Loop Hero makers support piracy if sanctions stop you buying it

The Russian studio behind Loop Hero have encouraged would-be-players to pirate their game if they're unable to buy it due to the sanctions against Russia. Access to some payment systems has been lost following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, so the devs say if you can't figure out a way to buy it, hey, just download it. The route-building dungeon-crawler's publishers, Devolver Digital, have supported this.

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.1 Will Introduce New Characters to the Story

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.1 New Characters

In an interview with Dengeki, Final Fantasy XIV Producer Naoki Yoshida revealed new characters will appear in Patch 6.1 However, while new characters will be introduced to the player characters, this doesn't mean that fan favorites will simply disappear. Yoshida mentioned that it would be impossible to "sever the bonds" created with the Scions and other characters forged throughout the story. That said, Final Fantasy XIV players can expect to see some new characters once Patch 6.1 arrives. [Thanks, Dengeki!]

Specifically, Yoshida said this:

New characters will appear, but that's really all I can say for now. However, we are simply not just adding new characters for the sake of furthering the story. I don't believe that it would be right to think that just because we are entering a new chapter, that all of the things the Warrior of Light has built up until now would just disappear. It would be impossible to sever the bonds the player has created with these characters throughout their journey.

With the saga of Hydaelyn and Zodiark having come to a close, Yoshida explained that characters like Alphinaud, for example, will be able to focus on other objectives. This will set the path for where the next part of the Warrior of Light's journey will begin. Although, there will be a cliffhanger that will leave players asking questions.

Another new patch has been released for Horizon Forbidden West. (Please note some of the following fixes may contain story spoilers for the game.)

As with previous patches, this latest update continues to address bugs and improve the game's graphical performance. However, most excitingly for the completionists among us, it also addresses an issue preventing players from getting the 100 percent completion notice in their notebook. Huzzah!

While Guerrilla is continuing to improve upon Horizon Forbidden West's graphical output, with this patch bringing improvements related to sharpness within the game, the team is continuing to make adjustments "to the game's content with the goal to reduce visual shimmering."

There's a Marvel's Avengers Bug and The Only Fix Right Now Is to Delete Your Progress

It looks as though Marvel’s Avengers has a game-breaking bug on PS5… and the only way to fix it right now is by deleting all your campaign progress.

According to player reports, the bug causes the game to crash every time you load it up, with many players claiming the game is currently unplayable as a result. The only fix, for now, is seemingly to reset campaign progress entirely:

“Our team is continuing to investigate the issue causing a crash for some PS5 players,” developers announced via Twitter. “We think we've identified a fix that is currently being implemented/tested. We hope to have more news by tomorrow morning and will continue to keep you updated.”

“In the meantime, here's a workaround that is resolving the issue for some players - just note that it will reset your campaign progress: Go to Operations and Reset your Reassemble Campaign Progress. As soon as you become young Kamala on A-Day, force close the game from the PS home screen, then you should be able to start Avengers Initiative.”

FFXIV Dragonsong’s Reprise Will Be Similar to Bahamut Ultimate

Final Fantasy XIV FFXIV Dragonsongs Reprise Raid Ultimate Dragonsong's

Final Fantasy XIV (FXIV) Producer Naoki Yoshida sat down with Famitsu to detail content that will be appearing in the MMO with the release of Patch 6.1. This included details about the FFXIV Dragonsong's Reprise, or Dragonsong Ultimate, and just how difficult it will potentially be. The Epic of Alexander was brought up in the interview, and Yoshida revealed that Dragonsong's Reprise will be more comparable to the FFXIV The Unending Coils of Bahamut raid. However, he did state that it could potentially take casual players anywhere from four to five months to complete Dragonsong Ultimate. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

However, Yoshida did not want to elaborate too much on the content to avoid delving into potential spoilers for those eager to play the next Ultimate raid. That said, he still shared some information about how it compares to previous Ultimate content:

I'm not worried about those aiming for "World First," but for those who will be clearing the content slowly... Well, it might take a bit longer I think... Players who aim for "World First" have had their understanding of Final Fantasy XIV tested. I can't say that Dragonsong's Reprise won't have any gimmicks, but it is more like The Unending Coils of Bahamut. There will be quite a fair amount of gimmicks, so please look forward to it.

FFXIV Myths of the Realm Raid Will Explore the Power of the Twelve

FFXIV Myths of the Realm Raid

In an interview, Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) Producer Naoki Yoshida shared more information about the Myths of the Realm raid. Specifically, Yoshida elaborated on the story-focused aspects of the raid. The Myths of the Realm raid will explore and elaborate on the Twelve, which are the deities of Eorzea. Previously, an image of an area that will appear in the first part of the raid was shared during a Letter from the Producer Live. Players will be able to experience the first part of the Myths of the Realm raid in FFXIV with the arrival of Patch 6.1. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

In regards to the story of the Myths of the Realm raid, Yoshida said this:

In Endwalker, we answered the question behind the myths of Zodiark and Hydaelyn, but there is still the question about the Twelve, Eorzea's Gods, that remain. It seems that Louisoix Leveilleur used the power of the Twelve to create the seal to Bahamut during the Seventh Umbral Era and save the Warrior of Light. But is this really the power of the Twelve? It's a mystery that still remains in the world, so we would like to elaborate on it. I think those that like the world setting and the story of Final Fantasy XIV will enjoy the raid.

Nightmare Reaper is a retro-FPS roguelike that's bloody fun

Nightmare Reaper is rad, which is something I didn't think I'd say. DOOM and its DOOM-like spawn don't often do it for me. Bouncing around an arena and carving demons into hunks of meat gets a bit repetitive for my tastes. Which is weird! I love FPS games and repetitive things, like dying in Hades over and over again.

I'm into Nightmare Reaper because it's repetitive... but not. It's a roguelike DOOM-inspired shooter where you blast through procedurally-generated levels and their demonic denizens, earn cash, put points into a skill-tree, and get as far as you can. The quest for loot has elevated this from a potential "Meh" to a solid, "Oh yeah".

Eurogamer will be quiet this weekend, and when it's back there'll be some small changes

UPDATE: We're live and back online! Thanks for your patience over the weekend - and please bear with us the next couple of days as we iron out some inevitable quirks. Give us a shout if you see anything that looks out of whack - we'll be able to see it in the comments now that the notifications are back online!

ORIGINAL STORY: It's going to be a bit quiet on Eurogamer this coming weekend, with some big changes being made behind the scenes that mean from 3pm BST this Friday it won't be possible for us to post new articles or for you to post new comments until the tech team has finished working its magic some time on Monday morning - and when the site's back there'll be some small tweaks you'll notice too.

So what exactly is changing? The boring truth is not very much, as it's mostly confined to behind-the-scenes stuff - this isn't a big redesign, and please don't expect big new features like dark mode. Not yet, anyway.

Fate/Grand Order Teases Sea Monster Crisis Event

fate/grand order sea monster crisis

A new event, Sea Monster Crisis: Floating Island of the Innocents, will go live in Fate/Grand Order from April 6, 2022. This means that it will start more or less as soon as the ongoing Battle in New York 2022 ends. While the Sea Monster Crisis event will give a welfare Servant, there is no information as of yet.

In order to participate in the event, you will need to first finish Lostbelt No. 2. However, though you will not need to clear Lostbelt No. 6, the event will contain spoilers for that chapter. As per usual, the welfare Servant that you can get from the Fate/Grand Order event will be an SR.

In addition to the free Servant, there will be a new Servant to pull for from the gacha. Their name is simply Nakayoshi Saber, and they are two Servants acting as a single unit. There is speculation that Nakayoshi Saber is the Trung sisters from Vietnam. Take, who worked on Pokemon Sword and Shield, Katanagatari, and Pokemon Legends: Arceus, designed Nakayoshi Saber.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gajOFNrJGIo

In addition to the new Servant, Lasengle also revealed which characters play an important part in the event story. These Servants include Morgan, Mysterious Alter Ego Lambda, Semiramis, Meltlilith, Wu Zetian, and Ereshkigal.

City Wars: Tokyo Reign is a wonderfully brutal slice of cyberpunk

This is cyberpunk right here. The analogue future of analogue yesterday, but with a bit of grit in it. A handicam with a busted viewing screen. A space-taxi dropping off stale pizza.

City Wars: Tokyo Reign gets cyberpunk. Gets it right in its chunky, villainous, brutal heart. This is a collectible card game and a roguelike, but deep down, in its heart? It's cyberpunk - eternal night, eternal scrabbling to get by. Never enough to go around. Never enough to get a real break.

It's complicated to learn - that said I am quite dim - but when it clicks it's already a dream. You select a faction, a load-out of cards, a weapon and a charm, and then you pick your way through the city, moving from district to district, one node at a time. Opening presents, hopefully. But more often facing a dilemma. And much more often getting into a battle.

Horizon Forbidden West’s Latest Patch Fixes Shimmering Issues & Tons of Quest Bugs

Horizon Forbidden West continues the story and journey of Aloy in a lush and beautiful post-apocalyptic world inhabited by mechanical robots. It’s shaped up to be a worthy successor to the first game, though it hasn’t come without its fair share of bugs and other technical issues.

One major issue that players have brought up with the game is how shiny and shimmery some of the fauna can look in the game. While it’s not exactly ugly per se, it can be rather distracting when you’re traversing the open-world and surveying your surroundings. While Guerilla Games is still looking into this visual issue, the new patch does help to alleviate it a little.

In addition to that, it’s no secret that Horizon Forbidden West has also fallen prey to numerous bugs and glitches that have popped up while trying to progress through various quests. Patch 1.09, which has just been deployed, fixes most of these issues including enemies getting stuck on obstacles, the inability to interact with key items, and other major bugs that halt progression entirely.

You can read up on the full patch notes here.

Horizon Forbidden West is now available on PS4 and PS5.

Dragon Ball Publisher Shueisha Announces New Brand Shueisha Games, Teases Big Game Announcements

Today massive Japanese publisher Shueisha officially announced its new game publishing brand, Shueisha Games.

This is basically an extension into a full-fledged brand of the game development initiatives undertaken by the Shueisha Game Creators CAMP.

On top of further support to game developers, the new brand will also encourage collaboration between developers and creators of manga, novelists, screenwriters, illustrators, and composers, helping them to reach the world with their creativity with original games.

The aim of the brand is to combine the ability of the publishing industry to find and nurture new talent and the power of the gaming industry. By combining these two elements, Shueisha Games aims to create new games that haven’t been seen before and take on the challenge to spread them worldwide.

4000 developers have registered with the Game Creator CAMP and the number of supported games has passed 10, including unannounced ones.

The first four titles that will be released under the brand will be Oni by Kenei Design, Ukiyo by Seaknot Studios, The Tower of Children by Tasto Alpha, and Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions by Momo-pi Studio.

That being said, the developer also mentions in the announcement press release that it has large-scale games already in the works, and they’re not just big in terms of creative value, but also development budget.

The first is a mobile game developed by a major studio from outside of Japan. The character design is by a major mangaka that publishes on Shueisha’s famous manga magazine Weekly Shounen Jump. The aim is the global market with a focus on Japan and other Asian countries.

Elden Ring is already one of the biggest Game of the Year contenders for 2022, thanks in no small part to its immersive open-world and a sense of discovery that permeates every aspect of that game. True to FromSoft’s usual storytelling style, most of the story and history of the game is hidden away in cryptic item descriptions, and there are plenty of events and items that you can miss if you don’t know what you’re looking for.

If you consider yourself a true master of Elden Ring, however, we’ve prepared a short trivia quiz to test just how well you know the game. Do be warned that this quiz contains major spoilers for the entire plot and some of its endings, so if you haven’t beaten the game yet, we recommend doing that first before coming back to try the quiz.

Without further ado, it’s time to test your knowledge and see how closely you’ve been paying attention to the finer details.

The trailer shows off gameplay for volleyball, badminton, bowling, soccer, chambara, and tennis.
