Currys goes live with early Cyber Monday deals

3 years 5 months ago

Black Friday may be pretty much vanquished, but it's ready to morph into its final boss form: Cyber Monday, armed to the teeth with even more deals for bargain-hungry shoppers.

Traditionally, Black Friday involves larger, big-ticket goods that see the most reductions, with Cyber Monday's discounts featuring smaller products such as games or films.

This year, however, we've seen big savings across the board, and with a year like this one, boy have we needed them.

Microsoft Flight Simulator CRJ & Twin Otter Add-Ons Get New WIP Screenshots; TO Confirmed for Xbox

3 years 5 months ago

Aerosoft has released new work-in-progress screenshots of the upcoming Bombardier CRJ and de Havilland Twin Otter add-ons.

First of all, we get an update for the CRJ add-on, which will be the first to release. We recently heard that the developers hope to launch it by the end of this year, but no firm promises have been made.

We get to see multiple images of the external model and cockpit (sources: 1, 2, 3), keeping in mind that they’re still work-in-progress. For instance, the reflections on the glass cockpit screens are considered too intense by the developers, and they’re talking to Asobo about a solution.

Japan's Super Nintendo World Theme Park Area Gets an Official Opening Date

3 years 5 months ago

Universal Studios Japan today announced that its long-awaited Super Nintendo World area will finally open to the public on February 4, 2021. IGN Japan was on hand for a sneak peek at one section of the new world; the very first time members of the press have been invited inside – check out our gallery below.

Bowser’s Castle (or Koopa’s Castle in Japan) is an immense reconstruction of the iconic location from the games. Visitors will be able to climb a sweeping grand staircase, at the top of which is an enormous, imposing bronze statue of Bowser himself. The scale is seriously impressive.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/30/super-nintendo-world-reveal-trailer"]

The walls of the castle’s corridors are lined with huge portrait paintings of Bowser, along with bright and colourful emblems from the Mario Kart games. Huge faux brass knockers adorn the doors, while Bowser’s face in menacing silhouette peers down from the top of the door frames.

We also saw where guests will line up for one of the park’s most anticipated new attractions, Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge, which promises to put visitors in the driving seat for a ride that includes AR and projection mapping effects to bring courses from the Mario Kart games to life. This is realized through a special headset styled on Mario’s hat with a built-in AR screen.

Have you played… Star Wars: Squadrons?

3 years 5 months ago

I so desperately wanted Star Wars: Squadrons to be a huge success. If I could snap my fingers and change whatever I wanted about the games industry, I would give Star Wars: Squadrons the playerbase of Call Of Duty. It’s an absolutely phenomenal cinematic experience, and it’s also an amazingly deep competitive game that rewards tactics, skill, and keeping calm under high pressure.

Genshin Impact's Zhongli Is Available As A Playable Character This Week

3 years 5 months ago

With the Unreconciled Stars event finished and Tartaglia's event banner drawing to a close, Genshin Impact is about to drop the remainder of the new content that was patched in with Update 1.1--including a new quest and two new characters. Zhongli, a five-star character who players will know as a big part of the game's major storyline in Chapter 1, will now get his own featured event banner called "Gentry of Hermitage".

The new banner features Zhongli as its main 5-star character, meaning players will have an increased chance to add him to their rosters. Unlucky players will have to make at least 180 wishes before they're guaranteed to pull Zhongli, however. Like other 5-star banners, players could spend hundreds of dollars trying to obtain the character through Genshin Impact's gacha system.

Nintendo Switch Fortnite Edition Bundle Available Now For Cyber Monday

3 years 5 months ago

In October, Nintendo released a special Fortnite-themed Nintendo Switch called the Fortnite Wildcat Bundle, but US fans could only import it from Europe. As a Cyber Monday surprise, Nintendo has brought the cool Fortnite console stateside. It's available to purchase at select retailers for $299--right now, we're seeing the Fortnite Switch bundle in stock at Walmart and GameStop. This seems to be a limited-time restock, as Nintendo's website says "available while supplies last," and like other Switch bundles, we expect it'll sell out fairly fast. If you have a Fortnite fan on your holiday shopping list who wants a Nintendo Switch, this might very well be the perfect gift.

In addition to the sweet design, the bundle also comes with Fortnite goodies. You'll get three outfits and a trio of Back Blings as well as 2,000 V-Bucks to spend in the in-game store. Fortnite is also pre-installed on the console, though it's free-to-play anyway.

Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Is More Than Just A Mode

3 years 5 months ago

CD Projekt Red has cleared up some confusion about the upcoming multiplayer game set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Executive Adam Kicinski said during the company's latest earnings briefing that it's not right to call it just a "mode" for Cyberpunk 2077.

Instead, it should be thought of as a standalone product. "So, first, we don't call it modes," Kicinski said (transcription via Seeking Alpha). "It's a separate dedicated production, a big production. We think about it as a standalone product."

The Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer game is connected to the single-player game, but CD Projekt Red sees it as an "independent production" with a team working on it that's separate from the team building the single-player game.

Demon's Souls Player Discovers PS5 Trophy Videos Record Mic Audio, Too

3 years 5 months ago

Defeating an enemy in a Souls game can be extremely satisfying, and with the Demon's Souls remake debuting as a PlayStation 5 launch title, many early adopters are discovering the joys of slaying its titular demons. The PS5 records a video when you earn a trophy, and one player made a fun discovery as he defeated the Tower Knight--that video can include your mic audio.

Reddit user helloiamjack posted a video of his successful defeat of the Demon's Souls boss to the PS5 subreddit, and amusingly, it features some audio of his victory celebration. He's a "first time" Souls player, and he's understandably excited about defeating the giant enemy.

You can watch the video below--just make sure you turn your volume up for the best results.

Croods: A New Age Had A Pretty Good Opening Weekend By 2020 Standards

3 years 5 months ago

The Croods: A New Age opened at the US box office over the Thanksgiving weekend, and it was--by the standards of 2020 movie releases--a solid success. The film pulled in $14.2 million across the 5-day frame beginning Wednesday, Deadline reports, with $9.7 million of that figure happening across the three-day weekend. The film was shown on 2211 screens, according to Box Office Mojo.

That's the second-best figure posted by a movie since the pandemic closed cinemas back in March, after Tenet's opening. However, while Tenet's opening was reported as a $20.2 million figure, this included sales of preview screenings in the week leading up to this weekend, and Warner Bros. has been opaque in their reporting of Tenet's daily figures. It's possible that The Croods: A New Age actually had a bigger opening weekend.

SaGa Frontier Remastered Announced, And It'll Feature An Extra Playable Character

3 years 5 months ago

SaGa Frontier Remastered has been announced, and it's an improved version of Square's 1998 PS1 JRPG. The game, originally released in the US in 1998, is being remastered for Switch, PS4, mobile, and PC, and some cut content is being restored for this new version.

SaGa Frontier presented players with seven potential protagonists, and let them explore the game world in a non-linear fashion. For the Remaster, there are now eight characters--Fuse, who appeared on the start screen but was not available in-game, has been restored. Each character has their own goals and ending, so you could conceivably play the game through eight times and have a different experience with each character.

Beyond Fuse, there are also other scenes and sections that were cut from the original release that are being restored. This should be the ultimate version of SaGa Frontier.

The game, set across a whole solar system, was considered confusing by many critics at the time, but it was well-received in Japan and has a cult following. You can check out the Remastered version in the trailer below.

Best Cyber Monday Game Deals 2020

3 years 5 months ago

After weeks of retailers promoting Black Friday deals, we're finally approaching the end of the year's biggest sales period--but it's not over quite yet. Cyber Monday 2020 is here, bringing one last wave of steep discounts before the holidays. While some Black Friday sales are wrapping up today, most retailers have moved on to Cyber Monday already, with sales going live at Amazon, Target, and Best Buy.

Cyber Monday deals tend to be a mixture of recycled Black Friday deals and brand-new ones that retailers have saved for the post-Thanksgiving week. The best Cyber Monday offers are usually one-day-only, so you'll want to check out the big sales at Walmart, GameStop, and other online stores then.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Has A Cool Dungeons & Dragons Nod

3 years 5 months ago

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a massive game that has so much more than just its incredible main story to enjoy. Strategic building, meaningful romance, hilarious and intriguing sidequests; the new game has it all. It also has a pretty nifty Dungeons & Dragons reference, though not by that name.

As spotted by @PlayWithJambo, there is a part in Valhalla at the Foris Turre viewpoint in Wessex that players can see the clever D&D nod with Prisons & Pyewackets character sheets and DM notes:

While not an active game that Eivor can participate in, it is more than a passing reference. If you look closely, you can see detailed characters sheets and the Dungeon Master's (DM) notes on the ongoing game. There is even a dice tray that can be seen in the short clip above.

Super Nintendo World Opens In February And It Looks Awesome

3 years 5 months ago

When we first learned of the Super Nintendo World coming to Universal Studios in Japan, immediately my inner-child screeched in excitement with millions of others. Since then, every new look had that delight escalating further, and now? Now we've got a grand opening date as well as a new sneak peek at what the park will have to offer Nintendo fans.

Originally slated for a Summer opening earlier this year, COVID-19 had other plans and the delay was called for safety concerns. While the pandemic continues to escalate in some areas, Osaka, Japan is ready to harness its inner Mario on February 4. Currently, the only park to be opening its Nintendo-themed doors is in Japan, but more parks are in the works to expand that fandom love even further with United States and Singapore locations on the way.

The Nintendo park will be filled to the brim with interactive choices for attendees to engage in, including a wristband that will interact with a special phone app that will unlock activities like collecting character stamps and coins.

Monster Hunter Movie Crossover Revealed In New Trailer For Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

3 years 5 months ago

The upcoming Monster Hunter live-action movie starring Milla Jovovich is almost ready to launch and to celebrate, Capcom is bringing the film's influence into the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne with a new crossover.

The latest crossover event will kick off this week on December 3 and will include two of the leading characters. A playable version of Milla Jovovich's character will be among the added characters with Artemis. While it's not the Capcom venture she's known for, it is a neat little mashup for those excited for the film following the most recent Palico-driven trailer

The new event kicks off on December 3 at 4 PM PST and will include two new limited-time only Event Quests with a two-part single-player story starring Artemis herself. Jovovich will be voicing her in-game counterpart with the added NPCs speaking in "Monster Hunter language." Capcom even added a cheeky little winking face following the latter part of the reveal.

PS5 Users Are Being Banned Due To PS Plus Collection Abuse

3 years 5 months ago

PS Plus is a membership service that unlocks online play for PlayStation players while also awarding free games each month in addition to special sales on certain titles. The PS Plus Collection awards a total of 20 PS4 classics to PS5 PS Plus libraries, but it looks like some members are abusing that deal. With PS5 players now getting in on the free game action, a growing number of PS5 gamers are reportedly being banned due to a misuse of the service across generations.

With stellar titles like Batman Arkham Knight, God of War, Bloodborne, and more, the desire to utilize the PS Plus Collection is high. So many of these games set the tone for PS4's success, but it looks like more than a few accounts were using a loophole that awarded this collection to PS4 players and Sony immediately sought to rectify that.

The PS Plus Collection is only meant for PS5 players, but some PS4 players have been using PS5 accounts with this particular library to download the free games onto their consoles.

This is your last chance to grab your favourite gaming mouse for £35 / $35

3 years 5 months ago

A photo of the Logitech G502 Hero gaming mouse.

Though [cms-block] ended on Sunday (???), there’s still a chance to get some deals for Cyber Monday, and one of those is a doozy. The Logitech G502 Hero gaming mouse is still available for an all-time low price of £35 / $35 for both UK and US deals hunters. Last year, the older model of the G502 was officially voted RPS readers’ favourite gaming mouse of all time, and today could well be your last chance this year to snap it up so cheap.

The Children In Assassin's Creed Valhalla Are Terrifying

3 years 5 months ago

Assassin's Creed Valhalla offers a stunning open-world for players to live out those Viking fantasies in. It even houses some pretty stellar references, including a Dungeons & Dragons game. That being said, there is one aspect that is far from beauty and grace, and it's these children that OH MY GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEIR FACE?!

Look, we're not here to judge. All children are beautiful in the eyes of yada yada yada, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that these kids have officially out-uglied the boat people of Marvel's Spider-Man when it first launched on the PS4.

One Reddit user made a horrifying compilation showing off some of the best (?) of the best (again, ?) and really, this is not the content we should be sharing with you but we're doing it anyway. Sorry:

Reddit @KrutToppen

Some of them aren't that bad, but the one in the middle looks like it's trying to suck my soul out through my monitor and I'm not OK with that. The one of the bottom left looks like he's seen some things and the feller mid-left looks like he should be a fully grown shopkeeper, not a young child.

The good news is that they're tiny, so you can just...overlook them. Or, you can make another compilation, because who needs sleep?

These Legend Of Zelda Makeup Brushes Are Perfect For The Holidays

3 years 5 months ago

The holidays are just around the corner and many are looking for the perfect stocking stuffers for gamers. For anyone looking for a unique gift (or just a cool fandom buy), there is a new set of Legend of Zelda makeup brushes that are pretty darn perfect for fans of the Nintendo franchise.

Maybe the magic of Legend of Zelda will make me miraculously better at makeup. Probably not.

From the shop Panashe-Essence (not affiliated with Game Informer or its parent company), the latest gaming crossover is none other than that of Legend of Zelda. This same company has offered other gaming goods, including a Pokemon set, but how could I resist writing up about a makeup option that offers the Hyrulian shield?

Panashe-Essence

The above set comes with a powder brush, a smudge brush, an eyebrow brush, an eyeshadow brush, and a silkworm brush. The listing also states that the handles are made of metal for a heftier feel, but honestly? They just look really cool.

If you're looking to scoop these up for the holidays, there is one thing you should know: handling can take up to three business days with 1-2 weeks for shipping. That should be enough time for Christmas pending no delays, but the good news is that the site also states that it has a 100% money back guarantee.

New Phasmophobia Prison Level Beta Is Live

3 years 5 months ago

Phasmophobia is a campy co-op horror game that is terrifying and hilarious (due to the graphics and its resulting comedic glitches). Due to its ghost-hunting nature and scary as all hell levels, this experience quickly skyrocketed to streaming fame and for good reason. Now joining levels like the High School and the asylum, the new prison level teased earlier this month is now available in the beta build of the game.

I haven't had a chance to check out the new level myself quite yet, but as soon as that work timer counts down, I plan on screaming my head off the same as always just in a brand-new location.

With the beta build, the devs behind Phasmophobia can test out some of the lingering bugs and implement fixes. Even though it's just launched, new issues have already been found, and tackled, with an additional patch specific to the beta build:
