Latest Zelda Tears of the Kingdom patch removes duplication glitches

The latest 1.2.0 patch for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has removed item duplication glitches previously discovered by the community.

The update, which became available yesterday, fixes issues relating to certain quests and various other bugs but unfortunately also prevents players from being able to make money quickly.

The methods previously reported on Eurogamer, one using thrown weapons and another using frozen meat, now do not work in version 1.2.0 of the game. I've tested this myself, and am grateful I already cashed in 40k before I updated my version.

Diablo 4 player stumbles upon apparent supersized Butcher

A Diablo 4 player has found what appeared to be - initially at least - a giant version of the game's terrifying Butcher enemy.

The Butcher, an infamous enemy from the first game, can randomly spawn in any dungeon, at any level, and is a particularly nasty foe to defeat.

Reddit user IronHeart_777 discovered a giant "beast of a Butcher" while running nightmare dungeons with friends, but don't worry - it's not actually a new version of the enemy.

Imbibitor Lunae Will be Imaginary 5-Star in Honkai: Star Rail

dan heng honkai star rail imbibitor lunae

HoYoVerse released the pull art for Imbibitor Lunae, who will be a new 5-star character in Honkai: Star Rail. Since it usually reveals playable characters a version in advance, he will be likely one of the two new units to pull for from the gacha in Version 1.3. Imbibitor Lunae will be an Imaginary Destruction character.

According to the description for him, Imbibitor Lunae is the High Elder of the Luofu. He's also the one who carries on the Azure Dragon’s legacy. His job was to guard the Ambrosial Arbor. Lore that you can collect on the Luofu implies that he caused something terrible to happen and had to leave. This is why he's running from his kin and traveling on the Astral Express.

This is the 5-star version of Dan Heng, who’ll be a separate unit in-game, but the same character in the story. It’s a little similar to how the battlesuits worked in Honkai Impact 3rd. The Herrscher of Thunder and Herrscher of Origin are different characters with different kits in combat. However, they were both the same character: Raiden Mei.

Ubisoft are suspending The Division 2 players who used an exploit for extra XP

Ubisoft have started to dish out two-week suspensions to players in Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 over an XP exploit. Players were apparently joining the game’s roguelike Descent mode partway through matches via a loophole in Ubisoft Connect’s interface. The team says the bug yielded an “unfair amount of XP and SHD levels,” hence the penalties.

Persona 3 Reload Won't Include the Original's Most Frustrating Mechanic

Persona 3 Reload players won't have to worry about the original game's most frustrating features as Atlus isn't including broken social links in the remake.

As reported by Noisy Pixel, director Takuya Yamaguchi told Famitsu the developers are removing the ability to break social links but will keep the potential to reverse them.

For those unfamiliar, social links are the connection the protagonist has with fellow party members, where hanging out in the social simulator side of Persona powers up their abilities in the dungeon crawling part.

Much like real life, saying something horrible to a friend, hanging out with someone else after making plans, or ignoring them for weeks on end would result in a falling out, and the social link would reverse or eventually break as a result.

"In [Persona 3 Reload], the Broken system has been removed," said Yamaguchi. "However, Reverse can still happen, though the conditions have been made severely less strict, so simply leaving a social link character alone will not cause it to Reverse, as it did in the original version."

Atlus removed the feature for Persona 4 and Persona 5, so while it may still be in the remake on some level, fans of the later games will seemingly find an experience closer to those.

Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Player Harnesses the Power of Perpetual Flight

A The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player has harnessed the power of a handy glitch to create the game’s first perpetual flying machine, which makes use of zero batteries or despawning parts.

Following the release of Tears of the Kingdom, the Zelda community has watched in awe as the most creative-minded have bent Link’s newfound Ultrahand building ability to their will in order to create technological marvels that would make Purah herself turn green with envy.

So far the Ultrahand arms race has given rise to the creation of fully functional Gundams, tanks, classic cars, and some of the most questionable stick men you’ll ever see. However, many of these creations come with one major drawback: they are prone to burst into nothingness the moment their zonite components exceed their all too short shelf lives, or be rendered useless when Link’s batteries run dry.

Someone Complained to Ad Standards That a Diablo 4 Billboard Reminded Them of the ‘Hell’ of Lockdown

Advertising standards officials have dismissed a complaint about a Diablo 4 “Welcome to Hell” billboard displayed in Melbourne.

The unnamed complainant contacted the Australian Ad Standards Community Panel to say the billboard “brought back memories of the hell of the two years of lockdowns in Melbourne”.

The person also accused the advert of causing offense to Christians and Catholics, and “promoting evil and satanic paraphernalia”.

“The words 'welcome to Hell Melbourne' as part of the advertisement for this game and a picture of a devil are offensive to me as a Christian,” reads the complaint.

“The imagery is also inappropriate for my children to see and has already given them nightmares. The imagery is frightening to children as the demonic looking character is staring at the camera, creating the effect of staring at the observer. It is located in an prominent position beside a busy freeway where children have a clear view of the very large Billboard.

“I feel it's inappropriate to show such disgusting and disturbing content on a billboard where children are seeing this on a daily basis. It has no context and for an adult of 43, I found it unsettling.

Xbox and Bethesda Attending Gamescom 2023

Xbox and Bethesda are officially locked in for Gamescom 2023, meaning fans attending the event may get a chance to play Starfield ahead of its September 6 launch.

Gamescom itself announced the news in a tweet (below). "Breaking. Xbox and Bethesda will join us on the show floor for Gamescom 2023," it said. "More details soon."

Xbox is a regular exhibitor at the convention in Germany, having shown up every year in a time when PlayStation hasn't. Sony is yet to confirm if it will attend the 2023 show.

Sony last appeared in 2019, opting not to have a presence at the digital-only show caused by COVID-19 or the subsequent events. Nintendo was in the same boat, but confirmed in April it would return to Gamescom in 2023.

Don't expect Destiny to conclude with an Avengers-style team-up alongside the Hive

As Destiny hurtles towards the conclusion of its decade-long storyline, Bungie has discussed how it all might end - and addressed some recent criticism of how big story revelations have been handled.

"The Hive has still committed a lot of, you know, genocide," senior narrative designer Robert Brookes told Dexerto, pouring cold water on the Guardians and the Hive suddenly becoming besties.

There's a The Last of Us rip-off on Nintendo eShop, so of course I played it

Last year, we saw a God of War rip-off turn up on Xbox. Now, we have another PlayStation rip-off turning up on another console. In this case, it is Naughty Dog's The Last of Us on Nintendo Switch.

Yes, that's right. If you head over to the eShop right now, you can get your hands on The Last Hope - Dead Zone Survival, an "intense storyline game set in an apocalyptic world overrun by hordes of ravenous zombies". Launched on 30th June, it normally costs £8.99 but is currently on sale for just 99p.

Having played The Last Hope myself, I would advise saving your pennies for something more worthwhile. Toothpicks, perhaps. You can see a trailer for The Last Hope below (and if you were still interested in playing the game afterwards, please note there are spoilers for The Last Hope below).

Final Fantasy XIV and Endwalker on Sale Again

Square Enix announced that both Final Fantasy XIV Complete Edition and the Endwalker expansion are on sale again. However, this time there is a limit. The deals are only available on Steam as part of the retailer’s annual Summer Sale. The PlayStation Store and Square Enix Online Store are selling both the game and expansion for their normal prices.

These are standard 50% off discounts. This means the Final Fantasy XIV Complete Edition is on sale for $29.99 instead of $59.99. That gets someone the base game, Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker. You also get 30 free days to play the game.

As for Endwalker, there are two options for it during the sale. The standard version of the game is $19.99 instead of $39.99. You can also get the Collectors Edition of the expansion for $29.99 instead of $59.99. The latter includes the Arion mount, a Death Scythe weapon for the Reaper job, and a Wind-up Porom minion.

These sorts of sales on the MMORPG aren't uncommon. For example, the last time it went on sale was in March 2023.

Final Fantasy XIV and Endwalker are available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. The Steam Summer Sale discounts on the MMORPG and expansion are only in effect until July 13, 2023.

Fu Xuan Is a Quantum Preservation Character in Honkai: Star Rail

Fu Xuan Is a Quantum Preservation Character in Honkai: Star Rail

HoYoVerse shared a second character tease for Honkai: Star Rail, with Fu Xuan taking the stage this time. This involved the splash art for the five-star unit. It also confirmed that she will use Quantum attacks and follow the Preservation path, which means she’ll use defensive abilities. Her art appearing now means we will likely see her on a 1.3 banner in the game.

We already met Fu Xuan in the Honkai: Star Rail story. She comes up during the Xianzhou Luofu Trailblaze Missions. She is head of the Divination Commission and is capable of using the Luofu’s Matrix of Prescience to determine things that are going to happen. She features most prominently in the “Omniscient Inquiry of Arcana” mission. However, we don’t actually get to see her fight.

This is the second 1.3 character to be teased. We also saw Imbibitor Lunae. He'll also be a five-star unit. However, he is a Destruction path person who uses Imaginary damage to attack foes.

Diablo 4 Players Come Up With Cool Theory to Explain Terrifying Giant Butcher

If you’ve been lucky (unlucky?) enough to have been graced by the presence of Diablo 4’s infamous The Butcher, you may have noticed he appeared larger than you expected. Or perhaps he grew in size as you fought, likely in vain, to survive.

It turns out there’s an explanation for this Giant Butcher, and it suggests all enemies are similarly susceptible to enlargement.

Our story starts with a Reddit post from a confused IronHeart_777, who ran into a Giant Butcher while killing demons in a Nightmare Dungeon. Alongside posting a screenshot of this larger than virtual life demon, IronHeart_777 asked: “So uh… anyone know why we found a Giant Butcher? He appeared this big…”

Strange! But there’s more. Icy-Veins subsequently reported on a video from streamer Vinsonte showing one Diablo 4 player surprised by a Butcher encounter, but this time the imposing beast grew bigger over the course of the fight, starting off default size before growing large enough to dominate the screen.

These player reports sparked some good old-fashioned theory-crafting from the Diablo 4 community. The current theory puts the blame on a dungeon modifier (affix) appropriately called Avenger.

Tears of the Kingdom Patch Fixes Quest Progression Issues

Tears of the Kingdom Patch Fixes Quest Progression Issues

On July 4, 2023, Nintendo shared the The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom patch 1.2.0. It both adds a new feature and fixes some potential problems. People will be able to get free items via news stories seen on the console now. They’ll also find eight main story missions and sidequests are now fixed, following bugs that kept some players from finishing them.

With the free items, those are tied to the Switch News channel on the console for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Apparently, going forward Nintendo will occasionally give people items to use in-games via those news stories. Clicking the link in them to start the game can grant them. Those with the game should subscribe to ensure they see them.

As for the quest progression issues fixed in the The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom patch, the following ones now won’t abruptly keep people from completing them.

  • “Dyeing to Find It”
  • “Hateno Village Research Lab”
  • The Incomplete Stable”
  • “Lurelin Village Restoration Project”
  • ”A Mystery in the Depths”
  • “Secret of the Ring Ruins”
  • “Seeking the Pirate Hideout”
  • “Village Attacked by Pirates”

Sakurai Said He’d ‘Love’ to Play Kid Icarus: Uprising ‘on a Bigger Screen’

Masahiro Sakurai brought up Kid Icarus: Uprising on his YouTube channel. A new episode appeared dedicated to the 3DS game. Much of it is dedicated to how he ended up working on a title for the new (at the time) handheld, design choices, and hardships faced during development. However, he also mentioned how he'd "love to play [it] on a bigger screen with smoother graphics." But he also mentioned the difficulty that would come from possibly making that happen.

Here’s Sakurai’s full quote about his thoughts on the title and a possible sequel.

It’s a shame that it’s only lived on 3DS, as I’d love to play on a bigger screen with smoother graphics, but without a team around to work on it, crafting a follow-up seems difficult.

This is the full "Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games" episode discussing the title. He talked about it how he'd "love" to see it on a "bigger screen" at the 12:17 mark.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-uwRfckTs4&ab_channel=MasahiroSakuraionCreatingGames

This isn't the first time Kid Icarus: Uprising came up during "Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games." He discussed it during a November 2022 episode too. In that one, he also mentioned how “it sure would be nice to play [the game] on a home console.” He also wondered if it would ever get a port.

Exo Rally Championship promises a hardcore space race like no other

On the day of our interview, Exo Rally Championship programmer and composer Rhys Lindsay was preparing for a race on a hostile alien planet, and feeling pretty good about his chances. He spent a full three minutes surveying the pockmarked, potentially lethal landscape from above with a drone, marking the most dangerous terrain in advance and picking out a relatively safe route between the checkpoints. “Alright,” he thought. “I’m going to smash this stage.”

Of course, it’s just as they say: no plan survives contact with unroaded planets wracked by extreme temperatures, meteor showers and atmospheric pressure unlike anything ever experienced on Earth. On the corner of the first checkpoint, Lindsay flipped his rover, snagging the vehicle on a rock that immediately broke his scanning systems and left him driving blind. By the time of our chat, though, he’s laughing. Exo Rally Championship is a racer for those who like to roll with the punches, quite literally - an anecdote generator for players who adore the challenge of preparing for the worst, and then adapting to changing circumstances on the fly.

Frontier's Warhammer RTS has fast, frantic tug of war multiplayer battles, and I want more, please

This Friday on July 7th, Frontier Development's Warhammer RTS Age Of Sigmar: Realms Of Ruin is holding its first open beta test for its 1v1 multiplayer mode. Players will be able to go head to head with two of the game's four factions - the golden fantasy knights of the Stormcast Eternals and the sneaky green stink lads of the Orruk Kruleboyz - giving us our first taste of how they'll handle in battle, and the kinds of powerplays we'll be making with their respective (and rather handsome) tabletop miniature recreations.

And having played four rounds of its 1v1 matches already at a press event last week, it's quite the thrill - and I say that as someone with no real attachment to Warhammer or Age Of Sigmar's specific lore legacy. The Stormcast Eternals and their flying hammer brutes are just as devastating as you'd imagine, while the lads lads lads and their Killaboss Kruleboyz are challenging late-game bloomers that will give even hardened strategy game veterans plenty to sink their teeth into. Both factions are great fun, and I'm very much looking forward to jumping back in this weekend.

Here's What Kerbal Space Program 2 Developers Are Building in Tears of the Kingdom

When The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom first came out, one of the earliest and best jokes that circulated the community was a very specific flavor of Ultrahand building nonsense: the Korok Space Program.

Essentially, players were having fun building increasingly complex and silly vehicles to launch Koroks into the sky, or across long distances, and humorously dubbed their efforts in a clever play on space flight sim game Kerbal Space Program. The two games seem to have few simularities, but the slapstick way Tears of the Kingdom players' rockets launched, caught on fire, crashed, and generally caused mayhem was at least somewhat reminiscent of chaotic scenarios in Kerbal.

Most people probably would have let this comparison end there. I did not. I thought it was hilarious. So I reached out to the developers of Kerbal Space Program 2, and asked them to help me build my own Korok Space Program.

They said yes.

You can watch developers Brandon Orden and Tom Vinita help me build multiple vehicles in Tears of the Kingdom below. First, we launched "Billy the Korok" to a sky island above Tarry Town. From there, we tried to help him reach his friend on the ground a distance away...but may have had to modify our mission profile a bit during the process.

Following our chat, I also briefly caught up with Orden to see what he was building on his own in Tears of the Kingdom, and his own builds seem surprisingly grounded for someone with superior rocket-making capabilities. Well, okay, maybe except for the one that's on fire. Here's what he sent:

Latest Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Patch Brings Fresh Bug Fixes and Removes Yet More Duplication Glitches

Nintendo has released patch 1.2.0 for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, bringing with it a number of bug fixes, and, it would seem, a fresh wave of duplication glitch removals.

Soon after the patch was pushed out numerous community members took to social media to complain about the removal of popular duplication glitches, which have been joyfully exploited by Tears of the Kingdom players to stockpile resources and earn a boat load of rupees. While the extent of the cull has yet to become clear, some have complained about the removal of a glitch that exploited the game’s autobuild feature to furnish players with piles of valuable frozen meats.

Another glitch, which could be performed in the Tobio’s Hollow chasm, has also seemingly been patched out. This let players duplicate items by fuzing a resource to a single arrow, which, when fired by a multi-shot bow, created clones of the resource.

EA Sports FC Release Date Reportedly Revealed

EA Sports FC launches September 29, 2023, according to a new report.

Reliable leaker billbil-kun revealed the release date alongside the expected Standard and Ultimate editions of the upcoming football game. Those who buy the expensive version get a week's worth of early access from September 22, while EA Play subscribers get a 10 hour trial. IGN has asked EA for comment.

With EA’s FIFA no more, there is pressure on EA Sports FC to continue the gargantuan success the series has enjoyed over the years. Ahead of the announcement of the breakup last year, EA boss Andrew Wilson reportedly insisted the only value FIFA brought to the series was "four letters on the front of the box”. FIFA, for its part, has promised to put out its own game.

Little else is known about EA Sports FC, though it's unlikely to significantly change the FIFA formula that served EA so well. Money-spinner Ultimate Team and its controversial loot boxes are expected to continue, and EA Sports FC will retain many existing official licenses, such as the Premier League.

EA is expected to officially reveal EA Sports FC news later in July.

Grand Theft Auto V Returns to Xbox Game Pass Today

Microsoft has announced that Grand Theft Auto V returns to Xbox Game Pass starting today, July 5.

In an Xbox Wire post, Microsoft announced the next slate of games hitting its Game Pass subscription service, with Grand Theft Auto V headlining. Rockstar's critically-acclaimed open-world game is available on the console version of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

This marks the third time Grand Theft Auto V has released on Microsoft's game subscription service after debuting initially in April 2020. It was removed roughly a month later and replaced with Red Dead Redemption 2. The fifth mainline Grand Theft Auto then returned to the service in April 2021 with support for Xbox Cloud Gaming, before it was removed for the second time in August of that year.

In our 10/10 review of Grand Theft Auto V's single-player story, IGN said "Grand Theft Auto V is not only a preposterously enjoyable video game, but also an intelligent and sharp-tongued satire of contemporary America".

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin – The First Hands-On Preview

I've been nerding out over Warhammer Fantasy and 40K since before I could drive, but my relationship with Age of Sigmar, Games Workshop's most recent plane-hopping, epic fantasy spinoff has been mostly at arm's length. Realms of Ruin is an upcoming RTS that reached out a gleaming, armored fist to pull me in a bit closer. And the fact that it looks a lot like Dawn of War, aka one of my favorite RTS series of all time, made me all the more eager to reach out and grab it.

If you're not up to speed on what exactly Age of Sigmar is, I'll do my best to break it down for you quickly. The world of Warhammer Fantasy, the one we see in the Total War: Warhammer games, was completely destroyed when the ravening forces of Chaos finally won in a divisive story arc called The End Times. But not all was lost, as many key characters survived and the setting was reborn as it is in Realms of Ruin: humans, dwarfs, and orcs, mostly renamed to something Games Workshop can legally copyright but still recognizable in style and attitude, battle across a large variety of themed fantasy realms connected by giant portals called Realmgates.

EA Sports FC's release date leaks and, unsurprisingly, it's in FIFA's old September slot

It's all change this year in the world of video game football, as EA - after some seriously big-money tussling - readies what will be its first major football game not to carry the FIFA branding in nearly 30 years. And now, thanks to a new leak, we've got a good idea of when EA Sports FC will likley be showing up - which, unsurprisingly, is pretty much slap bang in the same late-September slot FIFA has occupied for the last few years.

According to data miner billbil-kun - who has a amassed a pretty compelling back catalogue of accurate calls when it comes to video game leaks (Sony's monthly PlayStation Plus line-up being a particular specialty) - EA Sports FC will release on 29th September this year.

Given that FIFA 2023 and the series entry before it both launched on 27th September in their respective release years, it's hardly a huge surprise to learn EA's new FIFA-in-all-but-name game will follow suit, but it does give us an intriguing window to watch as we prepare to see how EA Sports FC will fair without its familiar branding.

Assassin's Creed Mirage has an unlockable database for history buffs

Assassin's Creed Mirage will include an interactive history feature available in the game at launch, allowing you to delve deeper into the real world version of the game's Baghdad setting.

This option appears to be an alternative to the more involved Discovery Tour mode that popped up some time post-launch in Assassin's Creed Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla. Perhaps befitting Mirage's more condensed nature, this option too sounds less involved.

Appropriately titled the "History of Baghdad", the option is described as being similar to the series' traditional Codex, and has been built in partnership with a series of museums and international historical institutions.
