We Were Here Forever Announced For PC, PS5, And Xbox Series X

3 years 2 months ago

The We Were Here franchise will continue this year with a new sequel called We Were Here Forever scheduled to launch in Q4 on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The sequel promises a co-op adventure with new challenges and puzzles, and a "thrilling" story. Like its predecessors, players will need to work together in co-op to solve a series of new puzzles.

The largest We Were Here game to date, Forever delivers a "big step up," according to managing director Lucia de Visser from developer Total Mayhem.

"Our goal for We Were Here Forever is to further refine the cooperative gameplay people love so much from the series, designed for a new generation of hardware with a more immersive, darker, livelier Castle Rock. We Were Here Forever is a big step up for the series. Furthermore, this game will bring some new insights on the mystery of Castle Rock. One cannot help but wonder what happened to those explorers who got left behind," the developer said.

For those new to the series, you play as an Antarctic explorer who gets mixed up in the wild world of Castle Rock. You're separated from your co-op partner most of the time, so you need to communicate by walkie-talkie to solve the asymmetric puzzles.

Capcom has newbie Monster Hunters covered with Monster Hunter Rise video guides

3 years 2 months ago

For many Nintendo Switch owners, the upcoming Monster Hunter Rise will be their first foray into the dangerous world of... monster hunting. As such, developer Capcom has some new videos in order to help budding young stalkers find their feet within the fantasy franchise - as opposed to just finding their feet detached from the rest of their body.

The first two videos in the "Hunting 101" series look at the fundamentals of Monster Hunter. The "Overview" video takes a brief look at the hunt in its entirety, from inventory and preparation, to tracking your chosen beasties, to the epic battle itself, one that will ultimately find you the victor, or lunch. The video also looks at the spoils of the battle, and how loot and resources are used to improve your weapons and gear, setting you up for bigger and hardier prey.

A Game That Lets You Run A Dog Shelter Is Coming Later This Year

3 years 2 months ago

A new game called To The Rescue! is mixing adorable puppies with management simulation, tasking players with taking care of rescued dogs as well as keeping the shelter afloat. The game is being developed by studio Little Rock Games and published by Freedom Games, who have announced that To The Rescue! will release on Steam and Nintendo Switch in fall this year.

The game will include a lot of features common to management sims, tasking players with designing and building the shelter, running its finances, and hiring staff. However it'll also include the day-to-day care of the animals, including feeding, playing with, and medicating the dogs. Players will also be tasked with getting to know the personalities of both the puppies in their care and the potential adopters, making sure to suggest the right match for both parties.

"The challenges dog shelters and their volunteers face every day truly inspire us," said Olivia Dunlap, co-founder of Little Rock Games. "It's a setting we felt was ripe for exploration in games and we look forward to bringing this world to Nintendo Switch and Steam later this year."

To The Rescue! will release on PC and Mac via Steam, as well as on the Nintendo Switch. The game will launch at $19.99, with the studio pledging to share 20% of its profits with pet shelters in the real world.

Marvel's Avengers Update Will Finally Let You Replay The Campaign

3 years 2 months ago

In today's developer stream for Marvel's Avengers, Crystal Dynamics announced that players will be able to replay the game's campaign when the Hawkeye update goes live on March 18. The update is set to be a big one, with Hawkeye and his related content being added, as well as the game's PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launch.

On the stream, community manager Andy Wong acknowledged that a replayable campaign has been one of the most-requested features from fans. "This is something we've been seeing over and over again on Twitter and socials and everything: 'Can we replay the campaign? Can we replay the campaign?,'" Wong said, as reported by Game Informer. "You can on the 18th! You will keep everything you have. You keep XP, your gear, and everything, but you can replay the campaign from start to finish."

Players will have to completely reset their campaign progress in order to replay it, but they will retain all character progress and inventory items.

The next update is a big one, with the next-gen upgrade bringing a number of changes including a total slowdown of the XP system. The update also brings new content, including the conclusion to the Hawkeye story and his addition as a playable hero, a new villain and biome, and the introduction of customizable H.A.R.M. Rooms.

Microsoft Flight Simulator's Sim Update 3 Is Out Now: Patch Notes

3 years 2 months ago

Microsoft Flight Simulator's third sim update is out now, bringing with it a handful of new features as well as a huge list of tweaks, fixes and changes. Unlike the game's world updates, which finesse the geography of certain countries, the sim updates focus entirely on the aircraft, cockpits, and how they fly.

In terms of new content, the third sim update has added FSX legacy liveries for fans of 2006's Flight Simulator X. These liveries are available on select planes including the Kenmore, Emerald Gold, Global Freightways, Orbit, Pacifica, and World Travel. The new update also adds a nice little visual bump in the form of aircraft contrails, though these aren't compatible with AI or multiplayer mode yet.

A new customization feature is designed for people who want to simulate real-world aircraft as accurately as possible. The new menu will allow players to "perfectly match specific real world aircraft," with the ability to change factors such as empty center of gravity position, fuselage wear, and maximum angle limits.

The rest of the changes in the 1.14.5.0 update are tweaks, balances, and fixes, designed to make sure all the aircraft in the game perform as close as possible to their real-life counterparts. A number of VR-related fixes are also included in the update, after global VR compatibility was introduced to the flight sim at the end of last year.

Game Devs Explain Why Doors Are One Of The Worst Features To Implement

3 years 2 months ago

When you think about the most difficult parts of making a game, it's unlikely that the humble door would be front of mind--unless you're a game dev who's attempted doors before. A Twitter thread by indie dev Stephan Hövelbrinks, who is working on Death Trash, revealed that doors are notoriously within game development, with developers on titles like The Last Of Us Part 2 and The Witcher 3 chiming in to agree.

Hövelbrinks explains that the biggest issues arise from doors being "a dynamic funnel and block in the pathfinding, potentially locked, potentially destructible, but in general because they sit potentially between any game interaction or character to character situation from here to there."

Resident Evil movie poster leaves fans asking 'Barry? Where's Barry?'

3 years 2 months ago

Constantin Films has released a basic teaser poster for its upcoming big-screen adaptation of Capcom's horror franchise, Resident Evil. The new poster first appeared on Twitter courtesy of actor Chad Rook, who will star in the movie reboot as S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team member Richard Aiken.

While the poster leaves much to the imagination, one can't help but immediately notice the influence of Resident Evil 4's creepy artwork, putting the red in "redwoods." Somewhat clunkily dotted around the image is a selection of names, offering a who's who of Resident Evil characters who will all presumably be making their presence felt in the new movie.

Of note are the "Big Four" of Chris & Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Leon S. Kennedy, alongside femme fatale Ada Wong, doomed scientist William Birkin, scuzzy Raccoon City police chief Brian Irons and, of course, antagonist Albert Wesker. But hugely conspicuous by his absence is lovable dolt Barry Burton - he of many of Resi's finest quotes and memes. If the new movie plans to mash together the casts and plotlines of the survival-horror franchise's earliest releases, it certainly would be odd not to see Mr. Burton put in an appearance.

Barry-less or otherwise, Resident Evil is scheduled to premiere in theaters September 3.

PAX Australia Set for Live Show Return in October

3 years 2 months ago

In the past year, we have seen the pandemic lay waste to the plans of both game developers and the industry at large, resulting in delays, cancellations, and a new reality of remote working and events. With E3 2021 reportedly cancelled, this new normal looks set to continue. However, PAX Australia is stepping up to the plate next with a live show set for October.

The show will take place at its familiar home of the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. Due to capacity restrictions, ticket sales will be limited, at least in the initial stages.

With the unpredictable nature of the pandemic, the organizers are aware of how things can change in an instant seven months down the road. In a bid to reassure fans, all tickets that are sold will be eligible for refund if there are border closures or stricter enforcement of quarantines.

PAX Australia having a live show could be a disaster in the making, but there are reasons to be optimistic about the event actually happening.

The Australian government has provided stats that point to no locally acquired COVID-19 infections in the past week, with only 71 cases that acquired the virus overseas. If the trend keeps up, there will be cause for confidence that the live show can carry on.

The Idolmaster: Starlit Season for PS4 & PC Delayed By Several Months

3 years 2 months ago

Today Bandai Namco announced that the upcoming Idolmaster rhythm game The Idolmaster: Starlit Season will be delayed by several months.

The game was supposed to launch in Japan and Asia on May 27, 2021 for PS4 and PC via Steam. The new release date is October 14, 2021.

According to the announcement, this was done to improve quality before release.

It’s certainly a bit odd, considering that the previous release date was announced with big fanfare only a month ago, but it is what it is.

The Idolmaster: Starlit Season was initially announced nearly a year ago, back in January 2020.

No western release has been announced for the moment. I initially thought that the Steam launch could facilitate a debut in North America and Europe as it happened for other Bandai Namco titles, the Steam page is geo-locked and that certainly puts a dent in that theory.

We’ll have to wait and see if a miracle happens, but I would keep expectations in check.

Stadia Exclusive Super Bomberman R Online Rated by ESRB for PC

3 years 2 months ago

The Stadia train is definitely not in the best of conditions as of late. With the closure of its internal development studios, there is a need for Google’s cloud gaming service to depend on notable third-party offerings in order to be competitive. Now, one of its exclusives is apparently leaving Stadia, with the ESRB rating Super Bomberman R Online for PC.

If you are not familiar with Super Bomberman R Online, it is essentially a re-release of the original Super Bomberman R that launched on the Nintendo Switch back in 2017 before making its way onto PC a year later.

The original featured plenty of stages and characters from more than just Bomberman, but other Konami franchises as well. Castlevania, Star Soldier, Pop’n Music, and Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa have all been represented in the game.

Different consoles also got their share of exclusive characters.

Borderlands Movie Casts Creed II Actor Florian Munteanu As Krieg

3 years 2 months ago

Eli Roth's Borderlands movie casts another role, this time with Creed II actor Florian Munteanu as Krieg. Munteanu joins other big-name actors like Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, and more

Krieg is from a bandit family with a rough past tied to his mom for his perceived weakness. That lack of love toughened him up, only to have him captured by Dr. Benedict. When we met this character in Borderlands 2, he was a changed man from the doctor's experimentations; testing that led to the creation of the "Psychos" that love to shoot at us while exploring Pandora. He eventually escapes and kills the doctor that tormented him, but those experiments their mark. On one side, we have the manic "Psycho" personality while the other half of him is likened more to who he was prior to capture.

He's also the one charged with protecting Tiny Tina.

"Florian brings real humanity and multiple layers to a character who on the surface seems totally insane and brutally savage," said Roth in a recent press statement. "Krieg was by far the most difficult role to cast, and Florian brought him to life and grounded him in a way that I didn't know was possible. He's going to be a brilliant Krieg and will fit in perfectly with our incredible cast."

Outriders Demo Guide: Where To Farm For Legendary Loot

3 years 2 months ago

Jumping into the Outriders demo ahead of the game's launch on April 1 is worth it--not only is it a free way to see whether you'll enjoy the game, but your progress carries over into the full experience. To that end, farming for powerful legendaries can ensure you have a leg up on your foes. Your best course of action for finding rare items is to grind captain and boss fights.

Before getting on the grind for legendary items, you need to reach a certain World Tier. World Tiers determine how difficult Outriders is, increasing enemy health and damage but offering higher tier rewards more often. You'll unlock higher tiers in the demo just by leveling up. In World Tier 1-3, you won't see any legendary drops because the legendary drop rate bonus will only be +0%. Once you reach World Tier 4, that jumps up to +10% and at World Tier 5, it's +25%. That's still not an ideal bonus, but that's the highest World Tier you can unlock in the demo. So keep playing and leveling up until you unlock it--you'll likely reach it just by playing through the demo and completing all of the available campaign missions and each of the four optional side quests at least once. From here, there are two ideal methods.

Marvel Should Make A Silver Surfer Game With The No Man's Sky Team

3 years 2 months ago

Silver Surfer is one of Marvel Comics' strangest creations. He isn't as oddly designed as M.O.D.O.K. (who is essentially an evil version of Humpty Dumpty), or as far-fetched as Howard the Duck (the pants-less detective wonder), but he rides a surfboard through space and feeds planets to a giant man. He's a head-scratcher of a hero, but he's likable, and backed by a story fueled by love, power, and cosmic intrigue.

And that brings us to the question of why I am thinking of Silver Surfer in this particular moment.

PSA: Apex Legends Now Available On Nintendo Switch

3 years 2 months ago

Apex Legends is now available on Nintendo Switch, letting you experience the popular battle royale while you binge a streaming show or visit the restroom. Or both at once, we don't judge. Obviously you'll need a stable Internet connection for the multiplayer FPS, but other than that you can tote it around wherever you want.

You can find Apex Legends on the Nintendo eShop. The game is listed as 25 GB, but Nintendo suggests you have at least 30 GB available on your system to accommodate it. And like Apex on any other platform, it requires an EA account.

Valheim Cheats Guide - How To Use Console Commands To Control The Game

3 years 2 months ago

Valheim is a game about survival, building a settlement, and finding various materials to build better weapons and armor so that you can find and defeat the enemies of Odin. If you want to shortcut that process, though, you can, thanks to a huge number of Valheim developer console commands that allow you to cheat. The commands are very easy to use if you know what they are. Lucky for you, we've got the complete list of console commands in this cheater's guide, allowing you to bend the realm of Valheim to your will.

It's worth noting that these codes won't work in multiplayer servers for the most part--they're single-player cheats only. That said, since Valheim allows you to take characters from one game world to another (along with all the stuff they're carrying), it's pretty easy to jump into a single-player game, spawn yourself a bunch of cool stuff, and then take it with you to a server with friends. If you're looking to build some ridiculous Viking fortresses and bases, this is a handy way to do it without hours of mining materials and cutting down trees.

The end is coming to Fortnite, and if you are an invested fan, there are some important details to take note of. Epic Games has penciled in March 16 as the official start date of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6.

The end of each season of Fortnite has always brought something big to the occasion. However, this time around, Epic Games is doing something different for the upcoming Season 6.

The mission can be played solo, so you do not have to wait for any of your friends to start the fun.

Watch Dogs Legion’s Co-Op Isn’t Enough To Bring Us Back To The Game

Fortnite Chapter 2 - Season 6 Kicks Off With Single-Player Experience

3 years 2 months ago

Following the arrival of Marvel's Galactus to the Apollo island, the Zero Point was exposed and damaged, which altered the island in multiple ways. Agent Jones' attempt to fix it summoned hunters across various realities (including Din Djarin from The Mandalorian) to the island. The Galactus threat may have been stopped by the Avengers, but the Zero Point is becoming less stable with each passing day, and now, Fortnite's Zero Crisis Finale is ready to begin in Chapter 2 - Season 6 next week.

To kick off Season 6, you play through a single-player conclusion of Agent Jones' mission in the Zero Crisis Finale. While we don't know much about what Season 6 has in store for us, Epic Games says it will have more details about the global premiere of the event, showcasing the most ambitious story cinematic in Fortnite to date. Epic Games also says the events of this event will shape reality as we know it, so expect fireworks.
