GTA V and Online now boast resolutions up to 4K, HDR and ray tracing, improved textures and draw distances, and up to 60 frames per second gameplay. The PS5 version also features 3D audio and DualSense haptic feedback. Here's a visual example of what to expect in this trailer from last year's PlayStation Showcase.

Resident Evil 4 Creator Hopes the Rumored Remake Improves His Story

2 years 3 months ago

Resident Evil 4 has long been rumored to be getting a remake, and the original game’s creator wants to see it improve on his story, which he says he was forced to write in just three weeks..

During an interview with VG242, Shinji Mikami said that “fans will most likely want [a remake], and so that’s a good thing.”

“It would be great if Capcom could do a great job and make the story better,” he added, “and put out a good product.”

Mikami – who created the Resident Evil series, directed and wrote Resident Evil 4, and left Capcom in 2007 – revealed that he wrote the Resident Evil 4 story in just three weeks. According to the former Capcom director, this was out of necessity more than anything. It seems he's less happy with that narrative than the game itself.

The Resident Evil 4 remake has been rumored for some time, with leaked documents reportedly from Capcom suggesting a release date was at one point planned for sometime later this year, in Q4 (October-December).

Megahouse is continuing its MegaHobby Plus 2022 Winter reveals, and among them are new Persona 5 Royal figures. Two are in the works. Each one isn’t far along in development, however. One is a figure of Haru “Noir” Okumura as she appears in Persona 5 Royal, while the other recreates the Persona Loki.

Editor's Note: The Loki figure art will be a spoiler for people who didn't play the game.

The Haru figure is a part of the Lucrea line. She also doesn’t appear alone. Morgana shows up as well. He’s on the base in his van form. A concept model for it also shows she will hold her grenade launcher.

Aegislash is the Next Pokemon Unite Playable Character

The next Pokemon Unite character will debut next week. The Pokemon Company International and Timi Studio revealed another ghost-type is on the way. Though actually, it is a ghost and steel type. Aegislash will show up in Pokemon Unite on February 10, 2022.

Aegislash is a unique sort of Pokemon. In the mainline series, it is known for being able to shift its form. So say it would use Iron Defense. It would then shift into the Shield Forme to prioritize defense. But any attack move would use Blade Forme.

The initial Pokemon Unite trailer for the character suggests this will carry over into this game. In the footage, both Blade and Shield Formes appear when certain moves are used. The announcement also confirmed the character will be an “All-Rounder” type that can work in offensive and defensive situations.

Work on a new Grand Theft Auto "is well underway", Rockstar say

2 years 3 months ago

Eight years after the launch of Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar Games have finally confirmed yes, they really are making a new GTA. For eight years they've focused on adding new content to the MMO-y GTA Online mode, which seems a licence to print money by selling in-game cash for real cash. This has made some fans ornery, wondering if they'll just keep on plugging away at GTAO forever, especially with GTAV coming to next-gen consoles this year. But no, really, Rockstar say they really have been making a new one.

GTA 5 and GTA Online: PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Versions Get March Release Date

2 years 3 months ago

GTA 5 and GTA Online will be released as upgraded, native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions on March 15.

After a delay last year, Rockstar has confirmed that the new-gen editions will arrive soon, bringing "new graphics modes with up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, texture and draw distance upgrades, HDR options and ray-tracing".

Rockstar also promises that the games will take advantage of new console tech, offering "faster loading times, immersive 3D audio, platform-specific features like advanced haptic feedback, and much more."

Players will be able to perform a "one-time migration" of their story mode progress and GTA Online characters from PS4 and Xbox One to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

It's not clear whether there will be a free or paid upgrade path from last-gen games, nor whether save migration can be performed cross-platform, or has to stay within a console family. We've contacted Rockstar for comment.

As previously announced, GTA Online will also be released as a standalone game, without the need to purchase GTA 5. It will be free for three months after launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but Rockstar has not announced a price after that date.

GTA Online itself will also be add new onboarding features when it comes to the new console generation. Players will be able to skip the GTA 5 story prologue to enter (presumably because Online no longer requires a purchase of 5), and a new Career Builder feature is being added.

Rockstar Confirms Next GTA Game Is in Active Development; Release Date Set for GTA V on PS5 & Xbox Series X|S

2 years 3 months ago

For what feels like a decade now *checks calendar* OK literally almost a decade as GTA V was released back in 2013, rumors and speculation has swirled about GTA VI. Today, Rockstar confirmed that active development on the next GTA game is underway.

No details were given about the game, they never said the words GTA VI, nor did they confirm how long the game has been in development. But, all that said, Rockstar is taking the big step of at least acknowledging the existence of a new GTA game, squashing any beliefs that there would never be another new GTA game and that GTA Online through GTA V was the future.

Rockstar continues on and adds that they will keep fans updated via their newswire. That’s pretty much all we’re getting on the “GTA VI” front for now it seems, but fans that have been begging for new GTA game news at least are getting a morsel of information today finally.

Demon Slayer’s Mitsuri Will Appear as Pop Up Parade Figure

2 years 3 months ago

mitsuri demon slayer figure

Good Smile Company opened pre-orders for a Pop Up Parade figure of Mitsuri Kanroji from Demon Slayer just in time for Valentine's Day. Pre-orders will close on March 3, 2022. For Japanese buyers, she will cost ¥3,900 and release within June 2022. Customers in North America can pre-order the figure for $38.99, and she'll ship out in August 2022.

The Demon Slayer Mitsuri figure stands at around 16 centimeters in height. This makes her slightly shorter than the normal 17 to 18 centimeters, but it shouldn't be noticeable. Despite her alert expression, she stands in a rather relaxed pose. You can also see her Nichirin Sword, though she is not holding it. As this is a Pop Up Parade figure, you cannot pose or move her in any way.

Here are some more pictures of the Mitsuri figure:

Mitsuri is one of the Hashira and the master of Love Breathing techniques. She appeared briefly at the end of Demon Slayer season 1, showing her shy but jovial demeanor. She does not fight in the show, and she does not appear as a playable character in Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles.

The Last Bastion's strange combat mixes up FTL-ish plate spinning

2 years 3 months ago

It's not that easy, you know, hating everything. Deckbuilders are bad, I repeat, while enjoying one against my will. D&D can go to hell, I screech, in between weekly sessions. Corporate saturation crushes better games, I insist, alt-tabbing out of Vermintide.

This week it's the FTL-inspired The Last Bastion that's making things difficult. You're the leader of a defeated army regiment, retreating across a series of regions to a stronghold where your king plans to make a last stand. It's sort of roguelike, with a hint of something like Reigns in balancing your forces and reputation, with light interactive fiction parts. I'm a little bit annoyed that I like it.

After years of rumours and reports, Rockstar has confirmed it's working on a new Grand Theft Auto game, and said that it's "well underway".

In a new press release, a Rockstar spokesperson wrote:

"With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. Ghostwire Tokyo’s Side Missions Bring Its Supernatural Setting to Life (Preview)

2 years 3 months ago

Ever since Ghostwire: Tokyo was revealed back at E3 2019, I’ve been dying to know more about it. The setting, music, and overall presentation felt like a spiritual horror anime brought to life in the form of a video game, which immediately had me on the edge of my seat.

Combine its ambiance with the fact that it’s being developed by Tango Gameworks, creators of renowned horror series The Evil Within, and it is easy to understand why I’ve been eager to see more content. Luckily, I was able to attend a preview event for the game a few weeks ago, which showed off all of the supernatural fun Ghostwire: Tokyo will have to offer.

This unique demo for Ghostwire: Tokyo starts off with a bit of backstory, as it detailed that the game’s protagonist, Akito, has fused with the spirit of an experienced ghost hunter, KK, who got killed. Together, Akito and KK have to use spiritual powers to defeat various enemies, called Visitors, so that they can keep the antagonist from hurting Akito’s sister and save Tokyo.

After the backstory, the demo picks up very early on in Ghostwire: Tokyo, with Akito openly exploring the city while KK describes the situation and the power he now wields. Combat occurs almost immediately, with the protagonist firing finger-gun rays of energy at Slender Man-looking enemies with umbrellas.

Preview: Ghostwire: Tokyo Gameplay Loop Involves Shrines and Spirits

Preview: Ghostwire: Tokyo’s Gameplay Loop Involves Shrines and Spirits

Ghostwire: Tokyo is going to be a game that dips into two worlds. It is grounded in reality, set in Shibuya. However, yokai and ominous characters from Japanese folklore lurk around every corner. An ominous person named Hannya lets chaos loose on the city. Fog turns people into spirits. Gates open. An exorcist that could have helped deal with it all is killed, but bound to a young man. More importantly, a recent hands-off preview event offered enlightening details about how Ghostwire: Tokyo’s gameplay works.

Things began quite early in the game. It hasn’t been long since Hannya attacked the city. Akito fused with KK, an exorcist who described himself as “one of the country’s guard dogs who ran with a pack of strays.” This is represented visually as a sort of black fog over Akito’s right eye. (It also means that, in certain situations, you can leave certain actions to KK instead of handling it yourself.) Things began with the “duo” heading to Yugenzaka to start handling the city’s issues.

Ghostwire: Tokyo - The First Preview

2 years 3 months ago

There is absolutely no mistaking where Ghostwire: Tokyo – which just confirmed a March 25 release date – takes place. LED billboards beam down from the tightly packed skyscrapers. Torii gates, sheathed by leafy trees, pockmark the urban sprawl. A convenience store beckons to the player on every street corner, offering a bright jingle and a catalog of processed sweets. At last, after a decade spent in American suburbia with The Evil Within franchise, Tango Gameworks is returning to their beloved homefront. After watching a 20 minute gameplay demo of Ghostwire: Tokyo at a recent preview event, I don't think the megacity has ever been rendered more accurately… you know, save for the marauding evil spirits and the psychedelic geysers of dark energy. In Tango’s vision, the Japanese capital has gone to hell, but at least you can still pick up some plastic-wrapped onigiri before your next fight.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is looking a little creepy, very weird, and all rad

2 years 3 months ago

Ghostwire: Tokyo is an upcoming action-adventure game from Tango Gameworks (aka the folks behind The Evil Within), which means it has ghosts and ghost-adjacent monsters in it. Last night Bethesda showed off a bit more of the game with a streamed showcase, with a ten minute breakdown of the game in action. I, however, was privy to a hands-off presentation that comprised a whole half an hour of Ghostwire Tokyo being played. What luxury!

It reminded me much less of The Evil Within than I expected. It has a lot of horror elements, don't get me wrong, but Ghostwire: Tokyo is much more of an action game using the language of horror to convey its themes than the other way around. Rather than spending most of your time on the back foot, creeping around in the hope you can get past a lumbering ball of dead lady limbs with most of your health intact, time in Ghostwire: Tokyo is more likely spent one-shotting headless demon schoolgirls with a bow and arrow. The general vibe, if not the specifics, reminded me a lot of classic, thundering 90s and 00s action films like Blade. So, in other words, Ghostwire: Tokyo looks rad as hell. Even better, it's also unashamedly strange.

Dying Light 2 PC is a graphics juggernaut that powers past the consoles

2 years 3 months ago

Dying Light 2 is a true graphics juggernaut that shines brightest on PC. Yes, it's a cross-gen title for sure, but one where Techland's C-Engine allows for scalability well beyond the limitations of the last-gen machines - and perhaps even their current-gen alternatives too. That's where high-end PC hardware comes to the fore, where Dying Light 2 deploys a range of hardware accelerated ray tracing features that radically transform the game, with only a small, limited sub-set of RT features ending up in the PS5 and Series X versions. Yes, you can play this game and get a good experience on consoles but the bottom line is this: the PC version goes much, much further.

Whether you're using an RT-enabled card or not, I've put together a series of optimised settings recommendations, but before we dig into this, it's important to put the console versions into context with the PC offering. Typically, console renditions of any given game use a grab-bag of varying PC-equivalent settings across the board - the developer's own optimised setting selection.

Steam client beta adds Steam Deck-friendly install size and cloud sync indicators

2 years 3 months ago

If you’re opted into Valve’s Steam client beta, you may have noticed a couple of small but potentially very helpful UI updates that rolled out in the past few hours. Changes that are available on desktop but could be even more helpful, methinks, on the upcoming Steam Deck.

The first appears on the Library page of games you own, but haven’t installed yet: a new “Space required” string that lists how much hard drive or SSD space it will need. As it stands on the main Steam client, you can’t normally see this info without clicking the Install button, so that’s a click saved whenever you’re trying to find out if a new game (or nostalgic re-install) will fit onto stuffed storage.

Dying Light 2 PC Player Count Nearly Four Times More Than Dying Light’s All-Time Peak

2 years 3 months ago

Dying Light 2 Stay Human Techland Launch Player Count

Dying Light 2 is finally out and it seems the latest zombie parkour game from Techland is doing really well.

If Steam numbers are anything to go off of, Dying Light 2 is easily Techland’s most successful game. In fact, its all-time peak is nearly four times larger than Dying Light’s all-time peak. Mind you, Dying Light has been out since 2015 and Dying Light 2 has been out for essentially 24 hours. That it’s already surpassed the original game with such massive numbers is quite the feat, as noted by games analyst Benji-Sales on Twitter

Click here to watch embedded media

More specifically, Dying Light 2’s all-time peak at the moment is 177,222 players, according to Steam Charts. Dying Light’s all-time peak is 45,876. In fact, Dying Light 2 has already surpassed last year’s big horror release, Resident Evil Village, which has an all-time peak of 106,631.
