Juneteenth, once an obscure, informal holiday celebrating Black freedom, is now bigger than it’s ever been. It commemorates when the last enslaved people in Texas, the final Confederate state, were set free on June 19th, 1865. Today, on this year’s Juneteenth, countries around the world are reckoning with anti-Black…

Call of Duty: Warzone on PlayStation 4 received a surprise update this week to enable 120fps on PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility, but it can be tricky to actually make work.
Fans soon discovered that in order to get 120fps on the battle royale, you have to turn off HDR (high-dynamic-range imaging) on the PS5.
I had a chat with Rich from Digital Foundry and he verified this is the case. Disabling HDR is the only way to get Warzone working at 120fps on PS5.
E3 2021 is coming to a close, which means it’s time to take a look back at some of the best trailers we saw during the show.
You can always count on From Software to deliver some truly memorable trailers, and Elden Ring definitely didn’t disappoint. After going literal years without hearing anything concrete about the new high fantasy game, we got to see a brand new gameplay trailer of Elden Ring, and it looked pretty amazing.
The orchestral soundtrack blares into life, adding to the mysterious and fantasical vibes of the game, while also reminding you that you’re gonna have tons of frightening bosses to get through.

The 2020 Final Fantasy VII Remake upended fans’ expectations in almost every conceivable way; story beats were familiar but presented differently, new characters and ideas were introduced to make way for future development, and that trend continues with the new DLC Episode Intermission as well. Now, instead of introducing Yuffie in the open-world, Square’s decided to bring her to Midgar instead to try to flesh her out a little more. And yeah, it totally works.
Right from the get-go, Yuffie feels like such a welcome breath of fresh air especially after having spent so many hours with the moody Cloud Strife. The story setup is incredibly simple and straightforward: Yuffie and her ninja companion Sonon have arrived at Midgar to steal the ultimate materia from Shinra Headquarters.
To achieve their goal, they’ve decided to team up with Avalanche. Don’t confuse this Avalanche group with Barret, Tifa, and the rest, though; as explained in the Remake, Avalanche was split up into several factions, with Barret’s splinter cell being regarded as the most radical of them all. The folks that Yuffie and Sonon have allied with are a little more conservative in their methods, and would never do anything that could endanger the lives of all those living in the slums.
We do still get scenes with familiar faces like Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie, but they’ve been relegated as very minor characters for the most part; the focus here is on Yuffie, Sonon, and one or two of their new Avalanche allies.
It’s pretty tricky to keep on top of which last-gen games are planning to update themselves for your fancy modern consoles, which is why I tattoo each morsel of information on my face. Looking in the mirror first thing this morning, I noticed that it’s today when Metro Exodus’s major free upgrade arrives.

I know you're ready to put the Electronic Entertainment Expo to bed for a year. I am too. I'm looking forward to playing a video game this weekend, instead of watching trailers for things I can't download yet. I still haven't played Chicory yet, and all I've wanted to do over the last week is colour in pictures of cartoon dogs. But we can't move on just yet.

Elden Ring finally stepped out of the shadows with a proper trailer and several chunky interviews during E3 week, but one person we hadn't heard from on the subject was, of course, George R.R. Martin. The Game of Thrones author has been involved in some of the writing for Elden Ring, and now we've finally heard a little more about his contributions from the man himself.
Martin recently visited Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism (where he studied in the '70s) to receive an honorary doctorate, and during the visit spoke to local news station WWTW about his career... including Elden Ring. He didn't exactly provide any shocking revelations, but confirmed he'd mainly been involved in the early stages of development and creating the game's fantasy world.
"The game is called the Elden Ring and it's a sequel to a video game that came out a few years ago called Dark Souls," Martin said. "My work on it was actually done years ago. These games, they're like movies, they take a long time to develop.
Last night I hopped into Call Of Duty: Warzone Season 4 and had a brilliant time rattling off bullets in the back of an armoured truck. Pure bliss, it was. But alas, all good things come to an abrupt end, as they've been removed only a day into the new season. Apparently players found an exploit which let them use these trucks to turn invisible. Here we go again.
The event quest also features a cute musical easter egg upon successfully completing the mission.

Just when I thought I was out, Steam Next Fest pulls me back in. To loving video games, that is! Yes, once again Valve has seen fit to flood their digi-store with literally hundreds of free demos, all available for your perusal until the 22nd. That's a whole long weekend of free stuff to play, baby. But, as any Netflix browser knows, too much choice can be paralysing. I've gone through and played as many demos as possible and picked the best here, to give you somewhere to start.
When I first got a proper glimpse of Game Builder Garage last month, its premise was a promising one: here's a chance for a proper look at how Nintendo goes about the business of making its games, a chance to maybe comprehend some of the magic and wonder that's made its creations so beloved the world over. After a dozen hours or so with it, there's one lesson I've learned above all: making games is incredibly hard work.
Not that it ever feels that much like work, thankfully. If you've played Nintendo Labo - of which Game Builder Garage is a natural extension, building fulsomely off of the likes of Toy-Con Garage - you'll be familiar with that frisson of excitement when Nintendo brings its touch to something so everyday. Back then, it was flatpack instructions brought to life on the Switch's screen and transposed to cardboard - what if Nintendo would only turn its attention to Ikea manuals, we all asked - and now it's Nintendo delivering the most wholesome, open-armed and entertaining software tutorial I've ever come across.
And it is, first and foremost, a software tutorial. Game Builder Garage is cleaved neatly into two halves, and you'll be funnelled straight away into the first of these, with completion of the first of seven courses necessary before you can attempt the freestyle programming that makes up the second. These lessons are necessary, too, to get even a basic grasp of what's possible, as you're gently introduced to Game Builder Garage's very visual, very hands-on programming language.
To get ready for Nintendo’s E3 presentation, you might have poured yourself a beverage, grabbed a snack, and got comfy. Cosplayer Bonbon, it seems, donned a Varia Power Suit.

World of Warcraft Shadowlands' Chains of Domination update comes out on 29th June, Blizzard has announced.

Amazon Australia has revealed Bowser's Airship, the next big addition to Lego's Super Mario range (thanks, TheBrickFan).
Bowser's Airship is one of the largest Super Mario sets we've seen so far. Clocking in at over 14 inches, this 1152-piece addition provides one of the best-looking builds of the entire range.
There's no official launch date yet, and Amazon's product listing page has now been deleted. Still, we'd expect it to arrive in August alongside the upcoming Super Luigi Starter Kit and the third wave of blind bag add-ons announced officially earlier this week.
Call of Duty: Warzone Season 4 launched yesterday, and with it brought a new vehicle - and the return of an old exploit.
Season 4 added a new armored cargo truck to the game - itself a controversial addition due to how strong the vehicle is, particularly in solo battle royale. But it got a lot worse when it soon emerged the truck could be used to turn invisible.
To be fair to developer Raven, it moved quickly to pull the truck from the game, thus eradicating the invisibility glitch.
I've been interested in the grappling hooks and swords of Chinese fantasy battle royale Naraka: Bladepoint, and apparently I'm not the only one. The final open beta test has started ahead of August's launch, and it's presently the sixth-most played game on Steam, squeezing ahead of GTA 5 and Rust. Goodness me. Quite a few people up for parkouring around, flinging arrows and spells, and transforming into monsters, then. You could join 'em.
Southern Gothic always feels a bit voyeuristic to me, which is probably because it's actually American Southern Gothic, and I'm not American. It's a deep and personal genre, wedded closely to the specifics of a big, sparsely populated place. But it's also so universal: the surface is swampland, rust, Mississippi river, but the substance is pure humanity. History, power, morality. Fear and listlessness and creeping alienation. So: voyeuristic. A world of very personal suffering that I'm viewing from the outside.
Anyway, Norco. Norco is the first game from a team called Geography of Robots, published by Raw Fury, who've overseen things like Backbone, Bad North and the upcoming Sable. It is very much Southern Gothic, and also a bit magical realist, a bit dark fantasy, and so with that comes a bit of baggage. It's overwritten, in places, in the same way that Kentucky Route Zero or Disco Elysium could be, often meandering off into a verbose and abstract tangent that doesn't add much more than a little sprinkling of edge. It's also obscenely, outrageously pretty, in the way they could be too, and rich with symbolism, soaked with mystery, dripping in mood. I've played the first hour or two thanks to its new Steam demo and I love it.

Today Clouded Leopard Entertainment released the second trailer with English subtitles of Kadokawa Games’ strategy simulation JRPG Relayer.
This trailer focuses on explaining the backstory and setting of the game and on showing a glimpse of gameplay.
It’s narrated by Satomi Akesaka, who plays Terra, the protagonist of the game, alongside Miku Itou that plays Himiko and Moe Toyota, who plays Luna.
It’s worth keeping in mind that that while this trailer features the Japanese voice cast, the game will also come with an optional English voice track. The English cast has not been announced yet.

Cris Tales is probably one of my most highly anticipated indie game releases of this year, and everything we’ve seen of it so far just looks impressive. Modus Games has just released a short video showing of the game’s opening cinematic, and you can check it out for yourself down below:
Cris Tales follow the story of protagonist Crisbell, who has the ability to jump to different time periods, and make use of that ability even in battle. For instance, she can shift time forward so that her enemies age up, making them a little weaker. This ability also comes into play when exploring levels, allowing you to see the past, present, and future of a particular area.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“Cris Tales is a love letter to classic JRPGs created by Colombian developer Dreams Uncorporated where past, present and future are brought together on one screen.
Players can use Crisbell’s amazing ability to slip between time periods to both aid citizens across Crystallis’ kingdoms and perform surprise attacks on enemies. If Crisbell wants to save her magical world from the evil that threatens it, she must make use of her power to shape the past, present and future while gathering allies that will help her in her quest.”
The game is set to be released for PC and consoles on July 20.
