Spider-Man 2 Gets a 10-Minute Gameplay Demo at PlayStation Showcase Featuring Kraven the Hunter

In one of the most exciting reveals of today's PlayStation Showcase, Marvel's upcoming Spider-Man 2 got a 10-minute gameplay demo, the first extended look of the sequel including a close look at one of its villains, Kraven the Hunter.

The last glimpse at Spider-Man 2 came all the way back in its reveal trailer in 2021 during the PlayStation 5 Showcase. It'll have Peter Parker and Miles Morales returning to New York City to battle one of Spider-Man's most famous enemies, Venom. We see Peter Parker using the Symbiote Suit in combat, and the ability for the player to switch between Peter and Miles as they play. Miles' section featured a lot of stealth gameplay as he infilitrated a warehouse full of enemies, and he eventually meets up with Peter and comments on the Symbiote Suit before the two join up for a chase sequence.

A PS Blog post confirms that we did indeed see Kraven the Hunter at the start: he's beginning his Great Hunt for an equal alongside the rising threats of the Symbiote. In the gameplay we saw, we watched Kraven's Hunters chasing down The Lizard, with Peter and Miles trying to stop them as they soar over the East River in Queens - one of multiple new boroughs included in the game.

A release date has not yet been announced, but it was previously given a Fall 2023 window, and Venom voice actor Tony Todd said in a since-deleted tweet that it would likely come out in September. Notably given his appearance in the trailer, this is fairly close to the release of the upcoming Kraven the Hunter film.

Miles Morales voice actor Nadji Jeter also recently spilled some details on the Insomniac sequel and seemingly teased a co-op mode. Insomniac, however, was quick to shoot that down, saying on Twitter that it's an "epic single-player adventure" like the previous two games in the series, Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Those two games are some of the most popular PS5 titles, so anticipatation has no doubt been high. IGN gave 2018's Spider-Man an 8.7/10 and the Miles Morales follow-up a 9.

While we're waiting for the fall and a more specific release date for Spider-Man 2, check out our full recap of all the announcements from the PlayStation Showcase.
