This week, the Electronic Wireless Show podcast is talking about TV adaptations of video games, specifically the best games that would make for great telly box shows, rather than what's already been turned into visual screen fodder (*cough* Halo *cough*). Alice Bee is away this week, adapting to life in a brand-new country, leaving Nate and Matthew to dwell on the merits of The Mandalorian, and whether a show following the life of a Halo grunt would be better than big flashy Master Chief quips.

Matthew puts forward the idea of a Hitman TV show in the vein of Succession, focusing not on Agent 47, but the elite corporate villains he assassinates, as they deal with various cast members being offed in mysterious circumstances. Nate, meanwhile, wants to go all-in on a Dungeon Keeper sitcom, and The Office-like monster relationships therein.

Earlier today in a brief post on the official Pokemon GO website, the times and dates of GO Fest 2022 were announced. And for the first time since 2019, there will be in-person locations where players can gather for raids, trading, and catching.

Just like in 2019, the in-person events will take place in locations three different locations all on different dates. The table below breaks down where and when Pokemon GO trainers in those areas will be able to take part in the festivities.

Microsoft is reportedly set to plug a gap in its Game Pass line-up by launching a new family plan, enabling five users to access the service using one subscription, later this year.

That's according to Windows Central's Jez Corden, who, citing "trusted sources familiar with with Microsoft's efforts", reports the family plan has been in the works for some time as Microsoft navigated issues around royalty distribution and third-party licenses. Those kinks are presumably close to being ironed out now, however, with Corden suggesting an official unveiling may happen relatively soon.

As for what the family plan might offer, it'll reportedly enable five users in the same country to access Game Pass' entire library using a single membership, with the cost said to be "far cheaper" than paying for five individual subscriptions.

The Anniversary Event for Blizzard Entertainment’s online multiplayer shooter Overwatch returns this year with a mix of returning game modes and a few “new” skins. Called Overwatch Anniversary Remix: Volume 1, the event begins on April 5 and will run until April 25.

The event brings six Legendary skins that have been remixed, or have had their colors changed. For example, the black witch outfit for Mercy is now white as Mage Mercy and Black Cat D.Va is now White Cat D.Va. Other characters that received remixed skins include Demon Genji, Evermore Reaper, Steelhardt Reinhardt, and Zealot Zenyatta.

Players will also have a chance to earn previous skins that had only been available through limited-time challenge events. The first week of the event, April 5-11, will offer the Nano D.Va skin and corresponding sprays and icon for players who complete 27 games, though wins will count for double. Blizzard revealed that the Bastet Ana and Combat Medic Baptiste skins will be earnable during the event the same way.

The first week will also rotate Arcade modes from previous seasonal events each day, starting with Summer Games on April 5 and ending with Overwatch Archives Challenge Missions on April 11.

Overwatch is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Its sequel, Overwatch 2, will be kicking off a PvP closed beta on April 26.

This week's big free game on the Epic Games Store might have two sequels by now, but it's still a good'un: it's Total War: Warhammer. You have one week to claim the start of Creative Assembly's strategy trilogy set in Games Workshop's fantasy world of WH0K. Epic have also brought back a previous freebie, the first-person stabber City Of Brass. A tidy haul for the small price of using the Epic Games Store.

Good Smile Company announced people can now vote in the Snow Miku 2023 Outfit Design Poll. The company opens up voting to allow folks to choose which piece of art will eventually be turned into a Hatsune Miku Nendoroid and figma. As with previous years, six designs.

Each year, there’s a different kind of theme to the entries. For 2023, there’s a winter sky motif that results in things like balloons, clouds, and wings showing up. Each design shows how Miku and her rabbit mascot Yukine would potentially look. People are allowed to only vote once.

The 2022 Snow Miku figure featured a winter ocean design. Detsu’s design, which made Hatsune Miku look like a ship captain, was the winner.

As for Hatsune Miku games, there are currently two relatively new ones available. One is Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage. It's a rhythm game people can find on mobile devices worldwide. The other is Hatsune Miku Jigsaw Puzzle, which is on the Switch eShop in every region.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was slated to premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday, May 25, but the hotly anticipated Star Wars series has been pushed back. 

Thankfully, the delay is a short one. The show now begins Friday, May 27. In a video announcing the update, the man himself, Ewan McGregor, dropped the bonus news that the series’ first two episodes will be available to watch on day one.

Obi-Wan Kenobi fills the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope by following the Jedi Master’s exploits on Tatooine while keeping an eye on a young Luke Skywalker. He’ll confront all manner of threats from the Dark Side, including the live-action debut of Imperial Inquisitors and the big bad himself, Darth Vader, played by a returning Hayden Christensen. 

The rest of the cast includes Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, and O’Shea Jackson Jr., among other names. Disney bills Obi-Wan Kenobi as a “limited series,” suggesting it will only consist of a single season. You can watch the debut trailer here.

Good Smile Company opened pre-orders for the next Hololive Vtuber figure, and it is a Nendoroid of Ookami Mio. She will appear in December 2022 in Japan. After that, she is expected to appear in February 2023 in North America. She'll cost $60.99/¥6,100. Pre-orders are open now. However, she is classified as a "limited production" item. This means her pre-orders could sell out before the planned end date.

Her reveal showed a number of her accessories. She’ll have two smiling faceplates, one with her eyes open and another closed, and one that makes her look like she’s exasperated and scolding someone. You can pose her so she’s laying a ukelele. She comes with a tarot card to hold and fried chicken to “eat.” Finally, you can attack an optional sweat drop to her head to adjust her expression.

Closing in on seven years after the launch of its hugely successful Kickstarter, Castelvania spiritual successor Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is still ticking off stretch goals, with its latest update delivering its third and final promised playable character - which turns out to be a cameo crossover from Ubisoft Montreal's fondly remembered fantasy platformer Child of Light.

"Aurora has lost her way and awoken in a strange, dangerous new land," explains developer ArtPlay in a new Kickstarter update. "Armed with the Sword of Matildis and accompanied by the loyal Igniculus, she must find a way to escape."

Upon downloading today's free 1.30 update, players can take Child of Light protagonist Aurora (who joins existing playable characters Miriam and Zangetsu, plus "bonus" character Bloodless) on a gothic romp through Bloodstained's familiar castle, making use of her sword, companion Igniculus - who can slow opponents or heal Aurora - and her directional Light Ray skill, which damages any enemies caught in its beam.

There are two more Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak armor sets to take in, and these should look a little more familiar. That’s because the newest videos show off equipment made with parts from the Blood Orange Bishaten and Shogun Ceanataur. Both monsters appeared in past Monster Hunter games, though with Bishaten it was in a different form.

First, here’s the Blood Orange Bishaten Hunter armor sets in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak. Capcom didn’t share how the Palamute and Palico equipment will look. While this monster is new to the expansion, the original Bishaten debuted in the base game.

Earthworm Jim 2 – SNES

A remastered Nintendo Switch port of Knights in the Nightmare is coming in early April, and Sting has uploaded a trailer showing new players what's what [Thanks, Famitsu].

The new Knights in the Nightmare trailer delivers the first gameplay footage from the remastered title, showing how it'll look away from its original release format.

The trailer clearly identifies Knights in the Nightmare as the fourth episode in Sting's "Dept. Heaven" series. Dept. Heaven is a multi-episode meta-saga that contains multiple games developed by Sting's Product Team A. Entries include Riviera: The Promised Land, Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone, and Gungnir, as well as spin-offs like Blaze Union. Sting did not confirm if other Dept. Heaven titles will receive a Switch remaster like Knights in the Nightmare will.

The trailer also shows off the game's mechanics, with the hybridized tactical strategy and bullet shooter play visible. The game appears to take after the PSP edition rather than the original Nintendo DS release. This makes sense, given that the Nintendo Switch has more in common with the PSP in terms of having a single screen with a similar aspect ratio. Also visible are story cutscenes, gameplay of a player controlling their wisp command unit, and a number of flashy special attacks that draw large effects onscreen.

During the livestream of the New Game+ Expo, several reveals have been made mostly focusing on Japanese games.

We start with Acquire announcing the western release of Kamiwaza: Way of the Thief, which is the confirmation of the localization of Kamiwaza Tourai announced earlier today. The release window is fall 2022 in the west as well, courtesy of NIS America. The game will also come to PC on top of PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

Skystone Games announced Underworld Dreams: The False King, coming in Spring 2022 for PC and Nintendo Switch.

During NGPX 2022, Idea Factory International announced it will release the Switch port of the otome game Amnesia: Memories and its Later x Crowd fandisc outside Japan. Both games will appear in English in Fall 2022. They will be available both digitally and physically.

Amnesia: Memories is the Switch version of an otome about an amnesiac young woman. In each route, she has a boyfriend who can’t know about her lost memory. So you must continue to build your relationship with him without letting on about what’s happened. Along the way, you’ll hopefully also find answers. It previously appeared in English on the Vita, PC, and mobile devices. It is also on the PSP in Japan.

As for Amnesia: Later x Crowd, it is actually a collection of two fandiscs for the first game. Both originally appeared on the PSP. Together, they offer additional alternate stories, epilogues to the routes in the first game, and minigames. This will mark their first appearances outside Japan.

We've already covered Death Stranding: Director's Cut last September, when Hideo Kojima's unique epic received a range of tech and content upgrades for its PlayStation 5 debut. Chief amongst them was the ability to play the game at a targeted 60 frames per second - something that wasn't possible on the PS4 original, even though Kojima Productions originally designed the game for this performance target. The Director's Cut is now available on PC but the upgrade isn't quite so marked. After all, 60fps was on the table for PC users from day one, the port was exceptional and the DLSS implementation opened the door to great performance at high frame-rates.

Obviously, the content improvements of the Director's Cut make their way across, but is there anything new from a technical perspective? Well, the original Death Stranding port's 'default' graphics settings effectively delivered PS4 Pro quality to PC, with only limited upwards scalability. In the case of the Director's Cut, default now delivers the same improved visuals as PS5, which basically means that draw distance has been pushed out a touch while everything else remains much the same.

The Director's Cut also ships with a more refined version of DLSS - version 2.3.7, according to the files. This reduces and eliminates the occasional ghosting trails seen in the initial release. It's worth pointing out that DLSS .dll downloads are readily available for download, and there's nothing stopping you replacing the .dll in the original release for improved DLSS image quality. Eventually, the game will also have XeSS image reconstruction upscale, but we should not expect that until desktop Intel Arc GPUs arrive in the summer.

I’m not going to bury the lede here: The Fertile Crescent is, to my delight, a proper little belter of a real-time strategy game. Having just hit early access, this Mesopotamian pomegranate-’em-up is certainly no epic, and you can see pretty much everything it can do within a couple of hours of play. But it’s been under development for five years, and by Hammurabi’s majestic beard does it show.

Aha, another gaming laptop that conveniently lets me do a three-in-one review. The new Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is a more mature-looking replacement for the 2021 version, while also introducing two brand new components from AMD: the Ryzen 9 6900HS CPU and the Radeon RX 6800S graphics chip. NIS America announced Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 3 at New Game Plus Expo 2022. This will bring La Pucelle: Ragnarok and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure to the Nintendo Switch. It is expected to appear in Summer 2022. It also marks the first time the updates PSP version of La Pucelle: Tactics will appear outside of Japan.

Both La Pucelle: Ragnarok and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure are new Switch tactical games. Rhapsody is an actual musical, in which players help Cornet and her puppet friends save Prince Ferdinand from the witch Marjoly.

During New Game Plus Expo 2022, Aksys pinned down the PS5 release window for Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi. Experience’s first-person dungeon-crawler with turn-based battles will show up on the system in Summer 2022. This fits in with what the company already promised. When it came up before, it had a general 2022 launch window.

This means it will arrive almost a year after the other versions appeared outside Japan. Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi first appeared on the Xbox One in Japan in June 2020. Nintendo Switch and PS4 versions followed in the region in October 2020. Aksys picked up the game, with it appearing in North America in October 2021 on the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One and in November 2021 on PCs. Numskull Games handled the Australian and European console releases in February 2022.

In Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi, you’re exploring the tower mentioned in the title. You create a group of explorers who head in to search for treasures and fight the monsters and other people within. As expected from an Experience game, your party members are characters you create, choosing their names, appearances, and roles in the party.

Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi will come to the PS5 in Summer 2022.

Earlier today, Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor appeared in an announcement regarding the upcoming Disney+ TV series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, in which he’ll be reprising his role as the titular character. In the video, the actor revealed that the release date for the show would be pushed back from Wednesday, May 25, to Friday, May 27.

Alongside this news, it was also revealed that the first two episodes will be available together, meaning fans will get to experience well over an hour of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi the first day it drops. The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. At New Game Plus Expo, Aksys announced it is handling the English release of the Switch otome game Jack Jeanne. It also offered a release window for the game. It will show up outside Japan in 2023. As a reminder, it first debuted in Japan back in March 2021.

We did already know that an English version of Jack Jeanne was in the works, thanks to Broccoli confirming the Switch release. It first ended up teased back in 2019. Then in the middle of March 2022, English and Traditional Chinese localizations were confirmed. However, no release window was offered and it was unknown which company would be handling the localization and publishing duties.

Jack Jeanne is both a Switch otome game and rhythm game. This is because the heroine, Kisa Tachibana, is attempting to pursue the dream of becoming an actor and attending the school her brother did. Except he went to an all-boys school. She does still have a chance to go. However, she must hide that she is a woman and get the leading part in the final play. Along the way, she’ll potentially fall in love with her fellow students and build up her stats to earn the part. Also, as a reminder, Tokyo Ghoul series creator Sui Ishida is behind the game.

Two of the best side-scrolling RPGs of the past decade are collaborating with a new update announced today by ArtPlay which sees Child of Light’s main protagonist Aurora made playable throughout the campaign. A new trailer has been published in tandem with the announcement.

The update is free and available across all platforms, and to get involved you simply need to follow this process:

Starting a game as Aurora is simple. From the Main Menu, find an open save slot and start a new game. After choosing the save file name, you’ll be able to choose your starting character: Miriam, Zangetsu or Aurora. (Bloodless is chosen by naming a new save BLOODLESS in all caps).

The Child of Light crossover will launch on March 31th on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Switch will launch at a later date, stay tuned for news.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt, developer Sharkmob's free-to-play battle royale spin on the long-running RPG series, is getting its full PlayStation 5 and PC launch on 27th April.

Bloodhunt (not to be confused with Big Bad Wolf Studio's upcoming RPG Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong, Paradox Interactive's troubled Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, or indeed 2019 visual novel Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York) was announced toward the end of 2020 and had a limited Steam early access run the following year.

It is, all in all, pretty much exactly what it sounds like, casting participants - either playing solo or in a team of three - as vampires and setting them loose across the rain-soaked, moon-drenched streets and rooftops of Prague. All players have access to basic vampire trickery such as the ability to scramble up walls, but the characters they choose (from one of several vampire clans) inform the additional supernatural powers they're able to deploy. Oh, and there are lots and lots of guns to loot too, if you'd just rather just do the shooty thing.
