your own risk. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/28/new-pokemon-snap-review"] Aside from Meganium, there are a number of other Pokémon that also get the Illumina treatment. These include Milotic, Steelix, Volcarona, and Wishiwashi. All of these Illumina encounters take place on special Illumina courses, where the Illumina Pokémon is thrown into the spotlight similar to how Mew was the sole focus of Pokémon Snap's Rainbow Cloud course. Though other Pokémon can and do appear in these stages, their appearances are incidental to the Illumina Pokémon's. Your goal is to get the coolest shots possible of the big, glowing creature, and it will often require careful timing and clever puzzle-solving to get them. Your encounters with these Illumina Pokémon all eventually lead to a special encounter with a legendary Illumina Pokémon, and this is where New Pokémon Snap really surprised me.

Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible Gets Renewed for Two More Seasons

Based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, best known for creating The Walking Dead franchise, Invincible is an animated series exclusive to Amazon Prime. Starring some pretty big names like Steven Yeun (Minari, The Walking Dead) and J.K. Simmons, the show takes place in a world filled with superheroes.

Played by Yeun, Mark Grayson is a pretty ordinary teenage boy, except he has superpowers and also happens to be the son of the most powerful superhero in the world, Omni-Man. Things start to get complicated, though, as Mark quickly finds out that his father isn’t as noble or heroic as he would have him believe.

Announced via Twitter today, Robert Kirkman stated that Invincible has been renewed for seasons 2 and 3 on Amazon Prime Video, which is really no surprise at all, considering how successful it’s been for the platform.

Respawn would "love to deliver" more single-player PvE content for Apex Legends

If you somehow missed it, earlier this week Respawn unveiled some massive changes coming to Apex Legends in its upcoming Legacy season - the biggest being a new permanent game mode called Arenas. Set to run alongside Apex's standard battle royale matches, Arenas has been described as the "first step" in moving Apex Legends beyond battle royale. And as it turns out, the first pitch document for Arenas was inspired by Auto Chess: a pretty surprising choice given that battle royales and auto chess, erm, aren't particularly alike.

It all made me wonder what sort of wacky experiments Respawn is carrying out behind the scenes, and what we could potentially see next. Could it be single-player modes, co-op, gauntlet runs? So I decided to put this question to Respawn in an interview with chief operating manager and Apex Legends general manager Dusty Welch, and game director Chad Grenier. It seems that the Apex Legends team is keen to venture further into areas such as PvE - and pointed to previous Apex experiments as an example.

"We dipped our toes in a PvE mode a few seasons back with quests," Grenier said. "And the team certainly loves to make that kind of content. A lot of our team comes from a single-player background... we made the single-player campaign in Titanfall 2.

R-Type Final 2 review - a scruffy celebration of a genre great

The name is dumb, of course, but I'll take it. Thanks to a certain long-running JRPG series the word Final has lost most of its meaning around these parts, but when R-Type took it on as a suffix back in 2003 it really meant it. R-Type Final was intended as a grand farewell to a genre seen to be on its last legs, and a send-off from one of the all-time greats at that. A funereal air hung heavy over its slow, stately missions, and when Irem turned away from games development in 2011 it felt like part of R-Type Final's prophecy might have come to pass. A gaming legend was no more.

Reports of the genre's death were greatly exaggerated, of course, and in recent years a cottage industry has risen around this most humble breed of shooting games. Pick up a Switch and you could fill its storage with some of the all-time greats - Esp.Ra.De! Gradius 2! Darius Gaiden! - alongside modern classics such as Devil's Engine or Rolling Gunner, making it one of the best platforms for lovers of the genre since the PlayStation 2.

It's fertile ground for a comeback for one of the grandees, even if this isn't exactly the grandest of comebacks. R-Type Final 2 comes off the back of a modest crowdfunding campaign, bringing together some of the old team headed up by Kazuma Kujo at Granzella, and it is a more modest thing - there's a creakiness to its Unreal Engine powered levels regardless of what platform you're on, a flatness to its models and textures that goes beyond mere tribute to the PlayStation 2 original.

What we've been playing

Hello! Welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little bit about some of the games we've found ourselves playing over the last few days. This time: skyscrapers, mythology, and an absolute masterpiece.

If you fancy catching up on some of the older editions of What we've been playing, here's our archive.

High Rise doesn't have a "PLAY" button on its start screen. It has a "BUILD" button. You're faced with a grid of squares that you can plonk coloured blocks onto, and once the coloured blocks converge - blocks of the same colour placed next to each other - they turn into skyscrapers. Add more blocks and the skyscrapers get higher. It's beautiful.

Hitman developer reportedly developing fantasy IP for Xbox

IO Interactive, developer of Hitman, has begun working on a new fantasy IP for Xbox which features dragons.

That's according to a report by Windows Central, which states this is one of several projects Microsoft is working on with external developers to be released under the Xbox Game Studios publishing banner.

Eurogamer sources have also heard word of this new project within IO Interactive, which is described as being AAA in scope though still very early in development, and years away. It's currently planned to feature a large medieval-esque world and, yes, winged beasts of the dragon variety.

Activision puts Crash Bandicoot 4 dev Toys for Bob on Call of Duty: Warzone development duty

Activision has put Crash Bandicoot 4 developer Toys for Bob on Call of Duty: Warzone development duty.

A tweet from the official Toys for Bob Twitter account said the studio was "proud" to support development for Season 3 of Call of Duty Warzone, "and look forward to more to come."

However, California-based Toys for Bob appears to have suffered staff exits as part of this shift. Character designer and illustrator Nicholas Kole, who worked at Toys for Bob up to January on Crash Bandicoot 4 and, before that, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, tweeted: "it's the end of an era, but I wish my former coworkers still with TFB all the best with what's ahead!"

Crash Bandicoot Dev Toys For Bob Is Now Developing Call of Duty: Warzone

Update: Activision Blizzard has shared a statement with IGN denying that the company had undergone layoffs. "There has not been a reduction in personnel recently at the studio," said a company spokesperson. "The development team is operating fully and has a number of full-time job openings at this time.  The studio is excited to continue supporting Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and more recently provide additional development support to Call of Duty: Warzone.” IGN has reached out to Nicholas Kole for more detail on his statement about employees being let go. Original Story: Toys for Bob, the developer of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, has been assigned to support development on Call of Duty: Warzone – and seems to have suffered lay-offs as a result. The studio, which was acquired by Activision in 2005, announced the news on Twitter, saying, "Toys for Bob is proud to support development for Season 3 of Call of Duty #Warzone, and look forward to more to come." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/01/crash-bandicoot-4-its-about-time-review"] It's a somewhat surprising move for a studio traditionally focused on games for younger audiences and, as Eurogamer points out, appears to have come with a number of staff exits, both voluntary and involuntary. Character designer Nicholas Kole explained that he's left the studio, adding that "everyone I interfaced with and worked along was let go".

Resident Evil Village puppet show is far cuter than it has any right to be

2 years 11 months ago

[Update: Reposting this as it needs to brighten as many mornings as possible. Capcom has confirmed that a second episode of "Let's Play in Bio Village" will be released on May 7. Huzzah!]

It was originally an April Fools' joke, but nobody's laughing anymore. Capcom has released the first episode of its Resident Evil Village puppet show, which sees the villains of the upcoming horror title brought to life in unbelievably adorable fashion... It's... Something.

The creepy-cute show, which you can check out below, stars Heisenberg, Moreau, Angie, and — of course — the lovely Lady Dimitrescu. Packed with super-cute songs, literal buckets of gore, tinsel-based arterial spray, and a worryingly infectious spirit, this heart/brain-melting take on the Resident Evil universe may be among Capcom's best-ever campaigns. Despite the goofiness, it's really well lit, shot, and produced.

Come for the cuteness, stay for Lady D going ape with an axe.

Capcom, bless their hearts, have some funny ideas. They're releasing a demo for Resident Evil Village this weekend, but it'll only be playable for a week and will have a hard time limit of 60 minutes total. Heaven forbid people freely play a demo. But I'm still up for it because I'm well up for Village, so how handy that we can now preload the demo and be ready to get stuck right into our... limited fun?
