Devolver Digital 2022 Stream Teases Skate Story, Anger Foot, and More

1 year 10 months ago

Devolver Digital 2022

Publisher Devolver Digital held its 2022 showcase stream during this year's Summer Game Fest. In a sketch comedy presentation starring No More Heroes creator Goichi "Suda 51" Suda and poking fun at the game industry's increasing consolidation and focus on marketing hype (presented knowingly during an even held for the express purpose of marketing hype), the company revealed new info about five games for PC and consoles.

Besides Card Shark, which is already out (you can read Siliconera's review of that here), and Cult of the Lamb, which is out in August, all of the games presented during the Devolver Digital 2022 Summer Game Fest stream have a 2023 release window.

Here's the full list of featured games. Keep scrolling for their trailers.

  • Cult of the Lamb (Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC) - August 11, 2022
  • Anger Foot (PC) - Coming 2023
  • The Plucky Squire (Switch, PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S) - Coming 2023
  • Skate Story (PC) - Coming 2023

You can also check out the full Devolver Digital 2022 stream here, to watch the presentation.

Cult of the Lamb has players controlling a cartoon lamb starting its own cult in a land of false prophets, gathering cute woodland followers and summoning demons. It blends 2D combat with simulation gameplay.

Devolver Digital Summer Showcase 2022: Every Game Announced

1 year 10 months ago

Devolver is never one to show up empty handed to conference season--or say "no" a whole lot of swear words and theatrics. This year's summer showcase was no exception, as the studio managed to squeeze in a mecha Suda51, their own take on The Neverending Story theme song, several jabs at the state of the games industry, and five cool-as-hell looking games. In case you missed it, here's a roundup of what was shown during the event.

Cult of the Lamb

First announced earlier this year, we now have a release date for the game that is equal parts creepy and cute: August 11. In Cult of the Lamb, you play as a possessed lamb who must start a cult in order to pay back the strange spirit who saved his life. Collect resources, gain loyal followers, and rid the world of false prophets to become the one true cult and lamb god. Cult of the Lamb will release on PC and all consoles on August 11.

Anger Foot

The aptly named Anger Foot does, in fact, feature a lot of anger and at least one very powerful foot. Set in the, uh, "caffeine-fuelled fever dream of Shit City," Anger Foot sees you play as a man who is exceptionally good at two things: kicking down doors and taking out mobsters. As you traverse the city's sewers and skyscrapers, you'll acquire new kicks with unique skills for your deadly door-stomper to try out. The lighting-fast, FPS action game hits PC in 2023.

How to Find the Warden in Minecraft

The Warden hides deep within the newest cave biome. Here’s a step-by-guide to locate the beast:

  1. Find the Deep Dark biome.

The first place you need to go is the Deep Dark biome, where the beast lives. You can also find the Warden in the Ancient City. Players will most likely find this area in Y -52 coordinates if you don’t know where to go. For a more in-depth explanation, check out our guide on how to find the Deep Dark biome.
Before entering this cave, craft a Night Vision potion or load up your inventory with torches. This area is exceptionally dark, so it’s a good idea to prepare for this.

Sci-fi Horror Game Routine Re-Revealed at Summer Game Fest

1 year 10 months ago

Over a decade ago, the science-fiction horror game Routine was greenlit on Steam but never saw the light of day.

Yet today, during the Summer Game Fest livestream, a re-reveal announcement trailer premiered with the announcement that Routine is headed to PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Game Pass sometime soon.

You can watch it below.

Source: Raw Fury

Developed by Lunar Software and published under Raw Fury, Routine is a first-person title set on an abandoned Lunar base, “designed around an 80’s vision of the future.” The announcement trailer revealed that players would traverse creepy hallways and encounter hair-raising robotic enemies, but much of the premise is still up in the air. There was a neat-looking gadget the main character used in the trailer called the Cosmonaut Assistance Tool, which will help players hack several computer systems around the base as they avoid enemies in a very Alien: Isolation-like manner.

How to Make Reinforced Deepslate in Minecraft

1 year 10 months ago

Are you interested in making the Reinforced Deepslate in your Minecraft world? Getting this new block is a bit more complicated than you think. But don’t worry, we got you covered. Here’s how to get Reinforced Deepslate.

Making the Reinforced Deepslate in Minecraft

The only way to make Reinforced Deepslate is by placing the block on Creative Mode or getting it through commands. This block is similar to Bedrock since it is almost impossible to break; Withers and Ender Dragons can’t even destroy it. Players can still mine Reinforced Deepslate in the Ancient City, but nothing drops once it’s broken (even with Silk Touch.)

The presentations of the blocks within the Deep Dark biome have piqued some fans’ interests. Currently, there isn’t much use for Reinforced Deepslate other than decoration. However, the block’s layout could suggest a possible portal or gateway to another realm. Players of the game have wondered if it hints at a potential new world, but we’ll have to wait for future installments.

You can take a look at the landmark from Minecraft’s The Wild Update, as shown here:

Skate Story is probably the most gorgeous game of not-E3 so far

1 year 10 months ago

Skate Story has been grinding along for a couple of years, promising a skateboarding game set in an ephemeral world of ghostly corridors and unending paths. The last we saw of it was back in 2020. It resurfaced tonight during Devolver's not-E3 showcase, and dang: it's transformed into one of the most beautiful games I've ever seen.

Anger Foot is an FPS where doors are asking to be kicked

1 year 10 months ago

Anger Foot. It’s angry and there are certainly plenty of feet. From Free Lives, the creators of Broforce and Genital Jousting, it’s so aggressively kicky that I don’t feel like going near doors anytime soon. They describe it as a “lightning fast hard bass blast of kicking down doors and kicking ass”. Good grief. Keep an eye on the threatening tootsies in the trailer below.

Devolver 2022 Summer Showcase: Everything Announced and Revealed

1 year 10 months ago

Devolver has, once again, out-weirded the rest of the games industry with its 2022 summer showcase. Hosted by a malfunctioning "mecha" Suda51, the Devolver Marketing Countdown to Marketing was, well, intended to be a countdown... but the ongoing Devolver Cinematic Universe we've seen evolve over the last few years managed include robots, sci-fi madness, and several game announcements.

We’ve rounded up all of the new reveals in one handy place:

Anger Foot is a New Game About 'Kicking Doors and Kicking Ass'

Originally an itch.io game, an expanded version of Anger Foot is on its way in 2023. A bonkers FPS in which you use "the world's deadliest feet", Anger Foot will have you battering gangsters, buying new sneakers and upgrading your powers as you smash your way through sewers and skyscrapers alike.

The Plucky Squire Is a Beautiful, Ambitious New 2D/3D Adventure

The Plucky Squire sees a beautifully animated storybook adventurer called Jot, who works out he can leap out of said book into the 3D world. It results in one game with two very different perspectives. Inside the book is a top-down, 2D, hand-drawn adventure filled with mini-games. Outside the book is a gigantic world set in a child's bedroom, reminsicent of It Takes Two's 3D adventures. It gets stranger too – different surfaces can become 2D spaces of their own, from mugs to lunchboxes. It will arrive in 2023 for PC, Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

You Have To See This New Skate Story Trailer

1 year 10 months ago

Today during Devolver Digital's Summer Game Fest live stream, a new trailer for Skate Story was revealed. And honestly, you just need to see it. It looks so cool. Check it out:

For the uninitiated, Skate Story has been floating around for a while. Since 2020, developer Sam Eng has been slowly revealing the game on their own personal Twitter and the official Skate Story account. For the most part, these have been small gameplay videos. But today's trailer finally gives us a peek at the game's story – or at least its general premise. That being, per the trailer, "You are a demon made of glass and pain and yet you must skate." What more could you need? More than that, we got extended looks at gameplay, including the unique art style. The camera angle and shake also look about as close to a real skate video as any video game's gotten thus far.

I don't mean to gush over a game I haven't played yet, but I can't wait to get my hands on Skate Story. Luckily, it's expected to come out on PC next year.

Honkai: Star Rail looks like a slick, stylish turn-based RPG, but much too anime

1 year 10 months ago

I rarely feel as conflicted about a game as I do about Honkai: Star Rail. It's a turn-based RPG and I like those; but it's a JRPG and I dislike those. It's got a spacefaring train in it, which I always think is cute; but also it's got anime waifus in it and those make me cringe. Its new trailer, which you'll find below, is dynamic and exciting and well-edited; but... it's got cringy anime waifus in it.

Watch it and make up your own mind.

Stormgate Is an RTS Built for 1v1, Co-Op, Casual Play, Esports and, Well, Anyone

1 year 10 months ago

With its sleek sci-fi/fantasy aesthetic, monstrous enemies, and mech-clad heroes, you’d be forgiven for mistaking Stormgate for a new Blizzard real-time strategy. And, in a manner of speaking, you’d be right; Stormgate might not be from Blizzard, but it is from some of that company’s brightest minds. These days they’re at Frost Giant, a new studio built from scratch by a collection of ex-Blizzard developers, and they have ambitions of taking some of the best ideas from StarCraft and Warcraft to the next level.

Among those minds is Tim Morten, the softly spoken former production director of StarCraft 2. Today he’s CEO of Frost Giant, still directing the production of a multi-faceted RTS. Stormgate, he tells me, was born at least partially out of a desire to evolve one of StarCraft 2’s most successful modes: co-op.

Co-op play was an “afterthought” for StarCraft 2. “It really wasn't something that we expected to resonate as much as it did with players,” says Morten. “But in fact it became the most popular mode in the game after we released it with Legacy of the Void. It's clear from that, that there was an appetite to play more socially.”

‘Social’ is an important word for Frost Giant, and Stormgate is designed with multiplayer in mind. As you’d expect, there are the classic 1v1 competitive clashes, but these are supported by a tournament system directly built into the game. Forget forums, Twitter, or Discord; you’ll be able to create leagues, teams, friends, and rivalries within Stormgate itself.

Annapurna Interactive Announces Its Second Annual Showcase This July

1 year 10 months ago

At the end of Day of the Devs today, Annapurna snuck in with the surprise announcement of its second annual showcase, just like it did last year. It will take place on July 28, 2022, at 12 pm PT / 3pm EDT / 8pm BST.

As for what games we might see this time around, we can make some guesses. Right now, Annapurna has a number of games in the works for this year including Hindsight and Neon White (Stray will release before the showcase happens).

Annapurna also has Skin Deep, Storyteller, and Thirsty Suitors queued up beyond 2022, so we might expect some firmer dates on those games, or at least more gameplay.

Last year's showcase was fairly stacked, packing over 15 game teases and announcements into just half an hour. It included a release window for Stray, an expansion announcement for The Outer Wilds, and tons more. Scanning through last year's roster might offer some further clues as to what's coming this time around. Maybe we'll finally see what Ivy Road is working on?

In the meantime, check out our roundup of everything announced at Day of the Devs and for everything out of Summer of Gaming in the coming weeks and months, we have a full schedule of everything going on.

Space Was The Place For Summer Game Fest 2022

1 year 10 months ago

Summer Game Fest Live debuted new looks at dozens of already-announced titles and first looks at brand-new ones, and it quickly became apparent that there seemed to be an unofficial theme of the show: space.

That much was obvious within the first 30 minutes of the nearly two-hour-long livestream, which kicked off with a world premiere look at a new strategy game set in the Alien film universe, Aliens: Dark Descent. Host and Summer Game Fest organizer Geoff Keighley then followed that reveal up with a (sort of) new trailer and the first gameplay demo for sci-fi horror title The Callisto Protocol. A few reveals later, and we were back in space, this time for the newly revealed space thriller Fort Solis.

Nightwing Gets the Spotlight in New Gotham Knights Trailer

1 year 10 months ago

WB Games Montreal’s upcoming Batman game, Gotham Knights, made an appearance at the Summer Game Fest with a new trailer.

Starring Nightwing, the trailer focuses on his acrobatic style of combat and his motivation. Gotham City is his home, and he’ll do anything he can to protect it following the death of Batman. The trailer also highlights Nightwing’s different customizable looks as he defends Gotham.

Gotham Knights is WB Games Montreal’s second attempt at a Batman game with 2013’s Batman: Arkham Origins being their first go telling the story of a younger Batman. Although WB Games is the publisher of this title, Gotham Knights is not a sequel to Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Knight and instead will focus on its own story.

Batman and Commissioner Gordon have mysteriously perished leaving Gotham City in utter chaos. In his place, the Bat Family must step up to defend Gotham. Players are given the opportunity to play as either Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood or Robin in order to restore justice and will face off against the nefarious Court of Owls and other villains looking to take control.
