Build-A-Bear Is Introducing an Animal Crossing: New Horizons Collection

3 years 1 month ago

Build-A-Bear Workshop is teaming up with Nintendo once again to bring a new special collection to their stores, this time featuring Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

So far, we only know that the collection is happening and that it is “coming soon.” Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too much longer to hear about this collaboration. We expect we’ll be able to create plush versions of all of our favorite New Horizons characters.

In the past, Build-A-Bear Workshop has teamed up with Nintendo to bring collections from Mario and Pokemon. It seems like Animal Crossing is the perfect collaboration since there are so many possible characters to create a plush of.

PS5 Developers Can Now Add Denuvo Anti-Cheat to Their Games

3 years 1 month ago
Denuvo Anti-Cheat has joined the PlayStation 5 Tools and Middleware program, hoping to help developers to fight cheaters on the platform. Revealed in a press release from Denuvo creator Irdeto, the company announced that game publishers and developers would be able to leverage its anti-cheat technology to "bring cheating to an end" on PlayStation 5. "Denuvo, the leader in video games protection, offers its Anti-Cheat solution through this program to publishers and developers whose games are available on PlayStation 5," the release reads. Denuvo reasons that its tools will allow developers to protect their investment, when "approximately 70% of their revenue is earned in the first two weeks after the launch of a game." Many developers risk losing their player base if a game is overrun by cheaters. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/28/top-10-ps5-games"] Irdeto said that Denuvo's technology allows developers to "secure both online gameplay as well as securely reward offline progress," and mentioned that it was already being used in a number of PlayStation 5 launch games (although it's not clear which ones). The company reiterated that its technology "has no negative impact on in-game performance," and noted that it has protected "over 2 billion unique game installs" across all gaming platforms. Denuvo has been controversial in the games community previously. id Software recently added and then later removed Denuvo Anti-Cheat from Doom Eternal following online backlash from players.

EU Rust Servers Destroyed After OVH Data Center Fire

3 years 1 month ago

A fire at one of OVH’s data centers, located in Strasbourg, France, has affected a number of companies today, including Facepunch Studios and its hugely popular online survival game Rust.

The developer had earlier today noted on Twitter that EU servers had suddenly gone offline. After investigating the issue, it was discovered that a fire at OVH had destroyed building SBG-2, which housed Rusts’ servers. The incident has now rendered huge amounts of data permanently lost.

OVH is the largest hosting provider in Europe and the third-largest in the world. The cloud computing company provides dedicated servers, as well as other web services.

PAX Australia Returns In 2021 With COVID-19 Cases On The Decline

3 years 1 month ago

After cancelling 2020's show due to the pandemic, PAX Australia is back on for 2021. The organizers have announced that the event will take place at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Center this October 8-10.

Due to the pandemic, this won't be the same PAX as you may remember it. The organizers said they are taking "all necessary precautions for public health," and this will include following national and local health guidelines that are in place in October.

While that information is still up in the air, PAX Aus will only sell a "limited" number of tickets to the show due to the current capacity restrictions in place at the site. However, the organizers said they are hopeful that conditions continue to improve in Melbourne and that they can sell more tickets before the show.

Refunds will be available for those who buy a ticket now but cannot attend in October due to any new health and safety measures that could be implemented by show time.

Melbourne, and the rest of Australia's major cities, have done a stand-out job in their efforts to slow and stop the spread of COVID-19. Australia overall has had fewer than 30,000 cases and under 1,000 deaths related to the virus.

Melbourne, the host city of PAX Aus, reported zero new cases on March 10.

PAX Aus isn't the first PAX event in 2021 to hold a live event. PAX West is scheduled for September 3-6 in Seattle, and it will be followed up by PAX East which runs June 3-6 in Boston. Those shows are scheduled to go forward as live, in-person events, pending any rules and regulations around the pandemic that might come up.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge Announced for PC and Consoles

3 years 1 month ago
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge has been announced for PC and consoles. It's a 4-player co-op, side-scrolling brawler, developed by members of the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game team. Inspired by games like 1991's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge offers a classic pixelated art style and "shell-shocking new abilities built on a foundation of classic brawling mechanics." Players will fight through "a breathless tour of iconic TMNT locations" such as the NYC sewers and Dimension X to thwart Bebop, Rocksteady, Krang and Shredder. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/10/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-shredders-revenge-official-reveal-trailer"] The trailer for Shredder's Revenge (above) also debuts a new take on the famous TMNT theme song, performed by Faith No More's Mike Patton. A release date for the game was not provided, but we know the game will come to PC and consoles when it launches. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge will be published by Dotemu in association with Nickelodeon, and is being developed by Tribute Games, whose previous work includes Flinthook and Mercenary Kings: Reloaded Edition. Tribute is made up of former Ubisoft employees who worked on beat-em-ups like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game and the 2007 TMNT hack-and-slash movie tie-in.

Watch Dogs: Legion launches online multiplayer on PlayStation, Xbox, and Stadia

3 years 1 month ago

Ubisoft has launched the online component for its blah open-world sequel Watch Dogs: Legion. The new multiplayer modes are now live on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Stadia platforms. The PC update has been halted for the time being due to technical issues.

Watch Dogs: Legion now offers a "Co-Op Free Roam" mode, which allows budding Brit hackers the opportunity to team up with a squad of three friends and take a stroll through the streets of London, completing activities and side-quests while enjoying the bizarre juxtaposition of character models paired with ill-fitting voice-actors.

New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game Shredder's Revenge Coming To PC And Consoles

3 years 1 month ago

A brand-new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game is on the way called TMNT: Shredder's Revenge. It's inspired by the beloved 1991 arcade game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time. Much like that game, Shredder's Revenge is a side-scrolling beat-em-up, and it's being developed by Tribute Games and published by Dotemu. It's set to release on both PC and consoles, although there's no word on exactly which consoles it'll be available on.

Taking a retro pixel art direction, Shredder's Revenge preserves the teenage mutants' original 1987 design and presents classic villains like Krang and Shredder. The game takes place in locations familiar to the TMNT universe, from the streets of New York City to Dimension X. A Steam page is now live, although no price is listed.

Just as you'd expect, Shredder's Revenge supports four-player co-op multiplayer as you square off against Shredder and the Foot Clan. Each turtle has their own moves and skills, and you'll be able to utilize combos as you deal with your foes. There's also a mention of vehicles and a story mode.

Publisher and developer Dotemu's past titles include Streets of Rage 4 and Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap. Tribute Games made the retro-inspired games Panzer Paladin, Flinthook, and Mercenary Kings. A few current members of the studio were also on the 2007 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game for the Game Boy Advance.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles return with some four-person brawling in Shredder's Revenge

3 years 1 month ago

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are set to make their video game return in Shredder's Revenge, a side-scrolling beat-em-up inspired by the retro likes of TMNT: Turtles In Time, that's coming to PC and consoles at some currently unspecified future point.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is a collaboration between Dotemu - the publisher behind Streets of Rage 4 and Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap - and developer Tribute Games, which created the excellent Flinthook and Mercenary Kings.

It promises to take Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello on a "breathless tour of iconic TMNT locations" - from the sewers of New York City to Dimension X - that pits them against the likes of Bebop, Rocksteady, Krang, and Shredder.

3 years 1 month ago

Click to watch embedded media

Ah, Mario Day. That special time of year where fans can pay slightly less for games and merch featuring the Nintendo icon and his cohort of crazy characters. He can even be found in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which is the truest form of success if you ask me.

Mario is everywhere, and we thought it only fitting to celebrate his day at Game Informer as well. But instead of just going live with some of his classic adventures, we thought we'd spice it up for our beautiful GI community. It's a battle of the Alexes on today's livestream as Alex Van Aken and I go head to head in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury!

The rules are simple. We'll be hopping into Super Mario 3D World's newly-added campaign to see who can collect 20 cat shines the quickest. We'll both be starting with a fresh save, and as a bonus, you'll be able to watch both screens to see who reigns supreme by the end of the stream! Which Alex will reign supreme? What are we willing to put on the line? You'll have to tune in to find out.

Worship is a cult-commanding action-exploration game that takes cues from Pikmin

3 years 1 month ago

Worship is a game about leading your cultists into battle, Pikmin style, and I am so, so here for it. It reminds me of the first time I saw Don't Starve. The art style and concept immediately grabbed me.

This is the next game from Struggling developer Chasing Rats Games, and it's making the rounds through Kickstarter right now with a hopeful 2022 release planned for PC and consoles. It's on Steam.

As a cult leader striving to unleash an old god – there are multiple; you get to pick! – you'll perform rituals, convert bystanders to help the cause, and command them in real-time battles with beasts and inquisitors. Exploration is a focal point in Worship, and on a related note, it has roguelike elements.

I could take or leave that choice, but I will say, (optional) multiplayer helps sell me on a roguelike structure – there will thankfully be local and online co-op for four players. "A right mix of procedural and handcrafted elements will make each game session different and fun to dive in," the developers say.

Apart from combat and puzzles out in the world, there's also base building – you'll raise monuments to regenerate blood more quickly for rituals and increase the number of followers you can lead. There's a lot to like in the pitch, including overviews of the freaky old gods and how they impact gameplay.

More than anything, though, you've gotta see this game, not just read about it:

Call Of Duty: Warzone Anniversary Swag Teases Zombies Invasion Again

3 years 1 month ago

Call of Duty: Warzone appears to be getting a zombie invasion. Following a teaser last week that implied the undead hordes might overtake Verdansk, a package appears to be going out to streamers with yet another clue.

Streamer PrestigeIsKey tweeted about a package he received to mark the one-year anniversary of Warzone. It includes what appears to be an orange prison jumpsuit with "Captured" printed on it, and a small card with the Warzone logo. The card reads: "There are no second chances after losing a battle here. The outer prison is a hostile-rich environment. You're safer in the ghoul-ag."

The "ghoul-ag" is a wordplay on the Gulag, an special environment in Warzone matches that lets you fight your way back into the main match. But the "ghoul" part gives it a notably horror feel. The note also implies that zombies will be overrunning the outer territory, and that it could even impact the gulag second-chance mechanic itself.

Destiny Child Passes 10 Million Downloads Worldwide

3 years 1 month ago

Today Korean developer Shift Up announced that its mobile game Destiny Child has passed a relevant downloads milestone.

The game, which has been available for iOS and Android since 2016, has passed 10 million downloads worldwide.

To celebrate, players who log in from now until April 10 will receive special lucky boxes including random rewards, including Child Summon Tickets, Ignition Core Materials, Equipment Craft Tools, Crystals, and Blood
Gems.

Users who have not logged in for the past 30 days will also receive a 5-star Tamamo, crystal, and other rewards via a special 8-day login bonus.

A new raid and storyline have been implemented to celebrate the milestone on top of the rewards.

If you’re unfamiliar with Destiny Child, it’s basically the quintessential waifu gacha game thanks to the artwork by popular Korean artist Kim Hyung Tae (who worked on the Magna Carta series and Blade & Soul, among other things). The player takes the role of a weak but kind demon as he needs to lead a bunch of waifus named “Child” (ok, there are also a few male ones, but no one really cares) to fight against other demons.

Incidentally, Shift Up is also preparing for the future, developing the mobile game NIKKE: The Goddess of Victory, and Project EVE for consoles and PC.

Astro's Playroom Soundtrack: The Story Behind the Catchy GPU Jungle Song

3 years 1 month ago
Out of the many delights that came from PS5 pack-in Astro’s Playroom, the unexpected earworm track from the GPU Jungle level may have just been the best surprise of them all. And, surprisingly, it was the first pieces of music that composer Kenny Young created as he put together Astro’s first score for PlayStation 5. That score will be available digitally on March 12, for those hoping to get that or any of Astro’s many other delightful songs stuck in their heads. But ahead of its launch, Young spoke to IGN about the process of creating the score and its biggest hits, like the GPU Jungle track, as well as why the game being a free download for every PS5 owner allowed the LittleBigPlanet and Astro Bot: Rescue Mission composer to take some risks he may not have otherwise. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/06/astros-playroom-review"] “After we'd finished working on Rescue Mission, [Creative Director Nicolas Doucet] and I had spoken quite a bit about how particularly the use of voice in the soundtrack for Rescue Mission seemed to add a human element to the soundtrack and to the project... and people seemed to really respond to that,” he explained. “[And] the fact that this game was going to be pre-installed in every PlayStation 5, that meant in some respects, the commercial pressure that would be there for a traditional product was kind of lifted because... We didn't have the weight of having to justify people's purchase decisions just through our product, and that meant that we could maybe afford to take a few creative risks on Astro's Playroom that otherwise, we might have been too scared to go there.” Taking those two ideas to heart, Young went about beginning to work on his second Astro Bot score.

Alternate WWII adventure Paradise Lost hits PC and consoles this month

3 years 1 month ago

It's been quite some time since we last heard from PloyAmorous' twisted history title Paradise Lost. In Paradise Lost, players will control the destiny of Szymon, a child living in the irradiated wasteland that was once Poland. While scavenging for resources during a self-imposed quest to track down a mysterious guardian, Szymon stumbles across an abandoned Nazi bunker, filled with frightening technology and decked out in haunting Pagan iconography. Bungie on Destiny 2's Content Vault, solo challenges and the return of Exotic missions

3 years 1 month ago

Last month, we spoke with Bungie general manager Justin Truman to discuss Destiny 2's latest major update Season of the Chosen.

We start by talking about the surprise return of Exotic missions in recent weeks. These are secret quests which can be attempted alone or as part of a team, and between their challenge and unique spin on Destiny's mechanics, are up there with dungeons and raids as some of the best activities the game has to offer.

As well as this, how the community has inspired recent solo challenges and the future of live events in Destiny 2, we also discuss the approach for the Destiny Content Vault - an initiative which allows Bungie to cycle out destinations, maps and modes from the game, and also reintroduce things from Destiny's past - starting with the original Destiny's Cosmodrome area in late 2020, and the Vault of Glass raid later this year.

Explore A Mysterious Bunker In Post-Apocalyptic Europe In Paradise Lost This Month

3 years 1 month ago

Paradise Lost offers a unique and horrific spin on World War II. Instead of raging for six years, it lasted for 20 and ended in a bloody stalemate after most of Europe was obliterated by Nazi nuclear missles. Europe is now an irradiated wasteland cut off from the rest of the world, and players assume the role of a young child trying to survive its hardships decades later. If that setup piques your interest, you’ll be happy to know that Paradise Lost is launching later this month.

On March 24, players can pick up this narrative adventure by Polish developer PolyAmorous. In 1980s Poland players control Szymon, a 12-year old orphan born and raised within this terrible version of Europe who stumbles upon an abandoned military bunker. Once inside, he’s contacted by a mysterious girl named Ewa who acts as a guide of sorts, but players will have to experience the game themselves to learn what her true intentions are. There’s also a grander mystery surrounding the bunker itself and the fate of its former inhabitants.

Fall Guys Season 4 has seven new levels and Skyline Stumble makes a good first impression

3 years 1 month ago

It's hard to believe we're almost ready for Season 4 of Fall Guys, but I've given up on my ability to accurately judge the passage of time; leave that to the Sandman. As the still-running Season 3 winds down, Mediatonic has begun teasing the seven new levels arriving soon-ish with Season 4.

In a clip on Twitter, the studio showed off Skyline Stumble, a traversal-heavy level built for 60 beans. The stage looks challenging in the ways I want to be challenged, with varied obstacles – including pinball flippers, low-gravity zones, and intermittent bridges – as well as routes to plan out.

So yeah! If you hadn't heard, the next seasonal theme for Fall Guys is futuristic. It's a common enough trope, but based on this first gameplay footage, I'm excited to see these levels in the rotation.

According to Mediatonic, the Season 4 release date will be announced on March 15. We also recently learned that Season 4 will have 50 progression/reward levels, not the usual 40 levels of Fame.

Rust Developer Expecting 'Large Amount Of Data Loss' Following Server Fire

3 years 1 month ago
Rust developer Facepunch Studios has said that it is expecting a "large amount of data loss" after a fire burst out at a datacenter that held many of the game's EU servers. The news came in a tweet from the official Rust account earlier today, as the studio learned that a blaze had broken out at the OVHCloud Datacenter in Strasbourg, France. "25 of our EU servers remain offline due to a fire at OVH Datacenter in the early hours of this morning," the statement reads. "Unfortunately, the fire destroyed SBG-2 building. We're expecting a large amount of data loss across the affected servers." According to a statement from OVHCloud, the fire broke out at 12:47am local time on March 10. The fire was contained several hours later, and OVHCloud has confirmed that no one was harmed.

Report: No Elden Ring News This Month This Month Due To Recent Leak

3 years 1 month ago

Earlier this month, a new Elden Ring trailer leaked, further giving fire to the rumors that a new reveal was on the way this month. Now, a new report suggests that the rumored reveal for Elden Ring is not happening due to said leak.

In a new video, VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb suggests that the rumored March reveal is no longer happening because of the earlier leak. In an earlier video for GamesBeat Decides, a "combination of sources" told Grubb that an Elden Ring showcase of some kind would be happening by the end of March. He was cautious about stating that the "end of March" timeline was not a set date and could change at any time. That was a pretty safe call to make because, in his latest video, the situation has reportedly changed due to the trailer leak.

(Update) There's a set of three new Pokemon physical My Nintendo rewards, and they could go fast

3 years 1 month ago

[Update: The Pokemon pens are gone!

But Nintendo has also added two Mario 35 rewards into the mix: a "three year journal" and a pencil case. You can find them here.]

In what is becoming a biweekly event, there are now new physical My Nintendo rewards available.

Following the recent Bravely Default II reversible poster, Nintendo just dumped three new physical Pokemon rewards into the mix: a set of four ball point pens (with the three Pokemon Sword and Shield starters, as well as Pikachu), a Pokemon Sword and Shield memo pad, and a Pokemon Sword and Shield sticker set. You can grab them for 500, 400, and 500 Platinum Points each respectively.

The pens come in a 6"x3" package for reference, and the note pad is 6"x4"x1/8". The sticker set includes "two sheets featuring Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble," and clocks in at 11"x7". Stationary is becoming quite the go-to for My Nintendo, as there's also an 800 point Mario & Luigi notebook available, as well as a Hyrule Warriors memo pad (which is a little bigger and 200 more platinum to compensate).

While stationary generally stays in stock for a while, by and large it does disappear over time. My guess is the extreme popularity of Pokemon could result in at least the pens selling out relatively soon.

If you need some quick points, remember to check out our guide!
