Forza Horizon 5 Will Add an On-Screen Sign Language Interpreter

2 years 7 months ago

Forza Horizon 5 contains a ton of wonderful accessibility features to help make the game as inclusive as possible, and a post-launch update will add another great one - an on-screen sign language interpreter that will sign either American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) during the game's cinematics.

As detailed in an Xbox Wire blogpost and an accompanying video about Forza Horizon 5's accessibility features, the interpreter will appear in a picture-in-picture display near the bottom of the screen and either ASL or BSL can be chosen depending on the player's preference.

This is a great addition to Forza Horizon 5, a game that we gave a rare 10/10 to and said is "the result of a racing studio at the peak of its craft and the best open-world racing game available." It is also one of the few games to feature sign language in such a prominent way.

Bethesda Has Finally Revealed Skyrim Anniversary Edition's Price

2 years 7 months ago

Bethesda has finally revealed how much The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition will cost, alongside how much it will be to upgrade from Skyrim Special Edition on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

On digital storefronts, Skyrim Anniversary Edition will cost $49.99 / £47.99 on November 11, 2021. But, if you already own Skyrim Special Edition, the Anniversary Upgrade will instead cost $19.99 / £15.99.

In the brand new FAQ blogpost, Bethesda confirmed the pricepoint for yet another Skyrim re-release, something that fans have noted has been seemingly kept under wraps until now.

Both Skyrim Special Edition and Anniversary Edition are also getting free next-gen upgrades for PS5 Xbox Series X/S. All achievement progress is also set to transfer between Special and Anniversary Edition, but not if you upgrade the PS4 version of the game to the PS5 version.

Skyrim Anniversary Edition is set to include a host of new and existing Creation Club content for the game, from Morrowind armor, to quests involving Oblivion gates, new dungeons, and more.

Nintendo Happy With Upcoming Mario Film, More Movies Likely On The Way

2 years 7 months ago

Nintendo is reportedly happy with the upcoming CG Mario movie being made by Despicable Me and Minions studio Illumination, and according to Shigeru Miyamoto, more movies based on Nintendo properties could be on the way.

This news comes by way of Video Games Chronicle, which reported on the latest Q&A session section of Nintendo’s recent financial results briefing. In it, Miyamoto told investors that the upcoming Mario movie is basically done and that Nintendo is feeling very positive about it.

Don’t get too excited just yet, though – Nintendo doesn’t plan on releasing the movie early despite it being essentially done. It’s still planned for Holiday 2022. Miyamoto reportedly said that Nintendo really wants to meet fans’ expectations with this Mario movie and that as a result, it will use the extra time to continue polishing the film ahead of its release next year.

Elsewhere in Miyamoto’s discussions about the movie, he said that Nintendo is planning ot make more movies based on its other properties, citing a desire for people to experience said properties in a variety of ways (rather than just video games). He said Nintendo will make each movie one by one, though, so as not to have multiple in production, which could affect each’s quality.

Nintendo Promises to 'Improve and Expand' the Switch Online Service

2 years 7 months ago

Nintendo has said that it will continue to improve and expand on its Switch Online service as well as its recently released premium Expansion Pack – possibly in response to the poor reception to its pricing and recent additions.

As part of its latest Corporate Management Briefing, Nintendo has stated that it will "continue to improve and expand both Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack" in order to provide services that satisfy its fanbase.

The pledge to improve comes shortly after the company experienced a rocky start to the launch of its premium Expansion Pack subscription service. The service, which launched last month, adds a new membership tier to Nintendo Switch Online that gives players access to an expanding catalog of Nintendo 64 and Sega Mega Drive games, as well as paid DLC (currently in the form of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Happy Home Paradise pack).

Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Cooking System Is Fueling My Island Café Problem

2 years 7 months ago

No joke, I have no fewer than eight little cafes and restaurants on my island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Last fall, I buckled down and terraformed my entire island, filling up every spot with some sort of little tourist attraction that visitors could look at when they visited. I ended up with an outdoor classroom, a river walk, a hot springs area, a flower shop, a park, and eight eating spots.

It kinda just got out of hand, if I’m being honest. I had two beach cafes, a diner, a bakery/café, a seaside restaurant, a seaside café, a poolside VIP area that served desserts, and an oriental-style barbecue area. I’m proud of it, but also, having that many eating spots felt utterly pointless. There were only so many food-related furniture items I could put on display. I had to resort to using custom designs to make the food look different! The humanity!

But then everything changed when Nintendo attacked- I mean, released the cooking system with update 2.0.

On the surface, the new cooking and farming system seems pretty shallow. We already got a taste of what farming crops would be like with the Halloween event, where you just grow pumpkin starts and harvest them to craft furniture.

When it comes down to it, the cooking system in Animal Crossing: New Horizons boils down to farming for more materials so that you can craft more items to display. It’s not a game-changing mechanic by any means, but for the players who, like me, have an obsession with restaurants and cafés, it’s pretty much all we could’ve asked for.

Final Fantasy VII Battle Royale Gets November Release Date, Opening Cinematic Revealed

2 years 7 months ago

Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, a mobile battle royale set in Midgar, will be released this month.

Square Enix had previously stated The First Soldier would be released in November, as reported by IGN, but thanks to the new opening cinematic that debuted on YouTube today, we know the exact release date: November 17. That’s less than two weeks away and what better way to get excited about the dubs you’ll hopefully be getting in the battle royale than by watching the new opening movie for The First Soldier.

Click here to watch embedded media

Set 30 years before the events of Final Fantasy VII, The First Soldier is about, well, the first soldiers that the Shinra electric Company began using on the outskirt battlefields of Midgar. As expected, the opening movie is completely CG and it doesn’t really feature anything to do with the actual battle royale aspect of The First Soldier, save for the last few seconds that show some characters jumping out of a helicopter in a very battle royale fashion.

Nintendo Is Still Discussing What Its Next Console After the Switch Might Be

2 years 7 months ago

Nintendo will seemingly be sticking with the Switch for several years yet, with internal discussions for a next-generation console still taking place around a release window, and even what its concept will be.

As you'd expect, Nintendo does plan to one day replace the Switch with a new gaming system, with the company's latest financial presentation making clear that new hardware was part of its wider plans to expand the business (alongside expanding IP, and adding services to the Nintendo Account system). However, the presentation only gave a date of '20XX' for that hardware's release.

During a financial results Q&A – as attended, translated, and reported by analyst David Gibson – Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa was asked what he could say about the next-gen device. Furukawa was clear that he could say very little, and it seems even what the next console will be is still up for debate within the company.

"On next gen, we are not saying right now," Furukawa said, "we are still going through internal discussion on concept, timing etc and discussing everything."

However, Furukawa did say that the Switch remains in the "middle phase" of its lifecycle, meaning we have several more years at least before Nintendo considers replacing it. In May 2020, Furukawa said the Switch was "barely" halfway through its life, so it may be that its huge recent success has seen Nintendo extend how long it could support the hybrid hardware.

5 Features We Wish Made It Into Animal Crossing New Horizon’s Final Update

2 years 7 months ago

With the release of Animal Crossing New Horizons’ 2.0 update this week (and its Happy Home Paradise DLC), Nintendo has marked the end of the game’s major update support. The game will no longer receive updates that’ll bring fresh and exciting new gameplay experiences and features to your getaway island. This is certainly a sad time, especially given the fact there are still a bunch of little features and QoL improvements that would help take the game to the next level. In fact, I’m so gutted that some of these never came to fruition that I thought I’d write about them. Here are 5 features we wish had made it into New Horizons’ final update.

Konami’s eFootball 2022 1.0 Launch Delayed To 2022

2 years 7 months ago

Konami’s eFootball 1.0 launch has been delayed to next year, and the mobile versions of it have seemingly been delayed indefinitely.

This news comes from a new blog post from Konami that details what’s going on with this iteration of eFootball. The team needs more time to develop the 1.0 update and squash bugs currently present in the current “demo” version of the game, which is what Konami refers to it at this point in time, as noted by IGN

“We would like to inform you that the v1.0.0 update for eFootball 2022, scheduled to be released on November 11, 2021, has been postponed until Spring 2022,” the blog post reads. “Also, we would like to announce the cancellation and automatic refunds of eFootball 2022 Premium Player Pack, which includes items that can only be used in-game after the v1.0.0 update.”

Konami says it has been working diligently towards distributing an update that will bring new content to the game, including a mode new to the series where players can “strengthen and play with an original team” and the mobile versions to the market. However, those mobile versions have seemingly been delayed indefinitely.

The Update That Makes eFootball a Full Game Has Been Delayed to 2022

2 years 7 months ago

Konami has delayed the 1.0.0 update for eFootball from November 10 until Spring 2022 – effectively pushing back the launch of the full version of the game.

Announced on the eFootball website, the developer says that it "concluded that more time is needed to deliver the product in the quality that will meet the expectations of our users and have decided to postpone the delivery."

The current version of eFootball has been described by Konami as "basically a demo", with 1.0.0 set to add the game's Creative Teams mode, multiple new ways to play (including normal online matches), new player types, microtransactions and more. That update was also set to add mobile versions of the game, but Konami now says it will "announce details of further updates and schedule for the mobile version later."

Effectively, the launch of the intended, full version of eFootball has been pushed back – another difficult moment in what has been a truly disastrous launch.

Today's announcement also saw Konami cancel pre-orders for its Premium Player Pack, a £32.99/$39.99 payment that couldn't be used until the 1.0.0 patch was released. All players who had already paid for the pre-order will be refunded automatically, but Konami says it "may take some time to be completed." Players who did pre-order will also have to delete and reinstall the game.
