Sifu 2022 Update Roadmap Revealed With Difficulty Options Arriving Next Week

It has been a few months since Sifu arrived and delivered some satisfying and brutal combat, but developer Sloclap was certainly not done. Following a slew of updates and the confirmation that more was on the way back in February, we now know more about the update roadmap for Sifu in 2022.

Sharing via Twitter, Sloclap is preparing for four major updates for Sifu in the coming year, including difficulty options, various gameplay modifiers, a replay editor, and even a new arena game mode.

The first of these updates will arrive next week on May 3. Players can look forward to the new difficulty options of Student and Master, while also adding advanced training to help you refine your moves. Outfit selection will also be possible following the update.

As for the rest of the updates for Sifu, they will arrive in the summer, autumn, and winter. The gameplay modifiers being added in the summer definitely look interesting, with the options of No Guard, Bullet Time, and One Health Point likely to give experts even more ways to show off their prowess. The replay editor and arena game mode will also likely give us more jaw-dropping videos to admire once the updates are out.

Playable Elites Won’t be Coming to Halo Infinite Multiplayer Any Time Soon

Ever since Halo Infinite’s multiplayer launched, fans have been begging 343 Industries to add a number of pieces of content that the series has been known for. So far, some of those queries have been answered, as features like playlists have been added and updated significantly since the game’s release.

Unfortunately, armor and character customization requests updates have still been lacking, especially when it comes to the fact that players can’t choose between playing as a Spartan or an Elite. The choice to play as this alien species was present in the majority of past games in the franchise, but Halo Infinite has yet to add it.

And according to 343 Industries Community Director Brian Jarrard, Halo Infinite doesn’t have any plans to add in Elites anytime soon.

Sony Reveals Bad Bunny to Star in Spider-Man Spin-Off El Muerto in 2024

Another big name is joining the MCU, as it was revealed during a presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas Monday that Grammy-winning artist Bad Bunny will star as El Muertoin a standalone Marvel movie for Sony at some point in 2024. Originally reported by Indiewire, the news is rather historic, as it’ll be the first-ever Latino-led marvel movie ever.

In the comics, El Muerto, real name Juan Carlos, fights Spider-Man in a charity wrestling match and almost unmasks Peter Parker. While somewhat portrayed as an antagonist at first, he eventually becomes more of an anti-hero.

This obviously isn’t Sony’s first crack at adapting superhero movies based on anti-hero characters, as they really been on a tear lately, adapting two Venom movies and the recent Jared Leto-led Morbius. When talking about the opportunity to play El Muerto, Bad Bunny had the following to say:

“This opportunity to bring El Muerto to life, it’s amazing. It’s incredible,” he said. “I love wrestling, I grew up watching wrestling and now I’m a wrestler … I think it’s the perfect role for me. It will be epic, I’m sure.”

Alongside his career as a musician, Bad Bunny also began a relationship with WWE, in which he’s wrestled a few appearances so far, receiving a lot of praise from fans, critics, and other wrestlers alike. For more information, be sure to check back to Twinfinite for updates.

The Essex Serpent Apple TV+ Series Gets First Trailer

Earlier today on the Apple TV YouTube channel, the first trailer for The Essex Serpent was released. This upcoming Apple TV+ series is based on Sarah Perry’s award-winning 2016 novel of the same name. It’s a period drama set in Victorian England that focuses on the life of Cora Seaborne (Claire Danes) and her interest in the reports of a sea serpent terrorizing a remote village in Essex.

Upon arriving in Essex, Seaborne meets the reverend Will Ransome (Tom Hiddleston) who we can clearly see in the trailer will be a love interest for the main character. But the main plot appears to be centered around Seaborne’s hunt for this mysterious creature and all of the drama that comes along with it.

In the trailer, we hear one of the villagers liken the situation in Essex to the story about the Garden of Eden where Seaborne is parallel to Eve. However, nobody appears to have concrete proof that this creature even exists. Yet, there is clearly something nefarious going around the village.

Throughout the trailer, we see different citizens of the village transfixed on seemingly nothing, collapsing for no apparent reason, and even uncontrollably seizing. All of these horrific events are believed by the people of Essex to be caused by the elusive serpent.

The Essex Serpent begins streaming exclusively on Apple TV+ starting May 13. You can check out the official trailer down below.

MLB The Show 22 On Switch Is Inferior In All Ways But Two

It’s been a long time coming but MLB The Show is finally back on portables. The last time baseball fans were able to play the premiere baseball sim on the go was way back in 2015, which was the last year the series was released on the PlayStation Vita.

The PS Vita version was far behind the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 version by a large margin in pretty much every way but one: it was portable. Back then, it was easy to look past the graphical downgrade and the struggles of trying to play a game about hitting a small ball on a small screen because that was counter-balanced with the massive convenience of being able to play on the go.

Seven years later and, honestly, not much has changed with the Switch version. The good news is that, like the PS Vita version, the Switch version is very capable of playing MLB The Show 22 on the go without any massive issues. And also, unlike the PS Vita, the Switch version has the obvious benefit of docking in if you’re not using a Switch Lite.

The thing is, though, regardless of whether you choose to play handheld or docked, the experience is more or less the same. There’s a noticeable visual performance downgrade from not only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions, but even last-gen via the PS4 as well. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone considering, you know, the Switch is a last-gen console.

Fortnite v20.20 Hotfix Unvaults LMG & Kickstarts the Battle for Rocky Reels

Epic Games has today released the Fortnite v20.20 hotfix update for its Battle Royale mode. The latest patch sees the unvaulting of the Light Machine Gun into the battle royale. The fight against the IO has also now been moved from Coney Crossroads to Rocky Reels.

In terms of the season’s story, the Resistance fighting against the IO forces for the Coney Crossroads has won the battle. Now the battle is focused on Rocky Reels instead of Coney Crossroads; hence, drop into this location and help the Resistance push the IO forces back.

The Fortnite 20.20 April 26 hotfix also brings back the popular Light Machine Gun that comes with a relatively fast firing rate and 60-round magazine.

Similar to the other Fortnite weapons, the LMG comes in five rarities — Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary and it spawns on the ground and in Chests, Rare Chests, Supply Drops, and sharks.

However, it should be noted that the LMG is not included in competitive playlists but is subject to an evaluation period.

After a trial period that allowed Fortnite players to get their hands on the Boogie Bomb and Rift-To-Go, they’ll now be able to contribute bars to their preferred choice. The first item to reach 100% funding will immediately be unvaulted into the game.

It’s worth noting that the winner of the Boogie Bomb vs. Rift-To-Go vote will not be immediately unvaulted in competitive playlists.

Finally, the Fortnite 20.20 battle royale hotfix adds the funding stations at Coney Crossroads for an Armored Battle Bus and set of Turrets after the Resistance won the battle against IO forces.

Techland has officially confirmed that a much-requested feature will be added soon to its undead parkour-’em-up survival sequel, Dying Light 2. That’s right, New Game+ will be launching tomorrow across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on Apr. 27, and will come by way of a new patch.

The Polish studio shared the news via a freshly-cut “At The Fish Eye” video featuring the game’s producer Julia Szynkaruk, which you can check out in full down below:

Additionally, players will be able to make different story choices on their second time around and will potentially even get a new ending. That being said, some of the story-related content will still need to be unlocked, like the paraglider or the grappling hook, for example.

On top of the new addition of a NG+ mode, Update 1.3.0 will also bring an increase to the spawn rate of Special Infected, which will in turn increase the chances of finding legendary loot. Meanwhile, new parkour challenges have also been introduced, which add new platinum medals as well.

‘Upsets’ at Masters Reykjavík Highlight Valorant’s Arrival as a Truly Global Esport

Earlier this month, Riot Games returned to Iceland’s capital, Reykjavík, as a venue for its inaugural LAN esports event of the year, Valorant Masters Stage 1. The competition saw 12 teams from around the globe showdown in a double-elimination tournament to crown a winner and earn the lion’s share of a $650,000 prize pool.

Yesterday evening, during a grand final watched by over 1 million people, North America’s Optic Gaming beat out Brazil’s Loud to earn that accolade, becoming the second team from the region to lift the trophy after last year’s winner, Sentinels. Along with EMEA (Europe, Turkey, and CIS), the two regions are widely considered the dominant forces in global Valorant, as they have been for many years in other tactical shooters such as Counter-Strike: GO.

Even in the case of other esports beyond this particular genre, it’s also fairly normal for one, or a select few, regions to consistently produce the game’s very best teams — think Korea in the case of Overwatch, China in MOBA games like DOTA 2 and League of Legends, etc.

At a glance, then, the eventual winning of Masters Reykjavík by a North American team doesn’t come as much of a surprise, and yet the real storyline of the event couldn’t be a more polar opposite. In fact, the major takeaway is that Valorant might be one of the world’s most global esports, with once thought of “minor regions” capable of beating teams representing the biggest esports organizations in the world.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron For Nintendo Switch Will Release in 2022

Today El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron creator Takeyasu Sawaki released a video announcing new information about the Nintendo Switch port of the game.

First of all, we hear that the game is coming to Nintendo’s console within 2022. At the moment we don’t have a more precise release date.

We also get the introduction of the developer handling the port, Shinjuku-based studio Aqualead, directly from its CEO Hiroyuki Hayashihara.

It’s not a well-known game within the gaming industry because the company works mostly on a support role on the engine side for games by other studios. That being said, this gives them an edge because El Shaddai is developed with an old engine that is no longer supported and has no current libraries.

You can check out the video below.

If you’re unfamiliar with El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, it was originally released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2011. Here’s an official description:

This new launch trailer confirms that Bangalore’s long-lost brother, Jackson, has returned as the new Legend, Newcastle. Also, another Stories From the Outlands will be coming on April 28 to keep the rollout moving.

This cinematic trailer doesn’t show any gameplay, but it teases plenty of Newcastle’s potential abilities. He plants down several different types of shields during the video — one of which is a giant energy shield that could be his Ultimate.

Newcastle also drags an ally back after they’ve been knocked down by the giant monster attacking Storm Point and the other Legends, which may be a hint at his Passive. Being able to drag allies back into cover to revive them would be extremely useful if he could do so with the aid of a shield.

You can check out the launch trailer for Apex Legends Season 13: Savior below to see all of the cinematic action that leads to the reveal.

Dune: Spice Wars Turned Me into a Megalomaniac Spice Linchpin (Hands-On Preview)

I’m not usually one to go for the Domination victory in Civilization. I’m peaceful, I hate conflict, I love science and knowledge (in Civilization, not in real life ew), and I’ve always opted to go for the diplomatic route in Civ while mesmerizing my opponents with my state’s amazing technological advances. War is expensive, y’know? So much bloodshed. So much needless loss of life. And it just takes way too long and costs too damn much.

Then, everything changed when Dune: Spice Wars entered my life.

I’ve spent the bulk of my weekend playing an early access build of Dune: Spice Wars and, perhaps unsurprisingly, as someone who loves 4X strategy games, I was obsessed. Before we get into the weeds, here’s the setup. Dune: Spice Wars is being developed by Shiro Games, who also made Northgard, which is another strategy game in which you manage a clan, build your civilization, and fend off enemies.

Both games feel remarkably similar to each other, and they also bear some similarities with the 4X strategy king, Civilization. The key difference is that there are no turns in Dune: Spice Wars; every player makes their moves at the same time while the days tick away, which means that you can react to conflict immediately and change your course of action at the drop of a dime.

This makes for a much more fast-paced experience, and also serves as the main reason why I’ve started to gravitate towards a more aggressive approach when dealing with opposing factions. Each game starts off with the same objective: claim a region with spice in it. After dispatching your troops to a region, you can attack and take over the settlement there, giving you full control of whatever resources come with it.

Valheim Surpasses 10 Million Copies Sold; New Mistlands Biome & Enemy Types Still to Come

Valheim was probably the biggest early access release of 2021, and Coffee Stain and Iron Gate Studio have just announced that the game has officially reached 10 million copies sold. It’s not surprising, as the game has received glowing reviews on Steam, and its rating has been sitting at Overwhelmingly Positive this entire time.

Announced via a press release, the developers have also promised that there’s more Valheim content to look forward to this year, as its early access journey continues:

‘As the development of the next major content update continues, fans of the survival genre can look forward to more Valheim goodness coming this year, including a brand-new biome to explore, enemies to fight and new weapons to craft. The Iron Gate team has also been updating players via a steady stream of Steam community posts that contain updates on Mistlands’ development, as well as sneak peeks at what the developers are currently working on.
“We never imagined Valheim would become so big, not even in our wildest dreams, and the past year flew by faster than we anticipated.” said Richard Svensson, CEO of Iron Gate Studio. “Our team has doubled since launch and knowing Valheim is enjoyed by millions of players around the world honours and humbles us at the same time. Our ambitions for the game have never been stronger and the development of Mistlands is well underway – we can’t wait to bring this new mysterious biome to the game.”’

The Mistlands biome is technically already in the game, though players will find it barren with cobwebs and hints with regards to what’s to come.

Valheim is now available on PC.

Diablo Immortal Release Date Locked in For This Summer; PC Version Confirmed

First announced to a cold reception back in 2018, Blizzard Entertainment’s popular Diablo series is making the jump to mobile phones with a spin-off called Immortal. Earlier today the publisher finally locked in a June 2 release date for Android and iOS platforms during a digital event hosted by game director Wyatt Cheng and Adam Fletcher, senior manager of community development.

In a move that is likely to please longtime fans of the franchise, and one that is in stark contrast to its initial plans for the game, the publisher also confirmed that Diablo Immortal will receive a PC version. Further, there will be cross-play functionality between the two.

For those who missed the event, which also offered a detailed look at Diablo Immortal with all-new gameplay footage, you can check out the showcase below.

As alluded to above, Diablo Immortal’s initial announcement at Blizzcon 2018 was met with disdain from fans who had expected the reveal of a new mainline experience titled Diablo 4. What they instead got was a mobile spin-off without any confirmation of a new mainline title, and one rather patronizing response to a fan question that has since gone down as a historic PR blunder on the part of Blizzard.

Valorant Masters Reykjavík 2022 Viewership Numbers Exceeded 1 Million

Riot Games’ latest Valorant esports event recorded concurrent viewership numbers exceeding one million yesterday evening during its grand final. The best of five series pitted North American team Optic Gaming versus Brazillian team Loud, with the former eventually winning in a 3-0 fashion.

Optic took home the lion’s share of a $650,000 prize pool and became the second team to lift the Masters Reykjavík trophy after Sentinels had done so for the very first time last year.

The viewership numbers are a actually down from last year, though only slightly. According to Escharts the comparison is as follows:

  • Masters Reykjavík 2021 – 1 085 850
  • Masters Reykjavík 2022 – 1 065 887

It’s worth keeping in mind, however, that last year’s event was given a major boost by the fact that it was Valorant’s first ever LAN event, and the grand final (which recorded the above figure) was between two hugely popular esports organizations in Sentinels and Fnatic. Optic and Loud, by comparison, don’t command quite the same number of fans and interest — though that might change after this recent run.

In any case, Valorant’s esports scene is still looking healthy for the time being, and as new communities of fans are built for newcomer organizations such as Optic and Loud (the former at least as it relates to Valorant) we should start to see numbers creep up consistently.

In related news, you can check out new information on Valorant’s latest weapon skin bundle, the RGX-11z Pro 2 here, and a full reveal of its latest Agent, Fade.
