Call Of Duty: Warzone Is Out Now For Some

4 years 1 month ago

Call of Duty: Warzone has arrived. The free-to-play battle royale game is available to download now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC if you own a copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. If you don't, you'll be able to download it from your platform's respective digital store starting at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET.

If you're up to date on MW's updates, Warzone will weigh in between 18-22 GB, and it'll replace the "Classified" panel in the game's main menu. If you're a new player, however, the download will be significantly larger; you'll need between 83-101 GB of free space to install it.

Warzone is completely free to download for everyone; you don't need to have Modern Warfare to play it, but there are some benefits to owning the 2019 shooter. Warzone supports cross-progression with MW; Operators, weapons, and other content you've unlocked in MW can be used in Warzone, and progress you make in Warzone will carry back over into MW. Warzone also supports cross-play, and you don't need a PS Plus subscription if you're playing on PS4.

Lego And Nintendo Tease Mario Collaboration

4 years 1 month ago

Everyone's favorite portly plumber is getting turned into a plastic toy that will destroy your foot if you step on it accidentally. Nintendo and LEGO are teasing a collaboration that will turn Mario into a plastic figure, but it's unclear if that means a new line of toys, a new game, or both.

The collaboration is the first time Nintendo and Lego have ever worked together, despite Traveller's Tales releasing Lego games on its platforms for years. British retailer Game noted that it was announced via a Nintendo Direct presentation, but that has not happened, and the reference was later removed from the page. Either Game jumped the gun or Nintendo changed its plans, but we don't know exactly what's in store for Mario and Lego. Our fingers are crossed for a Lego set of Peach's Castle from Super Mario 64, complete with permeable paintings.

Players will be able to unlock new skins, animations, and menu podiums--all of which will be earned through play, as Doom Eternal doesn't have any microtransactions. Doom Eternal is an ultra-violent game about obliterating demons, but now you can save Earth while you moonlight as a recurring character on My Little Pony.

Panzer Dragoon Voyage Record Reimagines The Original Trilogy In VR

4 years 1 month ago

The first two Panzer Dragoon games are already coming to Nintendo Switch in the near-future, but that isn’t all you'll be able to play soon. Panzer Dragoon Voyage Record is a reimagined take on the Sega Saturn trilogy and it's built specifically for VR.

Panzer Dragoon Voyage Record, a title that cleverly works in "VR" without using "Virtual Reality," will take place in first-person view and uses a motion controller to control the dragon rider's weapon. It's expected to arrive by March 2021, and it's the first game from startup developer Wildman. It will be a single-player experience, with the game's first press release calling it a "VR dramatic shooter."

The game's official Twitter account said it won't be a full remake of the games, so it's possible only some of their content will be included. However, several of their iconic dragons such as Atolm and Lagi are featured.

2K Will Make NFL Games Again, Challenging EA Sports And The Madden Series

4 years 1 month ago

In a big shake-up for the world of sports video games, 2K Games has announced a partnership with the NFL to make football video games, giving EA Sports and the Madden series a new challenger. However, don't expect this to be the return of the NFL 2K franchise as you remember it.

The multi-year deal will see 2K Sports creating non-simulation football games, which is a key detail to note. EA Sports' Madden NFL series is a simulation-based franchise, and those games will continue to be made alongside the new ones from 2K.

2K is not sharing any details on the specific games, who is making them, or when they will release, apart from confirming that the first of these will launch in calendar year 2021. All of the titles are in "early development" right now, 2K said.

The Wonderful 101: Remastered Kickstarter Ends With $2.22 Million Pledged

4 years 1 month ago

Platinum Games' Kickstarter for the remake of its 2013 Wii U game The Wonderful 101 has finished with more than 40 times its initial goal.

The campaign ended up with a total of $2,222,546 pledged by 33,199 backers, with almost $200,000 being pledged in the last 24 hours.

While the Kickstarter didn't quite make it to the last-minute $2.25 million stretch goal, which would see two new orchestral recordings added to the game, chatter on the project's countdown livestream suggested that non-Kickstarter donations would still push them over that goal.

Escape From Tarkov's Interchange Map Is Getting A Rework

4 years 1 month ago

Despite having been playable for almost three years, Escape From Tarkov is still in beta. The big disadvantage of playing a game that's still in beta is that sometimes things change--a lot. In the case of Tarkov, that means they’ll soon have to rethink their strategies for the Interchange map.

While the preliminary patch notes don't detail what changes are being made to the shopping center-themed map, PCGamesn has picked up that new exfil points are being added, meaning players will have a new set of exits to memorize.

The 0.12.4 patch will also add a number of features to make Tarkov's survival mechanics even more punishing. A new addition to the stamina system is 'fatigue'--if your character spends too much time with low stamina, the fatigue debuff will cause you to use energy more quickly.

Call Of Duty: Warzone -- A Key Detail Has Been Confirmed Just Before Launch

4 years 1 month ago

Infinity Ward has confirmed a key detail about Call of Duty: Warzone. Production director Paul Haile stated on Twitter that players will not need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play the battle royale game.

That's not a huge surprise, as many other free-to-play battle royale games, including Fortnite and Apex Legends, also do not require paid subscriptions to PlayStation Plus. It's a different case on Xbox One, as Fortnite and Apex Legends do require Xbox Live Gold. Whether or not this will also be the case for Warzone is unknown at this stage, but all should become clear soon.

Warzone is Call of Duty's second battle royale offering, following Blackout for Black Ops 4. It's a different situation this time around, however, as Activision is offering Warzone as a completely free, standalone game whereas Blackout was only available for people who bought Black Ops 4.

Call Of Duty: Warzone -- Sledgehammer Also Contributed To The Battle Royale Game

4 years 1 month ago

It appears Call of Duty: WWII developer Sledgehammer Games contributed to the development of Call of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play standalone battle royale game launching very soon.

Software engineer Josh Caratelli works at Sledgehammer's new office in Melbourne, Australia. He said on Twitter about his involvement with Warzone, "We've all put a lot of hard work into this."

It's not a big surprise to learn that Sledgehammer is working with Infinity Ward on Warzone, as the developer also contributed to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It was confirmed at Modern Warfare's launch that Sledgehammer was a support studio on Modern Warfare, alongside Beenox, High Moon, and Raven Software. This was notable because it was the first time one of the "main" Call of Duty studios helped out with a different studio's Call of Duty game.

The Mario Movie Is Happening Because Illumination CEO Told Miyamoto About His Failures

4 years 1 month ago

The Mario movie currently in the works at Illumination is still a while away, as it's due to release in 2022. Nintendo has been protective of its characters following 1993's disastrous live-action Super Mario Bros movie, which was an enormous flop that has since achieved cult status. Now, in a new interview, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has opened up about why Nintendo has partnered with Illumination (Despicable Me, Minions) for their upcoming animated film.

Shigeru Miyamoto, who is signed on to produce the new movie, spoke to Famitsu about the movie, and a portion of their discussion was translated by Nintendo Everything. In the interview, Miyamoto recalls meeting with Chris Meledandri, the CEO of Illumination. There was one specific thing that made Miyamoto trust the man, and it wasn't because of the success of their films.

"When we started our partnership with Universal, I heard that the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri, wanted to meet with me," Miyamoto says. "I didn’t know what kind of angle he was getting at, but I’ll never forget when he talked to me about why he had failed before."

Elder Scrolls Online Is Getting A Huge Update On Consoles

4 years 1 month ago

Get ready for a massive download, Elder Scrolls Online players. The Patching Overhaul in ESO's Update 25 will change the way the game is downloaded, patched and stored on your console--meaning improvements to game load time and a significant reduction in the amount of space taken up on your hard drive.

The bad news is that this update will require ESO to be completely re-downloaded from scratch. The game's auto-update will take care of the full process for you, but be prepared for the update to take some time.

Update 25 has already been released for PC and Mac, but will be coming to consoles on March 10--so you may need to load up your console early if you're planning to play ESO on Tuesday. The file size for the PC version of this update was 64.22GB, so the console download will likely be similarly huge.

Doom 64 Re-Release Will Feature A New Chapter

4 years 1 month ago

Doom 64 is returning on March 20 for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, releasing alongside Doom Eternal. The new version features upscaled graphics, a low price point, and, we're now learning, all-new content that was not featured in the original Nintendo 64 version.

USGamer is reporting that Nightdive Studios, the team behind the updated port, has added a new chapter to the game. In an interview, senior developer James Haley described the new chapter to the site, saying that it takes place after the Doom 64 story (which is itself set after Doom II). "The Mother Demon you defeated in that outing had a sister, and since you've been messing up Hell non-stop, she tries to get rid of you by sending you away," Haley explains.

"If you can make your way back and take revenge, you’ll be rewarded with a bit of lore that fans of both series, new and classic, should enjoy."

The classic Doom games have gotten their share of new content recently, including the John Romero developed Sigil expansion for the original. This expansion recently made its way into the console versions of Doom and Doom II.

Android xCloud Preview Adds Tools To Help Players Discover New Games

4 years 1 month ago

Microsoft is continuing to work on its Project xCloud game streaming service, with the preview version now available in four countries. The Android version of the xCloud test, which now boasts well over 50 games in its library, is adding a new feature designed to help players find a new game to play.

Those in the xCloud preview will notice a set of five game trailers next time they open the app. As well as helping players to decide on their next game, xCloud will use the time the trailer is playing to load the game in the background, cutting down wait time if the player decides to jump in and play.

As Project xCloud is still in its beta phase, this new feature and many others in the preview may not make it to the finished app in the same state, or at all. "The Project xCloud preview is all about iterating, getting your input, and continuing to build great experiences," the update reads.

What Happens When You Win A Call Of Duty Warzone Match Is The Most Call Of Duty Thing Ever

4 years 1 month ago

Call of Duty's new free-to-play Warzone mode is nearly here. Some gameplay videos have emerged ahead of launch, revealing a long list of interesting details about the battle royale mode. One particularly noteworthy reveal is what happens when you win a match.

A video from PlayStation Access shows that, when you've won a match, a message pops up that is very much on-brand for Call of Duty. As you can see below, it says, "Get Some."

But it doesn't end there. After that, the winning team (Warzone only supports squad play) gets helicoptered out of the map as the names of all the deceased scrolls through the screen as part of an "In Memoriam" segment. The camera then zooms in on your character and your username pops on screen. This happens even if you die during the match, which is pretty weird but we'll roll with it. Check out the screens below to see what happens when you win a match.

Total War: Warhammer 2 Will Now Test Huge Changes In The Proving Grounds Beta

4 years 1 month ago

Total War: Warhammer II released in 2017, but work continues on it. In a new post on the Total War website, a new mode has been announced for the game--a test server that will let the developers test some potential changes to the game. This new mode is called Proving Grounds, an "experimental beta" for testing balance changes.

The post admits that keeping balance across patches, as the game introduces new units, races, and mechanics, has "become an absolute hell-pit abomination." Because of this, they wanted to create the Proving Grounds to test balance changes without testing them in the live game. "There’ll be some extreme changes, designed to push the limits of our balance understanding, and maybe we’ll find some that players enjoy enough for us to implement in the main game," the post reads. "This beta will run for a limited time, while it continues to generate useful feedback."

"To be crystal clear," the post clarifies, "we can’t guarantee that ANY of the changes in the Proving Grounds will make it into the main game."

To join the Proving Grounds beta, you need to right-click on the game in your Steam library, click Properties, go into the Betas tab, and select the warhammerii_1.8.4 build. Your build will update, and you can opt out of the beta at any time. It will impact any campaigns you're currently in the middle of, so it's worth trying to wrap them up before joining the beta. So if you only bought the game recently after hearing about how much Henry Cavill loves it, you might want to hold off.

Here are the full notes for Proving Grounds, including goals for the project and the changes introduced in the current beta build.

Your Favorite Murderous Worms Are Getting A New Game

4 years 1 month ago

Team17 has announced a new Worms game for 2020. The trailer accompanying the tweeted announcement doesn't reveal much of the new title's gameplay, but it looks like it's guaranteed to remain violent and bombastic.

The trailer starts with snippets of classic past Worms games and ends with a worm dropping from the sky, smashing the TV playing the snippets, and then getting blown up. Team17 stated, "New Worms, new ways to play," which seems to imply major gameplay changes, but we'll have to wait to find out. It also remains to be seen if the new Worms game will be in 2D or 3D.

The last Worms game, released in 2016, was 2D. Titled Worms W.M.D., the game resembled the gameplay of Worms Armageddon and introduced vehicles like tanks and other landscape items, like buildings worms can crawl into for safety. However, elements in previous games, like classes and water physics, were removed.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Supports Cross-Play And Cross-Progression With Modern Warfare

4 years 1 month ago

Call of Duty: Warzone has officially been revealed. The standalone battle royale game hits PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 10, and it's free to play for everyone, so you don't need to own a copy of Modern Warfare to download it. If you do have the 2019 shooter, however, you'll be able to carry your progress between the two.

As Activision detailed in a lengthy blog post, Warzone has "unified progression" with Modern Warfare. That means content you've unlocked in Modern Warfare--including Operators, weapons, and Battle Pass items--can be used in Warzone, and any progress that you make in the battle royale game will carry over into Modern Warfare.

If you don't yet own a copy of Modern Warfare but do pick it up down the line, all the progress and items you've earned in Warzone will be rewarded to you in Modern Warfare's Multiplayer and Special Ops modes. Like Modern Warfare, Warzone also supports cross-play, meaning you can play with other players across PS4, Xbox One, and PC. You can read more details on Activision's website.

GameStop Hires Reggie Fils-Aime, Two Other Guys Who Aren't Famous For Kicking Ass Or Taking Names

4 years 1 month ago

The video game retailer GameStop has hired former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime to its board of directors. He'll join the board effective April 20, 2020, amid several other board moves including retirements and two new additions.

The GameStop biography on Fils-Aime as a new board member mentions his long tenure at Nintendo from 2003 to 2019, with a portfolio that included work on the Nintendo DS, Wii, 3DS, and Switch--the Wii U goes curiously unmentioned. It also points out that he previously worked at VH1, Pizza Hut, Procter & Gamble, and others. He'll serve as a member of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee.

Fils-Aime was a well-known figure in the games industry, especially for his larger-than-life persona at fan-facing events. When he retired from Nintendo it appeared to be a departure from the games industry altogether, and he's since been teaching at Cornell University. He's still active in the community, though, regularly sharing insights from his time at Nintendo occasionally cracking jokes about his tenure. He was succeeded by Doug Bowser.

The Division 2 Is Going Down For Maintenance Ahead Of Season 1 Update

4 years 1 month ago

The Division 2 servers will be down for an estimated three hours of maintenance on Tuesday, March 10 at 12:30 AM PST / 3:30 AM EST / 07:30 AM GMT. The downtime will be used to fix an issue that occurred after last week's release of the Warlords of New York expansion on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

The issue in question relates to new gear set blueprints not being granted as control point rewards. So before you try to wrestle back control of New York from the Rikers, Cleaners, and so on, you might want to wait until after Tuesday's downtime to ensure that you're rewarded for your efforts.

"These fixes are part of the ongoing efforts to fix bugs discovered since the launch of Warlords of New York and we are working on further changes/fixes that require additional time and will be deployed once ready," Ubisoft wrote in a forum post. If the community has its way, one possible future change should revolve around the renewed bullet sponginess of enemies. This has been one of the key complaints since Warlords of New York launched, with enemies and gadgets on higher difficulties taking far too long to defeat for even the most well-rounded squad. This post from Reddit shows how even a Support Station can soak up damage from multiple players:

Not only is March packed with events for Pokemon Go, but also Legendary Pokemon. In addition to Thundurus, which recently made its debut in the game, Niantic is bringing back a handful of Legendaries for special Raid weekends throughout the month, and now you'll get another chance to catch a few other Legendary Pokemon that could help bolster your PvP teams.

To help players prepare for the inaugural season of the Go Battle League, Pokemon Go's online PvP mode, a few powerful Legendaries like Registeel and Cresselia will return to Raids for a limited time. Niantic hasn't yet announced how long the Legendaries will be around, but you'll be able to encounter them starting at 8 AM local time on March 10.

The first season of the Go Battle League kicks off at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET on March 13. Call Of Duty: Warzone Gives You Something To Do Even After You Die (The First Time)

4 years 1 month ago

Activision has announced and revealed Call of Duty: Warzone, a new standalone free-to-play game that is also available through Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as a game mode. Warzone itself is divided into two separate modes: Plunder and Battle Royale. The star of the show is Battle Royale though, and the new mode implements several features to give you something to do during the traditional downtimes of a battle royale game.

The most noteworthy of these is The Gulag. "Upon your first elimination, you will be taken as a Prisoner of Warzone and thrown into the Gulag," Activision's Stephanie Glover wrote in a blog post. "There you will await your fate and watch other prisoners fight to the death. When your turn is up, you'll enter the Gulag and face-off against a single opponent in a 1v1 to earn the ultimate reward--redeployment."

If you don't happen to win in the Gulag, all is not lost. Your squad can still bring you back with in-match cash, and that's where Contracts come in. While the Gulag gives you something to do while you wait to respawn, Contracts offer tasks for players who are in between skirmishes.

Call Of Duty: Warzone's Battle Royale Map Looks Massive

4 years 1 month ago

Warzone rolls out into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on Tuesday, March 10--the new mode will include two game types, Plunder and the long-rumored Battle Royale. Both Plunder and Battle Royale will take place on a massive-looking map. If you're looking to plan ahead, Infinity Ward has revealed an overview of the map via Twitter.

The map (below) is a large area of Verdansk, with mountainous regions in the north and a body of water in the south. It's pocketed with several landmarks, including the Atlas Superstore, a stadium, lumber yard, quarry, and racing track. A dotted line appears to show the playable area, which in battle royale fashion will shrink as the match proceeds.

Warzone will be free-to-play, so you can jump in and join the battle royale even if you don't own the main Modern Warfare game. It will support up to 150 players, and Modern Warfare owners will get access a few hours early. There are other benefits to being in the Modern Warfare player pool as well, since non-owners will have a huge download size. New players will need to download an 80-100GB download, while MW players can get the mode with a 15-22GB one.

Check Out These New Call Of Duty: Warzone Screenshots

4 years 1 month ago

Ahead of Warzone's debut on March 10 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, Infinity Ward has shared a bunch of screenshots that show off Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's new battle royale mode.

The Warzone screenshots highlight the various features available to players when the battle royale goes live tomorrow at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 3 PM GMT for Modern Warfare owners and 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 7 PM GMT for everyone else. Phantasy Star Online 2 Open Beta Date Announced For North America

4 years 1 month ago

Phantasy Star Online 2 is one of Japan's most popular online RPGs, but it's never been playable outside of Asia before. As part of its North American launch--which does not have an exact release date yet--Sega has announced an upcoming open beta for the game on Xbox One on March 17.

This follows a closed beta that ran in early February. All progress from that beta will carry over to this one, and then eventually to the final game launch. According to the game's official site, it requires a whopping 75 GB of free space, as well as an Xbox Live Gold subscription. If you previously downloaded the client, it will update for the open beta on March 16.

Fans have clamored for a North American release of PSO2 for almost a decade now. An English version of the game was first teased at PAX in late 2012--however, the game was unceremoniously delayed without explanation. This release was first announced in mid-2019 at Microsoft's E3 press conference. Though the game will eventually come to PC, this beta test is exclusive to the Xbox One.

Best PC Gaming Deals (March 2020): Games, Laptops, Monitors, And More

4 years 1 month ago

The great thing about being a PC gamer is that you don't have to worry about new hardware making your current machine obsolete, whereas new consoles tend to make their predecessors redundant. On the PC, you can usually play the same games everyone else is, even when new graphics cards or processors are released--though you may have to sacrifice higher settings for an enjoyable experience. Thankfully, there are plenty of deals out there for PC gaming hardware and accessories.

Of course, in addition to the internal components like graphics cards, processors, and RAM, there are a ton of PC accessories that get discounted all the time: keyboards, mice, headsets, and much more. Even though you can grab some of these products at a steal, they'll still last you a long time--and new hardware won't make them obsolete.

One thing the PC has on consoles is the sheer number of game sales happening at any given time. Steam, the Epic Games Store, Green Man Gaming, Fanatical, GOG, and many more retailers are always offering deals on PC games, making it incredibly easy to never pay full price for any game you want.

Remember When We Discovered A Secret Move That Changed Gaming?

4 years 1 month ago

Despite being a relatively new medium, the history of video games is punctuated with fascinating cultural events, captivating stories, and landmark moments. As well as being historically significant, each of these often creates a ripple effect that goes on to redefine the medium in some regard. Most will know the basic details--the whos, whats, and whens--of it all, but it's rare to hear about how it affected people.

Remember When is a new video series about just that. It's a show about rediscovering landmark moments in video games and exploring their histories, but also delving into the impact they had on the people that were there and experienced them first-hand.

Episode 1 is all about the Hadouken, a secret move that has become fundamental to the design of games within the genre, and games as a whole. Equally important, however, is how it galvanized a passionate gaming community that lives on today, stronger and more connected than ever.

Devil May Cry 3 Switch Patch Fixes Data Corruption, Ranged Weapon Damage

4 years 1 month ago

The classic character-action game Devil May Cry 3 finally made its way to Nintendo Switch on February 20, but some fans have reported a nasty data corruption bug that required them to start their game over entirely. Capcom has rolled out a patch to fix the issue, along with upgrades for ranged weapons not applying in the new Free Style mode, which is exclusive to the Switch version.

According to a Reddit post, the data corruption was caused by playing a few missions in the optional Vergil campaign and then attempting to play a Free Style Dante file. The bug caused Dante to T-pose helplessly, which made it impossible to progress in the game.

Originally released in 2005, Devil May Cry 3 is generally considered the best game in the series, as well as one of the standout action games on the PS2. It's also notable for being one of the most brutally difficult games of its era. In our review, Greg Kasavin decried the game's "near-vertical learning curve," but insisted that the experience was worth it: "Anyone who perseveres long enough to learn the ropes will probably agree that Devil May Cry 3 is one of the best PlayStation 2 action adventure games since the original."

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Patch Notes For New Update Coming This Week

4 years 1 month ago

Following in the wake of Star Wars Battlefront 2's free major Age of Rebellion update, EA plans to roll out a minor patch for the game on Wednesday that stomps out some bugs and changes minor elements.

One of the most-requested changes is entirely cosmetic--this patch will ensure that all troopers and heroes are dressed in their correct planet-specific gear across each multiplayer map, including the new ones. It will also allows players to randomize their officer's head in co-op. The majority of the remaining changes are intended to fix tiny bugs, such as AI pathfinding errors on certain maps, or a rare matchmaking bug that puts every player on the server on the same team.

The Age of Rebellion update launched in late February, and introduced new weapons, characters, and maps, all themed around the original film trilogy. This includes a playable crossbow-toting Ewok Hunter and a duel-wielding ISB Agent. It also tweaked a number of the game's major heroes, including Leia.
