Please make good mousepads with wrist rests

2 years 10 months ago

Like many old people with a passion for PC gaming and a flair for foolish stunts, I have bad wrists. I can click these suckers at will, to the surprise and horror of everyone around me. While I've found a mousepad with a wrist rest can help my aching joints, it's hard to find a good one - and especially one suited for gaming. Please, won't someone make a good wrist rest mousepad? Won't someone think of the elderly?

'Hack 'N' Shoot ‘Em Up' Recompile Gets August Launch Window

2 years 10 months ago

Hacking Metroidvania Recompile will invade console and PC motherboards this August. The eye-catching indie game puts players in digital shoes of a sentient rogue code exploring the electrifying digital wasteland of a computer mainframe.

Gameplay consists of 3D platforming and third-person shooting, not to mention plenty of physics-based hacking. Exploration is non-linear with Metroidvania qualities, such as finding abilities or items to open new paths while also solving logic puzzles to overcome obstacles. We were impressed with Recompile when it first made noise last year, but if this is your first time catching wind of the game, you should check out its latest gameplay trailer to see what’s in store.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake appears in a hidden Epic Store product listing

2 years 10 months ago

I know a lot of us are still jealous of the shiny Final Fantasy 7 Remake that landed exclusively on the PS4 last year. Us PC folks have held out hope it would come our way even though Square Enix had nothing to say when FF7R's PS4 exclusivity ended in April this year. The new PS5 upgraded version called Intergrade just launched this month too, also without mention of a snazzy PC port to match. There's still no word. Not officially, anyway. There is a convincing new leak by way of a hidden Epic Games Store listing that specifically mentions the Final Fantasy 7 Remake though. Cloud saves save the day again!

12 Biggest No-Shows of E3 2021

2 years 10 months ago

Fable

Biggest No-Shows at E3 2021

e3 2021 no shows

A new Fable game from developer Playground Games got officially announced last summer, so it would’ve been nice to at least get a bit of an update on the progress of the game. Instead, it was one of the biggest no-shows of E3 2021. After seeing Playground Games unveil Forza Horizon 5, it became abundantly clear that their time was probably being spent elsewhere.

It makes complete sense, even though the lack of Fable at Xbox’s E3 event was disappointing for fans. At least the game got mentioned, and some old footage was shown in a little sizzle reel at the end of the stream. Fable was a no-show, but at least it wasn’t completely forgotten.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Orbx Giveaway – Win One of 10 Add-Ons of Your Choice [UPDATED]

2 years 10 months ago

Microsoft Flight Simulator has been out for six months, but the third-party industry is just getting started.

Orbx is a major player in the industry providing a Steam-like client with Orbx Central, creating great scenery, and playing host to the add-ons from many relevant developers including airports, scenery, aircraft, and utilities.

Today we team up with Orbx to share some of that love with a brand new giveaway.

By participating, you can win one of ten Microsoft Flight Simulator add-ons from Orbx’s growing catalog including airports, scenery, aircraft, and utilities from Orbx itself and from all of its partners like Gaya, Drzewiecki Design, and many more.

Each winner will be able to pick one Microsoft Flight Simulator add-on of their choice (for the PC version of the sim). You can find a full list on Orbx’ own website, and there is a lot to choose from.

The way to get involved is really, really easy. Actually, there are two ways.

Five (5) prizes will be randomly drawn among comments made starting today and until June 16 at 11:59 pm EST on all of our articles on Microsoft Flight Simulator. Reviews, news posts, interviews, and anything else related to the sim is fine. Basically, if “Microsoft Flight Simulator” is in the headline, comments on that article are eligible.

The more you comment, the better your chances. We want to hear your opinions and insight, and there is no better way for that to happen than sharing your comments with us.

An important caveat is that comments on this post are not eligible for the giveaway. Of course, you’re welcome to comment here, but in order to participate, you need to comment at least on one other article.

Sable's E3 demo made me fall more in love with its words than its art

2 years 10 months ago

Sable is one of the many hundreds of Steam Next Fest demos you can play at the moment, and cor, it's a real beauty. Sure, we've known for a while now that Shedworks' desert-roaming hover bike 'em up is stone-cold stunner (especially since much of its art style has been inspired by the equally gorgeous work of the artist Moebius), but seeing it in action is something else. I love gazing at the clearly defined rock strata around Sable's home; I love how the gentle day and night cycle bathes the world in cool blues and purples at dusk and dawn before roaring to life in bright, punchy primaries during the day; and woof, I love the gentle twangs of its lilting soundtrack.

But the thing that surprised me most during its hour-long demo was the way we got to hear Sable's inner thoughts as she chatted to her fellow camp mates. For whatever reason, I wasn't expecting this, and at times it almost felt like I was reading a book - and what a lovely book it was, too.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla used in Irish tourism campaign

2 years 10 months ago

Pottering around a Viking-era version of your home in Assassin's Creed Valhalla is an enormous amount of fun - as I discovered from my adventures in Gloucestershire - but could it also encourage others to visit your country? That's what Tourism Ireland is banking on, as the organisation has teamed up with Ubisoft to use Assassin's Creed Valhalla in a promotional campaign.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla's first expansion, Wrath of the Druids, brings Viking protagonist Eivor across the seas to embark on new adventures in Ireland. Locations such as Dublin, Benbulben, the Giant's Causeway and the Hill of Tara are all visitable in-game, and Tourism Ireland has collaborated with Ubisoft to create a comparison video showing the game versions and their real-life counterparts:

The campaign doesn't end there, however, as streamers in Britain, France, Germany, Spain and Scandinavia will help showcase Irish landscapes in Wrath of the Druids as part of the collaboration. This is the first time that Tourism Ireland has worked with gaming content creators.

Senran Kagura X Hyperdimension Neptunia Crossover Shows Waifus & Meditation Minigame in New Trailers

2 years 10 months ago

Today Compile Heart released two new trailers of the Senran Kagura X Hyperdimension Neptunia crossover Senran Nin Nin Ninja Taisen Neptunia: Shojo-Tachi no Kyoen.

The first trailer showcases story and characters, also providing a sample of voice acting for each of the playable girls.

On top of that, we also take a look at more secondary non-playing characters (some of whom will prove familiar to the fans of the series), and plenty of action gameplay.

The second video is a “meditation” minigame that prompts the player to help one of the ladies meditate while sitting on a giant peach. The goal is to maintain balance without falling, but whatever the result, the player will be rewarded by an alluring scene at the end.

You can check both videos below.

2 years 10 months ago

Fortnite and Marvel's marriage of money-making will soon continue with the arrival of Thanos himself to the game's item shop.

Thanos has appeared in Fortnite before, of course, as part of a previous Avengers mode where playing as the Mad Titan made you deliberately overpowered.

Three years on from that mode's appearance, however, you'll soon be able to obtain Thanos for keeps.

Today, during a livestream from Japan, Bandai Namco showcased lots of gameplay of its upcoming JRPG Tales of Arise.

A second clip was shown featuring some rather massive combos started after a just guard timed perfectly, prompting a counterattack.

Pithy opening that assumes my position as the imparter of information, but also implies my confidence that over a beer we could get on just fine. Declaration of the news story in one line, strongly suggesting—though absolutely not directly saying so—that I am first to break this story.

Destiny 2's long-awaited official toaster is disappointing

2 years 10 months ago

Hello again, it's me, the person who does not buy video games merch yet has strong opinions on it. This week, it's the official Destiny 2 toaster, an oft-requested actual bread-cooking device. The gun Jötunn is lovingly nicknamed 'the toaster' for its blocky shape and ability to pop out slices of fiery death, see, so for years fans and jokesters have asked Bungie for a real toaster which looks like it. But this official toaster does not look like Jötunn, and doesn't even look like a good toaster. Boooo.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla's mastery challenge mode adds fun trials and a teasing new storyline

2 years 10 months ago

This week's big Assassin's Creed Valhalla update added a new mode to the game, Mastery Challenge, which offers a series of repeatable maps to stomp and stealth your way through in return for fresh rewards.

We knew the gist of all this already - and we'll go into more detail below - but what has come as a nice surprise is the new narrative this mode folds into the game, including a tease for something else being added to Valhalla down the line.

The Mastery Challenge questline begins with a bang, as a meteor hits Eivor's Ravensthorpe. The impact reveals a door, apparently concealed within the cliffside all this time, and a mysterious woman, Hildiran, who's now investigating what's going on.

Hacking adventure Recompile releases this August

2 years 10 months ago

What if you were a tiny little semi-sentient program running through a mainframe? Well, that's basically what's going on in Recompile - a Metroidvania-inspired 3D platformer that's due to release later this year.

Recompile was originally planned for release in 2020, but as announced during Gamespot's Play for All showcase, it's now set to launch this August. Players take on the role of a computer virus that's trying to escape deletion. It's got snappy combat, generous amounts of mobility and plenty of hacking-themed puzzles - as I discovered when I tried it out at EGX Rezzed in 2019.

Oh, also there are some pretty spectacular visual effects going on, as you can see from the latest trailer:
