We also learn that a new “story demo” is coming.

“In the far distant future, a psionic hormone has been discovered in the human brain, granting people extra-sensory powers and changing the world as we know it.

As humanity enters this new era, deranged mutants known as Others begin to descend from the sky with a hunger for human brains. Impervious to conventional weapons, those with acute extra-sensory abilities, known as psychics, are our only chance to fight the onslaught from above and preserve humanity.

Activision Blizzard To Pay $18 Million Settlement in Sexual Harassment Lawsuit

2 years 1 month ago

The past few years have seen some startling revelations come out of big gaming companies, centered around toxic workplace culture and other major issues that have no place in the office. The likes of Riot Games and Activision Blizzard are prominent examples, and there has been a settlement reached in regards to the latter and the sexual harassment lawsuit that was brought against the company.

As reported by Kotaku, U.S. District Judge Dale Fischer has approved an $18 million relief settlement with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). However, this conclusion is not exactly what those suing are looking for, especially as it might not result in meaningful change in the culture of Activision Blizzard.

I appreciate a good single-serving game idea, and The One Who Pulls Out The Sword Will Be Crowned King is one. Its challenge is simple: pull a sword out of a stone by left-click grabbing it and pulling your mouse upwards. Its catch is devious: with each new player crowned king, the sword gets longer and heavier. Do you have the perseverence to be royal? It's free to find out.

Hit indie hide-and-seek online multiplayer game Among Us could be getting a Master Chief skin in the game sometime in the future, both developer InnerSloth and Microsoft teased today.

Among Us studio InnerSloth tweeted an image of the game with a character donning the super soldier’s iconic green armor with the name “Spartan117” alongside what looks like a 343 Guilty Spark pet tagging along. To better understand the rebrand’s offerings in conjunction with other subscription services, let’s take a closer look at how it has not only evolved from its initial form but also how it differs from Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch Online. You Can Eat a Real Car Kirby Cake From Kirby and the Forgotten Land at the Kirby Cafes in Japan

2 years 1 month ago

In Kirby and the Forgotten Land you can have a super-cute car Kirby (or “carby”) cake, but the pixels will soon take real (and delicious) shape in Japan, at the popular Kirby Cafes.

A limited-time menu to celebrate the new game and the 30th anniversary of the franchise will debut on April 1 and it’ll indeed feature the super-cute car cake.

According to the press release that shared the announcement, the cake will be be served at the Kirby Cafe Tokyo and at the Kirby Cafe Hakata in Fukuoka for the somewhat steep (but not so crazy for a themed cafe in Japan) price of 1,848 yen tax included. That approximately translates to $15.

The same special menu will include a Kirby Burger and pasta with meat and vegetables (and you can have the standard Kirby face or the retro one on the bun) and the Happy Birthday Kirby cake.

The burger also comes with the option to pay about $8 more to bring home the souvenir plate it’s served on.

Judge "prepared to approve" Activision Blizzard's $18m sexual harassment settlement with EEOC

2 years 1 month ago

A US district court judge has confirmed they're "prepared to approve" Call of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard's $18m USD settlement of a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission last year, despite objections from other parties.

Activision Blizzard initially announced it had reached an agreement with the EEOC - to set aside $18m for employees who had experienced harassment and discrimination at the company - last September, but court approval of the settlement was delayed after California's Department of Fair Employment and Housing objected.

In that objection, the DFEH - which had filed its own bombshell lawsuit against Activision Blizzard in July last year, calling the publisher a "breeding ground for harassment and discrimination against women" - claimed the settlement would cause "irreparable harm" to its own ongoing legal proceedings if approved, given that its terms would, among other things, require employees to release Activision Blizzard from claims under California state law.

There will also be a prologue to The Witch From Mercury, which features two other Mobile Suits, Beguir-Beau and Gundam LFRITH. Activision Blizzard Lawsuit Settlement $18 Million

Activision Blizzard, the publisher-studio giant behind franchises like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Overwatch, is set to bring an end to one of the multiple lawsuits filed against it with an $18 million settlement.

It must be approved by the courts first, of course, and according to The Washington Post, U.S. District Judge Dale Fischer is “prepared to approve” Activision Blizzard’s $18 million settlement in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against it by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. It’s important to note that this lawsuit is just one of many Activision Blizzard is facing and you can read more about the others, including this one filed last week, here

“The Court is generally satisfied that both the monetary relief and the nonmonetary provisions are fair, reasonable, and adequate,” a California court filing published today reads, according to The Washington Post.

Drive & Ryan Gossling Fits Flawlessly Into the World of Cyberpunk 2077

2 years 1 month ago

Regardless of what you think of how the game turned out, there is no denying that Cyberpunk 2077’s aesthetic and vibe are just so cool. Even with all the crime and chaos home to Night City, it’s just such an awesome setting.

As such, it makes complete sense that Ryan Gosling’s nameless protagonist from the movie Drive fits into the game so well.

As you can see in the video above, well-known meme Youtuber eli_handle_b.wav created yet another cool mashup, this time with the movie Drive and the video game Cyberpunk 2077. The video shows just how the action of the movie and the game fit together, making us wish that Gosling’s character had a Keanu Reeves-like role in the game.

If you’re interested in more of Youtuber eli_handle_b.wav’s content, be sure to check out their official Youtube channel here. They’ve also got a Patreon where you can support their efforts to make more hilarious videos, which you can check out right here.

Elden Ring Unedurable Frenzy Build Looks & Plays Like a Mech Suit

2 years 1 month ago

On the surface, Elden Ring looks like most difficult medieval fantasy games, as it places a heavy focus on memorizing your opponent’s moves and the flow of battle in order to defeat them with melee or magic abilities. If you get a bit clever, though, some of the builds that make up this game can get pretty crazy.

Take the insane build that uses the incantation Unendurable Frenzy that Youtuber Adam Barker has created. As you can see in the video below, this player’s character has basically been turned into a Mech from Armored Core, firing out laser spells at an insane rate, making even the biggest bosses quiver.

In the comment section of the video, Barker stated they’ll be uploading a full commentary video detailing what was used to create the insane laser lights show build, including how exactly it all works when it comes to defense. For more cool Elden Ring and Dark Souls content, be sure to check out Adam Barker’s Youtube channel.

We’ve also got plenty of other similar content in our related articles section below. That includes lots of features, news, and quizzes fans of both Elden Ring and the Dark Souls franchises are sure to love.

Diablo IV Quarterly Update Showcases Six Different Environments

2 years 1 month ago

Blizzard has today offered a detailed behind-the-scenes look at development progress on its highly anticipated upcoming sequel, Diablo IV; specifically, the artwork that brings many of its beautiful locations to life. The blog post includes supporting commentary from some of the game’s leading artists, led by environments art director Chris Ryder.

As you’ll discover, the blog post begins by offering a detailed overview of how the team has conceptualized the artwork, which has been designed around “creating the environments of Diablo IV through a darker and more grounded interpretation than earlier installments.” The team has aimed for “believability, not realism,” we learn, which has been achieved in part by the use of physically-based lighting.

The article then takes us on a tour of six different locations that Ryder believes showcase the team’s highest priorities when creating environments in the game. Each location has both a written article and a video update blog, meaning there’s a bunch of new footage of the game you can check out. I’ve embedded them below.

Read Only Memories: Neurodiver Streamlines the Gameplay of the Original (Hands-On Preview)

2 years 1 month ago

When 2064: Read Only Memories was released in 2015, it encapsulated fans thanks to stellar pixel art, amazing characters, and an enthralling story. Just over seven years later, MidBoss hopes to capture that same spirit with the sequel, Read Only Memories: Neurodiver.

In this single-player adventure, players control ES88, a telepath with the ability to delve into memories. Using these powers, and a creature known as a Neurodiver, the psychic detective must chase down a rogue esper who has hidden away in other people’s memories, solving puzzles and making friends along the way.

Read Only Memories: Neurodiver preview

I was able to get a quick preview of what fans can expect in Read Only Memories: Neurodiver, and there are already some noticeable differences. The first thing that is noticeably different is that the sequel looks even more visually impressive.

Sure, 2064: Read Only Memories looked beautiful too, but the next installment features even more detail than the first. Character portraits are more expressive, animations are snappier, and movement is pixel-perfect.

According to MidBoss’s Creative Director John “JJ” James, the team used everything they learned from the first game to add those small details. Interestingly enough, they also chose to limit the number of colors that can be displayed on screen all at once to give that natural color shift that older games used to have.

This simultaneously gives Read Only Memories: Neurodiver a retro and modern art feel to it, making for some really unique visuals. Alongside these visuals, gameplay has also been tweaked a bit for the sequel.

Rainbow Six Siege Creative Director on Permanent Arcade Mode, Cross-Play, and More

2 years 1 month ago

Boots On the Ground

We conducted some exclusive recon on all the new updates for Year 7 of Rainbow Six Siege. Here are top takeaways from our debriefing session with Alex Karpazis, Creative Director of the franchise, with insight on what you can expect to excite in Year 7.

Living for Deathmatch

A big addition that should make jumping into Siege a smoother experience for beginners is the new game mode, Team Deathmatch. It features five-on-five gameplay and no special abilities. “We’ve been asked about this kind of game mode for a while and we’re super happy to ship it in Season 1,” Karpazis revealed. “Team Deathmatch is a lot more approachable for new players to understand how our gun handling reacts and how destruction works in the game.”

A New Reverence for Reputation

In Season 2, you’ll start seeing signs of a new Reputation System—a behind-the-scenes monitor that has been quietly active for about a year. “It highlights players who are positive in the Siege community, while making sure we have the proper tools to address cheaters and toxicity in our game, where we have a zero-tolerance rule,” Karpazis said.

Phase 2 of the Reputation System is slated to launch in Season 3; it screens for inappropriate voice and in-game chat violations and makes sure that players who abuse those systems don’t have access until they appropriately change. “In Season 4, you’ll see a Reputation System in full that can reward players for good behavior and features a more robust mechanism for penalizing or banning players for toxicity or cheating,” he vowed.

Capybara, platypus, and more coming to Planet Zoo in new Wetlands DLC

2 years 1 month ago

If cute critters of the damp variety are your thing, Frontier Developments has you covered in Planet Zoo's latest DLC expansion, known as the Wetlands Animal Pack, which will introduce the likes of the capybara, platypus, and more when it heads to PC on 12th April.

Wetlands, if you haven't been keeping a tally, will be Planet Zoo's ninth DLC expansion since its launch in 2019, following on from the Arctic Pack, South America Pack, Australia Pack, Aquatic Pack, Southeast Asia Animal Pack, Africa Pack, North America Animal Pack, and Europe Pack.

Given that this latest expansion falls into the 'Animal Pack' category, it lacks the zoo-sprucing scenery items seen in Planet Zoo's just plain-old 'Pack' packs, instead choosing to focus on a boosted number of creature additions - in this case bringing a grand total of eight new water-themed species: the capybara, platypus, Asian small-clawed otter, spectacled caiman, Nile lechwe, wild water buffalo, red-crowned crane, and Danube crested newt.

The pixel filter pays homage to the series' past by bathing the game in a classic arcade aesthetic that really hammers home the nostalgia, but it’s the cel-shaded filter that truly offers something special. The crisp new visuals of the filter add depth and vibrancy to the game's 45 characters and their various attack animations, and could become a new fan-favorite way to play.

Coromon Switch Release Delayed, PC Version Isn’t

One of the latest Pokemon-like games won’t appear on all platforms this week. Initially, Freedom Games and TRAGsoft announced Coromon would come to the Switch and PC on March 31, 2022. However, a last minute issue with some features resulted in a delay. As such, the PC version will appear as expected this week. However, the Switch release won't.

Here’s the full statement. It noted specifically that cross-platform multiplayer and online features, which could relate to general multiplayer or cross-platform saves, weren’t working as expected.

This is definitely not an announcement we ever wanted to make, but we want to be as transparent and honest as possible with you all. While working on our Nintendo Switch port of Coromon, we ran into some unexpected snags when it comes to online features and cross platform multiplayer. We want to make sure that the experience we bring to you all on Switch is going to be the best that it can be, and in order to do this, we have to delay the Switch launch. We’re hopeful that this delay won’t be too terribly long, as we know that you all are very excited to play Coromon on the go and against your friends/other researchers.

Read Only Memories Neurodiver Interview: MidBoss Talks Pixel Art, Inspirations, & More

2 years 1 month ago

Back when it was released in 2015, MidBoss struck gold with its old-school cyberpunk adventure, 2064: Read Only Memories. The game boasted a solid story, likable characters, and beautiful pixel art that had fans gushing. Over seven years later, a sequel, titled Read Only Memories: Neurodiver, is finally almost here.

To shed a little more light on Read Only Memories: Neurodiver, I sat down with MidBoss’s Creative Director, John “JJ” James, and CEO, Cade Peterson. Thanks to both for taking the time to discuss the upcoming sequel.

Twinfinite: What are going to be the biggest differences between 2064: Read Only Memories & Read Only Memories: Neurodiver?

JJ: For the most part it plays the same. It’s still a point-and-click adventure that has a lot of the stylings of Japanese adventure games from the late 80s and 90s.

The only thing that is really different outside of a visual update is that there aren’t really a huge variety of minigames. Last time we had map and maze puzzles; this time around, we decided to focus on one specific gameplay element: collecting relevant items in a memory and putting them into a fragment to repair it.

That is basically going to be the main gameplay outside of interacting with characters and exploring the environments like the first game.

Twinfinite: Will there be any characters that you think will stand out as Turing did in 2064: Read Only Memories?

Acclaimed tidy-'em-up puzzler Unpacking is heading to PlayStation 4 and PS5 "soon"

2 years 1 month ago

Developer Witch Beam's "zen" puzzler Unpacking - which, you may recall, was named Eurogamer's Game of the Year in 2021 - will be making its way to PlayStation 4 and PS5 "soon".

Unpacking initially burst out of its box toward the end of last year, giving PC, Switch, and Xbox players the opportunity to experience significant moments in the life of its protagonist, as relayed entirely through the act of pulling her current possessions out of boxes and packing them away into a new living space each time.

"Here's a puzzle game, at surface, about tidying things away," wrote Martin Robinson on announcing Unpacking as Eurogamer's Game of the Year in 2021, "a premise that's compelling enough alone. There's something soothing about the fundamentals of neatly folding away t-shirts and socks while proudly stacking books on once empty shelves."
