Forza Motorsport Revealed, Releasing Spring 2023

1 year 11 months ago

Forza Motorsport Revealed New Trailer

Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios have revealed Forza Motorsport (that’s right – there’s no number attached to this entry in the franchise) with a beautiful trailer.

Revealed during today’s Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, Turn 10’s latest motorsport game will hit Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC in spring of next year. The studio calls it the “most technologically advanced racing game ever made.” To highlight these technological advances, the team showcased Maple Valley, a fan-favorite track alongside news that the game will have a dynamic day-and-night cycle, a first for the Motorsport series.

Check out the reveal trailer for yourself below

Not to be confused with Playground Games’ Forza Horizon series, Motorsport is closer to a racing sim than it is an arcade racer, making it an especially great time for people who really like to get under the hood of the vehicles they race. To go with that, there’s plenty of environment tech happening in Forza Motorsport to simulate not just how the cars would drive, but how the time of day, the temperature associated with it, and more can affect the race.

Check out this demo trailer for more information about that

A fresh glimpse of Redfall kicks off the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase

1 year 11 months ago

It feels like there's been an awful lot of horror at this year's Game Fest thing in Los Angeles. Today Xbox got in on the act opening its showcase with a proper look at Redfall, the co-op shooter about blasting vampires and cultists.

Redfall's the work of Arkane Austin, and today's overview mixed up a bit of gameplay with a look at the playable characters. We start approaching a spooky church and then head up into the spire where vampires are leaping about. Shotguns and nice vampire-burning-up effects ensue, and then we're off to learn a bit about the town.

The titular Redfall is an island community in Massachusets apparently, but now the whole place has gone to heck. Vampires have blocked out the sun, drained all the water, and cut the town off. (Wouldn't draining the water do the opposite?) Expect spooky Americana, like a funfair and an old cinema which appears to have the wilderness growing inside. Expect Left 4 Dead-type action as you take on different enemy types.

A Plague Tale: Requiem Gets a New Trailer at the Xbox Showcase

1 year 11 months ago

Stealth-action game A Plague Tale: Reqiuem showed up at the Xbox and Bethesda showcase as developer Asobo Studio revealed brand new gameplay, as well as a promise of coming to Game Pass day one.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is the sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence, the 2019 stealth game set in 14th Century France. Players follow Amica de Rune as she must use stealth and fire to navigate past a plague of rats spreading across Europe – as well as enemy soldiers in the midst of the Hundred Years' War between England and France.

Unfortunately, we didn't get any updated information on a more specific release date: it's still coming in 2022 not just to Xbox and PC, but also to PS5 and Nintendo Switch.

A Plague Tale: Innocence was one of the surprise hits of 2019, incorporating a mix of stealth and survival horror elements with a historical drama. Check out IGN's review of Plague Tale here.

Forza Motorsport Finally Shows Gameplay, Coming in 2023

1 year 11 months ago

After being teased in 2020, we've finally seen true gameplay of Forza Motorsport, which will arrive in Spring 2023.

Revealed at today's Xbox-Bethesda showcae, we saw a montage of appropriately gorgeous cards racing around similarly lovely tracks. It was followed up by a longer, real-time gameplay demo that showed its upgraded visuals and physics up close.

Representatives from Xbox said it will have a "generational leap in immersion" driven by raytracing on tracks, improved physics and vehicle destruction, and a full day-night cycle.

Forza Motorsport was first announced at 2020's Xbox showcase, where we learned that it will run at 4K / 60FPS. An in-engine teaser showed what the game was aiming for, but we hadn't seen live gameplay until now.

The game's been in testing for some time and, with Forza 7 delisted, its release will be a moment to savour for fans of the simulation racing game. Forza's more carefree cousin, Forza Horizon, got an incredible new installment last year - we awarded Forza Horizon 5 a full 10/10 last November.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Gets New Trailer, Day 1 On Xbox Game Pass

1 year 11 months ago

Finally, after three years of yearning for more Hollow Knight, Silksong appeared at today's Xbox + Bethesda Showcase, but it does not yet have a release date. However, the trailer did confirm that it will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass when it arrives on Xbox and PC.

In the new trailer shown today and the first proper look at Team Cherry's insectoid Metroidvania we've gotten since 2019, with rapidfire shots of the main character, Hornet, battling Hollow Knight's familiar insectoid enemies, jumping around lava and more.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first unexpectedly announced in February 2019 as the sequel to Hollow Knight, an acclaimed indie Metroidvania taking place in a kingdom of sentient bugs. Silksong follows the character of Hornet, an enemy-turned-ally from the original game, who is captured in the game's opening and taken far away from the kingdom that Hollow Knight takes place in.

We tried the game back at E3 2019, and found it to be "unmistakably Hollow Knight, but with the speed cranked up to 11." We called the original Hollow Knight "amazing" in our 9.4/10 review.

Squanch Games Reveals High On Life, A First-Person Shooter From Justin Roiland

1 year 11 months ago

Squanch Games High On Life Justin Roiland

Squanch Games has announced High On Life, a new first-person shooter from the mind of Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland.

Squanch Games revealed High On Life during today’s Xbox gaming showcase, and the first trailer for it highlights talking guns, alien cartels, and plenty of Roiland-style humor. It’s appropriately poppy and colorful, too, and it looks like a great time. Plus, we don’t have to wait too long to play it because it hits Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store) later this year.

“After a cartel of aliens invades Earth, a freshly minted high-school graduate grabs the nearest talking gun and becomes the deadliest intergalactic bounty hunter across the cosmos,” a press release reads. “The alien invaders in High On Life are on a mission to dominate Earth, but with a particularly sinister twist: Garmantuous and his cartel goons are intent on enslaving humanity and using them as a new drug.

“[Defeating] powerful aliens isn’t going to be easy; bounty hunters will work with (or against) NPCs, collect upgrades, and acquire an arsenal of talking guns on their journey. Each of these guns has its own unique personality and special gameplay, and they provide their own narrative take on what’s going on.”

Redfall: New Gameplay Trailer Reveals Many Ways To Kill a Vampire

1 year 11 months ago

After a year of waiting since its original reveal, we've finally seen gameplay of Arkane's upcoming co-op vampire shooter, Redfall. Unsurprisingly, it looks pretty slick.

Shown as part of the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, a roughly five-minute long gameplay trailer for Redfall showed off both single player and co-op in action, as well as a quick look at the abilities of all four of the playable characters.

That started with Layla, a telekinetic woman with the ability to create shielding spirit umbrellas and spectral elevators, we see a slice of single player as she sneaks into an abandoned church. Naturally it's not completely abandoned; a nest of vampires are in the attic. Thankfully Layla is joined by a co-op player, who helps her take out a bloodsucker with a stake launcher.

From there the trailer shows off some snippets of each character. Jacob is the "deadeye with an undead eye" and seems to have an invisibility cloak as well as a spectral crow that can fly at enemies. Remi de la Rosa is an engineer with a robot buddy who can helpfully mow down cultists with a built-in machine gun. Devinder is a British "cryptid hunter" with more knowledge of vampires than the rest of the group, and can be seen using DIY hunting gear to immobilize enemies.

All four can join forces to help hunt down vampires, who have apparently taken up residence in the town of Redfall's local sights. "Tourist traps turned fortresses" says Devinder, which sounds like classic Arkane infiltration missions to me.

Redfall Gameplay Trailer Makes A Thrilling (And Bloody) Impression

1 year 11 months ago

Arkane Studio’s Redfall kicked off the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase with the first extended gameplay trailer.

The trailer sets the table for the adventure, which unfolds on the island of Redfall, Massachusetts. The idyllic town falls apart when residents disappear and, worse, become vampires. If that’s not enough, some survivors have taken to worshipping these night creatures as deranged cultists. Up to four players team up as a band of survivors who must fight back and escape Redfall with their lives intact.

The crew consists of protagonist Layla, who wields telekinesis, the sniper Jacob, the engineer Remy (with a cute robot companion in tow), and cryptid hunter Devinder. The gameplay trailer shows how these four combine their abilities to combat hordes of undead, such as Layla creating a telekinetic elevator to launch an ally skyborne.

Redfall releases in early 2023 for Xbox Series X/S and PC and will launch day one on Game Pass.

How to Use Sculk Shriekers in Minecraft

1 year 11 months ago

Minecraft’s The Wild Update has brought in all-new blocks, biomes, and creatures. Longtime game players are excited for these latest additions, including the Sculk Shrieker found deep underground. Are you interested in learning about this block? Let’s find out how to use Sculk Shriekers and everything you need to know about this exclusive item.

What Are Sculk Shriekers?

First, let’s establish what Sculk Shriekers are. This block is an alarm system to summon the Warden when triggered enough times. Their most notable characteristic is their “shriek” sound once activated. Additionally, they can only be found at the Ancient City within the Deep Dark biome.

How to Use Sculk Shriekers in Minecraft

To use the Sculk Shrieker, you’ll need to trigger it at least four times to awaken the Warden. Jump on top of this block, and you should hear a distinct noise emitting from it. You can also walk around a Sculk Sensor, which is often nearby these blocks; they can detect player movements and send wavelengths to the Sculk Shriekers.

Once activated, the Warden will rise from the ground and attempt to kill you. There is a 10-second cooldown after you do this, and you won’t be able to summon other Wardens during this time.

So, how do you get and use these sensors in Minecraft? Let’s dive in to help you understand everything about this new feature.

How to Get a Sculk Sensor in Minecraft

You can find the Sculk Sensor in the Ancient City within the Deep Dark biome. Their blue appearance looks somewhat like a plant and will illuminate when you are near it. Use a Night Vision potion or place torches to have a clearer view of the area. If you want to obtain this special block, you can mine it with any tool as long as you have a Silk Touch enchantment (a Hoe is the quickest method.) They are also found within Ancient City chests.

Bakemonogatari Manga Will Go on Hiatus Due to Illness

1 year 11 months ago

bakemonogatari manga oh great

The artist behind the manga adaptation of Bakemonogatari, Oh! great, will take a three-month break to recover from an illness. The manga will start up again in the September 7, 2022 issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine. Oh! great did not reveal what sickness he has. However, Keisuke Itagaki of Baki-dou noted that Oh! great “tested positive,” so it is possible that he has COVID-19. [Thanks, ryokutya2089!]

Bakemonogatari is part of Nisio Isin’s Monogatari light novel series. The series also spawned multiple anime adaptations. It follows the story of Koyomi Araragi, who is a quasi-vampire and trying to live a normal life after surviving a vampire attack. However, he cannot stop becoming involved with the supernatural problems of the girls around him. Bakemonogatari is the first entry in the series.

As for Oh! great, he previously penned works such as Tenjho Tenge and Air Gear. He has worked on the Bakemonogatari manga since 2018. While the manga series covers the events of Bakemonogatari, Oh! great did incorporate Kizumonogatari into the work for readers to better understand certain characters. He also designed outfits and characters for video games. For example, he created and designed the design for Ashlotte for Soul Calibur IV.

The Bakemonogatari manga will start up again in September 2022 after Oh! great recovers from his illness.
