Deadly Premonition 2 PC Version Released

1 year 10 months ago

Deadly Premonition 2 PC Version Available

Among the not-E3/Summer Game Fest 2022 announcements was the reveal of a Deadly Premonition 2 PC port. The game is now immediately available. It is $39.99 on Steam. However, a 30% launch discount is in effect until June 18, 2022. That brings the price down to $27.99. Previously, the Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro was a Nintendo Switch exclusive.

As with the first game, Deadly Premonition 2 follows agent Francis Zach Morgan as he investigates a murder in Le Carre, Louisiana. As with the original game, things aren’t exactly straightforward. There are supernatural elements that come into play as he attempts to find out what led to the murder of a teenager and learns more of the town’s secrets.

Spooky cyberpunk mystery Psychroma looks like Detention meets Observer

1 year 10 months ago

One of the most intriguing new announcements at today's Future Of Play event had to be Psychroma, a cyberpunk horror adventure game in the works by indie developer/publisher Rocket Adrift Games. The devs describe their game as a narrative-driven side-scroller where you play as a digital medium. Imagine something halfway between Observer and Detention, then, and you'll be on the right lines.

The trailer harks back to the point-and-click mysteries beloved of my misspent youth, which really fits in with Psychroma's whole retro futuristic vibe. It's got that clever pixel art style that looks exactly how you remember golden age adventure games looking in the '90s, which of course means that it's much, much more polished and modern than those games ever were.

Bramble: The Mountain King Is Striking In New Trailer

1 year 10 months ago

Today’s Future Games Show gave us a new look at Bramble: The Mountain King, a visually arresting upcoming game from Dimfrost Studio. Players control a young protagonist named Olle as he as he explores a world of misty Nordic fairy tales in a forbidding wilderness, and the strange and deadly creatures that crop up along the way. His journey is motivated by a hope to rescues his lost sister.

The studio is aiming to offer a compelling juxtaposition of beautiful natural environments and sudden, horrifying moments of danger – all reflected in high-quality visuals. That goal is clearly presented in the game’s footage, which has an attractive and lush art style that immediately captures the mood.

The studio describes a focus on “David vs. Goliath” bosses as you explore nature. As an illustration of the concept, the new trailer discusses the strange creature called the Näcken, perhaps inspired by the myth of the Nykr. In the game, the Näcken plays its magical violin from its watery home, and lures people to their deaths by drowning in the lake. He was once a normal man who was terribly bullied by those around him, who eventually snapped and killed everyone close to him – including the girl that he loved.

Based on the description explored in the trailer, it’s clear that Dimfrost is interested in exploring the backstories and foundational elements of each monster’s narratives as part of the unfolding game. The Näcken is just one of many strange creatures that players encounter in the game.

New Palworld Trailer Shows More Pokemon-Esque Creatures With Guns

1 year 10 months ago

A new trailer for Palworld, the multiplayer, open-world survival crafting game featuring cute (and useful creatures) called pals, was shown during the Future Games Show stream. The planned release date is sometime later this year in 2022.

Developed by Pocket Pair, Palworld is like a Valheim version of Pokemon (mixed with some Stardew Valley vibes). You can apparently enlist your pals to help with transportation, agriculture, and manufacturing. And from the teaser images, it looks like you can build whatever you want: a house, or as the game's Steam page says, a pyramid or space ship.

In the new trailer, Wooloo-esque pals can be seen holding machine guns and cutely shooting at what I can only guess, are your enemies? There's also a dramatic scene where these apparent enemies can hold you at gunpoint in some unknown scenario. Rather dramatically, you can also launch a penguin-looking pal out of a cannon.

If you like gardening, pals can help you out with that too. And if you're into mass manufacturing, apparently you can hire a lot of pals to assemble items in a factory? There's also dungeon explorations, something you can do with your friends since the game supports multiplayer.

No firm release date is known yet, but Palworld should come out for PC sometime in 2022.

The Last Faith's Latest Trailer Indulges In Pixelated Violence

1 year 10 months ago

Kumi Souls Games has been rather quiet on social media about its upcoming gothic-horror action game The Last Faith, but as part of the Future Games Show presentation, we were able to see how it's shaping up. The fresh footage shows Belmont-esque protagonist Eric as he brutalizes everything in his path, destroying plenty of beautifully drawn monsters, and faces off against a towering and salivating hydra beast.

The Last Faith borrows heavily from Castlevania and games like Dark souls, offering what looks to be a tough, violent affair. Eric has plenty of weapons and attacks in his arsenal including a fiery haymaker punch, a shocking electrified blade, and a shotgun to keep the enemies in check at mid-range. He also utilizes gruesome execution moves to take foes down for good; it's strangely impressive how gross some details of these attacks come off in the pixel low-rez art.

Following a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020, Kumi Souls Games have been hard at work on the 2D action game. Since then, publisher Playstack has picked up The Last Faith for distribution, and the final game is starting to come together.

We don't have an exact release date for The Last Faith quite yet, but the trailer does solidify a 2022 launch target on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

Sunday Gold Looks Like An Action-Packed Disco Elysium

1 year 10 months ago

The summer showcases are going strong, and we've seen plenty of games that catch our eye. After the Future Games Show today, we'll be adding one more to the list: Sunday Gold.

Sunday Gold is a "classic adventure" game from developer BKOM Studios and publisher Team17. The point-and-click, turn-based title has serious Disco Elysium vibes, though its dystopian future London looks to be a little more over-the-top. The game's leading characters, a group of scrappy criminals, are on a mission to reveal the truth behind the unethical business practices of corrupt billionaire, Keny Hogan. And today's trailer showed the bombastic length's they're ready to go to achieve that goal. Check out the world premiere trailer below.

Fully voiced and filled with puzzles alongside the combat, Sunday Gold is set to launch on PC later this year.

The Last Faith Is The Retro-Style Bloodborne We've Always Wanted

1 year 10 months ago

There have been a lot of Souls-likes released over the last several years, but few look as impressive as The Last Faith. Shown off during the Future Games Show on June 11, this gothic metroidvania isn't trying to hide Bloodborne's influence, and we're not complaining.

The gameplay snippet shown off during the presentation began with the player-character putting a lightning status effect on their weapon, which any Souls fan should be familiar with doing.

The combat is bloody, culminates in brutal finishing moves, and you won't be limited to just melee attacks. Magical abilities like conjured giant fists or icy swords can deal damage from afar, and with how much everyone in the game seems to hate you, those spells should come in handy.

Though the brutal enemies will undoubtedly be a big challenge, combat won't be the only thing that kills you in The Last Faith. There will also be environmental hazards, including giant pendulum axes in platforming sections. If they give you flashbacks to Sen Fortress, you aren't alone.

The Last Faith is releasing in 2022 for PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Bright Memory: Infinite Is Coming Soon To PS5, Xbox Series X|S, And Nintendo Switch

1 year 10 months ago

Bright Memory: Infinite, the high-octane FPS which first released on PC in 2021, is coming to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch later this year, alongside the previously announced Xbox Series X|S version.

Announced during the Future Games Showcase today, it was confirmed that both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions will fully support ray tracing with reflections at 60fps or 120fps on performance mode, with the PS5 version also utilizing the DualSense controller's adaptive triggers. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch version will run natively on the hardware, not through the cloud, and will feature multi-sampling of TAA anti-aliasing and gyroscopic aiming support.

“I know people had to wait a bit longer, but my partners and I decided we needed to take as much time as possible to make Bright Memory: Infinite shine on consoles,” said Zeng of developer FYQD Studio. “We used that extra time to optimize the game on each device. I was confident about getting Bright Memory: Infinite on consoles, but playing the game on those platforms still feels like a miracle.”

In Bright Memory: Infinite, players will take the role of special agent Shelia to uncover the mystery behind why a black hole opened up during Chinese New Year celebrations. A new trailer also debuted showcasing the combat of Bright Memory: Infinite, which combines the gunplay of first-person shooters and the swordplay of hack-and-slash action games.

Enjoy jaunty post-apocalypse dune-surfing in free-to-play Tray Racers

1 year 10 months ago

Revealed at the Future Games Show tonight, Tray Racers is a game clearly derived from a dev accidentally doing a spoonerism in a meeting one time. This SEO nightmare is being developed by Bit Loom, the team behind colourful yet somehow unsettling puzzle game Phogs, and it's about racing down sand dunes on trays. As the trailer says, "the world ended... But the fun didn’t!", and I guess winning a dune race would take your mind off the unending horror for a bit.

Street Fighter 6 to Reportedly Have Cross-Play, Rollback Netcode Confirmed to Return

1 year 10 months ago

While Street Fighter 6 may not arrive until 2023, we are beginning to learn a lot about the game, including that rollback netcode will return and that it will reportedly have cross-play.

Speaking to IGN's Mitchell Saltzman, Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama confirmed that rollback netcode will indeed be part of the upcoming fighter, but it will not be the same as what was seen in Street Fighter 5.

"As you know, Street Fighter 5 also had rollback netcode," Nakayama said. "But in terms of SF6, it will have Rollback netcode, but it will not be the same as what we had in SF5, and this is something that we're building from scratch.

"There's a lot of effort being put into the development of the netcode. And it's not something that only the netcode engineers are involved in. We're involving the battle team to participate in that development to ensure that the experience is seamless and that it actually feels good. We're working very hard towards it right now. "

As for crossplay, popular streamer and YouTuber Maximilian Dood spoke to the devs behind Street Fighter 6 and he wrote on Twitter that the game will have cross-play.

IGN spoke to Street Fighter 6 producer Shuhei Matsumoto about cross-play and, while he didn't confirm nor deny the feature, he did say it is something the team does "want to aim for."

Turbo Golf Racing Launches In August, Second Beta Begins Today

1 year 10 months ago

Turbo Golf Racing turned heads when it was revealed in March thanks to its blend of golf with Rocket League-style racing. During today’s Future Game Show, we found out that the wacky sports game is coming this August. Can’t wait? Don’t despair; you can play the game in its second beta right now.

For the unfamiliar, the game pits up to eight players against each other as they race giant golf balls down obstacle-filled courses to knock them into the finish cup. Vehicles can jump and glide, and collecting power-ups lets players hit the ball further, and perform ground stomps, among other abilities.

Developer Secret Mode announced that Turbo Golf Racing launches on Xbox consoles and PC on August 4. Beginning today, Beta 2 kicks off on Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview. This larger test features 12 courses, eight-player online multiplayer (with crossplay), single-player time trials, and improvements based on feedback from Beta 1. Leveling up during Beta 2 unlocks exclusive cosmetic wheels, an avatar, and a spoiler for the final game. Beta 2 concludes on June 20.

Turbo Golf Racing arrives to Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC on August 4 and will be available on Game Pass.

Sci-Fi Puzzle Adventure Game, The Entropy Centre, Hits PlayStation, Xbox, and PC Later This Year

1 year 10 months ago

The Entropy Centre Summer Games Fest Future Games Show

The Entropy Centre, a sci-fi first-person puzzle adventure game, was just showcased during today’s Future Games Show conference, and it’s coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC later this year.

The gameplay trailer did not reveal a release date, but with only half a year left, you at least know you’ll be waiting no more than roughly six months for it. That’s great because The Entropy Centre looks like an intriguing and fun puzzle game. A new British indie studio called Stubby Games is developing it, and Playstack is publishing the title. It is built around a puzzle mechanic that “allows players to think in reverse and overcome seemingly impossible obstacles,” such as the game’s main obstacle: reversing time far enough back to stop Earth from imploding.

You can check out this mechanic in action and more in the gameplay trailer below:

Turbo Golf Racing Beta Now Live, Early Access Release In August

1 year 10 months ago

Turbo Golf Racing by dev Hugecalf Studios sounds exactly like what the game's title implies: eight players race around in cars and slam into golf balls. Think Rocket League, but more golf-themed. It will be available on PC and Xbox Series X|S, with Steam Early Access coming on August 4.

Turbo Golf Racing's Beta 2 is currently available, however, if you're eager to try out the game now. It's free-to-download on the game's Steam page. Beta 2 will run through the end of Steam Next Fest, on June 20.

At the end of the trailer, it's shown that Turbo Golf Racing will also be coming to Game Pass at some point. It's unknown currently if it will arrive on Game Pass as the same date as the Early Access release.

Part of the gameplay includes equipping your racing cars with power cores--items that can can give the vehicle unique abilities like Ground Stomp and Gravitate Ball and Roll. Power cores offers boosts like moving faster and hitting harder.

Hugecalf Studios also highlighted the variety of vehicle customization options in-game, as well as diverse terrains in the racing arenas. The devs also plan to support the game with regular free updates, like new power cores and cosmetics.

Horror Game Luto May Have The Best Cloth Physics In The Business

1 year 10 months ago

Announced last year with a short trailer, Luto made an appearance as part of the Future Games Show presentation. This first-person horror experience is bound to scare the pants off of somebody, especially with its impressive cloth rendering, making a particular terror in the new footage a sight to behold.

Developer Broken Bird Games is looking to create an immersive and emotional experience with Luto. Players take control of a character attempting to escape from their house, but trying to do just that will take you to some wild and spooky places. The new footage is full of atmospheric locales, such as dilapidated rooms filled with mysterious chains, dark hallways populated by sheet-covered individuals, and a hollowed-out cave system. Much of the lighting and materials presented in the footage look great, especially the sheet physics and rendering of an entity that breaks into a hallway and rises to its feet in an unsettling way.

Luto is set to launch on PlayStation and PC in 2022.

Interview: Symphony of War’s Creator on Inspirations, Balance, and a Switch Port

1 year 10 months ago

symphony of war interview phil hamilton

New tactical RPG Symphony of War shadowdropped on PC as part of IGN’s Summer of Gaming Expo. We spoke to the creator of the game, Dancing Dragon Games’ Phil Hamilton, about development, balance, and when to expect it on the Switch.

Graham Russell, Siliconera: Could you start by telling us a bit about you and the game?

Phil Hamilton, founder and lead developer, Dancing Dragon Games: We are on our fifth game now. We’ve been making JRPGs. We’ve always made some new system for our new game. Like Skyborn was our biggest release before, and it was a straight-up JRPG. Then the next one, Echoes of Aetheria, was a new system of formations, but it was still a JRPG, so there was one party but 15 slots that you could put your formations in. Again, we’re doing another new system for this one, and hopefully we keep this one for a while and do some sequels on it. But this engine took six years to make, so we’re super-excited to be able to be at the finish line here.

Morbid Metal Is A Futuristic Roguelike Coming Soon To PC

1 year 10 months ago

Morbid Metal, the hack 'n' slash action roguelike game, is coming soon to PC. During the Future Games Showcase, fans were given a brand-new look at the title with a full-length gameplay trailer which features third-person action.

In Morbid Metal, players will be able to shapeshift between four different "blade-wielding badasses" in real-time and take on futuristic enemy bosses in what looks to be arenas. Each character will have unique abilities and stylish attacks and the action is very reminiscent of Devil May Cry and Nier: Automata. There are also long-range elements which seem to feature a Bayonetta-esque slowdown mechanic.

As the Steam description explains, with each enemy killed, and each level cleared, players will become stronger and unlock new upgrades to aid them in battle. But, as the game is a roguelike, once the player dies, all progress is gone. In a new GamesRadar interview with solo indie developer Felix Schade, he said, "The enemies and encounters are designed in a way that requires players to make good use out of the team of characters they have chosen before the run."

Six Games To Watch From The Future Of Play Direct

1 year 10 months ago

Glitch's Future of Play Direct is back for its third year, providing plenty of first looks,  premieres, and launch announcements for a bevy of games. The direct, hosted by V-tuber A.I. broadcaster Melios, showcased new trailers featuring a glut of different genres and unique premises. Here's what stood out for us.

Boyfriend Dungeon: Secret Weapons

This dungeon crawler and dating sim hybrid officially launched last year and came with the promise of a free update complete with a new dungeon and love interests. Well, we're finally getting a look at it. The new trailer introduced us to Hammer Laleh, who has a special ability called "the death spiral." Axe Johan, who we briefly met in the main game, is also returning to capture our hearts. Unsurprisingly, his special dungeon ability is "the swing." We also met a dateable villain: the whip-wielding Dr. Holmes, who looks as scary as she sounds. Dr. Holmes was concepted by former Ghostwire: Tokyo director Ikumi Nakamura, and is voiced by Twitch streamer Loserfruit. The fun swings in this summer on Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC.

Wholesome Direct: Our Favorites From The Cozy Games Showcase

1 year 10 months ago

Sometimes you just need a game to be a little comforting refuge from the stress of, you know, everything. Enter the cozy games genre, sometimes called wholesome games. These low-stress experiences are meant to be relaxing, friendly escapes. And that's what the Wholesome Direct showcase celebrates. It's like if herbal tea were a video game. This year's Wholesome Direct introduced dozens of new games, including four that you can play or try right now:

  • LumberbearJack
  • Freshly Frosted
  • Melodyssey (Demo)
  • Spirit Swap (Demo)

But there were lots of exciting games besides those. We've rounded up some of our favorite, most anticipated games from this year's Wholesome Direct. Check out why we can't wait to cozy up with these cozy games.

Chicken Journey

I am not particularly great at platformers, meaning there has to be something really special about one to get me excited to play it. That said, I am incredibly excited to try out Chicken Journey. The sweet and silly game follows a chicken as they seek out the answer to a question as old as time itself: what came first, the chicken or the egg? Needless to say, I am very curious to discover the truth and solve all this game's cute li'l puzzles. -- Jessica Howard

The announcement went over some details about the expansion. Jonah is an axe. He initially appeared in the main game as a supporting cast member. Leah is a hammer. Dr. Holmes is a whip. The first two will be more typical love interests. Dr. Holmes, however, is the new dungeon’s boss. They also will be played by Kathleen “Loserfruit” Belsten. There will also be new music in this add-on.

Here’s a trailer for the Boyfriend Dungeon Secret Weapons DLC.

And here are a few screenshots showing off the new Boyfriend Dungeon characters folks will be able to date. It also shows what it will look like if someone uses an axe, hammer, or whip while fighting.

Wholesome Direct: Everything Announced, Including Little Bear Chef, Bubblegum Galaxy, and Melodyssey

1 year 10 months ago

The Wholesome Games Direct just concluded, after showing off over 90 (!) games focused on cozy, welcoming, and generally, well, wholesome aesthetics. We got a handful of new game reveals, several announcements of release dates or windows, some free demos, and a whole heck-ton of new trailers. Everything was pretty rapidfire, but here's the basic rundown of what we just saw:

New Game Reveals

Three brand new games were revealed for the first time at the Wholesome Direct:

Bubblegum Galaxy

From the same studio as Wholesome Game alum Teacup, Bubblegum Galaxy is a city-builder of sorts…except you’re building galaxies and planets instead. It’s planned for release sometime in 2023 for PC and consoles.

Little Bear Chef

Little Bear Chef is a game about a very, very small bear working in a very large kitchen, trying to start a successful restaurant. In the first trailer, we get a look at the bear (really a sentient, bear-shaped honey container) trying to cook in a human sized kitchen. The game is being developed by BananaBox, and is coming to PC and consoles in 2023.

Melodyssey

Developed by Nel Pastel, Melodyssey follows the story of a child journeying through a musical landscape, looking for inspiration. Its gameplay uses block moving puzzles to progress, and is set to relaxing, ASMR music and sounds. It’s intended as a stress-free, exploration adventure game, and is headed to PC next year. A free demo is out now on Steam.
