Flash Sale: MacBooks, iPhones, Gaming PC, And More Get Massive Discounts For Limited Time

4 years 2 months ago

With the weekend only hours away, Best Buy has kicked off a limited-time flash sale. The sale features everything from the MacBook Pro and iPhone X to a powerful gaming PC and a robot vacuum--yes, a Roomba. There are also a couple deals on true wireless earbuds, in addition to 4K TVs, Windows laptops, and a 256GB microSD card that will work perfectly with a Nintendo Switch. The Best Buy flash sale lasts until 9:59 PM PT on February 28 / 12:59 AM ET on February 29.

In the flash sale, you can save from $500 up to $1500 on a MacBook Pro, depending on the specs you want with your laptop. Thankfully, all of the MacBook Pros are capable of handling heavy workloads, including video, audio, and photo editing, and can even hold their own when it comes to gaming--just don't expect the same experience you would on a PC, of course. The cheapest model is equipped with a 256GB SSD, so you don't have to worry too much about storage space unless you're dealing with big video files for editing. Each MacBook Pro also comes with a four-month subscription to Apple Music and a six-month subscription to Trend Micro Internet Security.

If you're looking for a new phone, then the Best Buy flash sale is discounting the iPhone X by $400. Both the Space Gray and Silver models are discounted and boast 256GB of storage. The iPhone X is an older phone, launching November 2017, so don't expect the latest tech seen in the iPhone 11 line of phones.

The official Kojima Productions Twitter account recently tweeted an image of head of communications, Aki Saito, scribbling on a post-it note. Other Twitter users have been quick to point out some apparent clues in the tweet that point towards Silent Hills.

Borderlands 3 Hotfix Update Out Now; Full Patch Notes Revealed

4 years 2 months ago

Developer Gearbox Software has released a brand-new Borderlands 3 hotfix update on PC, PlayStation 4, Google's Stadia cloud gaming service, and Xbox One. The patch addresses a number of community concerns, including progression issues, stuck enemies, weapon adjustments, and more, all of which is detailed in the full patch notes.

A number of fixes go toward a lot of gameplay problems, namely those relating to progression and enemies. After the hotfix is applied--which is done through the main menu--game progression during missions like All Bets Off should be resolved, allowing you to finally kill that last enemy so that you can move on. Further, enemies should no longer get stuck in locations such as Cistern of Slaughter and Billy the Anointed should not teleport as often during a fight. Finally, the hotfix will prevent you from getting stuck in the second VIP room at Beggar's Berth.

Elsewhere in the hotfix, Borderlands 3 will see a variety of its weapons adjusted. All Dahl assault rifles have had their damage increased by 35%, the legendary shotgun Lob had its magazine increased from four to 12, the legendary sniper Woodblock had its vertical recoil slightly reduced, and more. Check below for a full list of tweaks made in Borderlands 3's upcoming hotfix.

Nioh 2's Last Chance Trial Is Out Now On PS4

4 years 2 months ago

Even though Team Ninja's sequel to 2017's Nioh is only two weeks away, this weekend, you'll have the chance to get one last taste of glorious Yokai-killing action before launch. The new demo for Nioh 2, dubbed the Last Chance Trial, is now available to download on PS4.

The demo includes three massive stages for you to wreak holy samurai havoc, a new morphing scythe weapon called the Switchglaive, as well as access to the character creator. While your progress in the demo won't carry over to the full game, your custom character will. In addition, beating the demo will get you the Kamaitachi Helmet for use in the full game.

For the lucky folks who got to play around with the game during its open beta back in November, you'll also be glad to hear Team Ninja took the feedback gathered during that period to heart. In a post on the PlayStation blog back in January, the game's creative director, Tom Lee, had this to say about what to expect: “In order to address some of the portions that felt unreasonably difficult, we will be adjusting the balance for all Yokai actions and strengthening several of the special moves and making them more manageable to use. There will be modifications made to control the level of punishments in the Dark Realm such as adding merits where the maximum Ki damage is increased against enemy Yokai as well as the overall management of the player's Ki will be refined.

My Time At Portia Devs Have A New Puzzle Game Coming

4 years 2 months ago

Pathea Games, the developer behind My Time at Portia, has announced a new adventure puzzle game called Ever Forward. You play as a young girl who is trapped "somewhere between imagination and reality" and needs to solve puzzles to find her way out. The game will be released in May and will be available on PC through Steam, Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The studio has been working on Ever Forward for four years and released the game as a demo called Protoform two years ago. Pathea Games commented that while Protoform's puzzles were great, they needed to redesign the world outside of the puzzles because it wasn't "paced very well nor attractive." Ever Forward is a result of that redesign.

The puzzles are designed with the "puzzle gamer" in mind and a few can be completed in multiple ways to fit different kinds of thinkers. New puzzles can be unlocked by collecting fragments of the young girl's memories.

4 years 2 months ago

Destiny 2 merchant Xur is back this weekend to help you out with a handful of Exotics to help you get what you're missing. Here's where to find him and what he's offering.

Xur is located in The Tower right now, in the Hangar area. His Exotic weapon this week is Sunshot. Titans can get Dunemarchers leg armor; Warlocks can purchase the Eye of Another World helmet; and Hunters have Aeon Swift gauntlets on offer.

This visit comes just as the Season of Dawn is almost over, and now we know what to expect from Destiny 2's next content season, the Season of the Worthy. Bungie has confirmed the return of the Trials of Osiris, which means this is a great time to fill out your Exotic collection so you're ready to hop into the Crucible's greatest challenge when it returns on March 13 (especially because Bungie is planning some weapon changes, it seems).

Analogue's Amazing Nt Mini Is Back For One Last Time

4 years 2 months ago

One of the best systems to play original NES and Famicom games, the Analogue Nt Mini, is having a final run of production, and pre-orders are now open.

The custom hardware from Analogue ships in a nice noir color scheme, and includes a 2.4g 8BitDo N30 NES wireless controller. The entire bundle isn't cheap though--for the fanciest third-party NES, you'll need to fork out $500 for the pleasure.

That likely won't be an issue for the enthusiasts this is made for, especially considering how great the console really is. In our original review of the Analogue Nt Mini, critic Peter Brown praised Analogue's commitment to providing an experience with no compromises.

Third Borderlands 3 Expansion Will Have Outlaws On Dinosaurs

4 years 2 months ago

Borderlands 3 continues to get bigger, and alongside the reveal trailer for its second campaign add-on Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright & Hammerlock, Gearbox Software has also shared a teaser image for a third DLC expansion. This one will take things in two very different directions, featuring revolver-toting outlaws as well as dinosaurs.

Announced as part of its PAX East news, the third campaign add-on hasn't been fully detailed yet, but it will arrive this summer. It's included with the Borderlands 3 Season Pass, and as the image shows outlaws riding on dinosaurs, it should be every bit as goofy and over-the-top as Borderlands fans expect.

Baldur's Gate 3 Romance Options Won't Be As Straightforward As You Might Expect

4 years 2 months ago

Baldur's Gate 3 might only be in early access later this year, but developer Larian Studios already has big plans for how it will redefine role-playing game relationships with your companions.

Specifically, when it comes to romance options with your companions. Speaking to VG24/7, senior writer Adam Smith mentioned how so many RPGs treat romance as a reward for saying the right things or giving the right gifts to characters. In Baldur's Gate 3, Smith wants to create more complex relationships that have a lasting emotional impact.

"We want to have jealousy," Smith explained. "We want to have just great joy in it, as well. But yes, we don't want it to be a case of, 'you brought me the gift that I like the most, so you got +50 affection.' It's much more based on how you deal with them, and the things you do. So, when I say, 'everyone's romanceable by everybody else,' that’s not in every playthrough".

Metro 2033 And Last Light Switch Ports Are Stunning, Both Out Now

4 years 2 months ago

The Nintendo Switch has been home to many ports of gaming's recent past, even games that you may have never believed would have been playable in handheld form like The Witcher 3, Doom (2016), Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. Now, we have both of the Redux versions of Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light, two tremendous single-player FPSs out now Switch. And having put some time into both, I'm coming away wildly impressed--these are Switch ports done right.

You kind of know what you're getting into when it comes to Switch versions of bigger games; lower resolutions, lower framerates, muddier textures, and toned-down effects. Those factors don't necessarily diminish the quality of the game itself though, so long as it's done within reason and the game remains playable. However, these Metro ports exceed what we've come to expect for Switch--they look sharp and run extremely well, all things considered. You can see for yourself in our gameplay footage below.

Naturally, the compromises are noticeable when playing in docked mode on a full size display, but Metro Redux is truly stunning in handheld mode. It's not just that the condensed screen mitigates the perceivable blemishes of lower graphical fidelity, it's that the graphical compromises are somewhat minimal as not to muddle or obscure overall visual clarity. Even lighting effects and character models, which are imperative to the Metro experience, still shine through.

Rockstar Games Website Could Be Teasing New Game

4 years 2 months ago

Let the conspiracy theories commence! Rockstar Games has updated its website with new artwork, and it could be the sign of a new project. That is, of course, unless it is a clever joke from the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption developer.

On the official Rockstar Games website, hitting the tab in the corner will give you dropdown menu with sections on games, news, videos, and more. The background images that appear behind this information are new, however, and one of them is possibly hinting at a new game. The word "bullying" can be seen among several lines of text about "fighting the righteous" and "killing dreams."

Amazon Just Launched An Awesome Sale On Switch, PS4, And Xbox One Games

4 years 2 months ago

Amazon matches rival competitors' sales so frequently that it would almost be a surprise at this point if it didn't do it. Once again, a day after Target launched its Save 25% Sale, Amazon has kicked off its own very similar sale, offering awesome discounts on a bunch of popular Switch, PS4, and Xbox One games. Target's sale is for in-store pickup orders only, so Amazon's sale is better when it comes to convenience. Stock will also probably sell out pretty quickly for the best deals, so you'll want to get your orders in as soon as possible.

For this sale, you have to check the coupon box to get the additional savings (25%). You'll see the final price at checkout. Though Amazon doesn't list end dates on its sales, it will probably run until Target's promotion ends on March 1. Amazon's sale doesn't feature every game offered in Target's sale, but it still boasts a ton of great deals.

Nintendo Switch users can pick up a pair of excellent RPGs for even more excellent prices. Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive drops to $37.49, which is an incredible price for a game that previously never went for under $50. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is just $22.49 (was $50).

Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke spoke openly, on stream and to various publications, about the Early Access release of Baldur's Gate 3 and about how companions will work in the game

"So it’s going to take us some time to get everything to a state where we can say ‘okay, now it’s robust and it works in every single fashion.'"

Baldur's Gate III Devs Open Up About Stadia Exclusivity, Suggest Game Wouldn't Run On PS4/Xbox One

4 years 2 months ago

Baldur's Gate III has been unveiled, featuring a turn-based combat system and some powerful cinematics. Now, with the game being shown at PAX East, more information is coming to light about the game as outlets talk to the creative forces behind it. One that that has come up a few times is the fact that the game is skipping PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but will be available for Google Stadia.

Talking to Eurogamer, design producer David Walgrave says that he isn't convinced the game would run efficiently on the other consoles. "I don't think that current-gen consoles would be able to run it," Walgrave says. "There's a lot of technical upgrades and updates that we did to our engine, and I don't know if it would be capable of being able to actually run on those things."

He concedes that it might work if they tweaked the textures, but "It wouldn't look as cool anymore." He also says that the game will come to PC and Stadia simultaneously in early access; although Stadia does not have an official term for Early Access as of yet, he says that it will largely be the same as it is on PC.

PUBG Developer Addresses Ongoing Issues And What They're Doing About Them

4 years 2 months ago

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is going strong, recently beginning its sixth season of content and adding a new team deathmatch mode, but there are also ongoing issues with the game that have sparked concerns for some players. The developers have taken to the game's website to discuss some of these issues, and explain what they're doing to improve matters for players.

The post opens with a brief statement on cheaters, and how dealing with them is a high priority. "We’re utilizing multiple internal teams and external resources to find new solutions for this problem. We’ll be sharing more information regarding these efforts in our upcoming Community Letter and 2020 Roadmap post in early March."

One major issue for players has been the game's performance, with FPS stuttering, freezing, and crashing issues making the game harder to compete in. These problems have increased since January, and the team is "conducting ongoing multi-faceted tests and analysis in an attempt to identify and resolve the issues causing this performance loss and causing game crashes."

Because some of these crashes have been hard to reproduce, or may be specific to hardware, it's been difficult. Thankfully, many players have sent in replay data to help the team identify issues. The developers encourage players to share issues they face through the game's support page.

Sludge Life Brings Graffiti, Cat Butts, And A Fart Button To Switch And Epic Store

4 years 2 months ago

Devolver Digital has announced Sludge Life for Nintendo Switch and the Epic Games Store. It's an open-world title set on a sludge-coated island that's rife with corporate branding, and it looks as grimy and goofy as you might expect. You play as Ghost, a graffiti tagger, and depending on how you play you can either rise to be a hero to the people of the island or bring the whole thing crashing down.

The trailer, below, shows off the game's unique aesthetic--note, for instance, how the cats have two butts. The game will also carry a dedicated fart button, which is good: in the wake of Untitled Goose Game, dedicated noise buttons are all the rage.

Sludge Life will have a very open structure, as you can wander through the island and complete tasks or explore at your own rate--there's an ending (in fact, there are three potential endings), but it's going for a non-linear structure. You can also get sidetracked by the game-within-a-game, Crypt Creeper, shown in the trailer.

The Dark Pictures--Man Of Medan Follow-Up Little Hope Releases In Summer 2020

4 years 2 months ago

The follow-up to The Dark Pictures - Man of Medan was first glanced after that game's credits, where we got out first teaser trailer for Little Hope. Now, we have a better idea of when this next episode will arrive, and it won't be as long a wait as it was for Man of Medan.

Little Hope will release in Summer 2020, effectively meaning that we can expect it sometime between June and August. Bandai Namco also debuted a new trailer, but don't expect new footage--it's mostly made up of streamer reactions to Man of Medan (and a celebration of actor Will Poulter's casting in Little Hope), with the release window announcement buried in the comments below the video.

Little Hope is set in the titular town, which is isolated and abandoned. Four college students, along with their professor, are trapped by an impenetrable fog, and have to escape the "nightmarish visions" that are pursuing them. It'll be up to the player, alone or with a partner in co-op, to search the town and discover what is happening, how it's connected to them, and--hopefully--how to escape.

It "Made Sense" For Baldur's Gate 3's Combat To Be Turn-Based, Says Dev

4 years 2 months ago

Although combat in previous Baldur's Gate titles has traditionally focused around the use of real-time mechanics, Baldur's Gate III uses a turn-based system. For developer Larian Studios, it's always been a no-brainer to make Baldur's Gate III a turn-based game.

"It was never really a question," Baldur's Gate III design producer David Walgrave said, according to USG. "We've been doing turn-based for a while now. We're pretty good at it. Dungeons & Dragons is turn-based in itself, so it makes a lot of sense.

"Even after we implemented the Dungeons & Dragons ruleset, the result was so different from what we concocted with Divinity: Original Sin that we saw that the combat designers would have to do it completely different, so that was a challenge," Walgrave continued. "And we're doing things that we haven't done before, so, for us, it was the best choice."

Borderlands 3 Spring 2020 Content Road Map Revealed

4 years 2 months ago

During PAX East 2020, Gearbox revealed the 2020 Spring Content Road Map for Borderlands 3. The three months of content will kick off with the Lovecraft-themed Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC before seeing regular free updates.

In March, Guns, Love, and Tentacles will be released, which introduces a new planet to visit and story missions to complete. Gaige and Deathtrap will both return and the DLC will offer plenty of new legendary loot and cosmetics.

This is only the beginning--Gearbox has Borderlands 3 DLC planned for most of 2020.

In April, Borderlands 3 will get its Mayhem 2.0 update. This update is aimed at altering the endgame Mayhem Mode, which is a challenge-based game mode for players looking to earn legendary loot more quickly. The update will alter the mode so that its effects are more in line with Borderlands 3's tone. So, for example, instead of shotgun damage decreasing and pistol damage increasing, you'll have goofier effects like everyone getting a big head--increasing the likelihood of scoring headshots for both you and your enemies.

Borderlands Movie Director Wants To Cast Cosplayers And Murder Them Brutally

4 years 2 months ago

The Borderlands movie has been in the works for a half-decade already, and it's still just getting started. But it crossed a major milestone recently when Gearbox announced that Hostel director Eli Roth had come aboard to direct the video game adaptation.

Roth appeared at the Gearbox PAX East panel today in Boston--he grew up in Newton--where he reacted to joining the movie and shared some new insight. In particular, he revealed that he wants to cast cosplayers in the movie, and then do terrible things to them.

Starting off, though, he did his best Boston accent. You really need to watch the full video for the complete effect, but here's what he said: "Dude, it's f**king wicked awesome to be here. I got f**king wicked hammered last night, went to Dunkies this morning, had like four cruellers, I'm like wicked wired right now."

How Larian Studios Hopes To Transcend Baldur's Gate 3's Legacy

4 years 2 months ago

During a panel at PAX East, the first gameplay from the much-anticipated Baldur's Gate 3 was revealed by developer Larian Studios, which is best known for the acclaimed Divinity: Original Sin and its sequel. Prior to this showcase at PAX, we were able to sit down with Larian creative director Swen Wincke to discuss the challenges of creating the game, working with Wizards of the Coast, and much more. Read on for our full chat and check out our breakdown of the new intro cinematic.

Mike Mahardy: I know Larian has been pursuing the Baldur's Gate license for a while now. Is it true that Divinity: Original Sin 2 was kind of like a tryout for Wizards of the Coast? A way for you to say, "Hey, we can handle this license?"

Swen Wincke, Creative Director: I approached them after Divinity: Original Sin (DOS 1). I said, "You should let us make Baldur's Gate 3. We have a lot of Dungeons and Dragons fans in the office. It's something that would really motivate them." They said no, then. Then we were working on DOS 2. In between, I kept on bumping into Nate Stewart at Dungeons and Dragons. He asked me, "What game would you make actually?" I said, "This is what I would make." He said, "Okay, all right, that's kind of cool." But yeah, at the time, the stars were not aligned.

"One of the key pillars of [Guns, Love, and Tentacles] was to put the love back into Lovecraft," Gearbox art director Jonathan Rancourt said in an interview with GameSpot. "We're going for a strong contrast between those [Lovecraftian] landscapes and the story of a love worth telling. You're going to be in a frozen wasteland where there are high mountain peaks that convey a sense of horror in some ways. But the story is lighter and it's about Hammerlock and Wainwright sharing their wedding. There's always trouble when you're going through your wedding and, this time around, it's even crazier."

Sir Hammerlock and Wainwright Jakobs won't be the only familiar faces you'll be running into during Guns, Love, and Tentacles--Borderlands 2's first DLC character, Gaige, is finally coming back. Much like Lilith, Mordecai, Zer0, and the rest of the Vault Hunters from previous games, Gaige returns as a companion NPC, not a playable character.

Borderlands 3 Releases On Steam Soon, Ending Epic Exclusivity

4 years 2 months ago

Borderlands 3 has been one of the most high-profile games to forgo a Steam release in favor of Epic Games Store exclusivity, but that will soon come to an end. As part of a PAX East panel, developer Gearbox announced that Borderlands 3 has a Steam release date: It launches on March 13.

The Steam store page is now available and you can add it to your wishlist, although pre-orders aren't yet available. While cross-play with the PS4 and Xbox One versions will not be available, cross-play is supported across both PC versions, letting Epic and Steam players join together for online multiplayer.

Borderlands 3 originally released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on September 13, 2019. That means this Steam release arrives exactly six months later; we had previously heard it would come no sooner than April. Also as part of the PAX happenings, Gearbox unveiled Borderlands 3's new DLC.

GTA 5 Adds Online Open Wheel Racing

4 years 2 months ago

You can race pretty much anything in Grand Theft Auto V's GTA Online. Whether you're racing against other players in supercars, mopeds, SUVs, planes, boats, RC cars, or even something as ludicrous as an airport baggage carrier. And yet, there's something missing... The next logical step is obviously to compete in the San Andreas Prix in F1-style open-wheel vehicles.

GTA Online: Open Wheel Racing is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The update adds two brand new ultra-performance vehicles for you to race in, the PR4 and R88. Both share the same stats, but you can take each one to Los Santos Customs to fine-tune and purchase spoilers, tires, liveries, engine mods, and more.

4 years 2 months ago

Apex Legends next limited-time event, System Override Collection, starts next week on March 3 and will continue for 14 days. System Override Collection adds a brand-new mode, legendary cosmetics, and another character heirloom--this time for Octane.

The new mode is called Deja Loot. From March 3-9, it will take place on World's Edge and from March 10-17 it will send you to Kings Canyon. The mode will see the same loot spawn in set locations, allowing you to know what you're going to find wherever you drop. If you find a fully-outfitted Triple-Take in Skull Town, that same Triple-Take will be there every time. The dropship path and ring locations will be the only aspect of the game that changes day-to-day.

Plague Inc. Has Been Removed From Sale On The China App Store

4 years 2 months ago

Developer Ndemic Creations has announced that Plague Inc. has been removed from sale on the China App Store. The Cyberspace Administration of China determined that the strategy game "includes content that is illegal in China."

Back in January, sales of the eight-year-old game skyrocketed in China, as players began using it to gain a better understanding of how diseases spread in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak--more commonly known as coronavirus. Plague Inc. is a real-time strategy game that tasks you with creating and evolving a deadly pathogen than can wipe out humanity before the world's top scientists are able to devise a cure. Its authenticity and educational importance has frequently been recognised by health organisations like the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).

"Plague Inc. is a huge critical and commercial success," Ndemic said in a statement. "Eight years old and with over 130 million players, it's the #1 strategy/simulation game worldwide and has been the most popular paid game in China for many years. Plague Inc. stands out as an intelligent and sophisticated simulation that encourages players to think and learn more about serious public health issues. We have a huge amount of respect for our Chinese players and are devastated that they are no longer able to access and play Plague Inc.

Mewtwo Is Appearing In Pokemon Sword & Shield's Max Raids, And It's Incredibly Tough

4 years 2 months ago

A new Max Raid event has begun in Pokemon Sword and Shield. To commemorate Pokemon Day, the Legendary Mewtwo is appearing in Max Raid dens for a limited time, as are the original three starter Pokemon, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle--and you'll get some great rewards for defeating them.

The Mewtwo Raid in particular differs from other Raids in a few ways. First, Mewtwo is uncatchable. Before you join the Raid, you'll see a warning that Mewtwo can't be caught, but there's still a good incentive to battle it; you'll receive some fantastic rewards if you can defeat the Legendary, including Ability Capsules--which can be used to change one of your Pokemon's Abilities.

Earning these rewards won't be easy, however. Mewtwo is level 100, and it's incredibly fast and powerful; it can move four times in a turn and knows a broad range of attacks. The Kanto starters, however, can be caught. These Raids likewise dispense rare items as rewards, including Flame Orbs, which could previously only be obtained from Sword and Shield's true antagonist, the Ball Guy.
