The Switch Version Of Immortals: Fenyx Rising Tries Real Hard

3 years 5 months ago

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is not on the Switch. Neither is Watch Dogs Legion. The only one of this fall’s three vast, open-world Ubisoft games to grace the Switch is Immortals: Fenyx Rising. It doesn’t look as good or run as well as it does on Xboxes and PlayStations, of course, but for a Switch game it’s pretty damn…

The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are in high demand but short supply. That’s not completely surprising given the challenges of launching next-gen consoles in the middle of a pandemic. Fortnite Galactus Event: How to Watch It

3 years 5 months ago
Ever since Fortnite and Marvel teamed up, everyone expected some sort of game-altering occurrence – that Season 4 would offer more than just a battle pass filled with icon skins. And considering that Galactus’ body recently appeared in the ocean (just west of Sweaty Sands), it was apparent that he’d be the cause of whatever calamity is on the horizon. This coming live event will send shock waves through the Fortnite universe. At least, that’s the sentiment shared by Epic; the company wants as many people as possible to join the fight tomorrow. Given the magnitude of Galactus’ appearance, we’ve compiled the necessary information in our guide below to help you do just that.

How to Watch The Fortnite Galactus Event?

The entire event took place in-game. Hopefully, if you logged-in early enough, you were able to participate. Don’t worry if you didn't get to, though. While it was a one-time occurrence – as opposed to say, the Travis Scott concert – Stella from IGN was able to capture the entire event live. Check out the full VoD below. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/01/fortnite-galactus-full-event-no-commentary"]

What Is The Fortnite Galactus Event?

The Fortnite Galactus event is a special, one-time-only event where players battle Galactus. It started with players hanging out on a helicarrier as a countdown to the event displayed on the screen. Once the event kicked off, the Marvel supervillain emerged out of the water and made his way towards the island before uttering the words, "Beware, I hunger." Galactus then attacks the helicarrier, sending players hurtling into the sky where Iron Man shows up with a jetpack and guides players into battle.

I'm stoked to close out 2020 with some PixelJunk Eden 2 co-op

3 years 5 months ago

I've quietly been stoked to play PixelJunk Eden 2, the sequel to Q-Games' underappreciated atmospheric platformer about zipping through abstract gardenscapes while chill Baiyon tunes work their magic.

After missing its initial summer 2020 window, it seems that PixelJunk Eden 2 is on track for a December 10 launch on the Nintendo Switch eShop. The new release date showed up on a Nintendo UK store page, and while the equivalent listing for North America still says fall 2020, I'm choosing to believe.

[Update: Q-Games confirmed the December 10 launch date for PixelJunk Eden 2. If you buy the game by December 16, you'll get a decent discount – $9.89 instead of the normal $14.99 price tag.]

Gameplay-wise, I'd expect a similar experience – you'll explore "gardens of psychedelic sights and sounds" to collect pollen, expand the flora to reach new heights, and generally melt into your chair.

As the studio puts it, you'll be able to "swing and spin from silk threads, in both single and cooperative play as you and a partner pirouette around one another in brush-strokes of light and color in the world on your journey to collect the all-important 'Spectra,' the source of all life in the world." It's a trip.

"More PixelJunk Eden" would've been fine by me, but co-op? That's the secret word.

The peculiar RPG Omori is actually coming out in 2020

3 years 5 months ago

Six years after showing up on Kickstarter, the psychological horror RPG Omori has a release date that seems like it'll stick: December 25, 2020. It's going to make the end-of-year cutoff on Steam.

The production has stretched far enough that I forgot I covered this before on Destructoid. It's one of those games. No matter, though – the 2020 trailer is a nice reminder of how far Omori has come.

Even if I'm not entirely sold on the world-exploration gameplay, I like the color palette, and I'm sure it'll get the job done with Omocat's storytelling. The more elaborate battle-screen artwork looks fantastic.

According to the Steam listing, "themes of death and depression" await us. The trailer alone packs some emotional weight, so I'm generally hopeful. Console ports, including Nintendo Switch, are in the works.

Cyberpunk 2077 has cross-save compatibility between last-gen and new-gen consoles

3 years 5 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077 will be a very large game. We already figured as much -- this is the same developer that gave us Witcher 3 after all -- but reports have come out recently that it's certainly possible to squeeze a couple hundred hours out of it. Fortunately, anyone who's switching machines mid-playthrough won't have to start all over.

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will have cross-save functionality within the same family of consoles. So, PS4 saves can be transferred to PS5; likewise, Xbox One saves are compatible with Xbox Series S/X devices.

It's super easy on Xbox. Smart Delivery ensures that your machine will run the appropriate version of the game -- although next-gen upgrades aren't arriving until next year. Until then, your Series S/X is simply running a backward compatible version of Cyberpunk 2077. Regardless, saves will transfer via the cloud (or do a manual local network transfer). I upgraded my Assassin's Creed Valhalla save this way last week, and it worked flawlessly and instantly.

Exporting your save from PS4 to PS5 takes a little more initiative but it's not bad. CD Projekt Red says there are three ways to accomplish this. You can: Connect to your PlayStation Plus account and upload your saves to the cloud; transfer data via a wired or wireless connection; or use external storage to copy and transfer saves within the same PSN account.

Of course, switching platform families will require a full restart. So, if you're on PS5 before deciding you'd rather tackle it on PC, that (obviously) means starting a brand new save file. Choose wisely from the beginning because Cyberpunk 2077 is big enough that any lapse in judgement will probably cost you a whole lot of hours.

You can get the Providential Ring in Demon's Souls even if you didn't pick it as your starting gift

3 years 5 months ago

Demon's Souls fans have cracked the case of the Providential Ring. If you missed getting one, there's an alternate way to obtain the item beyond choosing it as your one-time-only starting gift. If you're way too deep in the New Game+ cycle, don't worry – you won't have to roll a new character after all.

Not only is the Providential Ring inherently useful – it raises your item discovery, which is helpful for farming – it's also needed for the King of Rings trophy. Without it, you're not getting that platinum.

I was fortunate enough to select it after weighing the other gifts, but if you didn't know better or you (understandably) assumed the ring could be earned another way, the community has come through.

As miraculously discovered by Reddit user Hawthorne64, the Providential Ring can be earned in a not-so-simple trade with Sparkly the Crow in level 4-1. You'll need to upgrade a Scimitar (there's one in level 1-1) to a Scimitar+8 with Blacksmith Ed, turn it into a Large Sword of Searching using the Hero Demon's Soul (from the Old Hero boss), and then trade it with the crow in the Shrine of Storms.

Astro A20 Wireless Headset Review (2020)

3 years 5 months ago

Another console generation, another set of headsets to consider. I have to imagine there are a lot of gamers like me that want something that’s a step up from entry-level but don’t want to pay what is nearly the price of a home console for their headset, thus the Astro A20 Wireless is going to get a lot of looks as people weigh their next-gen headset options. Without further ado then, let’s dive right into our 2020 review of the Astro A20 Wireless headset for the Xbox Series X and see how it holds up.

Japan Has Finally Made a Moving Gundam

3 years 5 months ago

Japan has done it. A Gundam that can move and (more or less) walk finally exists.

The massive 18-meters-tall RX-78-2 Gundam (the original Gundam) has been under construction in a dedicated facility on the Yamashita Pier in Yokohama, and it’s finally complete.

While the facility will be open to the public only in December, today a preview for the press was held, and below you can take a glimpse courtesy of the NHK, Japan’s state television.

Call me crazy, or excessively sentimental, but when I first saw the video I teared up.

The giant robot has been moving for a while during internal tests, some of which were shown on the internet, but this is its official debut.

Tiny MMO Book Of Travels reveals a new 30 minutes of magic and exploration

Might And Delight of Shelter series fame have been working on the lovely online game Book Of Travels that they call a TMO or “tiny multiplayer online” game which I very much hope becomes a thing. They’ve just revealed a whole half hour of gameplay narrated by creative director Jakob Tuchten who, much to my delight, spends nearly a third of the time in the character creator.

Wasting My Time In WoW And Destiny 2 Is Good Actually

PS4's Share Button Was So Great Everyone Copied It

You Can Finally Transfer Nintendo Switch Screenshots Directly to a Computer

3 years 5 months ago
A new Nintendo Switch firmware update has gone live and Ver. 11.0.0 adds several quality-of-life improvements that are actually meaningful. Features like finally being able to transfer videos and screenshots to a computer. Firmware 11.0.0 was pushed live today, and a big focus of today’s update involves getting your screenshots and gameplay capture off of the Switch and onto another device directly, either through a USB cable or wireless transfer. To access this, users can connect their Switch to a computer using a USB cable, go to System Settings, then Data Management, and finally to Manage Screenshots and Videos. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-top-25-switch-games-fall-2020-update&captions=true"] There is now also a feature that will automatically download saved data backed up on the cloud to multiple Switch consoles, granted the same Nintendo Account is linked to each device. However, the save data must already exist on each console, so you’ll still need to manually download the save data onto a second device first before being able to utilize this feature. Here are the full patch notes for Nintendo Switch Firmware 11.0.0 (via Nintendo’s website) [poilib element="accentDivider"]

Finally, an excuse to write about John Mulaney on a video game site

3 years 5 months ago

Look, so the good news is that John Mulaney is in a video game. The bad news is that it's Marvel Contest of Champions: a multi-currency free-to-play mobile game.

Look I'm just the messenger, don't sue me! Unless, as that messenger, I improperly serve you legal papers...then it's fair game!

Yes, the beloved writer, comedian and brief sitcom star (I'm SO sorry) is reprising his role from the universally liked Into the Spider-Verse film as Spider-Ham. There's even a quick clip below to get people hyped up about his appearance as Peter Porker.

The bad news (there's MORE bad news?!) is that he's only part of an Event Quest, called Framed by Fame. Pretty great title though! The update is out today and will run through December 31, which will grant players a "two-star Spider-Ham" if they participate. Gacha-like mechanics: can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em. Oh, and you also get to fight against a team of super heroes and villains "hand-picked" by Mulaney. If that's real — and not a series of hasty choices by a highly-paid intern, I'm sure —I'm not gonna lie, I kind of want to experience that.

You totally read this entire post in Mulaney's signature voice, didn't you? That's no accident.

Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One Update Offers Pre-Installing Game Pass Games

3 years 5 months ago

The Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One both received a console update that features pre-installing Game Pass games, new options for the dashboard, and more.

The November 2020 console update for all three systems now offers the ability to pre-install games that are scheduled to be added to Xbox Game Pass.

Xbox Game Pass games that allow pre-installing can be found in the “Coming Soon” section of the Game Pass app on the console. Microsoft noted that not all upcoming games will allow it, but the mobile Game Pass app can add it to players’ download queues when it is available to download.

The Xbox Series X|S dashboard received six new dynamic backgrounds that are include “homages to previous generations of Xbox consoles and others based on popular profile themes.” The dynamic backgrounds are a new feature to the Series consoles, and the company said it would continue to explore additional designs.

Also included in the console update are “Optimized for Series X|S” badges displayed in My Games and Apps, an Auto HDR tag shown while playing a game when it is turned on, achievement status in the Game Activity tab of the guide, and adding family member accounts during console setup.

Switch Firmware Update 11.0.0 Adds Ability to Transfer Screenshots to Smart Devices and More

3 years 5 months ago

The Nintendo Switch has just had its firmware updated to version 11.0.0, and there are actually several new features worth checking out.

Most notably, there is now a way to wirelessly transfer screenshots and videos to smart devices using a QR code. Up to 10 screenshots and one video can be transferred through this method at a time.

This can be helpful if you are trying to move your screenshots to your smart device in bulk while saving the image quality, which is a much better method than posting them to social media.

It is also now easier to use a USB cable to connect the Switch to a computer to copy screenshots and videos. This is added through a feature in System Settings called “Copy to a computer via USB connection.”

12 new user icons were added in this firmware update, each of them themed around Super Mario Bros. in order to celebrate his 35th anniversary.

It is now possible to select which download to prioritize, which is helpful for when there are multiple software downloads in progress.

Additionally, you can now rename present button mappings using the change button mapping feature, which was added in firmware update 10.0.0.

Furthermore, a Nintendo Switch Online button was added to the Switch’s home menu screen, and a “trending” section has been added to user pages to check what software friends are playing or have started playing recently.

You can learn more about what was added in firmware version 11.0.0 and how to update your system by visiting Nintendo’s website right here.
