New Blue Lock PV Introduces Us to Speedster Hyoma Chigiri

2 years 1 month ago

We still don’t have a set release date for the upcoming Blue Lock anime adaptation past a 2022 release window, but Bandai Namco certainly hasn’t let up with all the new trailers and PVs. We’ve just gotten a new PV for the show, this time showing off another character.

You can check out the trailer down below:

This PV introduces us to Hyoma Chigiri, the long-haired soccer player known for his speed on the field. He’s one of the main characters we’ll meet on Team Z, and he plays alongside the other main faces like Yoichi Isagi and Meguru Bachira. Though he’s supposed to be one of the fastest players, the story starts off with him seemingly holding back on the field and not performing to his fullest potential.

The Blue Lock anime adaptation is set to start airing this year, and we’ll keep you updated as more info comes our way.

Final Fantasy XIV Director Naoki Yoshida’s Name Officially Given to an Asteroid Sparking Buzz Among Fans

2 years 1 month ago

Final Fantasy XIV Director & Producer Naoki Yoshida is certainly one of the most popular developers in the world and a fan brought that admiration to the next level.

A Reddit user named Rukongai announced that they had the chain to name an asteroid, so they decided to christen it “Yoshidanaoki” to pay homage to the developer.

The claim is proven by the fact that the asteroid, which was discovered during a survey in 2006, appears in NASA’s database with its brand new name and a small blurb explaining who Naoki Yoshida is.

This caused considerable buzz especially among Japanese fans, so much that today the fact was reported on Japanese national TV during the morning news showcasing social media trends from the day before, as shown before In a recording from TBS by Twitter user 中途半端.

The video reports Yoshida-san’s reaction, who responded with his usual humor, mentioning that he hopes the asteroid named after him won’t enter a collision orbit with Earth, as he would not want to become the enemy of all living things on the planet.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes Gets New Screenshots, Art, & Gameplay & Story Details

2 years 1 month ago

Today Koei Tecmo revealed new images and gameplay details of its upcoming Musou-like action JRPG Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.

Besides taking a look at well-known characters whom we already saw in today’s trailer, we hear more about the story.

The story starts in the Imperial Year 1179, when a young mercenary clashes against the “Ashen Demon” of Jeralt’s Mercenaries. The young mercenary is defeated by the overwhelming strength of the mercenary and is ready to die.

Yet, suddenly, a voice echoes from somewhere and a mysterious power saves the young mercenary. The voice belongs to a mysterious being called “Larva.”

The young mercenary decides to travel from place to place training to one day defeat the Ashen Demon. During his travels, they meet a group of students from a military academy attacked by bandits. This chance encounter that should have never happened will shake up the history of Fódlan.

The gameplay loop is divided into three parts. The first part lets you freely visit the outpost, interact with friends, and upgrade your army. You can train the hero and allies, deepen ties, and enjoy conversations as part of activities like helping with certain tasks or eating together.

The second part is a strategic part that prompts you to pursue the targets of each episode and play on the map. You can also meet merchants, find extra quests or survey points where you can earn rewards.

The third part is the battles, which are fought in real-time in Musou-style. You have partners that can help you in battle and fight powerful magical beasts.

FFXIV: Newfound Adventure Is at Its Best When the Stakes are Low

2 years 1 month ago

The beautiful thing about Final Fantasy XIV’s content roadmap and story structure is that whenever new quests get added, the game takes the time to welcome you back into the fold. We’re only in the first paragraph and I’m already getting sappy here, but returning to FFXIV after an extended period of time does feel like home. That feeling is even more prevalent now, especially since the end of the Endwalker expansion, which saw the Scions going their separate ways and looking for their own adventures.

Patch 6.1, titled Newfound Adventure, starts up the main story again with a scene of the Warrior of Light paying Tataru a visit back in the Rising Stones. The energy here is largely laidback and relaxed, with the pair reminiscing about their other friends, and Tataru prattles on about her sewing while the Warrior of Light eventually drifts off and starts napping. This goes on for about five minutes, which is about an eternity in MMO World.

If this scene sounds slow and extremely inconsequential and unimportant and irrelevant to, well, anything, that’s because it is. In any other game, this would be a huge knock against it, but in Final Fantasy XIV, it completely works.

Having spent nearly eight years with these characters and watching them put a stop to world-ending threat after world-ending threat in each expansion, FFXIV has completely earned its quiet moments. The Scions came back from space at the end of Endwalker after putting a stop to another devastating world-ending plan, and they’ve quite literally achieved world peace in Eorzea. If the game wants to put me through a five-minute cutscene of nothing but Tataru talking about fashion and money, they’ve earned the right to do so dammit.

American Truck Simulator Sets Course for Montana in New Expansion

2 years 1 month ago

If you are a fan of the trucking games from SCS Software, then you would be familiar with both Euro Truck Simulator and American Truck Simulator. Aside from delivering pretty awesome sim experiences, the developers are also hard at work at creating new content, at least for the latter. In a new update, SCS Software has shared that it will be revisiting history with a new Montana expansion for American Truck Simulator.

That history comes from the studio’s work on another series called 18 Wheels of Steel. One of the locations that appeared in the series was the state of Montana, and it is about time to bring it back.

“With this sort of history, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to revisit some of these iconic areas in our upcoming DLC,” SCS shared.

Weird West Kicks Off New Community Event Alongside Roadmap Reveal

2 years 1 month ago

Devolver Digital is not a stranger to interesting ideas and premises, and with WolfEye Studios, the pair delivered an immersive sim that flipped the old Wild West on its head with a healthy dash of strangeness in Weird West. Now, players will have more to look forward to with a new community event happening, together with a look at the upcoming roadmap for Weird West.

As the trailer reveals, the first of many community events to come is The Plague, which will see the undead rise up in more numbers than before. Players will have to do whatever it takes to quell the horde, and that means plenty of bullets and blood before everything is settled.

The official description for the event reads:

Reports are rolling in from across the Weird West of a plague of undead rising from the grave! Worse, a terrible sickness seems to follow in their wake. Stay sharp, travelers.

The undead is not all that is coming to Weird West. The roadmap also shows that a new content pack and something called Nimpossible Mode are on their way. This will be followed by the Caged Ones event, and the arrival of mods. Whether that means actual mods for the game or in-game mods for equipment remains to be seen.

Either way, it seems like players will have more reason to spend more time in Weird West, if not for the excellent setting and storytelling.

Now That Chrono Cross Has a Remaster, It’s Time for Chrono Trigger in HD-2D

2 years 1 month ago

Fans of the Chrono series rejoiced when Square Enix announced Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, which was released last week. This remaster contains two of the three games in the series: Chrono Cross and Radical Dreamers, the two follow-up games to the beloved classic Chrono Trigger.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition is a welcome surprise; both of the included games have been pretty inaccessible to play since their original releases. Chrono Cross was only released on the original PlayStation, and Radical Dreamers was only released in Japan on the Super Famicom’s Satellaview peripheral.

This is the first time either game has seen a re-release in over 20 years, opening the door for new players to enjoy them. They aren’t just straight ports, either—Square Enix polished up the character models and illustrations as well as added quality-of-life improvements such as auto-save, 2x speed mode, auto-battle, and more. It’s a great way to play them in this day and age.

Though I very much appreciate being able to play these games on modern platforms with their various improvements, there’s one very important piece missing: the inclusion of Chrono Trigger, the game that started the series altogether.

Latest Valorant Skin Bundle Has a Unique Animation After Each Kill

2 years 1 month ago

Nobody does weapon skins quite like Riot Games for its popular tactical shooter Valorant, and as is typical a new bundle has been teased in tandem with this week’s update. Called Doodle Buds, the theme this time around is centered around a unique kill animation that adds color to drawings etched onto each weapon.

For every kill you manage to land in a round, the pictures on your weapon become colored. You can see a demonstration in the string of Tweets from Valorant’s official channel below.

There’s no word yet on the cost of the bundle, but as you can see in the image above it features a Phantom, Martial, Stinger, Shorty, and Ares. If we had to guess, this won’t be as expensive as premium skinlines that feature bespoke kill SFX and custom designs that differ from the standard look of each weapon. We’ll keep you posted as to when we learn more, though.

In other recent Valorant news, you can check out the leaked images of the game’s anticipated mobile project, which appears to have entered a trial phase over in China.

Playtest for Roguelike Deckbuilding Minigolf Game Golfie Launches Today

2 years 1 month ago

Earlier today, Danish developer Triheart Studio revealed that Golfie, their roguelike deckbuilding minigolf game, would be launching its first official public playtest on Steam and that it’ll run from April 12-18. The title is a unique take on minigolf, as players must use cards with an array of unique abilities in order to shoot the ball.

Thanks to this mechanic, there’s a lot of strategy involved in the game, requiring players to build and plan their decks according to each course. You can check out a brief description of Golfie, as well as a quote from co-founder Sandra Lynggaard Fagerli, right down below.

Golfie is a unique take on minigolf in which players use cards with fun abilities to take their shots, resulting in a game which adds the strategic planning of deckbuilding to the tactical play of mini golf.

Starting with a collection of 10 shot cards, players attempt runs of 18 procedurally generated holes across four distinct biomes, using coins, gems, vending machines and bonuses to modify their deck. These cards can be drawn and their effects applied to standard shots to create an almost infinite number of combinations ways to hit the ball.

Card effects in Golfie can vary from simply increasing the distance or elevation of a standard shot to applying a whole host of unique and imaginative abilities which can all be combined to dazzling effect.

“Whilst it may seem an unusual clash of genres, deckbuilding and mini golf actually perfectly complement each other,” said Fagerli. “When we first toyed with a prototype, it was immediately apparent that we had something very special and very playable on our hands – and building upon that core idea every day has been a genuine joy.”

New Action-Adventure IP, Hell is Us, Announced for PC & Consoles

2 years 1 month ago

Earlier today, developer Rogue Factor and publisher Nacon announced a brand-new action-adventure IP for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC titled Hell is Us.

The game’s announcement came by way of a cryptic trailer that you can check out for yourself down below. Just a heads up, though: the video is age-restricted so you may need to sign in to Youtube before you can watch it.

From what we can gather, the mysterious project is set to be a third-person action-adventure game where you must battle your way through a bunch of supernatural monsters, known as The Calamity, in an alternate world that has been decimated by civil war.

Furthermore, you’ll also be spending much of your time exploring and piecing together fragments of lore in a bid to understand what’s happened to this strange new world.

Interestingly, development will be spearheaded by Jonathan Jacques-Belletête who previously worked on 2011’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution and 2016’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided as Art Director. Pretty impressive résumé, huh?

New Valorant Patch 4.07 Brings a Small Nerf to Bulldog & Stinger

2 years 1 month ago

After having delayed its normal two-week update cadence, Valorant’s latest patch is finally here this week, but it turns out that it’s only a small one. Patch 4.07 makes a host of minor changes and bug fixes; perhaps the most notable update is a nerf to the Bulldog and Stinger which reduces the speed with which ADS accuracy is introduced. You can read the full notes below.

Server Updates

  • Added a new set of servers in Latin America, which should help with latency in that region
    • Scheduled to turn on not long after 4.07 is live!

Weapon Updates

  • Bulldog and Stinger now delay firing inputs while bringing up the weapon to aim down sights (ADS)
    • Prevents you from getting burst mode accuracy improvements before they finish raising your weapon.
  • Adds a slight cost to the decision to switch to burst firing mid-combat. You can still begin firing immediately while switching back to full auto/hip fire mode.
  • Ability-based weapons* can now also be input-queued to equip after the current action
    • *This includes: Chamber guns and ultimates for Neon, Jett, and Raze

Store Updates

  • Load times for the VP purchase page should now load in a matter of seconds (previously, it would take more than thirty seconds in some instances)

Social Updates

Added new detections for different AFK-like behaviors in rotating game modes

Nine Sols Hands-on Preview: A Slashing Good Time

2 years 1 month ago

When one thinks of Red Candle Games, the Taiwanese developers, the horror genre comes to mind, especially with the critical reception of its previous projects: Devotion and Detention. However, just like how those games burst onto the scene, the studio has been hard at work creating their next big thing in the form of Nine Sols. An action-platformer at its heart, it appears the genre switch has not dented the quality coming from the studio.

From a visual standpoint, the game is brought to life excellently, with an illustrative style full of vibrant color and character. From the various characters, conversations, to the environments that houses the platforming and combat sections, the presentation of Nine Sols is beautiful both in motion and in stillness.

Legendary Visual Novel Mahoutsukai no Yoru by Type-Moon for PS4 & Switch Coming in December with English Language

2 years 1 month ago

Today Type-Moon announced the release window of the PS4 and Nintendo Switch version of the legendary visual novel Mahoutsukai no Yoru, which was announced a few months ago.

We learn that it’ll launch in December 2022, but the most relevant surprise is likely that it won’t just include Japanese text, but also English and Chinese (traditional and simplified).

This is rather massive news for western Type-Moon fans, that don’t usually get much in terms of support.

The extended language support is likely thanks to the fact that the release will be made in collaboration with Aniplex.

Mahoutsukai no Yoru, which translates as “The night of the witches” (elaborated in the official subtitle “Witch on the Holy Night”) is a visual novel released in 2012 by Type-Moon, known for creating the ultra-popular Fate series.

It was written by Kinoko Nasu, originally as an unreleased novel reportedly inspired by the first episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

This new release will include a full voice track (obviously in Japanese) and full HD visuals.

Speaking of the voice track, the main cast has been announced as follows:

  • Aoko Aozaki: Haruka Tomatsu
  • Soujuurou Shizuki: Yusuke Kobayashi
  • Alice Kuonji: Kana Hanazawa
  • Kojika Kumari: Chika Anzai
  • Housuke Kinomi: Shohei Kajikawa
  • Tobimaru Tsukiji: Toshinari Fukamachi

The House of the Dead: Remake Review – Let the Dead Rest

2 years 1 month ago

The House of the Dead: Remake on Switch

History can weigh heavy on plenty of things, and that is no exception when it comes to gaming franchises. For The House of the Dead series, it all began about 20-odd years ago in the arcades as an on-rails shooter that featured zombies, monstrosities, and fun lightgun action. Since then, however, there have been subpar efforts at transitioning it into entertainment at home, and with The House of the Dead: Remake for the Nintendo Switch, there is still no light at the end of the tunnel.

As much fun as it is blasting zombies in the head and racking up a new high score, the game developed by MegaPixel Studio tends to get in the way of itself too much, and that can be frustrating for players straight from the off. Controls are not exactly tight, performance can be hit or miss, and the repetitive nature of the gameplay will not hold your attention for long.

Made in Abyss JRPG for PS4, Switch, & PC Gets New Screenshots & Details About Game Modes & More

2 years 1 month ago

Today Spike Chunsoft announced new details and released new assets of its upcoming JRPG Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness.

We learn about two distinct game modes, one that will let players control Riko from the anime, and the other featuring a brand new story in the boots of an original cave rider.

You can read about both modes below.

HELLO ABYSS is a mode where players relive the story of the anime while learning the basic system and how to progress in the game. In this mode, players control main character Riko, an apprentice Cave Raider. Together with the human-like robot Reg, who can handle both combat and exploration, aim for the bottom of the colossal hole known as the Abyss. Event scenes in the game are fully-voiced by the anime cast.

In DEEP IN ABYSS, you control a new Cave Raider, an original character, to challenge the depths of the Abyss, and enjoy an original story supervised by series author, Akihito Tsukushi. This original character can be customized with different hairstyles and facial features. By completing missions and bringing back relics from the Abyss, players can increase their rank as a Cave Raider and challenge deeper levels of the Abyss. The Adam Project Star Will Be Percy Jackson in Disney Plus Series

2 years 1 month ago

Despite what you may be thinking, no, it’s not Ryan Reynolds. Though, that does sound like a great idea of having Ryan Reynolds play what is supposed to be a 12-year-old. Probably with a lot less swearing than his usual characters. No, Percy Jackson will actually be played by Walker Scobell who played the younger version of Ryan Reynolds’ character in The Adam Project.

Percy Jackson started as a books series written by Rick Riordan. The first book, The Lightning Thief, is turning 17 this year after releasing in 2005.

It is unknown how much the show will use the book, but Rick Riordan’s website gives this summary of the first book.

Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is on the most dangerous quest of his life. With the help of a satyr and a daughter of Athena, Percy must journey across the United States to catch a thief who has stolen the original weapon of mass destruction — Zeus’ master bolt. Along the way, he must face a host of mythological enemies determined to stop him. Most of all, he must come to terms with a father he has never known, and an Oracle that has warned him of betrayal by a friend.

As you may remember, the series already took a shot at a film franchise with The Lightning Thief in 2010 and the Sea of Monsters in 2013, but the films never found their footing and the critical response was lacking.

It is currently not known when the Disney Plus series will enter production.

In other Netflix news, season three of The Witcher was confirmed to be in production recently.

EVE Online Steers Clear of NFTs and Blockchain for Now

2 years 1 month ago

With the growing popularity of the metaverse and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), it is perhaps not surprising to see that the gaming space is dipping its toes in. Whether that sits well with players is a whole other matter, with the less than ideal reception to both Ubisoft and Square Enix‘s plans being recent examples. Now, CCP Games has come out and stated that it has no plans to add NFTs or blockchain technology to their MMORPG, EVE Online, to reassure fans.

In a statement shared via the official site, CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar reiterated that the team has “no plans to add blockchain technology into EVE Online’s global server Tranquility for the foreseeable future.” Instead, the development will be focusing on “building exciting new opportunities on top of the robust foundation that has been laid over the past two decades.”

Hyperdimension Neptunia’s Vert Represents the Charm of Xbox With New Figure by Broccoli

2 years 1 month ago

The Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise is getting a brand new figure by Broccoli, portraying Vert, the Goddess of Gamindustri representing Xbox.

She’s currently available for pre-orders at Ami Ami for 16,830 yen, which translates approximately into $134.

Her release window is December 2022, so the lead time isn’t as crazy as with some other figures, which is always nice to see.

The scale is a fairly modest 1/8, which means that she’s just 170 mm tall. The prototype is sculpted by Chizuru and painted by Maimocchi of Tsuru no Yukata, while the pose design is by Matsu Uni.

Latest Nintendo Switch Sports Trailer Brings the Thrill of Sports to Life

2 years 1 month ago

The latest trailer for the upcoming game Nintendo Switch Sports brings the thrill of different sports to life. It features a young girl who imagines herself to be on real-life pitches and courts as she faces off in sports like soccer, tennis, and more against her family.

In all, the trailer features each of the sports that will be available to play in Nintendo Switch Sports: soccer, volleyball, bowling, tennis, badminton, and chambara. For each sport, we see the young girl playing in these real sports settings, but a giant screen with the video game is set up in front of her. It then flashes to where she really is, which is in her living room playing with her family.

It’s meant to show how playing the game can make you feel like you are truly playing the sport on a real-life professional court or field, especially when making use of the Joy-Con leg strap for realistic motion controls. The theme of the trailer is “Run This House,” demonstrating the competitive nature of challenging family and friends.

You can watch this latest trailer for Nintendo Switch Sports below. It’s pretty awesome to see how each of the in-game sports translates to a real-life setting, and the competition against family members is very reminiscent of the Wii Sports days.

Halo: Master Chief Collection Adds Flood Firefight and Campaign Crossplay

2 years 1 month ago

A new update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection went live today and adds a “new” Firefight mode alongside other additions and changes for the almost eight-year-old package of games.

The biggest addition in the update is the fan-favorite FloodFight Firefight mode for Halo 3: ODST, which added the Flood enemy to the wave-based cooperative mode. 343 Industries said that the Flood received new upgrades in this returning mode, such as the little parasites being accompanied by a dense fog and the ability to take over vehicles and their weapons.

The Flood also received three new forms, and can infect or resurrect AI companions. The studio has added new “boons” that includes “weapon racks containing assault rifles and battle rifles” across Firefight missions to combat the new enemy.

The update also brings campaign crossplay for Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST, so players across PC and Xbox consoles can now play the cooperative campaign together alongside UI improvements, Halo 4 campaign weapon customization, 51 new multiplayer medals in Halo 3, exclusive campaign skulls returning for several games, and more. Check out the rest of additions in the Halo Waypoint blog post.

343 Industries said it would continue the Halo: The Master Chief Collection with plans to add mod support for every game in the collection, more campaign collectibles, and more updates throughout the year since the game has moved on from a seasonal schedule for content.
