Little Nightmares 2 is coming in February, looking nightmarish

3 years 8 months ago

The horribly squidgy world of tiny tots and giant cannibals will call us back for Little Nightmares 2 on the 11th of February, 2021, Bandai Namco announced today. The first game was wonderfully unpleasant and yup, the puzzle-platforming horror sequel looks it too. We’ll be playing as a new wee kid this time, with our old littl’un tagging along to help us with yet more oversized terrors. Here, meet some of them in the new trailer below.

Sony Kicks Off PSVR Sale With Buy 1, Get 1 50% Off On Games

3 years 8 months ago

Sony has confirmed that PlayStation VR will be compatible with the PS5, so you'll be able to bring your PSVR games from the PS4 to the new console and play them with your current headset, camera, and controllers--though you will need a PS5 adapter, which Sony plans to provide at no additional cost. That makes this new PSVR sale particularly exciting. Sony is featuring six different PSVR titles in a Buy 1, Get 1 50% off sale that runs until September 8.

All you have to do is add two of the games to your cart, and the discount will be applied automatically. Unfortunately, this only applies once per transaction, so you won't be able to add four games to your cart to receive another B1G1 50% off discount. If you really want more games, though, it seems like you can place multiple orders to take advantage of multiple discounts.

Buy 1, Get 1 50% off PSVR games

  • Astro Bot Rescue Mission -- $20
  • Blood & Truth -- $40
  • Everybody's Golf VR -- $30
  • Farpoint -- $20
  • PlayStation VR Worlds -- $15
  • Until Dawn: Rush of Blood -- $15

Rejoice! Absolute classic citybuilder Pharaoh is getting a remake next year

3 years 8 months ago

A screenshot from the animated teaser trailer for Pharaoh: A New Era showing the Pharaoh in question slamming a golden dagger onto a table in a decisive way

It seems a developer has managed to leverage two bits of my Ancient Egypt-related childhood nostalgia in one go today. Triskell Interactive and publisher Dotemu used an animated trailer that reminds me of famous Val Kilmer musical Prince Of Egypt to announced a 2021 remake of absolute stone cold classic citybuilder Pharaoh. Well played.

Pharaoh: A New Era was revealed as part of Gamescom this year, in the wake of the Gamescom Opening Night Live show (and we have rounded up every trailer from that for you already). The trailer is almost entirely just nice scenes of life in Ancient Egypt that bare no relation to the game, but we did get, conservatively, about five seconds of the game in action, which is enough to get me very excited.

Sam & Max are returning in new VR game This Time It's Virtual

3 years 8 months ago

Steve Purcell's wise-cracking anthropomorphic crime-fighting duo Sam & Max will be making their long-awaited return to the world of video games in Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual, a new VR adventure from developer HappyGiant.

There's not, admittedly, a whole lot more to report just yet, but it's been over a decade since the release of the dog and homicidal bunny's last video game outing - Telltale Games' Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse - so even this teeniest morsel of news is likely to bring a tear to the eyes of fans patiently waiting the return of Purcell's Freelance Police.

The brief teaser trailer accompanying today's news tells us, "In a world gone strange, one elite force stands against the darkness", before reintroducing Sam & Max by way of a gunfight against what I'm only tentatively going to call an octo-hydra.

Cendres Is a New Narrative Survival Game from a Dontnod Co-Founder

3 years 8 months ago
Nameless XIII, a new studio from co-founder of Dontnod (Life Is Strange, Vampyr) Hervé Bonin, has revealed Cendres, a 'non-linear narrative survival sim' due for release on Steam in 2021. Revealed at Gamescom 2020 and published by Dear Villagers, Cendres aims to cross over the decision-making and narrative focus of Choose Your Own Adventure books with the more direct control of a classic adventure game. The result is a game that sees you leading a party of four characters through a ravaged world, on the search for safe haven. Along the way you'll need to scavenge and manage supplies, choose between moral dilemmas, and work your way to one of 16 different endings. Check out a reveal trailer below: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/27/cendres-a-survival-journey-reveal-trailer-features-a-world-without-color"] Cendres is set 200 years after a volcanic apocalypse destroyed the game's planet, and sees a captain, Petra, a warrior, Sinh, a scholar, Kali, and a scout, Nadir attempting to find a safe home. Nameless XIII promises to let you get know each party member, and their relationships and conflicts with the rest - as well as protecting them from madness, despair and starvation. The bleakness of the trailer, and the fact that we see a varying number of party members throughout, suggests the game won't shy from killing off your party members, and a press release explains that the game will provide different paths to its many endings based on your choices along the way. Solasta: Crown of the Magister Comes to Early Access this Fall

3 years 8 months ago
Solasta: Crown of the Magister will arrive on Steam Early Access this fall. The CRPG from Tactical Adventures - which uses Dungeons and Dragons' SRD 5.1 Ruleset - will allow players to create their own party of adventurers (including rolling for stats) for a more tabletop RPG-like experience, and take them through the shattered world of Solasta. Check out an announcement trailer below: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/27/solasta-crown-of-the-magister-trailer-pits-you-against-deadly-dd-enemies"] Alongside the Early Access announcement, Solasta will also get a demo starting today – you can check that out, and wishlist the game, on its Steam page, or take a tour of its Indie Arena Booth right now. Solasta: Crown of the Magister draws on tabletop RPGs, but throws in its own ideas. The game's battle areas are dynamic, taking into account destructible environments, light and dark, and verticality, letting you ambush (or be ambushed) from above or below. Godfall: Valorplates Gameplay Detailed

3 years 8 months ago
Developer Counterplay Games showcased Godfall, the PC and PS5-console exclusive looter-slasher, is set for a holiday release, during Gamescom 2020, with an in-depth look at the third-person action gameplay and some of the customization players can expect with its launch. Speaking to IGN during Gamescom (in an interview you can watch below), Director Keith Lee spoke at length about some of the player choice inherent in the studio's Valorplate system. Inspired by medieval armor sets, Godfall's Valorplates serve essentially as character classes, and in the interview above you can take a look at Silvermane, the base Valorplate everyone starts with, as well as Mesa, Typhon, and Vertigo in action. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/27/new-godfall-gameplay-shows-how-equippable-medieval-inspired-valor-plates-can-fit-your-play-style"] Lee described each Valorplate's set of skills essentially as "star constellations" — players will be able to slot in augments into these constellations. But the order and proximity to one another of these augments can lead to drastically different versions of the same Valorplate. There are 12 Valorplates in total, including Silvermane, and players are able to construct others by collecting Valorplate cores, as well as various other resources collected from different enemies, chests, and even different game modes. The Valorplates fit into three different models — balanced, specialized, and exotic, with some geared toward High DPS, other toward cooldown abilities, and others on debuffs, but still Counterplay is aiming to let players customize their experience. Additionally, Archon Mode is a major factor in choosing the Valorplate for you, and Counterplay has designed them with four core components in mind. Activated by pressing L3 and R3 together, Archon abilities can be used after collecting enough Ethirium to fill up your meter, and each is tied uniquely to a Valorplate.

Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead exists, but mostly in live-action trailer form

3 years 8 months ago

A close up of some key art for Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead, showing Michonne, Eugene and Daryl from the TV show standing looking concerned, possibly at the idea of building a bridge

What’s more stressful than constructing a shonky haphazard bridge? Why, constructing a shonky haphazard bridge while zombies attack, of course! Developers ClockStone and publishers Headup Games revealed Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead today at Gamescom Opening Night Live, with a live-action teaser trailer and so little else that the Steam store page just has screenshots from the production of that teaser trailer. Cliff notes are: it has bridge construction, it has zombies, and those zombies are the same ones that have been troubling Andrew Lincoln and his son Coral for all these years.

Elden Ring Has Gone Quiet And The Internet Is Very Sad

3 years 8 months ago

Elden Ring fans have had enough of the radio silence, it seems. From Software hasn't released any more info about its upcoming open-world action RPG since announcing it at last year's E3. The internet's sadness finally reached a boiling point today after no news was revealed during Gamescom 2020 Opening Night Live.

Fans were eager to see more of the game at one of the many summer game showcases, but no new info was shown at any of the streams put on by major publishers and gaming conventions. The game was originally announced for current-gen consoles, but it may not launch before the Sony and Microsoft's new consoles come out later this year.

Wasteland 3 Review

3 years 8 months ago

It's the early years of the 22nd century, and Hell has frozen over — at least, that is, if Colorado happens to be your idea of Hell. It certainly looks like it in Wasteland 3: Colorado Springs was spared the nuclear holocaust at the heart of Wasteland lore, but an unrelenting nuclear winter holds the entire Centennial State in its grip. Radiation oozes through mountain valleys. Killer clowns ravage the eastern plains. A cult that worships Ronald Reagan controls Colorado's oil supply. It's a distinctively bold setting for this lengthy and often challenging isometric RPG, and it improves on Wasteland 2 in almost every way.

Yup, Teardown still looks delightfully destructive

Scarlet Nexus for PS5, Xbox Series X, PS4, Xbox One, & PC Reveal New Characters With New Screenshots

3 years 8 months ago

Following the reveal of a new trailer at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, Bandai Namco released a new press kit with new screenshots of Scarlet Nexus.

We get to meet four new characters and OSF members that will accompany the protagonist Yuito Sumeragi. Their names are Hanabi Ichijo, Nagi Karman, Fubuki Spring, and Kasane Randall.

Kasane is a cool girl who looks like someone who saved Yuito’s life when he was a kid. She’s quite mysterious and little is known about her past.

Hanabi is the inevitable childhood friend who is always cheerful and energetic. She obviously went to the same school as Yuito but they were separated when moving to the training academy. They have now been reunited in the OSF after a long time.

Nagi is the usual mood maker, healthy, and bright boy. He has gone to the training academy with Yuito and volunteered to join the military. Despite knowing the fame of Yuito’s family, he treats him casually without any special reverence. He’s basically his best friend.

Fubuki is one of the squad leaders the OSF. He has many fans among the ladies due to his good looks and personality. He is nicknamed “Septentrion” and he is among the best warriors who fight against the Others.

All the highlights from Gamescom's Opening Night Live

3 years 8 months ago

We didn't get a Gamescom this year, but we did get a Gamescom Opening Night Live - another chance to stare again into the crystal ball of gaming's future, presented as ever by host Geoff Keighley.

Opening Night Live began with Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, and a chat about the various things we found out about yesterday - branching narrative within missions, character creation, that kind of thing. We also saw a cut-scene from early in the game where the team are briefed on the Perseus threat and meet president Reagan.

Next was a debut trailer for a game named Unknown9: Awakening, from Reflector Studios, starring a young Indian girl with supernatural powers. It looked promising, if mysterious.

An Impressive Extended Look At Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

3 years 8 months ago

Click here to watch embedded media

During Gamescom 2020, Sony provided an extended look at Insomniac’s upcoming action/platformer Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

This demo starts in an alien city when Ratchet and Clank pop out of a dimensional rift. The duo seems to be hunting down Dr. Nefarious when they get attacked by a group of hostile aliens. Insomniac's use of Sony’s PS5 tech is impressive, as alien NPCs ran around in the background while Ratchet fends off a series of hostile foes and the camera seamlessly transitions between action and cutscenes. One big new mechanic is Ratchet’s Rift tether, which a

llows Ratchet to grab orange dimensional rifts and pull them open – effectively teleporting Ratchet across the level. In addition to these rifts, Ratchet and Clank will also fall through purple rifts, which transport them to other worlds, and all of this happens nearly instantaneously, which is incredibly impressive.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Looks Superb in New Trailer; Set For PS5 Launch Window

3 years 8 months ago

Insomniac Games’ anticipated Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was one of the big standouts during Sony’s PS5 showcase earlier this summer, and now we’ve got an even longer look at its gameplay as part of Gamescom’s Opening Night Live.

The eight-minute presentation is essentially a longer, uncut version of what we saw during Sony’s event, but it offers a better feel for how Rift Apart actually handles in a moment-to-moment gameplay sense.

There’s certainly a lot going on, with the game’s particle effects and physics animations making everything look incredibly hectic in the best possible way.

You’ll also get a good look at how the rift tether mechanic works, too, which allows the dynamic duo to jump between different worlds seamlessly.

Just as was the case the first time we saw Rift Apart, there’s a very brief tease of a female Lombax right at the very end. Insomniac has already confirmed she’ll be a playable character.

But the big announcement for today was left until the very end of the presentation after the demo concluded, when Insomniac confirmed that Rift Apart is set to launch during the PS5’s launch window.

No specific date was mentioned, and who knows how long Insomniac considers a console’s launch window to actually be, but hey, it’s something!
