Soul Hackers 2 for PS5, PS4, Xbox, & PC Gets New Trailer Revealing Black Frost

Today Atlus released another of its daily trailers of the upcoming JRPG Soul Hackers 2, showing another demon included in the game.

This time around we get the reveal of Black Frost, another demon that had a long-running presence in the Shin Megami Tensei series, including in Shin Megami Tensei V.

The audio may confuse you with Jack Frost, but that’s simply because in Japanese Black Frost is named “Ja’aku Frost,” with “Aku” meaning “evil.”

As usual, the trailer also includes the daily horoscope with a ranking of signs from the luckiest to the unluckiest. Pisces is at the top, while Sagittarius is at the bottom of the fortune ranking.

Soul Hackers 2 releases for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (Steam and Windows Store) on August 26, just one day after the Japanese launch on August 25.

Microsoft Flight Simulator PMDG Boeing 737, Lear Fan, TB-30 Epsilon, & Tokushima Airport Get New Screenshots & Details

Today third-party developers provided new images and details about upcoming add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

We start with PMDG, which isn’t yet ready to share pricing and release details of its much-anticipated Boeing 737. That being said, we get a development update and new screenshots from CEO Robert Randazzo.

We also get some interesting details on the audio suite on top of what we can expect in the near future from the developer.

This week has brought us a bit closer to release, but we are still being pretty cautious about setting a date-certain because of a few things that add some ambiguity. The biggest issue we are evaluating is the potential for Asobo’s pending MSFS SU9 to create unanticipated issues with the 737. As you can imagine, consistency in the platform is important for testing purposes, so pushing a release out the door right at the pivot point when a major bug-fix change is coming to the platform requires some pretty careful calculus in order to avoid disrupting the testing process, but also being cautious about not creating a negative initial user experience when SU9 drops.

We have not yet finalized a decision and there is an entire evaluative process taking place. As I said in my 08APR22 update: When we make the date certain, we will let you know.

Void Terrarium 2 for PS4 & Nintendo Switch Gets New Trailer Showing Gameplay Mechanics

Today Nippon Ichi Software revealed a new trailer of the sequel of its cutesy game Void Terrarium, titled simply Void Terrarium 2 or not-so-simply void* tRrLM2();.

The trailer focuses on the mechanics of the game, including those inherited from the previous title of the series and those that are newly introduced for the sequel.

You can check it out below.

Void Terrarium 2 will be released in Japan on June 30 for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. No western release has been announced for the moment, but that’s pretty normal considering that the announcement for Japan came only a couple of months ago. It’ll likely be a while before NIS America lets us know anything on that front.

The game promises to maintain the charming (and a bit creepy) worldview of the original game while improving the dungeon RPG gameplay elements and those dedicated to taking care of the little girl Toriko.

Square Enix Investigating “Major Issue” With Final Fantasy XIV’s New Housing Lottery System

The latest update of Final Fantasy XIV included the opening of the Empyreum housing wards in Ishgard, and with it, a new lottery system aimed to make land purchase relatively fair.

Yet, something appears to have gone wrong, as players started to report lotteries that returned the name of the winner simply as “0,” failing to allocate a numb er of the plots entirely.

Square Enix has reacted by issuing two separate posts on the official Lodestone website, the second of which was signed directly by producer and director Naoki Yoshida.

The gist is that the developers consider this a “major issue” and they are currently prioritizing the investigation into it.

Unfortunately, since the code involved is complex, pinpointing the exact issue is going to require some time.

Yoshida-san apologized for the inconvenience and asked players for patience.

As a consequence, the lottery result announcement period (which was supposed to end on April 20) will be extended. On top of that, the next lottery cycle will not begin until the issue is identified and fixed.

This has caused a certain amount of frustration among players, especially considering that the housing system has been identified by many as a source of friction due to its limited nature that locks many out of that content.

Overwatch 2 Gets New Video Explaining How New Character Sojourn Plays

Blizzard Entertainment released a new video about the new character named Sojourn that will be playable in the Overwatch 2 beta.

We hear from lead hero designer Geoff Goodman and narrative designer Miranda Moyeras they explain the origin of Sojourn and how she plays.

Specifically, her playstyle revolves around her railgun (that doesn’t always act as a railgun for balancing reasons) and her cybernetic enhancements, which allow for fast powerslides followed by high jumps.

You can hear it all directly from the developers below.

If you’re eager to play Sojourn, you’ll be able to try her out during the beta that will be made available on April 26.

If you’d like to see more, you can also watch her origin story trailer and her gameplay trailer released a few days ago.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Salty Simulations Boeing 747 Added to FlyByWire Installer; Aomori & Queen Alia International Airports Released

Today third-party developers released a couple of new airports for Microsoft Flight Simulator, on top of a relevant mod becoming much more accessible.

We hear from Salty Simulations, creators of the popular realism mod for the default 747-8, adding tons of features aimed to achieve a much better simulation and continuously growing.

The mod is now available within the FlyByWire installer in both the stable and development versions.

The installer can be downloaded here and you can follow the development of Salty Simulations’ 747 on their official Discord server.

Next, MFSG released the Microsoft Flight Simulator version of Aomori Airport (RJSA) in Japan.

It’s available on SimMarket for $14.14 plus applicable VAT.

It’s worth mentioning that this is a port from older simulators, the versions for which are included in the same package. Since the developer did not provide any images making it practical to judge the quality of the addon in Microsoft Flight Simulator, I purchased a copy and took some screenshots for you, which you can see below.

While I usually don’t include extensive assessments of quality in news posts, let’s just say that it’s a bit rough.

Ahead of the next big expansion for The Elder Scrolls Online, ZeniMax and Bethesda Studios are giving players a deeper look at High Isle, which puts the spotlight firmly on the Bretons. While our recent preview dived into the gameplay elements awaiting players, a new trailer helps set the stage for perhaps the most narrative-driven expansion for Elder Scrolls Online in quite some time.

Beneath the facade of peace, a sinister cabal is working from the shadows to plunge Tamriel into unending conflict. It will be up to the players to put an end to these nefarious plans while enjoying the additional content brought by the expansion.

This includes new companions and allies, more new areas to explore, a new deck-building card game in the form of Tales of Tribute, and continuing the Legacy of the Bretons adventure in The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle.

Be a Part of the French Revolution With New Steelrising Gameplay Trailer

Following the unfortunate news that Steelrising is being delayed to September, publisher Nacon and developer Spiders are making up for it a little with the release of a new gameplay trailer for the game. Showing off five minutes of gameplay through several levels of the action RPG, we get a better idea of what to expect from this alternative take on the French Revolution.

Going from the workshop of Vaucanson where the mechanical soldiers of King Louis XVI are made to the central city that is Paris, the trailer focuses more on Aegis, the automaton that players will embody to bring down the ruling tyrant.

Various weapons are shown off, with interesting hybrids like the Gribeauval Halberd providing both melee and ranged options for players. Steelrising will also bring a level of freedom when it comes to exploration, with Aegis able to utilize a grappling hook to get around. There are also some customization options available when it comes to outfits, which makes perfect fashion sense when you consider the setting of the game.

The footage is not indicative of the final product, with missing elements and some technical issues, but it still does a great job of showing off what is to be expected when the game launches on September 8. The combat, in particular, looks much smoother and more engaging than Spiders’ previous title, Greedfall.

Hopefully, we will see more of the game in the coming months. You can catch the gameplay trailer for Steelrising below:

The Elden Ring Community Has a New Demigod, & It’s a Naked Man Who’ll Fight Malenia for You

2 years 1 month ago

Elden Ring is a game about traveling and exploring the Lands Between, as you defeat demigods along the way to collect shards of the Elden Ring itself to become the new Elden Lord. You might find your journey gets cut abruptly short towards the end, though, if you choose to take on some of the game’s optional bosses.

One boss in particular has become notorious for being the most divisive boss encounter among the player base. Malenia, Blade of Miquella is easily up there as one of the hardest boss fights FromSoftware has ever created because of her devastating lifesteal and Scarlet Rot-inflicting moves. She’s one of the few fights in the game where having summons can actually hurt you, and yet this community has recently seen the emergence of a jolly cooperator whose sole purpose is to help others defeat her.

Klein Tsuboi plays as a naked man with only a jar on his head and two katanas, one in each hand. His character is named “Let me solo her,” which serves as a request for the host and any other summons in the session to stay in the sidelines where it’s safe while he takes on Malenia alone. In case it’s not clear how impressive this is, let me remind you that while Malenia is tough enough on her own, it’s even more of a challenge when you’re a summon with less health and FP, and fewer healing items.

Hideo Kojima Clarifies that Kojima Productions Will Remain an Independent Studio

2 years 1 month ago

Today Kojima Productions’ big boss Hideo Kojima put the speculation about a possible acquisition by Sony to rest.

Said speculation was sparked by the appearance of a PlayStation Studios banner that included Kojima Productions’ IP Death Stranding, which of curse ignited the usual rumor mill.

Things came to a head when Hideo Kojima himself tweeted the banner about an hour ago, sending the Twitterverse into overdrive.

The developer then followed up by mentioning that his previous tweet may have possibly misled some, and pledging that Kojima Production has been and will continue to be an independent development studio, as seen below.

You may ask yourself why Death Stranding appears in PlayStation Studios’ banner, and the solution is pretty simple. PlayStation Studios published the game, pretty much like Microsoft Flight Simulator is published by Xbox, but it’s developed by the independent Asobo Studios.

Action-RPG Stray Blade Gets a New PS5, Xbox Series X|S, & PC Combat Trailer

2 years 1 month ago

Earlier today, developer Point Blank Games and publisher 505 Games dropped a new trailer for their upcoming action-RPG, Stray Blade. The new video takes a deep dive into the combat system players can expect to see when it launches later this year on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Feel free to take a gander at the new footage down below:

Originally announced at Gamescom last year, Stray Blade is a third-person fantasy RPG that sees you going head-to-head with a multitude of pesky knights and nasty monsters using your choice of either dual-wielding, two-handed, or classic sword and shield.

In addition, you’ll also befriend a wee critter called Boji who’ll help guide you on your adventure through a world dubbed Acrea — a land torn asunder by civil war.

Finally, we also get to see how your new companion can actually revive you when you inevitably bite the dust in the game. That sure would’ve been handy in Elden Ring, but I digress.

ESO’s High Isle Expansion Is Classic Elder Scrolls, & a Great Entry Point for Newcomers

2 years 1 month ago

As a complete newcomer to Elder Scrolls Online, the biggest thing that I appreciated was the fact that I didn’t need to have played through any of ESO’s previous expansions and get to the right gear level to jump into High Isle. Unlike my main MMO, FFXIV, which demands quite a bit of time and dedication if you want to keep up with the main story, Elder Scrolls Online is a kindly friend who’s just glad you’re here. And what a nice, warm welcome that is for someone who’s always been intrigued by ESO but never stepped into its vast world.

High Isle is the main ESO story of this year, and this time, Bethesda aims to flesh out the Breton race and give players the chance to explore a beautiful Mediterranean Sea-inspired archipelago full of little secrets and delights to uncover. During my time with a preview build of the game, I was given access to a decked out, max level character so that I could just explore the world freely. By the time I hit the 30-hour mark, I was already looking forward to starting over from scratch to see everything else this game had to offer.

I’d spent most of my time just wandering through the Systres Archipelago, which is home to countless small islands, large towering cliffs, and lovely high fantasy castles. The moment I got dropped into the game, my senses were immediately assaulted with quest markers, talkative NPCs with overlapping dialogue, and so many things to loot.

Meet Sojourn in New Overwatch 2 Gameplay Trailer

2 years 1 month ago

Prepare for a decent fight when facing Sojourn when Overwatch 2 launches. The character seem to wield an assault rifle that can easily fire like a railgun. Within the trailer it looks like a completely deadly one-shot kill. That’s going to cause a few headaches for anyone but the most heavy defense characters.

It’s not just the railgun appears to be a one-shot kill, the thing also has penetration so looks like you aren’t going to be saved by a teammate diving in front of you in a Secret Service save. For those players who like ranged characters with a high fire rate, it seems like Sojourn is going to picked the most.

You can see the trailer here and below:

While this trailer is all about seeing Sojourn in action, yesterday a trailer dropped that shows off all of her backstory for those who like to know the characters completely.

Something that you might not know for Overwatch 2, but for those who have collected more than the average amount of skins, the site claims:

Your accomplishments and loot collections will be carried forward to Overwatch 2. That means you’ll keep your skins, player icons, sprays, emotes, and more!

CEO Adam Kiciński answered a specific question during the livestream about whether the move to Unreal Engine 5 would make development faster. He mentioned that Epic’s engine is a proven technology so production should be smoother but not necessarily faster. While it’s hard to say now, the developer expects the processes to be under better control and more focused on the creative side.

That being said, we should bear in mind that the deal requires development on CD Projekt’s side as well as specialists of open-world RPGs working together with Epic on some areas of the technology to make it perfect for this kind of game.

According to CD Projekt’s expertise, Unreal Engine 5 is perfectly fine to run open-world games, and the developer thinks it can help make it even better.

On top of that, there are many more developers specialized in Unreal Engine than developers experienced with Red Engine, so CD Projekt sees the move to the new engine as an opportunity to enlarge their teams by hiring more experienced developers.

We hear from CEO Adam Kiciński that in 2021 CD Projekt employees received salary increases by 23% on average, and the trend is expected to continue in a similar way in 2022.

Another update (numbered 1.6) will come “in the coming months” and support will continue further after that, but the focus will gradually shift to “new and exciting endeavors” both in the Cyberpunk and the Witcher franchises.

Club Penguin Rewritten Taken Down for Copyright Infringement

2 years 1 month ago

Earlier this week, three people were arrested in London for their involvement in creating Club Penguin Rewritten, a fan-made revival of Disney’s hit MMO for PC. According to BBC, the arrests were made due to copyright offenses, as the site didn’t have permission to run an unofficial version of the game.

The suspects have since been released and an official statement has been posted to the Club Penguin fan blog:

Following a complaint under copyright law, PIPCU have seized a gaming website as part of an ongoing investigation into the site.

Three people were arrested on April 12 on suspicion of distributing materials infringing copyright and searches were carried out.

They have been released under investigation and to aid with the police investigation, they agreed to sign over the website to the control of PIPCU.

Since the early 2000s, Club Penguin has been inexplicably popular, at one point boasting over 200 million registered user accounts despite being a simple MMO about cartoon penguins and minigames. Disney ended up closing the website down in 2017 after multiple complaints of inappropriate messages, racism, and sexual innuendos.

Clones like Club Penguin Rewritten have since popped up, as former players simply copied the game’s original source code. While the investigation is still ongoing, going to the site now prompts you with a City of London Police emblem and a message that typically appears on sites seized by law enforcement: “This site has been taken over by Operation Creative, Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU).”

2 years 1 month ago

CD Projekt just published its report showcasing its financial results for the fiscal year 2021, related to the period between April 2021 and March 2022.

First of all, we learn that Cyberpunk 2077 has now sold through to customers over 18 million copies as of today (April 14) according to company estimates based on information collected from distributors.

On The Witcher side, the franchise has sold over 65 million copies of which over 40 million units are of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

We also take a look at the company’s plans for 2022 which include development of the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, development of the new Witcher game in Unreal Engine 5, further support for Cyberpunk 2077, development of the recently-delated next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, development of an unannounced project by The Molasses Flood based on one of CD Projekt’s franchises, the launch of a single-player mode for Gwent, and concept work on further unannounced games.

Looking at the company’s economics, while its revenue is still considerable and profit is still firmly in the black, both have dropped sizably compared to the fiscal year 2020.
