Finding Self-Love Through Queer Romance and Video Games

3 years 10 months ago

That night was my turn to host. We hiked all over, taking in the island’s natural beauty and snacking on peaches. We visited Lucky’s house, chatting with my doggy neighbor and rolling around in his log bed. We even managed to get into a K.K. Slider show, for which I’d bought us matching Able Sisters-brand lolita…

Following Misconduct Allegations, Two Ubisoft Executives Have Been Suspended

3 years 10 months ago

Following an internal corporate investigation, Ubisoft has suspended vice presidents Tommy François and Maxime Béland--the two were responsible for overseeing worldwide development of the studio's games. According to Bloomberg, both men face at least three claims of misconduct.

In a statement to GameSpot, a Ubisoft spokesperson wrote, "These [men] are under investigation so we are not commenting further at this time."

Ubisoft has come under scrutiny in the past week, following a string of victims coming forward to report misconduct at the hands of the studio's employees. Ubisoft product and brand marketing manager Andrien Gbinigie was accused of sexual assault earlier this week on June 22, which Gbinigie denied in a now-removed Medium post. This was followed by Assassin's Creed Valhalla creative director Ashraf Ismail leaving Ubisoft on June 24 in the wake of accusations of infidelity.

Pokemon: Here's What You Get For Completing The Isle Of Armor Pokedex

3 years 10 months ago

The Isle of Armor--the setting of Pokemon Sword and Shield's first expansion--is home to more than 100 returning Pokemon not found in mainland Galar. When you first arrive, you'll be given a separate, island-specific Pokedex with which to catalog all of the newly added monsters, and some nice rewards await if you can catch 'em all. Here's what you get for completing the Pokedex. Isle of Armor spoilers follow.

Isle Of Armor Pokedex Rewards

After you catalog all 210 Pokemon in the Isle of Armor Pokedex, you'll need to return to the Armor Station in the Fields of Honor and speak with the scientist who first gave it to you. Show her the completed Pokedex and you'll receive a certificate commemorating your achievement, along with a couple of neat rewards.

First is the Mark Charm, a brand-new item that increases the likelihood that you'll encounter marked Pokemon. These marks are displayed alongside Ribbons on the Pokemon's summary screen and give that monster a special title when you send it out into battle. On top of that, you'll receive the Replica Gold Crown, which your trainer will be able to wear in place of a hat. You can take a look at the rewards below.

Square Enix To Announce Multiple Games In Next Few Months

3 years 10 months ago

Square Enix will announce multiple games individually throughout July and August in lieu of having a press conference, Gematsu reports. During a shareholder meeting it was asked how the company would announce new video games since it did not have an E3 press conference due to the entire event being canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Square Enix responded that it would be announcing games (plural) "individually as the timing permits."

The company followed up saying that several will debut around July to August, but nothing more specific was said. Square Enix recently announced Project Athia at the PS5 reveal event, a new action-adventure game designed exclusively for PS5.

Its most recent release was Final Fantasy VII Remake. GameSpot awarded it a 10/10 in our Final Fantasy VII Remake review, with critic Tamoor Hussain writing, "Final Fantasy VII Remake's narrative and characterization achievements are facilitated by gameplay that feels modern but is crystallized around the classic's role-playing fundamentals. In many ways, its gameplay model feels like the culmination of the franchise's evolutions, with ideas from throughout the series brought together in a composite that is fresh but familiar. This is the first time that the action-focused style of modern-era Final Fantasy games doesn't feel like it comes at the expense of the methodical nature of the series' roots."

The Best Cyberpunk Anime for Newcomers

3 years 10 months ago
2020 may be the year of Cyberpunk 2077, but developer CD Projekt Red has more than just a video game in the pipeline. Announced during the Night City Wire broadcast, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a collaborative project between famed anime powerhouse Studio Trigger and streaming giant Netflix that will see Night City expand beyond its video game roots, venturing into the territory of animation for a 10-episode series that’ll feature new characters and story set within the game’s grim world of tomorrow. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners won’t be released until 2022, so what’s a fan of cybernetic enhancements and dystopian future worlds supposed to do until then? Watch some other cyberpunk anime, of course! There’s no shortage of material within that genre, as the last few decades have given birth to not only classic examinations of how technology could impact humanity, but also modern-day masterpieces that have helped to shape the world of entertainment. Here’s a look at 10 essential anime cyberpunk series to jack into. The wildlife within the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is ever-changing. Depending on the time of the year and time of day, different fish and bugs will be able to be caught. So every time that a new month comes along, there are some creatures that will go away until it comes back to your island, which can sometimes take a very long time.

Now that June 2020 is coming to a close, there are five bugs that will be leaving your Animal Crossing island and will not be available in July. Surprisingly, there are no fish leaving this month, which makes your critter-collecting much easier to manage.

Bring Cyberpunk To Your Tabletop

3 years 10 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting video game releases of the year, but it’s certainly not a game or setting that arose fully formed in 2020. Rather, the video game is the digital evolution of a franchise that has existed for decades, which itself arose around a movement in speculative fiction that came to popularity through the often psychedelic and convention-challenging new wave sci-fi fiction of the 1960s, including the seminal short story Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (1968) by Philip K. Dick.

Subsequently, multiple mediums saw an explosion of exploration in the cyberpunk. The Judge Dredd comic (1977), the film Bladerunner (1982) (based on Dick’s previously mentioned story), manga like Akira (1982), and the novel Neuromancer (1984) were just some of the foundational fictions within the genre.

Inspired in part by some of those projects, designer Mike Pondsmith brought life to the first edition of the Cyberpunk tabletop RPG in 1988, opening up a dark and dystopian future world for exploration, where the characters had deeply personal motives but broad agency to act in a tech-infused street-level setting. In the years since, the game has seen multiple revisions, and dozens of books and supplements.

The Last Of Us Part 2: Every Easter Egg And Reference We've Found

3 years 10 months ago

The Last of Us Part II is now out and it contains plenty of callbacks to the first game and references to other pieces of pop culture. In the following article, we're going to focus on that latter group--so here's every single Easter egg we've found in The Last of Us Part II. We're going to be talking about several moments throughout the game, so turn back now if you want to avoid spoilers.

If you want to know about all the callbacks to the first game, we've got you covered there as well. In the video embedded below, Evan Langer and Jake Dekker detail all of the Easter eggs, callbacks, and references in Part II--which includes all of the items, scenes, and dialogue that are in reference to The Last of Us and The Last of Us: Left Behind.

So right at the beginning of the game, Joel plays the guitar and sings for Ellie. The song is real--it's Pearl Jam's "Future Days," which was officially released on October 11, 2013. Of course, with Outbreak Day occurring on September 26, 2013, the song was never actually released in the world of The Last of Us. Joel likely heard Pearl Jam perform "Future Days" live (it was first performed in July of that year) and managed to memorize the song or happened upon a CD that was locked away in some warehouse somewhere just waiting to be distributed.

KonoSuba Plus JRPG for PS4 & Nintendo Switch Gets New Trailer Showing Opening Cutscene

3 years 10 months ago

Today Entergram released a new trailer of Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! Kibou no Meikyuu to Tsudoishi Boukenshata Plus, which from now on I’m going to call “Konosuba Plus” because there’s no way I’m going to write that mouthful more than once per article.

The trailer features the opening cutscene of the game, which includes the theme song “Stand Up!” performed by Machico.  You’re possibly familiar with her voice because she sang multiple pieces for the original Konosuba anime.

Of course, the video includes most of the characters that will be familiar among fans of the series.

You can watch it below.

If you’re unfamiliar with Konosuba Plus, it’s a re-release of the dungeon-crawling RPG released a while ago for PS4 and PS Vita, losing the PS Vita version, gaining a Nintendo Switch port, and adding a few new featured as announced at the beginning of June.

Of course, it’s inspired by the light novel series by Natsume Akatsuki, which gave birth to a bunch of manga and a popular anime series.

It’ll launch in Japan on August 27, while no western release has been announced so far.

Marvel's Iron Man VR New Combat, World Details Revealed

3 years 10 months ago
Marvel's Iron Man VR is set to be released on PlayStation VR on July 3, 2020, and developer Camouflaj has given us one last look at the game's combat, world, and all-star cast before next week. Marvel's Iron Man VR's director Ryan Payton of Camouflaj took to PlayStation.Blog to give fans an "unprecedented look at what you can expect from the full game." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/04/02/iron-man-vr-hands-on-impressions"]

Big & Open Environments

The environments in Marvel's Iron Man VR needed to be huge to accommodate for players flying at high speeds as Tony Stark. Payton confirms that "you can fit twenty-three entire world instances of République into the initial Maliby environment." République was Camouflaj's first game. Payton continued by discussing some of the environments players will travel to as Iron Man, including a fully realized S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier that Iron Man can fly in and outside of. Another location will be Shanghai, which "gives players the unique sensation of flying through a high density downtown with plenty of tall buildings to weave in between." The story will also take Iron Man to a decommissioned Stark Industries plant.

Doom Eternal's latest update adds new Battlemode map, Doom Classic filter, more

3 years 10 months ago

Doom Eternal's latest update has arrived on Xbox One, PS4, and PC, introducing a range of new features including a brand-new Battlemode map and, for the aesthetes in the house, a selection of visual filters to fancy up your screen.

On the 2v1 Battlemode front, there's the aforementioned new arena, known as Torment, which features a deserted UAC outpost, abandoned after the Slayer prevented Hell's invasion of Earth. "The Titans, once used as research specimens," says id Software, "remain eternal prisoners of this unholy excavation."

Players can also expect a range of latency improvements for Battlemode as part of today's Doom Eternal Update 2.

Dr Disrespect Addresses Permanent Twitch Ban, Reason Still Unclear

3 years 10 months ago

High-profile Twitch streamer Herschel "Guy" Beahm IV (better known as Dr Disrespect) has been banned from the livestreaming platform yet again. And this time, it may be permanent, rather than a temporary matter involving a DMCA. Beahm himself said he is unsure of why he was banned. However, others on Twitter claim the reason could be very serious and is not because of a copyright claim.

It's unclear exactly why or how long Dr Disrespect will be banned. Following news of the ban Dr Disrespect did not say anything publicly about the situation, and searching for his Twitch account yielded no results. However, on June 27, a day after news of the ban broke, Beahm broke his silence and posted an update on Twitter, addressing his fans. According to the streamer, Twitch has not provided him with any specific reason for the ban.

Twitch itself has offered no specific explanation for the move publicly. Of course, this has left room for speculation. Some have suggested that it could be the result of a DMCA takedown (of which there has been a flurry recent). However, this would ordinarily result in a temporary ban.

Square Enix will announce their upcoming games individually in July and August

3 years 10 months ago

As we know, E3 was cancelled this year because of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. Instead, we’ve been beset by FakE3, a series of video presentations spread out across the summer by publishers, news outlets, and the like. I figured that Square Enix would be among that number. Covid-19 put a spanner in that too though. Squenix are now planning to deliver announcements individually throughout July and August. You know, just like the rest of the year.

Here's your first glimpse of Netflix's animated Cuphead series

3 years 10 months ago

It's been almost a year since Netflix revealed it was turning developer Studio MDHR's acclaimed run-and-gunner Cuphead into an animated TV series, but finally the streaming service is ready to share more; and we've now been treated to the first (brisk) look at The Cuphead Show.

Netflix's animated Cuphead series is described as a "character-driven comedy" that follows the "unique misadventures of the impulsive Cuphead and his cautious but easily swayed brother Mugman", and will, as you'd very much hope, stick closely to the game's memorable Fleischer-Studios-inspired 1930s cartoon aesthetic.

Most of that we knew previously, but now Netflix has provided a small peek at how the game will translate to TV screens in a short behind-the-scenes video posted to the NX Twitter page. It features a smattering of footage from the show, and introduces two of its key voice stars.

Fixes Coming For The Outer Worlds On Switch

3 years 10 months ago

When The Outer Worlds released last year on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, it won acclaim from critics and consumers alike for its choice-driven gameplay and clever writing. However, when the RPG came to Switch, players on Nintendo's console didn't get to see the game at its best; the performance can be pretty rough

To address concerns with the Switch version, publisher Private Division has announced that Virtuos (the team behind the Switch version) is working on ways to improve the experience, and that a patch is in the works.

https://twitter.com/PrivateDivision/status/1276213684310650880

Though we don't know exactly when the fixes will be available, it's good to know that Switch owners will soon get a clearer picture of what makes The Outer Worlds so good.
