DuckTales: Remastered Is Now Available On Digital Stores Again

4 years 1 month ago

DuckTales: Remastered has returned to digital storefronts after being pulled in August 2019. The game, which remasters the 1989 NES classic Disney's DuckTales, has reappeared on Steam, Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U. You can also grab it for Xbox One, as it's part of the system's backwards compatibility catalog.

An announcement post of the game's reappearance is up on Capcom Unity, but no explanation for why it was delisted and has now reappeared is offered. "If you missed out on this colorful reimagining the first time around, now’s a great time to see what you’ve been missing out on," the post reads.

There's also no announcement of whether the game will come to current systems, but it's fair to say that Switch port begging is now back on the menu for this title, which was released in 2013.

Although the game is regarded as a classic by many, GameSpot's review of DuckTales: Remastered was less favorable. Critic Tom McShea was not a fan: "DuckTales Remastered will make you doubt happy memories from your childhood, or leave you baffled as to why people were nostalgic for such dull platforming in the first place."

Stadia Just Added A Much-Requested Feature

4 years 1 month ago

The Google Stadia website has just been updated with a feature that people have been waiting for since the system's launch--the ability to access your game capture library. The Stadia controller features a "capture" button, but until now players have not been able to share the screenshots and videos they take.

Stadia has today announced that the much-wanted feature is now live, and players can log into their accounts and access their game capture libraries to show off their best shots and videos from Stadia games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Borderlands 3.

The capture functionality of Stadia is similar to the Nintendo Switch--you can either press the button once for a screenshot or hold it down to capture the last 30 seconds of gameplay. Stadia owners with a Pro subscription are able to save up to 500 video clips and unlimited screenshots. Owners without a subscription can only save 100 clips.

Apex Legends' New Evo Shields Should Stay

4 years 1 month ago

I love Apex Legends' new Evo Shield, the first item that Respawn has added to its battle royale that isn't a weapon or weapon attachment. I hope it's permanently added to the game.

For now, the Evo Shield is limited to Deja Loot, the new mode added to Apex Legends during the System Override event. The glowing body shield begins out weaker than a common white body shield but grows more powerful as you damage enemies--ultimately maxing out just above a legendary gold body shield.

As the Evo Shield evolves, it doesn't automatically heal itself. So to take full advantage of the Evo Shield, you need to carry extra shield cells and batteries to keep the armor fully charged. If you don't want to make the climb yourself, you can loot Evo Shields off of other players as individual Evo Shields will maintain their level even after their users have fallen.

Steam's Deals Are Fantastic This Week: Yakuza Bundle, Visual Novels, And More

4 years 1 month ago

Steam has kicked off a new sale this week highlighting Sonic publisher Sega, and while the blue blur isn't featured in this particular sale, many of the company's best games are. The sale focuses specifically on Sega's Japanese-developed PC games, though there are a couple of Western-made titles as well. If you've wanted to get into the Yakuza series, then now is the perfect time. Sega's Best of Japan sale runs through March 10, but there are a ton of other deals and discounts on Steam for a wide variety of games, including the best shooters, survival games, and visual novels.

Yakuza 0 is $5, Yakuza Kiwami is $10, and Yakuza Kiwami 2 is $15--however, you can grab them all in a bundle for $27. Yakuza 0 tells the story of Kazuma Kiryu before the events of the first Yakuza game. Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2, on the other hand, are remakes of the first two in the series--the word "kiwami" translates to ultimate or extreme, meaning these are the definitive versions. All three games received great 8/10 scores in their respective reviews.

There's A Tamagotchi In Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare's New Update

4 years 1 month ago

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is known for its cosmetic items, usually in the form of militaristic or cool-looking skins for your operators and their gear. Infinity Ward has now introduced a more playful item, which imitates the Tamagotchi fad of the late '90s.

The "Tomogunchi" is available from the in-game item shop for 1,000 CoD Points. The bundle includes a charm, emblem, calling card, sticker, and spray. The real star of the bundle is the Tomogunchi toy itself, which is represented as a wristwatch-like item. The tweet suggests that you can check on your little virtual pet, feed it, monitor its mood, and help it evolve.

Modern Warfare has been careful not to sell game-changing items through its shop, so it's doubtful the Tomogunchi will do anything to help up your game. In fact, if you get too distracted with checking on your pet it might actually be a detriment to the firefights around you. A guide on the Activision blog looks as if the Tomogunchi responds to your in-game play, making it something of a real-time performance tracker.

Apex Legends' New Update Has A Very Big File Size

4 years 1 month ago

If you're an Apex Legends fan, you might want to clear some space on your hard drive, because the game's new 6.2 patch is a hefty one. Coming in at 32.5 GB on PC, 33 GB on Xbox One, and 18.5 GB on PS4, it's one of the bigger game updates in recent memory. According to the patch announcement, this large size is intended to allow developer Respawn to ensure that future patches are smaller.

"As an FYI, players will notice this patch size is larger than most," Respawn explained in a tweet. "This was done so that future patch sizes will be significantly smaller than what they've traditionally been."

This event introduces a new limited-time mode called Déjà Loot, where all the loot spawns in the same location for the duration of the event, with the plane path and circle locations will shift on a daily basis. According to developer Respawn, this is intended to reward players for learning the map in the short-term. Tweaks have also been made to how Bloodhound plays and to make Wattson less of a must-have.

Three High-Profile Games Are Departing Xbox Game Pass Soon

4 years 1 month ago

Games come and go, that's the nature of Xbox Game Pass. The popular games-on-demand service will witness three high-profile departures in the next two weeks, as Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Shenmue I & II will be leaving Game Pass on Xbox One according to a recent update on the Microsoft Store.

Deux Ex: Mankind Divided is the sequel to 2011's excellent Deux Ex: Human Revolution. The cyberpunk RPG follow-up puts you back in the augmented boots of Adam Jensen, as you explore dense sandbox environments with the freedom to approach objectives in myriad ways. Edmond Tran gave it a score of 8/10 in GameSpot's review, saying, "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided refines and reinforces the defining foundations of the series. It creates challenging situations and gives players the tools and flexibility to deal with them in a multitude of ways, all within an absorbing cyberpunk world. Although not a significant departure from Human Revolution, Mankind Divided is still a uniquely fulfilling experience, one which feels rare in games today."

Battlefield 5 Update 6.2 Delayed, Patch Notes And Launch Time Revealed

4 years 1 month ago

Battlefield V's upcoming free 6.2 update for PS4, Xbox One, and PC has been delayed due to the developers uncovering a bug in the final release, but the patch notes are here. For the most part, the update is focused on balancing the game's different weapon types by increasing the amount of damage that most weapons deal, as well as dampening damage dropoff for the game's longer-range weapons.

The update also adds tank customization, allowing players to personalize their vehicle's paint job, turret, or chassis. This is a feature that the community has sought after for some time, to the point that DICE is adding a "coming soon" chassis for the Sherman tank as a joking reference to its long time in the pipe. It also includes minor changes to some maps, including Solomon Islands and Wake Island, which were both added as part of the game's recent Jungle update. This added a bundle of new things to the game, including new weapons.

Update 6.2 is now scheduled to release on all platforms on Thursday, March 5. It will see a staggered rollout across each platform, with the patch rolling out beginning at the times listed below.

Destiny 2 Adds A New Seasonal Event In Season Of The Worthy

4 years 1 month ago

Bungie has released some details outlining much of what's coming with Destiny 2's Season of the Worthy when it kicks off on March 10. One big and interesting item: Guardian Games, a new event that'll run for three weeks in the middle of the season.

The Season of the Worthy's roadmap provides a fairly minimal description of the event, but does give a bit of an idea of what to expect. Bungie calls the Guardian Games a "class competition," which will include new Legendary armor as rewards. The name "Guardian Games" sounds like it might have an Olympics feel, and since the 2020 Summer Olympics are running in Tokyo this July and August, that makes thematic sense.

Last year, Destiny 2 saw a different seasonal event around this time--the Revelry, which took on a springtime theme and included timed events and special rewards. Apparently, Bungie is ditching the Revelry this year for the Guardian Games, which definitely sound like they'll have a more competitive flair than the Revelry, which was a largely PvE event.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Patch Notes--No Battle Royale Update Yet

4 years 1 month ago

As Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's second season kicked off on February 11 and the first-person shooter received a bunch of updates since then, developer Infinity Ward is back with another quick patch for the Modern Warfare reboot on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. We've compiled the full notes below--just don't expect the rumored Warzone battle royale mode to be waiting for you next time you boot up the game.

The full patch notes reveal some minor changes made to Modern Warfare, includes adjustments to the uzi, updates to the playlist, a quick PC fix, some late additions that didn't make it in a previous patch, and more. Most exciting might be what's not in the patch notes but is now available from the in-game store: a Tamagotchi.

Shoot the Ship has replaced Dirty Old House Boat as the game's 24/7 map. The 3v3 snipers only version of Gunfight has been replaced by the more traditional Gunfight while retaining the same number of players. However, all Gunfight maps can be played in a new "1v1 Me Bro" format, where the UAV is always on and the speech of enemy players can be heard. Lastly in the playlist update, Ground War has been updated to a boots-on-the-ground version where there are no tanks and the realism rules no longer apply.

Switch Turns Three Years Old, And Nintendo Still Hasn't Addressed Its Most Glaring Flaw

4 years 1 month ago

Somehow, Nintendo Switch is already three years old. It launched on March 3, 2017, and it's proven to be a truly fantastic system, with an extensive library of great games, including a few with PC cross-save support that effectively turn Switch into a portable extension of your gaming PC. We've already had one of the hardware revisions you'd expect from a Nintendo system, and system updates released over the past few years have introduced some new functionality. However, none of those updates have brought with them an essential ingredient that's been missing since Day One.

I'm speaking, of course, about the lack of music on the Eshop. This may not be as practical as another of the Switch features that I've also been asking for over the past few years--folder support--but that's not what's important. Part of what made everyone love to shop on the Wii Shop every Wednesday, aside from the presence of the Virtual Console, was that truly catchy groovin'... like a bossa nova beat that accompanied the experience. Wii U had its own shopping music which actually changed at times, signaling that someone at Nintendo did actually care about this.

Final Fantasy 14 Brings Back Little Ladies' Day Event

4 years 1 month ago

Final Fantasy XIV brought back its springtime seasonal Little Ladies' Day event. It'll run from March 2 to March 16, and like any in-game event, it comes with special quests and unique items.

You can head on over to Ul'dah and hit up the Royal Seneschal for the "Pretty in Peaches" quest. Upon completion, you'll receive the Princess's Peach Corsage and a Seneschal's Monocle. They can't be traded, which means they can only be obtained during this seasonal event. The quest itself is a non-combat one and consists primarily of talking to NPCs.

The shop also offers seasonal furniture like a pink-cladded Eastern Stage and a sakura-decorated Little Ladies' Day Banner. You can also purchase Peach and Cherry Confetti for cool effects. Certain items from previous years' Little Ladies Day will also be available.

The headline new feature is something Bungie has already announced following the completion of the Empyrean Foundation community event last week, as Trials of Osiris returns for Season of the Worthy. The Power-enabled 3v3 Crucible playlist will run every weekend for Guardians hoping to earn some fancy-looking loot. Those able to win multiple Trials of Osiris matches in a row will net some valuable Pinnacle gear, while anyone good enough to win seven in a row will earn additional rewards and special access to The Lighthouse. Developers 343 Industries and Saber Interactive have announced that the 2014 enhanced remake of Halo, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, is now available on PC via Xbox Game Pass for PC, Windows 10, and Steam as part of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection

343 community director Brian Jarrard shared a blog post detailing the new features in this extra-enhanced reimagining of Master Chief's first adventure. With this new PC release, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary comes fully optimized for the platform with a 60 FPS frame rate (or greater if your machine can handle it) and support for 4K UHD displays. Pokemon Go Has Made Shadow Pokemon Stronger

4 years 1 month ago

Pokemon Go players have a ton of events to look forward to this month, from the debut of the Gen 5 Legendary Thundurus to a Team Rocket takeover, which is slated to kick off this Friday, March 6. Ahead of the event, developer Niantic has made a few tweaks to Shadow Pokemon.

As detailed on the official Pokemon Go website, Shadow Pokemon now dish out more damage when they remain in their Shadow form. To offset this, however, their defense has been reduced, so they'll take more damage in return. It also now costs less Candy to power up a Shadow Pokemon and teach it a new move, and the Shadow Legendary Pokemon that you can rescue from Team Rocket leader Giovanni are more powerful.

Bloodstained's $5 Million Stretch Goal Has Been Canceled

4 years 1 month ago

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will no longer be getting a new rougelike mode, despite being a reward for a stretch goal that was met during the project's initial Kickstarter funding run.

In an update on the Kickstarter page Jason Ryan, senior community manager at publisher 505 Games, explained explained that the mode was simply not possible anymore due to due to incompatibility with some of Bloodstained's coding. "Unfortunately, the code that was created early in the game’s development is not currently compatible with this type of gameplay (especially a procedurally generated castle)," writes Ryan. "Due to this, we regret to announce that we will not be developing Roguelike as part of the project's planned stretch goals."

Instead of a roguelike mode, Bloodstained will be getting a Randomizer that attempts to bridge the gap by introducing some elements that would've been included. This mode will change up the locations of items, randomize where save points and warp rooms are, and change which boss ultimately ends the game. Up to eight parameters can be edited before starting a new campaign to create a unique run, which can then be shared with other players via a generated seed that can be used to spin up custom games.

PUBG Mobile Update Adds Hardcore Mode And Amusement Park

4 years 1 month ago

Hardcore mode is back in the latest PUBG Mobile update today, giving you the chance to show off your small-screen skills. The mode is available in the game's Arcade section, and several changes and additions have also arrived to Classic mode.

In Hardcore mode, the game is made much more challenging by removing sound prompts and making item pickups manual. This means you'll need to stay much more aware of your surroundings and keep track of every entrance and exit in a building.

Among the biggest new features added to Classic mode is a death replay function, letting you see exactly how you died so you can better prepare for the next round. Universal Marks were added, as well, with doors, death crates, vehicles, locations, and supplies all available to mark alongside enemies.

Doom Eternal's Battlemode Multiplayer Is A Non-Stop Full-Speed Rush

4 years 1 month ago

Every time I've had the chance to play Doom Eternal, I came away impressed with how its single-player campaign is building on 2016's great foundation while rethinking challenge in FPS combat. It's controlled chaos, pushing you to use the many weapons and tools to rip and tear demons with grace, and reasonably punishing you if you don't. A lot of effort has been put into making these systems work, and recreating that experience for multiplayer has led to what's called Battlemode.

Doom isn't really known for its multiplayer; the somewhat lackluster showing for Doom in 2016 comes to mind. And when we visited id Software recently, Doom Eternal's game director Hugo Martin and executive producer Marty Stratton told us that they knew they had to do something different. There, we got our first hands-on with Battlemode, and saw just how drastically this new multiplayer approach is deviating from convention, yet capturing--sometimes intensifying--the adrenaline rushes you get through the campaign. You'll see what I'm talking about in the video below.

Here are the basics; it's an asymmetrical 1v2 competitive mode with one player as Doom Slayer, equipped with all the single-player capabilities, against two players as demons, with multiple to choose from, each acting like different class-types. In each round, Doom Slayer has to kill both player-demons before either one respawns on a 20-second countdown while the demons just need to kill Doom Slayer. But since Doom Slayer has every capability from the campaign--a full loadout, and the chainsaw, glory kill, and flame belch to keep resources replenished--the demon team has to strategize to win.

Plague Survival Horror Pathologic 2 Is Coming To PS4

4 years 1 month ago

The bleak, plague-themed survival game Pathologic 2 will be available for PS4 players from Friday March 6, after initially releasing for PC and Xbox One last year.

Despite the '2' in the name, Pathologic 2 is less of a sequel and more of a reimagining of the original game. Made by Russian developer Ice-Pick Lodge, the game is set on the Russian Steppe, with all the bleakness you might imagine from that setting.

You play as a doctor striving, and usually failing, to save others and even yourself from the grips of a deadly plague. The game is designed to be a punishing, disorienting experience, rather than a typical game where playing well is rewarded with success.

Nintendo Switch Update 9.2.0 Released, But It Doesn't Do Much

4 years 1 month ago

The Nintendo Switch released three years ago on March 3, 2017, and has proven extremely popular since. The system's birthday isn't being treated with too much fanfare, though--there's a new system update available, but it doesn't add a whole lot.

Update 9.2.0 is available now and will download next time you try to use the Nintendo Eshop or other online services. It can also be downloaded manually from the System Update option in the System Settings menu. Here's what has changed, according to the update notes: "General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience."

It's possible there is some hidden aspect to this update that isn't being advertised, but there's no indication that's the case at this point. Nintendo tends to release several such updates for the Nintendo Switch each year--don't expect any major new features when you turn on your Switch next and see that the system's ready for an update.

Apex Legends Update Makes Bloodhound Work As They Should

4 years 1 month ago

Respawn is trying to get people to play with Apex Legends character Bloodhound as the technological tracker is designed. Update 4.1, which launches alongside the System Override Collection event, contains several character patches--including several aimed at making Bloodhound more of a recon character.

The role of the recon character in Apex Legends has always been a little nebulous--why, for example, was Pathfinder a support character at launch when his passive ability is literally a form of reconnaissance? Respawn is seemingly attempting to better define the role going forward. Pathfinder is now a recon character, for instance, and the terrifyingly aggressive Bloodhound is being adjusted to be less of an attacker and more of a hunter.

In Update 4.1, the range of Bloodhound's tactical ability, Eye of the Allfather, will be increased by three times. Whereas before, Eye of the Allfather was good for seeing an enemy hiding in one building, now it's range can encompass several structures. The scan lasts a whole second longer too, making it easier to catch enemy squads with the ability.

Apex Legends System Override Update Makes Wattson Less Of A "Must-Have," Says Respawn

4 years 1 month ago

Alongside the addition of Octane's heirloom and the start of System Override (which sees the return of Kings Canyon), Respawn is implementing a new update into Apex Legends. The full patch notes for the update reveals several in-game changes, including one that aims to make Wattson less of a must-have for a squad's success.

Currently, a full stack of two grenades takes up a single slot in a player's inventory--allowing them to, for example, hold six grenades at the cost of only three slots. Once you have a big enough backpack, this makes it very easy to stockpile grenades, which your squad can then use to bombard an opponent from afar.

This tactic is devastating in the final circles of a match (especially if you throw in Bangalore's Rolling Thunder, Cautic's Nox Gas Grenade, or Gibraltar's Defensive Bombardment), where it's more difficult for an enemy squad to find space to retreat and reposition themselves. So, of course, more and more people have started using it.

Apex Legends Kings Canyon Map Will Return As Season 2 Version

4 years 1 month ago

Respawn has already given players a chance to play on Apex Legends' original map, Kings Canyon, a few times in Season 4: Assimilation. Both times, however, the map has returned as one of the older versions of Kings Canyon. Going forward, you'll play on the Kings Canyon you remember from the final days of Season 2: Battle Charge.

Kings Canyon will first return in the System Override Collection event, during the second week of the limited-time Deja Loot mode. "This will be the Season 2 version of Kings Canyon," Respawn design director Jason McCord said on Apex Devstream #4. "[The version] with the leviathans in it and all the town takeovers--the last version of the map that [players] played live."

Halfway through Season 4: Assimilation, the ranked playlist will transition from World's Edge to Kings Canyon. However, the legends won't be playing on a new Kings Canyon. During the devstream, Respawn community manager Jay Frechette said that, like in System Override, the Kings Canyon that returns at the ranked playlist split is still the version of the map from Season 2: Battle Charge. So don't expect a brand-new version of Apex Legends' original map.

E3 2020 Still Going Ahead As Planned Amidst Coronavirus Concerns

4 years 1 month ago

E3 2020 is scheduled to happen from June 9 through June 11, but as numerous worldwide events are cancelled or postponed due to the COVID-19 (aka coronavirus) outbreak, it would be reasonable to question whether organizers were wavering. In the wake of GDC being postponed, E3's organizers have stated that they still plan on having the event in June.

The news comes from Vice's Patrick Klepek, who received a statement from the ESA and shared it via Twitter. The statement confirms that the company is "watching the situation very closely", and makes it clear that things could change, but for now, it is "moving ahead full speed with E3 2020 planning."

Exhibits and ticket sales have continued unabated, and it's not possible to know whether the outbreak will be contained--or what state things will be in--by June.

Need For Speed Heat--Huge March Update Adds Black Market And Hundreds Of Bug Fixes

4 years 1 month ago

Need for Speed Heat has received a major upgrade with its March update, which not only adds a new "Black Market" feature but also offers hundreds of tweaks and bug fixes across all versions of the game. The update lands at March 3 between 9AM-11AM UTC, and will weigh in at between 7.7GB and 8.38GB, depending on your system.

The Black Market update will deliver two new cars to players, although only one of them will be free. The Aston Martin DB11 Volante '19 will be awarded to you just for heading down to Port Murphy to start the new Black Market mission, while you'll need to pay for the McLaren F1 '93. New vanity items are also available to trick your car out with.

The game will also receive numerous general quality-of-life improvements, including an adjustable camera shake, a notification in online races to remind you that the game is not paused, and a change in how you are notified of new item unlocks. Additionally, more vanity items have been added, including one that syncs to your music. New visual elements have been added to races, too, including new intros, victory poses, and visible "ghost" cars before your race.

The rest of the patch list is extremely long, offering an enormous list of bug fixes. It can be viewed on Reddit, but the general takeaway is that many, many issues have been fixed.

Bungie Won't Sell Randomized Loot Boxes In Destiny 2 Anymore

4 years 1 month ago

As Bungie gears up for Season 10 of Destiny 2, which kicks off on March 10 with the return of the Trials of Osiris, the studio is aiming to make the looter-shooter's rewards more transparent. When Season 10 goes live next Tuesday, you will no longer be able to buy Bright Engrams from the in-game Eververse Store.

Director Luke Smith shared a lengthy Director's Cut blog post discussing the state of Destiny 2, detailing the lessons learned and the hope held for the future of the looter-shooter. In both looking forward and backward, Smith said Destiny 2's randomized loot boxes (Bright Engrams) no longer reflect Bungie's values and vision.

"For Season 10, we're doing away with Bright Engrams as purchasable items. We want players to know what something costs before they buy it," Smith wrote. "Bright Engrams don't live up to that principle so we will no longer be selling them on the Eververse Store, though they will still appear on the Free Track of the Season Pass."

Despite Coronavirus Fears Seattle's Emerald City Comic Con Will Go On

4 years 1 month ago

The Seattle-based Emerald City Comic Con will proceed as planned, despite multiple confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the region. In the wake of the outbreak of the virus, organizers have cancelled or postponed several major gaming events, including San Francisco's GDC, which prompted the statement.

The event is scheduled to take place from March 12 to 15. According to organizer ReedPOP, the team behind the event have "implemented enhanced cleaning and sanitation across the show, including adhering to the recommendations set forth in the US EPA's Emerging Pathogen Policy."

Coronavirus fears have the potential to severely disrupt events across the games industry, especially for important industry conventions like GDC and E3. So far, the 96 confirmed cases of the virus in the United States have been clustered on the West Coast, especially San Francisco and Seattle, two of the traditional hubs of the gaming industry.

Reggie Fils-Aime Is Still Having Fun With Mother 3 Questions

4 years 1 month ago

Reggie Fils-Aime might have left his vaunted position at Nintendo in 2019, but he still has plenty to say. In a reply to a tweet speculating about his height, Fils-Aime clarified that he's actually 6 feet, 2.5 inches, joking that the weight of all of the questions about Mother 3 caused him to shrink.

Mother 3 is the 2006 sequel to the cult role-playing game Mother 2, which is better known as Earthbound outside of Japan. Widely considered one of the best RPGs to never receive an official English translation, fans have clamored for its release for decades now. (An unofficial translation was created by a team of Earthbound fans back in 2008.)

Even though the game is available in English with minimal effort, gamers still lobby for an official translation on occasion. For example, when Mother 3 was re-released on the Wii U Virtual Console in Japan in 2016, fans spoke out. Given the amount of time that's passed, however, it seems unlikely to happen anytime soon.
