Activision Blizzard Shareholders Approve Acquisition by Microsoft With “Overwhelming” Majority

Today Activision Blizzard announced via press release that the vote among shareholders to approve the acquisition by Microsoft has concluded.

During a special meeting hosted for the purpose, shareholders holding 98% of the company’s shares voted in favor of the acquisition proposal.

CEO Bobby Kotick accompanied the announcement with a comment, calling the support for the deal “overwhelming.”

“Today’s overwhelmingly supportive vote by our stockholders confirms our shared belief that, combined with Microsoft, we will be even better positioned to create great value for our players, even greater opportunities for our employees, and to continue our focus on becoming an inspiring example of a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive workplace.”

The proposed deal, which was announced in January and took the gaming industry and the investor world by storm, involves Microsoft offering shareholders $95.00 per share (against the current price of $76.92 per share) in an all-cash transaction.

While closing conditions and the completion of regulatory review are still pending, so the acquisition has not completely gone through yet, this is a significant milestone toward that end.

Microsoft expects to close the acquisition within its next fiscal year, which will begin July 2022 and end on June 30, 2023.

TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge Co-Op Is a Shell of a Good Time (Hands-On Preview)

Like many 90s babies, TMNT: Turtles in Time played a huge role in the foundation of my love for gaming. Despite rarely knowing what I was doing, there were so many weekends I found myself renting the beat ’em up from Blockbuster so that my friends and I could take on the Foot clan and eat some za.

So when TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge was announced at the PlayStation Indies event back in February, it went without saying that my anticipation for the upcoming title was sky-high. While attending PAX East last week, I got to put the game to the test, experiencing all it had to offer regarding its new co-op and gameplay features.

From the get-go, I felt an instant wave of nostalgia wash over me when playing TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge. The entire ambiance brought me back to when I was a kid, as the music, combat, and pixelated art were almost identical. The game does a great job at capturing the essence of what TMNT: Turtles in Time had going for it.

Now, that isn’t to say that TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge doesn’t have some impressive visual improvements. Despite still featuring pixel art environments, the detail that’s gone into the artwork can’t be overstated.

Reveal Date Announced for Warcraft Mobile Game

While this is simply just an announcement of a date for a future date announcement, it is still one step closer to Warcraft’s Mobile Game. Last month the full reveal was said to be coming in May, we know now that we won’t have to wait all that long. According to the newly created “Livestream Reveal” site, there will be a broadcast on May 3 at 10:00 am PST/1:00 pm EST giving all the details that fans are hungry to learn.

Seeing as this will be a Warcraft game created specifically for mobile platforms, it promises to be something big.

The last World of Warcraft expansion was Shadowlands that released in Nov. 2020. This is the proper year for Dragonflight to release, as Blizzard has been consistently putting out a new World of Warcraft expansion every two years since Wrath of the Lich King in 2008.

World of Warcraft Classic has recently added the first expansion, Burning Crusade and is steadily making progress up through the release history of the MMORPG that has been going since 2004.

When Does the Next WoW Expansion: World of Warcraft for Mobile Come Out?

After the reveal of Dragonflight earlier this month, nothing more has been announced. It was said in the original unveiling that an alpha test is upcoming, so there it a chance of more detail on that on the May 3 Livestream Reveal.

4 Reasons My Dress-Up Darling Is More Than Just a Fan Service Anime

Fan service has always been the bane of my existence when it comes to anime, as the sheer amount of unnecessary sexualization that is added in scenes has ruined shows like Food Wars and Seven Deadly Sins for me. As such, I was hesitant when I heard about My Dress-Up Darling.

From the number of screenshots that had been posted throughout social media in its first season, My Dress-Up Darling had a fair amount of fan service scenes. However, with every one of those came a wave of support for the show, detailing how it was much more than just a fan service anime.

And after binging all 12 episodes in one sitting, I couldn’t agree more. Here are four reasons that My Dress-Up Darling is more than just a fan service anime.

It’s about that time again — Respawn is releasing trailer after trailer to get fans excited for the upcoming season. This Stories From the Outlands video gives us a look at the true origins of the upcoming Season 13 Legend, Newcastle.

This backstory shows us that Jackson Williams, Bangalore’s brother, wasn’t always Newcastle. In fact, Jackson only takes on the persona when the real Newcastle dies after his debts catch up with him.

Jackson is now joining the Apex Games to earn money and pay off that debt to protect his newfound family and others around him. We see in the launch trailer that he reunites with Bangalore as she finds out his true identity under the visor, so the dialogue between the two in Season 13: Saviors should be interesting, to say the least.

Poppy Playtime Is Getting Its Own Horror Film Adaptation

Making a good horror film is all about coming up with a great monster; and the terrific thing about video games, is that there’re a wealth of creepy monstrosities to choose from. Right now, however, it looks like Hollywood has set its sights set on the animatronic toothy maw of Poppy Playtime for its next film adaptation.

That’s right, according to a recent report from Deadline, Studio71 has partnered with Poppy Playtime developer MOB Games to develop and produce the filmic adaptation of the video game source material. Internally, the film studio has allegedly fast-tracked the project to bring the horror film to fruition, and are planning to turn the popular property into a movie franchise.

Furthermore, talks are apparently underway to bring Roy Lee on board as a producer. Of course, Lee is an acclaimed horror producer whose resume is filled to the brim with creepy flicks like Doctor Sleep, It, The Grudge, The Ring, The Eye, and The Woman In Black to name but a few.

“We never could have imagined that this game would become as popular as it is with such an enormous and ever-growing legion of fans,” said Mob Games’ President & CEO, Zach Belanger. “We are so excited to deliver the next chapter of our game and beyond excited to work with Studio71 to transform Poppy into a feature film. It’s going to be a great ride!”

Latest Call of Duty: Warzone Season Three Patch Ushers in New Mode, Weapon Changes and More

With the third season of Call of Duty: Warzone now underway, players have much to get through before the arrival of Operation Monarch in May, when Godzilla and King Kong will face off against each other in Caldera. However, before all that mayhem, there are some new and significant changes being made to the game for season three, and the latest patch notes for Call of Duty: Warzone reveal what players need to know.

There is the return of fan-favorite Iron Trials game mode for the new map, and there is a new Gulag as well as a new location called the Dig Site being added to Caldera. Of course, a new battle pass has been activated for players to chase, alongside two new Vanguard weapons in the form of the M1916 marksman rifle and the Nikita AVT assault rifle. A new Operator has also arrived in the form of Mateo Hernandez. Players who purchased the battle pass will get this new addition with two Legendary Operator Skins, the all-black Chingon outfit and the blue and orange Madcap skin.

The biggest change might just be the adjustments Raven Software has made to sniper rifles with this new Call of Duty: Warzone patch for season three. Several sniper rifles have had their effective one-shot-kill range reduced, but the likes of the HDR and 3-Line Rifle can still get the job done.

As for the playlist that will go live in the coming weeks, the first week will see Quads in Iron Trials, a 50 vs 50 Clash, Battle Royale in the Solos, Duos, Trios, and Quads variety, as well as Resurgence for the same variations. The upcoming weeks are also detailed in the infographic below:

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen Soundtrack Now Available for Purchase on Apple Music

The Witch Queen is the latest expansion that’s just been released for Destiny 2 this year, and it continues to keep the player base satisfied in terms of new content to check out, events to farm, and plenty of new gear to farm. It also boasts a pretty impressive soundtrack.

For all the music enthusiasts and Destiny 2 fans out there, you’ll be pleased to know that the Witch Queen soundtrack is now available for purchase on Apple Music. It doesn’t seem to be available for streaming on any of the popular music platforms, but if you’re an AM user, you can buy the soundtrack off the platform and automatically add it to your Apple Music library for $9.99.

If you’re not an Apple Music user, the digital soundtrack is also available on the Bungie store if you’d prefer to go that route.

Since Bungie separated from Activision to become an independent studio, Destiny 2 has become a free-to-play game, allowing more people to check out the game itself with a low barrier to entry. The new expansions still need to be purchased and there’s also a paid Season Pass that allows players to earn more rewards by playing, but it’s still a pretty decent free-to-play experience overall.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC and consoles.

Disney Dreamlight Valley Announced For Consoles, Mac, & PC, Coming Later This Year

Earlier today on Twitter, Disney revealed a brand-new project in the video game space that is titled Disney Dreamlight Valley. The game is a free-to-play life simulator that is set to launch later this year. Along with the tweet, there was a reveal trailer that showed off just some of what their upcoming title has to offer.

To kick off the trailer we get a look at a few iconic Disney locations like Rapunzel’s Tower, Cinderella’s Castle, and more. We also see characters like Buzz Lightyear, Ursula, and Kristoff.

There’s also a brief shot that shows off this otherwise bright and shiny world covered in darkness, clouds, and massive vines.

However, the darkness is fleeting and the bright cheery nature of Disney shines through as your character enters the world. In the trailer we see this character running around different locations and mining with a pickaxe. We also see them walking with Lion King characters and taking selfies with characters from Frozen.

It also looks like gardening, fishing, and cooking will included as a part of Disney Dreamlight Valley. In the trailer we see Wall-E helping out by handing your character plants, Goofy is just hanging out at a fishing pond, and of course, Remy is helping you cook.

To close out the trailer, we also get a look at some of the character and house customization. The house looks like it has a few levels of upgrades with changes to doors, windows, and even additional floors. The clothing and appearance options for your character also appear to be highly customizable. We see characters dressed in overalls, shorts, formal clothes, and a jacket that has a Buzz Lightyear color scheme.

Valorant Esports Needs Live Crowds to Continue Building Momentum

Valorant is popular for its fusion of precise gunplay (nudge, wink) and ‘hero abilities,’ a synergy that creates a distinct gameplay experience. Sure, the core loop might be lifted from CS:GO, but nothing really plays quite like Valorant.

As far as multiplayer games with big long-legged ambitions go, Valorant is also somewhat unusual because it was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic. This, in turn, forced Riot Games to undertake its quest to establish Valorant as the next big esport during a time when LAN events simply weren’t safe or appropriate, let alone accompanying crowds of fans in attendance — a key ingredient to creating a sense of spectacle and excitement, and a signature of esports programs throughout history.

Nearly two years on, and to Riot’s credit, Valorant and its esports scene are thriving nonetheless. The game launched to positive critical reception and has only continued to improve through post-launch support; its esports program –one of the most ambitious and fast-moving ever seen– is into a second year of full-scale operation and boasts notable viewership. Most recently, Valorant returned to Iceland for a second year running with Masters Reykevik 2022, the first of three major Valorant esports LANs.

Unfortunately, as was the case last year also, Masters Reykevik did not have a crowd in attendance due to COVID-19 restrictions. Sadly, too, positive cases amongst several players saw some teams having to compete from their hotel accommodations rather than the main stage as a quarantine measure.

Avatar 2 Official Title Announced Alongside December Release Date

Fans of the original Avatar now have an actual date they can expect Avatar 2: The Way of Water. The sequel will be hitting theaters on Dec. 16 2022 in the United States with overseas screens getting the film two days earlier on Dec. 14 2022.

While there is a new trailer for Avatar 2: The Way of Water, it will be only available to watch in the near future before showings of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which comes out May 6 US and May 4 internationally. However, it will only be exclusive for a week before being uploaded online. It is assumed it will follow the international release date, so you can expect to see the trailer up on YouTube May 11.

The brief summary on IMDb gives the story as:

Jake Sully lives with his newfound family formed on the planet of Pandora. Once a familiar threat returns to finish what was previously started, Jake must work with Neytiri and the army of the Na’vi race to protect their planet.

Ahead of the release of Avatar 2: The Way of Water will be a theatrical re-release of the first Avatar film. However, this new version will come with remastered audio and video. Unlike the staggered release(s) mentioned above, the remaster will be hitting theaters worldwide on Sept. 23.

The first Avatar releases in 2009 and it’s been a long 13 year journey to finally get to see the sequel.

These aren’t the only Avatar properties coming out soon. A video game titled Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is still set to be coming out this year from Ubisoft.

Atelier Sophie 2 1/1 Figure Costs $47,000, But You Can Also Buy a Smaller, Less Crazy Version for $187

You may have thought that the Final Fantasy VI Masterline figure priced at $11,550 was crazy, but Koei Tecmo just one-upped Square Enix in a big way with a brand new Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream figure.

The 1/1 scale figure by the 1/ One Slash brand, which is being exhibited at the fancy Shibuya PARCO mall in Tokyo starting today reproduces Sophie herself in the same pose as the cover of the game, and is actually for sale.

The most pricey option, which includes a full-fledged background, costs 6,050,000 yen (approximately $47,119) and can be pre-ordered starting today. Since she’s limited to a single unit, pre-ordering simply lets you participate in a lottery for the privilege of purchasing her.

The overall height of the figure with the background is about 210 cm.

On top of the price, you also need to pay for delivery, which will cost up to 520,000 yen (about $4,000) if you live as far as Okinawa. Tokyo dwellers are luckier as they have to pay “only” the equivalent of $2,000 to receive the figure at their doorstep. I guess if you’re willing to pay nearly $50,000 for a figure, that may be peanuts for you.

There is a second option without the background which is not limited and is slightly more affordable, costing 4,290,000 yen (approximately $33,393).

This one is a bit smaller, measuring 193 cm from the bottom to the top of the staff. The delivery date is July 2023.

The trailer’s description gives a great summary of the expansion, saying

The Zariman Ten Zero cries out into the endless darkness of space. In a post-New War Origin System, something lingers in this Void-wrecked vessel that the Tenno once called home. Top Gun: Maverick Crossover DLC Coming to Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown

With the release of Top Gun: Maverick finally approaching, looks like its collaborations with games won’t be limited to Microsoft Flight Simulator. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is getting its own as well.

The announcement was made today directly on the Japanese website of the movie, announcing that the Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown – Top Gun: Maverick Aircraft Set will be a paid DLC released in the spring.

It will include a F/A-18E Super Hornet and a F-14A Tomcat representing the movie, on top of collaboration emblems that can be used in the game and a version of the iconic “Top Gun Anthem” music rearranged by Ace Combat composer Keiki Kobayashi.

At the moment, a specific release date and pricing have not been announced.

Incidentally, the announcement erroneously mentions that Ace Combat 7 has shipped 16 million copies, but that is related to the whole series. The latest shipment announcement for the latest game is at 3 million (which is still very flattering).

Top Gun: Maverick will finally debut on May 25.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is currently available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Valorant 4.08 Patch Notes Detail Jett, Neon, & Sova Changes Ahead of Act 3’s Release

The big talking point ahead of the launch of Valorant’s Episode 4, Act 3 might be the launch of the new Agent Fade, but potentially just as game-changing are nerfs and buffs to three of the game’s current roster: Jett, Neon, and Sova. Riot Games has today detailed those changes in its full reveal of Patch 4.08 notes, which you can check out below.

JETT

The team loves what Jett has continually brought to the fight, but as the game has evolved, some of her impacts have pushed beyond what we think is healthy for the tactical promise of VALORANT. Our update to Tailwind aims to address these concerns while maintaining the aggressive site takes and awe inspiring highlight plays Jett should bring to the roster. Check out our full article on the Jett update here for a complete breakdown of our approach and the philosophies that drove this update. We expect this change to have ripple effects on the Agents around Jett and the ecosystem overall, so we’ll keep a close eye not only on Jett, but any cascading impacts on the entire roster.

Valorant Episode 4, Act 3 Is Hyped With a Typically Kickass Trailer

Riot Games is about to launch Valorant’s next chapter of content as the arrival of Episode 4, Act 3 fast approaches. As is typical, there’s a brand new trailer to hype everything that’s in the pipeline, which of course mostly revolves around the addition of a new Agent to the game’s roster, Fade.

The trailer showcases the Turkish initiator’s spooky belt of utility, which is all about revealing enemies in close proximity and then hunting them down with screaming prowlers. You can read more about Fade’s utility in our detailed article that showcases each ability here.

Elsewhere in the new Act is the anticipated RGX-11z Pro 2 weapon skin bundle, which is likely to prove just as popular as the first. This time around it includes a Phantom, Operator, and butterfly-style knife to name just a few.

Finally, Act 3 will of course bring a brand new Battle Pass of content for players to grind their way through, which we’ve also detailed in a separate article if you’re interested in exactly what’s inside.

For now, you can check out the new trailer below.

Nintendo Switch Sports Review – Resorting to the Basics

Nintendo Switch Sports on Switch

In 2006, Wii Sports cemented itself as an important piece of video game history when it was released alongside the Wii —this collection of five sports games was Nintendo’s way of showing off their newest console’s motion control tech in a way that was accessible and fun for families and players of all ages and skill ranges.

Three years later, Nintendo built on this winning concept with the game Wii Sports Resort. The sequel had a total of 24 modes across 12 different sporting events and used the Wii MotionPlus accessory to capture the most complex motion controls possible.

Now, in 2022, Nintendo Switch Sports attempts to capture the magic of those first two games in the series. Its efforts in doing so are not bad per se, but they are extremely basic and do not build upon the previous concepts in any revolutionary way.

Soul Hackers 2 for PS5, PS4, Xbox, & PC Gets New Trailer Revealing Shiisaa

Today Atlus released another of the daily trailers of its upcoming JRPG Soul Hackers 2, showing one of its demons.

This time around it’s Shiisaa, which appropriately debuted in the original Soul Hackers’ predecessor Devil Summoner. It also appeared in the latest game of the series, Shin Megami Tensei V.

As usual, the trailer also includes the daily horoscope with a ranking of signs from the luckiest to the unluckiest. Capricorn is at the top, while Libra is at the bottom of the fortune ranking. I guess it’s my lucky day for the first time ever since Atlus started releasing these trailers.

Soul Hackers 2 releases for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (Steam and Windows Store) on August 26, just one day after the Japanese launch on August 25.

Robert Pattinson Will Be Returning in The Batman 2

With the success of The Batman, especially now that it is available on streaming services, it would make sense for Warner Bros. to make the most out of it. As reported by Deadline, that is exactly what the studio is doing, with Matt Reeves returning as director for The Batman 2 while Robert Pattinson will don the cowl once more.

The news was shared by Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group head Toby Emmerich during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas, which follows some stellar results for the movie. Raking in over $760 million around the world and also garnering a viewership of 4.1 million households on HBO Max in just the first week suggests a huge appetite for the Dark Knight’s latest adventure.

“Thank you all for your tremendous support for The Batman. We couldn’t have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter,” said Reeves at the presentation.

That performance also beats out other Warner Bros. films like Suicide Squad, Dune, Wonder Woman 1984 and The Matrix Resurrections that were available day and date in both theaters and via HBO Max.

Aside from the confirmation of The Batman 2, HBO Max will also be pushing out a spinoff series that will star the Penguin, who is played by Colin Farrell. Together with Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis also starred in The Batman, which sees the caped crusader going up against the sadistic Riddler in a battle for Gotham’s soul.
