Atelier Marie Remake Guide Trailer

Koei Tecmo released a new trailer for Atelier Marie Remake. The video acts as a guide of what to expect in the game, which is split into three sections: exploration, combat and story.

The exploration portion of the guide trailer talks about gathering materials for synthesis by heading to different portions of the map. It also shows off how synthesis works when visiting the atelier. The combat portion shows off various battle mechanics, including the flee command when a dragon shows up. The story portion introduces the cast of Atelier Marie Remake, including Schea, Kreis, Ruven and Schwalbe. It also confirms there will be different endings depending on your actions.

The new guide trailer also emphasises Atelier Marie Remake’s new Ultimate Mode as an option. This mode will remove the game’s time limits, allowing players to enjoy the game as they see fit.

Here's the full trailer:

While Atelier Marie Remake is being released soon, it may not be the end of Atelier remakes. Executive Officer Junzo Hosoi confirmed that they would be interested in giving other titles in the Atelier series the same remake treatment. He stated that the company's goal is to have the entire series available in digital stores.

Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg releases on July 13, 2023. It will be released for PS5, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.

Dave the Diver Review – A Tasty Dose of Vitamin Sea

Dave the Diver for PC

For quite some time now, I’ve been looking for a good ole’ classic slice-of-life game with a somewhat linear storyline. I’ve already had my fill with the likes of farming simulators and wanted something fresh that didn’t necessarily involve the restoration of my grandfather’s old business. Then, out comes Dave the Diver, which ultimately feels like two games rolled into one, as you take on the role of a diver by day and help run a sushi restaurant by night.

The first time I dove into the watery world of Dave the Diver, I was instantly hooked by its whimsical dialogue, vibrant 2D graphics, and addicting gameplay. However, despite the character’s 2D design, the landscape takes a different shape through its 3D environment, changing the dynamic of the overall art style. You’ll meet Dave, who often gets a double look due to his big-boned appearance, but he never lets the insults get to him and continues taking down the sea’s most fearsome creatures.

As a diver, players must collect fish for Bancho’s restaurant during the day, accumulating the chef’s inventory for the night. While it may seem like there isn’t much to do in the sea, there’s actually a whole world down in the Blue Hole that is full of life and wonders. Each fish offers a different challenge every time, where you’ll need to strategize your actions in order to bring them down successfully.

10 Handsome Pokemon I Would Perhaps Like to Date Someday

10 months 1 week ago

Pokemon training can be a lonely endeavor. Scouring the verdant plains in search of willing challengers, gym badges, or in the case of Paldea, literally anything of interest whatsoever.

It’s enough to drive one mad, mad I say! But fear not, weary travellers, for I have gone on a Pokemon journey of a different kind. I have scanned the vast catalogue of pocket monsters not for the fiercest battlers or the rarest beasts. Nay, I have instead elected to narrow down the ten most unreasonably handsome Pokemon for your enjoyment/bewilderment/abject horror.

Were I to spot them on a dating app, I would most assuredly swipe right. Best be wary, however, as I have been Whiscash’d on more than one occasion, and nothing is worse than having to go out for drinks with a deceitful fish who keeps causing earthquakes. Such a hassle!

Starfield Fans Are Really Hyped About its Rocks

10 months 1 week ago

Out of the legion of things to be excited for, it appears that Starfield’s fans are veritably fizzing at the bunghole to behold and experience the game’s… rocks. Yep, you read that right.

Indeed, over on Reddit right now, there’s an entire thread dedicated to celebrating how magnificent the space RPG’s rock formations are. I mean, whatever floats your interstellar boat, right?

Amazingly, the post boasts 2.3k upvotes at the time of writing, so for those thinking it’s just a sole geologist who’s just rocked up with an incredibly niche fascination with stones, you’d largely be off base. In fact, speaking of geologists, it wasn’t long before the ol’ rock scientists got in on the action.

7 FPS Games To Play While You Wait For XDefiant To Release

10 months 1 week ago

The XDefiant Open Session gave FPS fans another opportunity to dive into Ubisoft San Francisco’s arena shooter but, as quickly at it opened up, it’s closed and players have to wait for the full release later this summer. As a result, we’re looking at opportunities to fill the void.

We don’t have a specific release date for XDefiant just yet, with the devs only promising a summer 2023 release. They’ve already revealed a pre-season and Year 1 though, so there’s a huge amount to look forward to. However, it’s not here yet so the fans waiting for it will likely be looking for games to play in the meantime. That’s where we can help. Here are 7 first-person shooters you can play while we wait for XDefiant to launch.

Naturally, this list is subjective and you might not be a fan of all the games. We’re trying to diversify our picks and suggest a variety of FPS titles to satisfy everyone. They’ve also got a lot in common with XDefiant, so they could also be the perfect way to warm up for the game’s full release.

Playing Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Gives Me New Hopes & Dreams For Pokemon Games

10 months 1 week ago

With the release of Tears of the Kingdom, I finally decided that it was time to give the Zelda franchise a go. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised with the level of care put into this title and impressed with how suitable it was to both longtime franchise fans and newcomers alike.

After spending many hours enjoying everything Tears of the Kingdom offers, I’ve found plenty of little details and mechanics to admire. This has led me to consider how similar features may work in other Nintendo titles.

The main franchise that comes to mind as a suitable candidate for Zelda comparisons is the Pokemon game franchise, a fan-favorite Nintendo collection that I’ve been fully invested in since I was just a little kid on my limited edition Pikachu Game Boy Color.

There’s no denying that Pokemon has had several ups and downs when it comes to its video game lineup, from disappointments such as the devastating cut of the National Dex and the buggy, unfortunate release standard of the most recent titles and remakes, to the more positive notes such as the adorable new Pokemon designs and intriguing first steps Scarlet and Violet took towards a new direction and approach to the series.

Sonic Origins Plus Review – Bells & Whistles (& Knuckles)

10 months 1 week ago

Sonic Origins Plus for Nintendo Switch

Indulge me for a moment, to give you a brief viewpoint into my origins as a gamer. Though my beginnings were firmly rooted in the treasured catalogue of the Super Nintendo, my very identity was shaped by the notion that Genesis Does.

Sonic the Hedgehog and his ilk embodied everything that a radical 90s kid would cling to immediately, defined by his sleek visage and devil-may-care attitude. Of course, without the actual portfolio to back it up, you could only get so much mileage out of biting wit (hello, Bubsy).

In his earliest offerings, Sonic was a can’t-miss prospect, providing thrilling, unique gameplay at a breakneck speed. The compelling level design and fast-twitch reactions have become ingrained within a generation, and over 30 years later, many of us are still viewing these games with absolute reverence. So when Sonic Origins first launched across all platforms last year, we giddily gobbled up this latest rerelease of the hedgehog’s golden years in a compilation of Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD.

Admittedly, a “Sonic’s greatest hits” package is nothing new, between Sonic Jam, Sonic Mega Collection, Sonic Gems Collection, and any number of Sega Genesis anthologies we’ve seen over the years. This is where its newest DLC additions look to ramp up the stakes, delivering the eponymous “Plus” in Sonic Origins Plus. Have they done enough to shake the cobwebs from these classics of yesteryear? Let’s take a trip down those loops once more to decide…

Just Cause Mobile Cancelled

Square Enix has canceled Just Cause Mobile, its upcoming free-to-play game.

In a statement to VGC, Just Cause global brand lead Anne-Lou Grosbois-Favreau confirmed development has now been stopped on the mobile action game. “It is with great sadness that we are announcing the end of development for Just Cause Mobile,” she said. “As of tomorrow, 3 July 2023, the game will no longer appear on digital stores.”

Just Cause Mobile had previously been available in early access, however, the game has now been removed from Google Play stores. It was due to launch later this year.

“It is never easy to put forth an announcement of this nature, especially to our fans who have been awaiting the release,” said Grosbois-Favreau. “We sincerely appreciate the support you have given us.”

Just Cause Mobile was announced at The Game Awards in 2020 but was pushed back several times since this announcement. It was described as a top-down isometric shooter set within the Just Cause universe and was going to offer a full story campaign along with 30-player competitive multiplayer as well as four-player co-op missions.

A premium currency, Blue Diamonds, was available to purchase during early access but will now be refunded in full. “Please note that any Blue Diamonds purchased during the Regional Early Access have been refunded in full to your Google Play Account on February 24, 2023.”

Just Cause 4 was the franchise's latest release back in 2018, with fans hoping the upcoming mobile game would give them a new Just Cause story until the next mainline game.

Yoko Taro Lost His Emil Mask and His Replacement Is a Bit Terrifying and Quite Possibly Cursed

Yoko Taro, the director behind such games as Nier: Automata and Drakengard, revealed he lost the iconic mask he wears in public that is modeled after one worn by Nier's Emil. As if that wasn't tragic enough, the replacement leprechaun mask he chose for the time being is actually a bit terrifying and quite possibly cursed.

As reported by Kotaku, Taro was attending Anime Expo 2023 in Los Angeles so he could host a panel about his upcoming anime, KamiErabi God.app, and the mask was lost the night before his panel while he was out drinking.

Yoko%20Taro%20and%20his%20Emil%20mask%20before%20he%20lost%20it.%20Image%20Credit%3A%20Christian%20Petersen%2FGetty%20Images

Taro claims he didn't lose the Emil mask, but instead, the blame fell to a producer from Fuji TV he shared a drink with. Taro then asked the producer to find him a new mask, but that turned out to be a difficult challenge.

After some time, they happened upon the large leprechaun mask you can see below at a Los Angeles costume store.

Doomblade asks us: what if a weird little gal had a hellsword?

There are games about being a weird little guy, and then there are games about being a weird little gal infused with the power of a vengeful demonic sword. Doomblade is both metal and kind of cute, and it's held my interest longer than the average platformer or metroidy castley oh my god do we seriously not have a better word for this yet.

The main thing marking it out, apart from its style, is that instead of stabbing monsters, you attack by hovering the cursor (actually the shimmery face of the sword's spirit) over them and clicking, which launches your little globby shadow man directly at them. You can probably already imagine that this is also a means of getting around the world.

If Found… and pushing back on shame

"Have you ever been on a crowded train with one of your best gay friends and, inside, a tiny part of you is cringing because he is being so gay?"

That's a question posed by my favourite drag queen and Ireland's self-proclaimed gender discombobulator, Panti Bliss, in a biting speech about "checking" herself. What she's "checking" is something most queer people "check" for in public, whether they realise it or not: their own queerness. Am I standing too gay? What about these colourful socks? Are they too much? Will holding a partner's arm in public turn into a problem? Something private and intimate altered into something shameful or political, all through other people's reactions.

That feeling's best thought of as the tension between who people expect us to be and who we really are... or who we're trying to become. Imagined futures are projected onto our bodies like film reels, blurring the skin that lies beneath. That tension feels a lot like shame. But, while video games usually have all the subtlety of a sledgehammer busting through a wall, they're occasionally a great place to explore queer topics, letting us role-play as whoever we want to be or explore those unique experiences in unique ways.

Persona 5 Tactica Trailer Reveals New Playable Character

Atlus may have accidentally given fans a little more bang for their buck by revealing a new playable character in Persona 5 Tactica's latest trailer.

As reported by Game Rant, a two-minute character spotlight trailer (above) breaking down the moves and abilities of Joker, Mona, and Erina also revealed a character called Toshiro that will seemingly be playable in the game.

Only viewable briefly, at about 36 seconds into the trailer, the mission objective is to "have Toshiro reach the target destination". The bottom right corner of the screen, where playable characters like Joker and Mona have their health bars, also shows what's presumably Toshiro.

This character has a much smaller health bar than the others though, and also doesn't have any MP or an "Action" available to use, meaning it could just be an escort mission. Toshiro doesn't appear in the trailer again, so fans will just have to wait and see whether or not his character has any more importance.

The trailer otherwise shows off what players can do when controlling the other characters. Joker has a long range, single use pistol and a special ability called Phantom Judge that can deal big damage even to guarding enemies.

Mona's wind abilities allow him to knock enemies out of cover, ready for a follow-up from teammates, while his Winds of Time ability deals damage across a huge area. Finally, Erina can target multiple enemies with her weapons and has a special ability called Flag of Freedom that both heals nearby allies and weakens nearby enemies.

The Lara Croft Collection is a proper treat on Switch

The Lara Croft Collection has just landed on Switch, bringing together top-down arcade treats Lara Croft & the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft & The Temple of Osiris. We decided to have a chat about these fascinating and playful parts of the Tomb Raider back catalogue.

Chris: Hello! I thought it might be a good opportunity to talk Tomb Raider with you, since it's a series we both love, and these games that have just come out are a weirdly interesting entry point to them.

I see this series as sitting between the original trilogy that Crystal Dynamics did and then reboot trilogy, which I know you love - except for the last game. Anyway, starting off simply, are you a fan of this style of Tomb Raider? And how would you describe it? It feels like an arcadey, almost twin-stick take on a series which is generally a bit more cinematic, often a bit more willing to take its time with things?

Super Mario RPG Remake Isn't Bringing Back Original Director

Nintendo isn't bringing back Super Mario RPG's original director for the Nintendo Switch remake.

As reported by Eurogamer, Chihiro Fujioka has revealed he won't be returning for the remake but is excited about it nonetheless.

"I am not involved in the remake", Fujioka said to a fan on Twitter who asked of his involvement. "But I am very surprised and pleased with the news."

Super Mario RPG, which was developed by what's now Square Enix and released for SNES in 1996, followed Mario, Bowser, and Peach as they set out to repair the wish-granting Star Road.

While Fujioka isn't returning, Nintendo is bringing back at least one other member of the original development team, as beloved video game composer Yoko Shimomura has announced her return.

The remake was announced during June's Nintendo Direct, with Nintendo promising a complete overhaul of the original game's graphics when it launches on November 17.

"Originally released on Super NES, Super Mario RPG has been overhauled with new graphics! Join Mario, Bowser, Princess Peach, and original characters Mallow and Geno, in an RPG filled with twists, turns and treasure," read an announcement statement.

Diablo 4 has been out for a month now, and as players work their way through the campaign or the endgame with characters either at or approaching the level cap, the community is digging into the detail of how Blizzard’s action role-playing game actually works. But there are some rabbit holes players perhaps need not go down.

This week, some Diablo 4 players convinced themselves the game’s rats lead players to better loot. In a sort of reverse Pied Piper situation, redditor zerger45 took to the Diablo 4 sub to declare: “FOLLOW THE RATS.”

“Okay this is going to sound really bizarre, but you need to follow the rats for good loot,” zerger45 claimed in the post, which has 8,400 upvotes.

“Don’t follow the predetermined path in any dungeon, instead, just follow the rats. The rats smell the cheese! I’m telling you it’s real and I feel like I’m crazy but I found multiple legendaries doing this within a span of maybe 10 minutes. The rats will tell you which pack of enemies to kill, and then they wander towards where you need to go! It’s real I’m not crazy! FOLLOW THE RATS.”

Persona 3 Reload Trailer Reveals Party Members' New English Voices

Persona 3 Reload will see Atlus remake absolutely everything from the 2006 RPG and, as revealed in a new trailer, this includes bringing in a new voice cast.

Atlus released a gameplay reveal trailer for Persona 3 Reload (despite the initial trailer featuring gameplay) that showcases a handful of the game's party members and their new voices.

Heather Gonzalez, who played Mineru in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Malaya in Octopath Traveler 2, will take on the role of Yukari Takeba, previously played by Michelle Ruff.

Another prominent inclusion is Zeno Robinson, who played Sakaki in My Hero Academia, as Junpei Iori, previously portrayed by Vic Mignogna.

Aleks Le will also replace Yuri Lowenthal as the protagonist, Allegra Clark will replace Tara Platt as Mitsuru Kirijo, Alehandro Saab will replace Liam O'Brien as Akihiko Sanada, and Suzie Yeung will replace Paula Tiso as Fuuka Yamagishi.

The gameplay reveal trailer (above) acts as an introduction to these various characters, and shows the protagonist chatting with them, running around school, and battling Shadows.

Interview: Talking About Mineko's Night Market's Cat, Characters, and Crafting

Mineko's Night Market is a game we've seen appear and reappear over the years. Following its reveal in 2017 and Nintendo Indie Showcase appearances after, we've essentially seen it grow. Now ahead of its September 2023 debut, we spoke to Meowza Games Co-founder Brandi Kobayashi about Mineko's Night Market's characters, cats, and crafting.

What got you into developing video games?

Brandi Kobayashi: Video games have always been a huge part of both of our lives, so the interest in making them was always there. Brent [Kobayashi] was hired as an artist at Tiny Speck, who made the game Glitch, and later he moved on to an art director position at Spry Fox (Alphabear, Road Not Taken). We had the idea for Mineko’s Night Market while on vacation and immediately started experimenting. Shortly after, Meowza Games was born!
