Boba Fett Is Coming To Fortnite Next Month

2 years 5 months ago

The famed bounty hunter Boba Fett is coming to Fortnite in just a little over a month.

This news comes by way of the official Fortnite Twitter account, which announced the news as part of Disney Plus Day last week. Perhaps an early Christmas present for those that celebrate the holiday, Boba Fett will be added to Fortnite (presumably as a purchasable skin in the Item Shop) on December 24.

It’s excellent timing, too, because Disney’s upcoming Disney Plus show about the bounty hunter, The Book of Boba Fett, launches five days later on December 29.

Rockstar’s new remastered trilogy of Grand Theft Auto III, San Andreas, and Vice City, collectively known as Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, is playable once more on PC. It’s also available for purchase again.

This comes after the PC version of the trilogy was unplayable and not available for purchase beginning November 12 as Rockstar’s launcher, which must be used to play the trilogy on PC, went offline. The launcher (and subsequent ability to play the game and purchase it on PC) was brought back online yesterday.

Rockstar announced this by way of a tweet yesterday and, in the same tweet, the company says it sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience and that it is “working to improve and update overall performance as we move forward.”

Phil Spencer Talks Halo Infinite's Botched Original Reveal: 'We Should Have Been Honest with Ourselves'

2 years 5 months ago

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has discussed his regret around the original announcement of Halo Infinite as an Xbox Series X/S launch game, saying that his team should have been honest with itself about whether the game was ready to show off and release.

Speaking to British GQ, Spencer looked back the original gameplay reveal of Halo Infinite, which was famously shown off and delayed shortly afterwards: “I don’t like how we did it. I don’t like that we showed the game, talked about it launching at the launch of the consoles. And then within a month we had moved it.”

Spencer added that the decision to delay Halo Infinite just a few months before its intended launch wasn't an attempt to fool anyone: “We should have known before and just been honest with ourselves. We were there not out of deception, but more out of... hope. And I don't think hope is a great development strategy.”

The delay has lasted more than a year, but early signs point to that having been a worthwhile wait. After a campaign hands-on, we said that "most of our concerns about Master Chief’s long-awaited spiritual reboot melted away." Meanwhile, a technical preview of the multiplayer mode left us very enthused.

The Elder Scrolls 6 All But Confirmed to Be an Xbox Exclusive

2 years 5 months ago

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has all but confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI will be an Xbox console exclusive.

In an interview with British GQ, Spencer said that he sees the sequel to Skyrim as a similar case to fellow Bethesda title Starfield, which was confirmed for Xbox Series X/S and PC earlier this year.

At least in part, his reasoning seems to come down to what the Xbox ecosystem can offer its exclusives, including Cloud Gaming, Xbox Live services, and more:

“It’s not about punishing any other platform, like I fundamentally believe all of the platforms can continue to grow,” Spencer told GQ. “But in order to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full complete package of what we have. And that would be true when I think about Elder Scrolls VI. That would be true when I think about any of our franchises.”

Ever since Xbox bought Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media, The Elder Scrolls 6's position as a possible exclusive has been a topic of debate. As arguably Bethesda's biggest franchise, there's been much made of whether Xbox would help or hinder itself by allowing the next Elder Scrolls game to be released on competing platforms.

Mafia 3 Definitive Edition in first-person VR is a R.E.A.L. trip

2 years 5 months ago

Big budget VR releases may have been few and far between recently, but here in VR Corner, I've been living the dream thanks to the wonderful work of talented modders such as KITT and Praydog.

These utter champs have been putting AAA software houses to shame by showing us just how good certain flat releases could look, if only their developers took a bit of extra time to add VR modes to their games.

The Eurogamer Podcast: Behind the push for better accessibility in games

2 years 5 months ago

The tide of accessibility in games is turning. Ground-breaking releases like The Last of Us Part 2, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Forza Horizon 5, recently, show us what can be accomplished when you think about accessibility in the right way. They show us that by consulting the right people and by factoring accessibility deep into the foundations of your game, you can invite and enable more people to enjoy it than ever before.

It's tempting to think this just happened, that game developers woke up one day and decided accessibility was something they needed to improve. But of course they didn't. Behind the realisation was a push. A push from a community who needed better access to the entertainment and escapism games provide.

Battlefield 2042's opening weekend has been a disaster

2 years 5 months ago

Battlefield is used to a bit of chaos - it's at the series' core, after all, with manic moments in its sandbox what makes it stand out from other shooters - but the disarray of Battlefield 2042's first weekend in the wilds has been hugely frustrating. Since Battlefield 2042 went live on Friday, I've endured hard crashes, server problems and whole nights where the whole thing is simply unplayable. This is another Battlefield that's launching in a sorry state, and it's up there with Battlefield 4's infamously sorry start. From my own experience on Xbox Series X, it's considerably worse.

A lot of that frustration stems from setting aside Friday night to get stuck into DICE's new shooter only to spend the whole evening butting up against a data persistent error that was, shall we say, persistent - across a whole night it was impossible to get into a single match of the All-Out Warfare that's the core of this new Battlefield experience, and only the classic matches and rulesets of Portal offered any joy.

The Ramp lands on its perfect platform

2 years 5 months ago

The Ramp, the tiny toylike skateboarding sim that Malindy wrote about so beautifully a few months back, may be the most gorgeous game of 2021. Not only does it have a truly stellar commitment to the colour yoke, its patchy concrete and sun-stained woods form shapes that are enduringly lovely to look at. An empty swimming pool here becomes a perfect place for pulling off jumps and grinds, but it's also a sort of inverted Henry Moore sculpture. Add in the perfect sound effects - the grainy spin of wheels, the clack of a board connecting with a hard surface - and you have something truly special.

Now The Ramp has made the move from PC to iOS, and I'm tempted to say this is the most perfect version of the game. The simple controls - two buttons and a slider - means that the game furniture doesn't have to get in the way too much, and there's also something great about playing a game so transfixed by movement on a touchscreen. It's weird that there's no haptic feedback - at least I don't think there is. It's hard to tell because I seem to feel the sounds and the animations through my fingers here. The Ramp casts a spell.

Battlefield 2042 Skin Is Being Renamed After It's Discovered to Have a Link to the Russo-Ukrainian War

2 years 5 months ago

A skin in Battlefield 2042 is being renamed after it was discovered to have a link to the Russo-Ukrainian War.

Now that Battlefield 2042 is in early access, many players are quickly going through everything the game has to offer to see what they can unlock and earn as they play. During their search, certain players have found that Russian specialist Pyotr "Boris" Gukovsky has an Epic skin called "Little Green Man."

This upset many, including @Waggle_ua, who asked Battlefield 2042 developer DICE, "are you ok with jokingly putting the Russian terrorists that occupied part of my country?"

New World Devs Talk Server Merges, Exploits & More

2 years 5 months ago

Saying that New World has been a bit of a hot mess since launch would be an understatement. The development team has had to deal with gold exploits, server transfers, and a general sense of bugginess within the game itself. With the latest dev blog, however, the team seems to be committed to addressing all of the problems currently in the game.

First off, New World is still slowly recovering from the economic meltdown that came with the latest gold duplication exploit. The exploit resulted in the devs shutting down the economy entirely, with no way to pay taxes or sell and buy items at the trading post. As a result, town upgrades came to a halt, especially as wars and invasions continued.

Since then, the economy has slowly bounced back, and the team is looking towards other features and issues. One of the big headliners here is server merges, where low population servers might come together to form a larger one as the player base slowly dwindles from its launch numbers.

Amazon is quick to point out that they still need to do extensive testing on this, but it’s definitely a promising sign for the longevity of the game and its dedicated player base.

Other issues were also touched upon, such as war declaration issues, how the luck stat is calculated, and whether there will be incentives for players to join less dominant factions. You can check out the full blog post here.

New World is now available on PC.

Battlefield 2042 Players Joining XP Farm Servers Are Quickly Discovering That They Are the Prey

2 years 5 months ago

Battlefield 2042 players are using Battlefield Portal to join XP farms in hopes to rack up experience to unlock items in-game. Unfortunately, many are quickly discovering that these servers are traps and that they are the ones being hunted.

Battlefield Portal is a new way for players to create their own multiplayer experiences by mixing and matching elements from Battlefield 2042, Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3. This means players can create knives versus defibrillator battles, pit one soldier against 64, and much more.

However, as reported by PC Gamer, many early players are creating XP farming servers that are basically a small human team fighting against a larger team of bots that have little health and no guns. What makes this a problem in Battlefield 2042 is that players who join one of these servers after the smaller human team is full are thrown onto the bot team to be slaughtered.

While this would cause many to instantly quit, PC Gamer's Tyler Wilde noted that there are certain players who are attempting to defeat the odds and rise up against their attackers.

"What's really funny is that not everyone leaves after discovering that only a handful of players in the server are XP farming and they aren't one of them," Wilde wrote. "I've stuck around and watched players desperately run at their tormentors with knives over and over.

Assassin's Creed Narrative Director Darby McDevitt Rejoins Ubisoft Ahead of Assassin's Creed Infinity

2 years 5 months ago

Darby McDevitt, who was the lead writer on such Assassin's Creed games as Valhalla, Black Flag, and Revelations, has returned to Ubisoft after leaving the company seven months ago to potentially work on Assassin's Creed Infinity.

As reported by VGC, McDevitt left the company in March 2021 to join iLLOGIKA as their narrative director and was working on the A Quiet Place game, which is set to be released in 2022.

It is yet unclear if his work was finished on the game or if he left before it was completed. Either way, he is back at Ubisoft to work on Assassin's Creed once more.

"Yes, I have returned to Ubisoft! As I pondered my career over the past year, I focused on my desire to explore new ideas and unknown frontiers," McDevitt said in a statement to VGC. “Much to my delight, this is reflected in my return to Ubisoft to work on AC. I’m excited to continue my journey. Stay tuned!”

While he didn't specifically mention it, there is a good chance he will be one of the key figures in bringing Assassin's Creed Infinity to life. Announced earlier this year, Assassin's Creed Infinity is a "cross-studio, collaborative" project between Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec.
