New Phasmophobia Update Adds New Ghost Types; Kinetic Games Hires New Artist & Programmer

2 years 10 months ago

Phasmophobia was the big indie horror hit of 2020, quickly skyrocketing its way to the top of the Steam charts and sitting there for a good long while. The game was also developed by just one person, Dknighter from the UK, who founded Kinetic Games.

A new update has just been pushed out for Phasmophobia, and alongside that, Dknighter has also announced the expansion of Kinetic Games as he’s brought on an experienced artist and programmer to come and help with development of the game. Dknighter explains that with how popular the game has been, and considering his plans for future content, it was finally time to bring in more help.

And of course, listed below are the patch notes for the latest update, which adds two new ghost types and other quality-of-life improvements:

  • Added a new ghost type Yokai.
  • Added a new ghost type Hantu.
  • Added a new daily challenge “Capture a 3 star ghost photo”.
  • Added a new daily challenge “Capture a Dirty Water photo”.
  • Added a way to reset corrupt save files. This is a very rare occurrence, if you get this please join our discord and ask for help.
  • Added a profanity filter for user and server names. Please report if your name is not offensive and is being caught by this.
  • Added a sell button in the item store that will give you back 50% of the price.
  • Added text to show the name of the level below the map in the truck.
  • Added a confirmation timer if you change your resolution.
  • Added a new small house map called Willow Street House. This map has no closets or lockers to hide inside and has been designed around hiding behind furniture.

There are also several other tweaks and fixes included in this update, which you can read about here. Phasmophobia is now available via Steam early access.

Biomutant’s Biggest Update Yet Increases Level Cap, Tweaks Loot System, & Adds Lock-On

2 years 10 months ago

When it launched, Biomutant clearly had tons of potential, but was dragged down by a series of little issues that compounded to create a less-than-pleasant gameplay experience. The narrator was too talkative, the combat felt broken at times, and even getting loot wasn’t as exciting as players were hoping.

That said, developing studio Experiment 101 has been hard at work at pushing out various patches and updates to improve the game even further. The latest patch for Biomutant is its biggest yet, and it brings about tons of major changes.

For starters, the level cap has been increased from 50 to 100. The loot system has also been tweaked so that players are less likely to receive duplicate items, and this should increase loot variety in the game. Biomutant also now has a scrap option, which allows players to clear their inventory of filler loot much quicker.

Finally, players can also now make use of an optional lock-on function in combat, which should come in pretty handy. You can check out the full patch notes here.

Biomutant is now available on PC and consoles.

Death’s Gambit: Afterlife Announced for Switch, Will Have New Weapons, Endings, Bosses, & More

2 years 10 months ago

Death’s Gambit was released for Steam and PS4 back in 2018, and it was billed as an action platformer game that took inspiration from games like Undertale and the Dark Souls series, as far as the narrative and gameplay mechanics were concerned. It had its fair share of flaws, but was still one of the most creative indie games we’d played that year. Serenity Forge and White Rabbit have just announced Death’s Gambit: Afterlife for Switch, which is an enhanced version of the game with tons of new additions and other tweaks.

You can check out the debut trailer for yourself down below:

Some of the changes and additions in Afterlife include:

  • A complete mechanical revamp, including fine-tuned encounters, improved movement and expanded crafting
  • Alternate endings to achieve as the story progresses
  • Over 30 weapons total, with new talents for each weapon
  • 6 new bosses to fight, on top of the original 14
  • A massively expanded new world to explore, adding 10 new levels to the original 11
  • A new map to navigate Siradon

There’s no set release date for Death’s Gambit: Afterlife just yet, but we’ll keep you updated as more info comes our way.

Sea Of Thieves' A Pirate's Life expansion does feature lots of things that aren't Johnny Depp

2 years 10 months ago

Bobbing onto our screens in 2018, Sea Of Thieves was perfectly timed to provide the jovial, ultimately unthreatening ambience of Pirates Of The Caribbean, just as that film series became a lot less fun due to the allegations against leading man Johnny Depp. How unfortunate, then, that 2021 should bring a massive Pirates Of The Caribbean crossover to the game, with Captain Jack Sparrow plastered all over it.

Sea Of Thieves' A Pirate's Life Expansion Is More Than Pirates Of The Caribbean Cosplay

2 years 10 months ago

Captain Jack Sparrow is joining your Sea of Thieves crew. That's either very good or very bad, depending on your point of view--from what we've seen of the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean tie-in expansion, A Pirate's Life, he seems like he's pretty fun to have around. On the other hand, he likes to get into the rum and he's a bit of a loose cannon.

Either way, Jack Sparrow represents a major shift in Sea of Thieves in its third year, and with A Pirate's Life, Rare's multiplayer live service game looks to be taking a big leap forward. As Rare showed in a presentation demonstrating what we can expect from the expansion, A Pirate's Life adds a huge amount of content that goes beyond just Pirates of the Caribbean-themed items and stories. It's adding a bunch of new characters, new enemies, and new places to explore.

Rare on Sea of Thieves' massive Pirates of the Caribbean update and getting crossovers right

2 years 10 months ago

One of the more leftfield surprises to come out of this year's E3 (although in hindsight, it's such a natural fit, it shouldn't have been much of a surprise at all), was the announcement that Captain Jack Sparrow would be soon making his way to the Sea of Thieves as part of a mammoth new Pirates of the Caribbean crossover story arc for the swashbuckling multiplayer adventure. And ahead of its arrival this Tuesday, 22nd June, we had chance to chat with Rare to find out more about its impressively ambitious free update.

A Pirate's Life, as Rare's new five-episode Tall Tales story arc is officially titled, plunges players into a fight for the future of the Sea of Thieves after Captain Jack (here played by Jared Butler, an actor with a long history of voicing the character in video games) successfully navigates the perilous fog known as the Devil's Shroud surrounding the Sea of Thieves with Davy Jones in tow.

The ensuing adventure dips liberally into the worlds of both crossover franchises, most notably for Sea of Thieves fans, giving players their first opportunity to some visit some key locations in the game's expansive lore - including the underwater Sunken Kingdom, home of the malevolent sirens, and the Sea of the Damned, a realm between life and death where the dreams and nightmares of pirates take on a physical reality.

Sea Of Thieves: A Pirate's Life Preview – The Day That Rare Finally Caught Captain Jack Sparrow

2 years 10 months ago

Rare surprised Sea of Thieves fans by announcing it had partnered up with Disney to bring the swashbuckling world of Pirates of the Caribbean into the game. While Rare had previously shied away from such crossovers, the move makes sense – and not just because both properties revolve around pirates. Sea of Thieves was always designed with the philosophy of giving players the freedom to forge their own paths and make a name for themselves on the high seas. That defines the pirate’s life, and that freedom is what Captain Jack Sparrow values even more than the shiniest trinket, making him the perfect fit for the adventure.

A Pirate’s Life launches June 22 as a free expansion that kicks off Season Three of Sea of Thieves. It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned player or a curious newcomer enticed by the idea of sailing alongside cinema’s most famous pirate. Rare says anyone can immediately jump into A Pirate’s Life, even describing it as a great starting point for newcomers. If you’re considering taking the plunge, Rare provided a deep dive into the expansion’s narrative premise, its large new areas filled with fearsome foes, and the movie-themed booty players can earn.

Marvel Future Revolution Gets New Trailer Showing Star-Lord’s Costumes

2 years 10 months ago

Marvel released another brand new trailer of the upcoming “AAA” open-world mobile game Marvel Future Revolution developed by Netmarble.

The trailer is, as usual, very brief, but it provides a look at one of the game’s most publicized features, which is character customization. Here we take a look at the costumes Star-Lord can wear and some of the color variations.

You can check it out below.

At the moment, there is no relese date for Marvel Future Revolution, but we know that it’s coming for iOS and android.

If you’re unfamiliar with the game (which wouldn’t be surprising considering the year of silence) it’s a mobile multiplayer open-world RPG for iOS and Android.

The story is about the “Convergence,” a multiverse catastrophe in which universes collide, which means that we’ll be able to play plenty of versions of beloved superheroes.

The players become members of Omega Flight based in New Stark City, which is the universe’s last line of defense. Basically, it’s a group of heroes that came together from multiple realities to defend the universe.

Square Enix says putting Outriders on Xbox Game Pass has "worked in its favour"

2 years 10 months ago

Square Enix says it is "pleasantly surprised" by the success of its new IP, Outriders, stating "the digital sales ratio for the title have been very high" and insisting that its "decision to make Outriders available with Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass as soon as the title launched also worked in [its] favour".

Xbox teased the shooter was coming to Xbox Game Pass just a couple of weeks before release, and swiftly became one of the service's most high-profile Game Pass offerings. Now, a few months on, Square Enix says that despite the "slight issues" with bugs and server instability, it has "gotten off to a good start as a new IP".

"In regards to the response to Outriders, while there were slight issues with bugs and the like on launch, we believe it has gotten off to a good start as a new IP," Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda told investors at a financial briefing back in May, the English translation of which was published today (thanks, VGC).
