Nintendo Switch Halloween Sales Have Scary-Good Deals

2 years 6 months ago

Several different publishers are currently running sales on the Nintendo eShop, offering big discounts on AAA games and smaller releases alike. Whether you're looking to try out the Zelda-like Immortals Fenyx Rising or play a party game with friends or family, there's something in this sale for you, and it's far cheaper than it would be normally. And the kids won't be left out of the fun, as there are a number of age-appropriate games, too.

Those deals include Ubisoft's aforementioned Immortals Fenyx Rising for less than half its regular price, as well as the excellent strategy game Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle for just 15 bucks. On the Capcom side, three different Devil May Cry games are joined by seven Resident Evil games, and EA's decidedly non-spooky Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville - Complete Edition is only $12. It's not scary, but it's a great and family-friendly take on multiplayer shooting. Check out some highlights from the sale below.

UFO Robot Grendizer/Goldorak/Goldrake Game Coming in 2023 For PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, & PC

2 years 6 months ago

Today Microids provided the first details about the upcoming UFO Robot Grendizer/Goldorak/Goldrake game teased a few months ago.

The game will launch in 2023 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, basically spanning every available platform.

It will be developed by French studio Endroad, originally founded by Ubisoft and Amplitude veterans and known for Fallback.

UFO Robot Grendizer is one of the best-known series of the golden age of robot animation, aired originally in 1975 at the same time as the publication of the first manga. It became extremely popular in Europe, where the hero robot was renamed Goldorak in France and Goldrake in Italy. This also explains the three variations of the title of the game.

The original IP was created by Go Nagai, who is basically considered the father of Japanese super robots, having also designed classics like Mazinger, Getter Robo, and many more, on top of horror franchises like Devilman.

It isn’t surprising that a French publisher picked up the license to create the game, considering the anime’s popularity in the country. While this may not be developed by a Japanese studio, I certainly hope that it’ll be good, because Endroad and Microids are playing with my childhood here.

You can check out the teaser trailer below.

CoD: Vanguard Season 1 Roadmap Details New Content, Including Warzone Events

2 years 6 months ago

Call of Duty: Vanguard releases on November 5 with a campaign, 16 standard multiplayer maps, 4 Champion Hill maps, and a Treyarch-developed Zombies mode, but Activision's October 28 blog post already details some of the post-launch content coming to the game.

Just like Black Ops Cold War's launch, players can expect a small "Preseason" to start before the first full season begins. Vanguard's Preseason will run from November 5 to December 2. During this time, Vanguard players can continue to make progression in Black Ops Cold War's Season 6 battle pass, and Warzone's Verdansk and Rebirth Island maps will still be available as well.

Vanguard's Preseason

Vanguard's Preseason will also add the fan-favorite Shipment map from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. This version of Shipment arrives on November 17 and will feature a new World War II-themed reskin of the map. The blog post says more details of post-launch offerings would be given prior to Season 1.

Vanguard's Shipment

Additionally, two final events were detailed for the Verdansk map before the new Warzone Pacific Caldera map is released with Season 1 on December 2.

Ubisoft Plans to Create its Own Blockchain Games to 'Enable More Play-to-Earn'

2 years 6 months ago

Ubisoft just concluded its Q2 earnings call, a strange event where relatively-okay financial numbers were overshadowed by the company being on the defensive due to delays, workplace allegations, and questions about free-to-play. But one element that seemed to make both Ubisoft and investors happy was the discussion of blockchain.

Ubisoft's future blockchain ambitions were mentioned both in its earnings release and a few times during the call. As noted in its press release, Ubisoft is funding blockchain gaming company Animoca Brands, which advertises itself on its website as "the global leader in branded blockchain gaming."

Animoca's current projects include Revv Motorsport, Revv Racing, and upcoming game Formula E: High Voltage, all of which use the same token called "REVV" to enable players to "own" digital assets and collect NFT in-game items. It also has a game called The Sandbox, a virtual world full of NFTs called "Sand."

In addition to its funding of Animoca, Ubisoft is a founding member of the Blockchain Game Alliance and has been exploring the technology generally since its early development. CFO Frédérick Duguet specifically called blockchain a "revolution" on the call. It seems like everyone is getting into blockchain these days, but what does this mean for Ubisoft games?

Mass Effect Fan Artist Concludes Alternative Endings With a Heartbreaking Epilogue

2 years 6 months ago

Mass Effect fans have likely already seen at least the first part of Twitter user Skyllianhamster’s alternative ending idea for Mass Effect 3 online by this point, as they came up with an idea that Shepard not only got indoctrinated but that their romance/squadmate with the highest relationship points is the one in charge of putting them down. And while that concept alone is heartbreaking enough to imagine, the artist has recently added a part 3 to their alternative ending that’ll surely make fans cry.

As you can see in their recent post to Twitter, Skyllianhamster showed off images of what it would look like if the low EMS Destroy ending occurred for Spacer Shepard and highest relationship Liara. In this epilogue, Shepard’s mother and Liara’s father can be seen crying at their funeral in the rain accompanied by the quote, “No parent should have to bury their child.”

We’ve also included the first two parts beforehand for anyone that hasn’t seen them before (just keep in mind the first two parts are out of order in terms of their release):

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Announced for Oculus Quest 2

2 years 6 months ago

Earlier today, it was revealed on the Oculus Twitter account and at the Facebook Connect 2021 event that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is in development for the Oculus Quest 2. There’s no release date or window yet, but the tweet indicated that there will be more information coming soon.

You can find the official statement about this announcement from Oculus down below:

Today at Connect, we announced that the Rockstar Games classic Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is in development for Quest 2. Get a new perspective on Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas as you experience (again or for the first time) one of gaming’s most iconic open worlds. This is a project many years in the making, and we can’t wait to show you more of it.

As of right now, it doesn’t appear that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is currently in development for any other headsets from Oculus or other VR hardware manufacturers.

It’s currently unclear which development team will be developing this VR version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for the Oculus Quest 2. But what we know for sure is that this will be only the second Rockstar original game that will be remade for VR and the first one since LA Noire: The VR Case Files released back in 2017.

The tweet announcing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for the Oculus Quest 2 can be found below.

Ubisoft Insists All is Well Despite Delays, Allegations, and Hazy Projections

2 years 6 months ago

Even as Ubisoft released several well-received, blockbuster games in the last few years, the French-Canadian company has nonetheless been having a time of it.

First, and most importantly, there have been ongoing allegations of toxic work culture, leadership, and sexual harassment at the studio first publicized last year. This was reinvigorated in light of similar allegations at Activision Blizzard and accusations that Ubisoft hadn't done enough in the past year to fix the company's culture.

Facebook Rebrands Itself Under a New Name: Meta

2 years 6 months ago

Update: The newly-renamed Meta is also retiring the Oculus brand. In an update posted to Facebook, executive Andrew Bosworth outlined the social media giant's plan to consolidate its various technology verticals under one name.

"VR will be the most immersive way for people to access the metaverse and as we look toward our goal of bringing 1B people into VR, we want to make it clear that Quest is a Meta product. For this reason, we’re simplifying our brand architecture and shifting away from the Oculus brand." Bosworth wrote. "Starting in early 2022, you’ll start to see the shift from Oculus Quest from Facebook to Meta Quest and Oculus App to Meta Quest App over time."

He continued, "We all have a strong attachment to the Oculus brand, and this was a very difficult decision to make. While we’re retiring the name, I can assure you that the original Oculus vision remains deeply embedded in how Meta will continue to drive mass adoption for VR today."

Ubisoft says Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is its "second largest profit generating game"

2 years 6 months ago

Ubisoft has released its Q2 earnings report which, as well as confirming its 2022-23 release slate and a delay for The Division: Heartland, has revealed Assassin's Creed: Valhalla to be its "second largest profit generating game".

Valhalla, which was previously described as having the "biggest launch for any Assassin's Creed game to date", has reached that milestone in under 12 months (its one year anniversary arrives on 10th November), with Ubisoft saying the title has been "outperforming Assassin's Creed Odyssey across the board since its release. In particular, it highlights "higher" daily average revenue per user and "record engagement" for its Siege of Paris expansion.

Facebook Reveals New Name, Meta

2 years 6 months ago

As suspected, Facebook announced a new name today during its Facebook Connect event. Mark Zuckerberg announced a new parent company, called Meta, under which Facebook will operate.

Zuckerberg said he hopes Facebook can become known more as a metaverse company as opposed to a social media company. The new name is part of that ambition. Zuckerberg also clarified that users will not need Facebook to access its services going forward.

"Meta's focus will be to bring the metaverse to life and help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses," the company said.

"The metaverse will feel like a hybrid of today's online social experiences, sometimes expanded into three dimensions or projected into the physical world. It will let you share immersive experiences with other people even when you can't be together--and do things together you couldn't do in the physical world. It's the next evolution in a long line of social technologies, and it’s ushering in a new chapter for our company."

CoD: Warzone Gets Pacific Map On December 2 With New Dogfighting Mode

2 years 6 months ago

Activision finally revealed the details of Call of Duty: Vanguard's upcoming integration to Warzone later this year with Season 1 of post-launch content. Season 1 starts on December 2, bringing a new Warzone Pacific map called Caldera that will introduce new modes, including some dogfighting. Prior to the start of Warzone Pacific, players will also get limited-time modes in Verdansk to say goodbye to the map, as well as learn information about Caldera before the integration.

Leading up to Vanguard's Season 1 and the new Caldera map, Warzone's Verdansk map will get two final events. First, Operation: Flashback is described as an encore for Verdansk, which begins on November 18. This is a limited-time mode that is said to feature plenty of surprises that cover Verdansk's history over the last 18 months.

Operation: Flashback will reward two unique items:

  • An Emblem for participating in the event
  • And an animated Calling Card for those who claim victory

This final goodbye for Verdansk is very vague, but Activision says more information on Operation: Flashback will be revealed prior to its launch on November 18.

New World Update 1.0.4 Looks To Address Invulnerability Bugs

2 years 6 months ago

New World's latest update is live, and it looks to address a number of critical bugs, including some that are making players invincible.

Update 1.0.4 will allow for server transfers to happen once more in Amazon Game Studios' MMORPG, after having been taken offline for a period following issues with the service. The update also addresses a number of bugs both big and small, from issues with the Ice Gauntlet's Ice Pylon ability having an infinitely long cooldown to players losing the houses they purchased in the Cutlass Key territory.

One of the biggest problems the update looks to address are several instances in which players could become invincible, at least one of which involved playing the game in windowed mode and dragging the game window around. Bad enough in a PvE focused game, the fact that New World largely revolves around PvP made this issue potentially game-breaking. Amazon says it has fixed "several known causes" of players becoming invulnerable and that the issue is a "top priority." The patch notes state the fixes are "speculative" and that the team is continuing to work on additional fixes.

Ubisoft Says Assassin's Creed Infinity Will Have All The Elements Fans Love, Not Free-To-Play

2 years 6 months ago

Ubisoft has shared some new details on Assassin's Creed Infinity, the codename for the company's next big Assassin's Creed game. As part of Ubisoft's latest earning briefing, CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed the title is not free-to-play and added that it will be a "huge game" featuring everything fans love about the series.

"It's not going to be a free-to-play [game]," Guillemot said. "This game is going to have a lot of narrative elements in it. It's going to be very innovative game, but it will have what players already have in all the other Assassin's Creed games, all the elements that they love... right from the start. So it's going to be a huge game. But with lots of elements that already exist in the games that we published in the past."

Also during the call, management confirmed that Infinity--or whatever the game is called when it releases--is still in the "early" stage of development. A report said the game won't be released until 2024 at the soonest.

Ubisoft management declined to say when Infinity is scheduled for release, but the company said its development teams will release "meaningful" paid content for the Assassin's Creed franchise each year. Assassin's Creed Valhalla, for example, will receive lots of new content in its second year. The game is already the second biggest profit-generating game in Ubisoft's history.

Oculus Quest to Phase Out Facebook Account Requirement

2 years 6 months ago

During Facebook Connect, Mark Zuckerberg announced that a personal Facebook account would soon no longer be required to use Oculus Quest hardware.

"As we've focused more on work, and frankly as we've heard your feedback more broadly, we're working on making it so you can log into Quest with an account other than your personal Facebook account," Zuckerberg said during the Facebook Connect keynote.

Last year, Facebook announced that Oculus VR headsets would require a Facebook login starting in October 2020, and independent Oculus account support would end at the start of 2023. The move was massively unpopular, as many people did not want to link their personal social media – or use Facebook at all – in order to use their Oculus VR devices.

Now, it seems the company has reversed course.

"We're starting to test support for work accounts soon, and we're working on making a broader shift here within the next year," Zuckerberg said.

During today's event, Facebook also announced that GTA: San Andreas would be coming to Oculus Quest 2, teased a next-generation VR/AR headset called Project Cambria, and said the company would be changing its name to Meta.

Inscryption Cabin Safe Guide - Where To Find The Safe Combination

2 years 6 months ago

Inscryption is a roguelike card game, but to advance through it, you'll need to get to know both the card game itself and the room around the table. It's possible to stand up in between card game bouts and wander around Inscryption's setting, investigating objects, finding clues, and solving puzzles that will help you advance the narrative.

The first big puzzle you'll need to solve involves a safe standing against one wall of the cabin. Getting into it isn't tough--once you have the combination. But with the spooky opponent to deal with, a fairly complex card game to learn, and a lot of other puzzles to understand, it can be a bit tricky to find what you're looking for.

Below, we'll put you on track to finding the safe combination, while also providing the solution if you'd rather just have the answer. You might also want to check out our Inscryption tips for beginners, and once you open the safe, read our slide puzzle guide for help with the cabin's next challenge.

How To Find The Safe Combination

While Inscryption is packed full of puzzles, most of them are pretty simple, requiring you to be observant and to pay attention to the characters you interact with along the way. Some of the cards you encounter can speak to you, suggesting that there's more going on with your shadowy opponent than just a friendly game. As you work your way through a few matches, you'll get some hints as to what you should do next. Primarily, you want to try to seek out other cards that can speak. Your opponent has hidden them in the room, and it's your job to find them.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR Announced for Oculus Quest 2

2 years 6 months ago

During today's Facebook Connect, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Rockstar's classic open-world game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is coming Oculus Quest 2.

While no footage of the VR port was shown, Oculus Quest 2 is no stranger to porting classic games and re-imagining them for VR. Oculus previously worked with Armature and Capcom to bring Resident Evil 4 to VR.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is set in the fictional southern California city and tells the story of the CJ, a framed man who returns to his old San Andreas neighborhood to save his family.

Like other Grand Theft Auto games, San Andreas is an open-world game where players can freely explore San Andreas and its neighboring areas. Facebook didn't reveal details about how this open-world saga will be translated into VR.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Is Coming To VR Via Oculus Quest 2

2 years 6 months ago

Soon, players will be able to walk through the streets of San Andreas literally in CJ's shoes. Announced during Facebook's metaverse-focused Connect event, it was revealed that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is coming to VR via the social media giant's Oculus Quest 2 headset.

While GTA: San Andreas' release on the Quest 2 marks the franchise's first journey onto the platform, VR isn't anything new for Rockstar. The developer re-released L.A. Noire as a VR title for PlayStation VR, the HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift in 2016.

It's not clear when GTA: San Andreas' VR version will release on the Oculus Quest 2. According to a page on Oculus' site, the title has been "many years in the making."

While it hasn't been formally announced, it's possible that players will be exploring Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' updated version coming in the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition rather than its classic, blocky release. The version of the game arriving in the collection, which also includes Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, includes updated visuals. Its original blocky style has been smoothed out, and the game's lighting has received a full-on overhaul.

Final Fantasy 5 Pixel Remaster Gets November Launch Date

2 years 6 months ago

The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Series is a remastered collection of the first six Final Fantasy games. Instead of releasing the titles simultaneously, Square Enix opted to launch the first three games all at once before individually dropping the back half of the bunch. Final Fantasy IV arrived in September and now it’s time for the fifth entry to return to the spotlight.

Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster launches to Steam and mobile devices on November 10. Like the previous games, it features updated pixel art, modernized gameplay and menus, a rearranged soundtrack by original composer Nobuo Uematsu, and goodies such as a bestiary and illustrations gallery. Final Fantasy V originally launched in Japan in 1992 but didn’t reach the U.S. until 1999’s Final Fantasy Anthology for PlayStation 1. The game is most famous for introducing an expanded job system that allowed a greater degree of party customization, which has been adopted and expanded upon in later Final Fantasy entries.

The FFV Pixel Remaster normally runs for $17.99, but you can nab it at a 20% discount ($14.39). Those who pre-order it receive two wallpapers and timelapse remixes of three in-game songs: "The Main Theme," "Battle at Big Bridge," and "A New World." If you’d rather purchase all six games at once, the bundle for that currently sits at a discounted price of $74.82.
