Shoulders Of Giants is an action co-op game about a frog riding a robot

1 year 9 months ago

Guns and swords are a useful combination, so imagine having a gat-toting frog riding on top of a blade-wielding robot. That’s essentially the cut and thrust of Moving Pictures Interactive’s roguelite co-op action adventure Shoulders Of Giants, coming to the Epic Games Store later this year. They’re not quite a 21st century Banjo-Kazooie, but they’ll do in a pinch.

PC Building Simulator 2 now has an open beta on the Epic Games Store

1 year 9 months ago

What is building a PC but piecing together an elaborate, electronic jigsaw? Equally, what is building a jigsaw but piecing together an analogue cardboard PC you can't do anything with after it's finished? These similarities are why building a PC isn't as strange a subject for a videogame as it first appears.

If you like your electric jigsaws, then good news: there's now an open beta available for PC Building Simulator 2.

You can watch the Gungrave G.O.R.E. release date announcement trailer below.

Among them are Tomokazu Seki, who will voice Brandon “Beyond the Grave” Heat, and Fumihiko Tachiki, who voiced Bunji Kugashira. Composers Tetsuya Shibata and Yoshino Aoki will create music for the action game.

Desta: The Memories Between Is A New Netflix Turn-Based Strategy Game

1 year 9 months ago

The creators of Monument Valley have a new game called Desta: The Memories Between. In the turn-based strategy title, you explore dreams and memories, and it was referred to by Geoff Keighley on Netflix's Geeked Week stream as "a mix between Into the Breach, Hades, Inception, and dodgeball." That's not your everyday video game description.

The art style will look memorable to anyone who has played the developer's previous games and its debut trailer feels very atmospheric, which you can watch above.  The main character discusses their vivid dreams and memories and people she's been struggling to return to, alluding to words left unsaid that stand in her way. Sounds like it's also going to be a poignant ride.

The game will be available exclusively for Netflix members, with no ads, extra fees, or in-app purchases.

1 year 9 months ago

Almost exactly a year after its announcement, Netflix has offered a first tiny glimpse of its animated, French-Revolution-era Castlevania spin-off, revealing its name to be Nocturne.

Powerhouse, the studio behind Netflix's original animated Castlevania series will once again be on animation duties for Nocturne, with Kevin Kolde serving as showrunner and Clive Bradley being credited as "creator/writer".

Genshin Impact June 2022 Calendar Stars Lisa

Genshin Impact June 2022 Calendar Stars Lisa

For the second month in a row, an Electro character’s been featured on an official piece of Genshin Impact art. Each month, HoYoVerse shares free calendar images on the Japanese Twitter account. When it comes to the June 2022 Genshin Impact calendar, Lisa is the star.

Here’s the Genshin Impact Lisa calendar for June 2022.
Genshin Impact June 2022 Calendar Stars Lisa 1

How it works is that each month, a character whose birthday falls in that month is the featured person in the image. Both Itto and Paimon’s birthdays fall on June 1, 2022. Perhaps because there were two on the same day, it meant the next person’s special day would be picked. That would be Genshin Impact heroine Lisa, whose birthday fell on June 9, 2022.

As for other character birthdays this month, here’s a list of the ones coming up. On that day in-game, HoYoVerse sends out a gift to players’ inboxes that consists of a food item and materials connected to that person.

Homeworld 3 Delayed to 2023 to Help Protect the Health of Developers

1 year 9 months ago

Fans will now have to wait until the first half of 2023 to get their hands on Homeworld 3, the upcoming revival of the cosmic real-time strategy series.

Gearbox Publishing and Blackbird Interactive announced that they would be delaying the game “to make good on our commitment to quality in a healthy and sustainable way for all those involved” via a Tweet today.

News about the upcoming title isn’t far out, however, and the studio reassured players that they’ll get a closer look at the game during Gamescom 2022.

“Blackbird Interactive is building the Homeworld game that players have always dreamed of and we are excited to share the deepest look yet at Homeworld 3 during gamescom later this summer,” the Tweet reads.

Homeworld 3 was originally announced in 2019, though rumors about the game have been around since the 2000s.

All the Characters in Mario Strikers: Battle League, Listed

1 year 9 months ago

One of the most fun parts of any Mario game is either getting to play as a favorite character once again or trying to figure out who is the best to wreck your friends. If you are looking to know that ahead of time before you pick up the game, we’ve got you covered. Here’s the list of all characters in Mario Strikers: Battle League.

All Characters in Mario Strikers: Battle League

There are 10 possible characters you can choose to play as in Mario Strikers: Battle League. There is technically an 11th character, but Boom Boom isn’t playable and instead serves as a goalkeeper that the AI controls.

The playable characters in Mario Strikers: Battle League are:

  • Mario
  • Luigi
  • Peach
  • Rosalina
  • Yoshi
  • Toad
  • Donkey Kong
  • Bowser
  • Waluigi
  • Wario

There are slightly fewer series staple characters than were featured in the previous game in the series, Mario Strikers Charged. That game had Daisy, Diddy Kong, Petey Piranha, and Bowser Jr. as main players. This isn’t to say there won’t be DLC in the future, but at the moment the whole roster is the above 10 characters.

That is everything there is to know about all the characters available in Mario Strikers: Battle League.

What’s Your Favorite Thing About Being a Sonic Fan?

We also got another look at Sonic Origins, new Sonic merchandise, news that a live Sonic Symphony will be touring soon, and more. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Is on Sale on PS5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch

1 year 9 months ago

Amazon currently has all physical versions of the base LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on sale for 25% off its regular price. Previously, only the PS4 and Switch were discounted, but now you can save on LEGO Star Wars for Xbox Series X and PS5, too.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Deal

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a massive game, stretching across the entirety of the so-called "Skywalker Saga," a name Disney invented 8 movies into it to help them stand as their own, I guess? I don't really know why, but regardless, you get all 9 movies recreated in LEGO form, and in many cases, the results far exceed the quality of the movies upon which they're based.

In our LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga review, we gave it an 8, saying "provides some rollicking reimaginings of Star Wars’ most iconic moments and seats them inside a series of interplanetary playgrounds that are dense with discovery and entertaining diversions."

It's just a fun game, is all. One of the greats in an already great line of LEGO games. Has there ever been a "bad" LEGO game? Please don't answer that. I can't think of one off the top of my head and don't want to be disappointed. Not today. Not on a Friday afternoon.

Reigns: Three Kingdoms Is One of Three Devolver Games Joining the Netflix Line-Up

1 year 9 months ago

Reigns: Three Kingdoms is the fifth entry in Nerial & Devolver's Tinder-inspired royalty management games – and it's one of three Devolver games coming free for Netflix subscribers.

Announced during Netflix Geeked Week, Reigns: Three Kingdoms will bring the card-based binary choices of the series into a medieval Chinese setting, setting its latest adventures in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms period (familiar to Dynasty Warriors players, among many other games).

"Reigns: Three Kingdoms thrusts players into the turbulent final years of the Han dynasty," reads a press release. "There, they will encounter the many factions, wars, and heroes of the saga as they swipe their way through negotiations, marry to strengthen alliances, and convert to gain more power. Discover new ways to enjoy Reigns’ unique swiping mechanic as you uncover the many secrets of a vast storyline and a host of unexpected mini-games."

Devolver also announced that it will bring climate-crisis strategy game Terra Nil, and Poinpy – a new game from Downwell creator Moppin – to Netflix as well. Where Downwell had you guiding a pixel-art hero down dangerous vertical levels, Poinpy takes an oppposite (and much cuter) approach – you guide the bird-like Poinpy up levels, collecting food for a giant blue monster chasing you. Poinpy is out now for subscribers.

The Walking Dead: Last Mile Is An Interactive Game Event That's Live 24/7 Beginning Next Month

1 year 9 months ago

The Walking Dead: Last Mile Trailer

A new cinematic trailer for The Walking Dead: Last Mile has been released and it shows more about this interactive game event that will be live 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, when it begins next month.

The trailer aired during today's IGN Expo livestream and it features quite a unique spin on The Walking Dead franchise that we haven't seen before. It looks like a game – its art style is reminiscent of Telltale's series but a little less comic book-ey – but it doesn't appear to actually be a game. Instead, it's a multiplayer interactive event that will somehow task players (viewers?) with determining the events that happen, such as the outcome of the characters shown in the trailer.

Check out the trailer for yourself below:

Here's more about it from Skybound Games:

"From Skybound Games comes The Walking Dead: Last Mile which is part game, part interactive live experience as it relies on the audience to determine its outcome. It's a massively interactive live event that is a Facebook Gaming and Facebook Watch exclusive series."

Last Mile begins exclusively on Facebook Gaming and Facebook Watch on July 11.

Digimon Survive Gets New Trailer, Screenshots & Details About Player Choices, Branching Story, & More

1 year 9 months ago

Today Bandai Namco released a new trailer, new screenshots, and details of the upcoming JRPG Digimon Survive.

This time around we hear about a key concept for the game, the “Beast Gods Tradition” based on the ancient rites to sacrifice children to the beast gods in the setting of the game.

The children were “spirited away” while the beast gods were worshipped within shrines. This tradition was lost with time and is long gone.

We meet the “Professor” an expert on that tradition and a teacher of folklore at a private university. He believes in the paranormal and in undiscovered phenomena that can’t be explained by science, thinking that the key to interpreting them lies within legends and literature.

Another interesting concept is that you have a “Karma value” that changes with your choices in the game across parameters like “morality,” “harmony,” and “passion.” By making choices in the first eight chapters (of 12), the story will branch into three routes associated with these parameters. A further route will also be revealed at a later time.

The hero’s partner, Agumon, will evolve according to your choices and the Karma value. There are three different evolutions, mature, complete, and ultimate, and special evolutions unlocked through the additional route.

Pathogen will see Aliens: Fireteam Elite expanded with a brand new campaign containing three missions and new enemy types. The storyline sees the Endeavor's crew visit LV-895 where they find that the planet's xenomorphs have been infected and mutated into fearsome new forms. The trailer shows off several of these new aliens, which draw upon the grotesque white Neomorph designs from Alien Covenant.

Starkeepers - New Game Reveal

Starkeepers is a new MMORPG coming to Steam Early Access in 2023. A sci-fi game at heart, Starkeepers' central race is a group of anthropomorphic Viking animal-people, including wolves and seals. These unusual heroes are the titular Starkeepers, god-chosen warriors sent to ward off eldritch cosmic threats.

A gameplay teaser showed off the game's low-poly looks, its mixture of action combat and town building, not to mention trap-filled dungeons. The developer promises a vast open world, filled with multiple factions, and the opportunity to fight both beasts and gods along the way.

The Walking Dead: Last Mile Coming in July - IGN Expo 2022

1 year 9 months ago

Ambitious interactive experience The Walking Dead: Last Mile will begin on July 11.

The Walking Dead: Last Mile is a near-unique new storytelling experiment, in which the people and events of an Alaskan community in the Walking Dead universe will be broadcast 24/7 in a series of livestreams. It will air exclusively (and for free) on Facebook Gaming and Facebook Watch, and viewers will get to become decision makers along the way.

In a new trailer during IGN Expo, we saw a situation in which a scavenger dispatches a frozen walker, then gets ambushed by another human. In the ensuing fight, the ambusher is shot, but the scavenger opts to take them back to their community for treatment. It's a taste of the kinds of moral dilemmas Last Mile seemingly hopes to offer.

Viewers of Last Mile will become players through a couple of means. During the live event, mini-games will be available, and succcess in those games earns viewers Influence Points. Those points can then be spent on decisions that can affect the coiurse of the narrative, both small and large.

We're not sure on exactly how long the event will last, but it's looking to be a fascinating new type of game storytelling. This was just one of dozens of announcements and trailers revealed during IGN Expo 2022 - make sure to check them all out.

VICE NDRCVR Is an '80s Computer Hacking Crime Saga - IGN Expo 2022

1 year 9 months ago

VICE NDRCVR is a new game about taking down '80s drug cartels by using their computer systems against them.

Revealed for the first time during IGN Expo, VICE NDRCVR evokes the likes of Hypnospace Outlaw and Her Story by having you search through a fictional computer operating systems for evidence to use in busting – or aiding – Miami's biggest drug smuggling gangs.

You play an undercover agent attempting to maintain their cover as a part of the cartel, and seemingly making key choices that could see you crossing the line into a full-blown criminal yourself. You'll be hacking databases, poring over satellite imagery, transferring illicit funds and making major narrative choices. Naturally, you can also turn on a media player that comes with some '80s inflected music.

The game seemingly mixes computer UI, animated sequences and real-life video footage along the way, building its own vision of the '80s while doing so. VICE NDRCVR is headed to Steam, but no release date has been announced.

This was just one of dozens of announcements and trailers revealed during IGN Expo 2022 - make sure to check them all out.

Preview: Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course DLC Seems Filling 1

Since its launch, Cuphead’s become something of a phenomenon. Its gone multiplatform. The soundtrack topped Billboard’s jazz charts. Netflix is home to a cartoon based on it. Now the Cuphead game is about to experience the end of an era with the launch of The Delicious Last Course DLC.

The hands-off preview session began with some basics and an introduction to the new area. First, someone won’t need to be a Cuphead master to access The Delicious Last Course DLC. Rather, they just need to be good enough to defeat a Mausoleum stage. If they accomplish that feat, the Legendary Chalice will send Cuphead and Mugman a message. From there, the duo will be directed to visit a new, specific Inkwell Isle. Once there, we learn exactly what’s going on.

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course - First Impressions

1 year 9 months ago

Cuphead has just about transcended games at this point. Since debuting in 2017, mischievous protagonists Cuphead and Mugman have been the subject of novels, comic books, tabletop games, and even an (excellent) animated show on Netflix. It’s frankly remarkable that we’re even talking about it as a humble video game in 2022, but Studio MDHR plans to make good on the promise of new content for the full service meal that was in the smash hit boss rush shooter. A Delicious Last Course, if you will.

We got to ride shotgun on a hands-off guided tour of some of the new features, and it's easy to report that Cuphead fans will have plenty to fall in love with here. Returning players will find new abilities, new bosses, and a whole new adventure all from the perspective of a brand new character that MDHR promises will bring a new layer of depth and difficulty to the already dense and challenging main game that is surely to be your new cup of tea.

Cuphead and Mugman, a duo who’ve never met a trap they wouldn’t willingingly walk into, are told that the legendary Chalice needs their help and has arranged travel for them to meet up. Learning nothing from their duels with King Dice and The Devil Himself, Mugman is easily lured into eating a magical cookie that sends him into the astral plane, and gives Miss Chalice flesh and blood. Luckily the ruse was just a harmless test, and Chalice introduces her friend Saltbaker and their grand scheme – to collect rare ingredients and make the ultimate magical dish that will bring Chalice back to life permanently.
