Elden Ring has buffed the big boy with the little horse again

A new Elden Ring patch has restored some power to Starscourge Radahn, a boss so delightful he has a whole festival celebrating him. A previous patch in mid-March made Radahn a pushover, see, and apparently that's partially because a "bug" caused the intended nerfs to go too far. So, they've fixed that bug, giving Radahn some power back, but still leaving him slightly less mighty than he originally was.

Abandoned's director speaks out following cancellation rumours

Following confusion over the project's future, the director of upcoming PS5 game Abandoned has spoken out about why developer Blue Box deleted various tweets about the game, the status of the game's prologue and his own "heartbreak" about the situation now surrounding the game's release.

Speaking to IGN, Hasan Kahraman of Blue Box Game Studios said the developer had removed older tweets about the game in a bid to keep information surrounding Abandoned up to date. "Basically, the tweets were deleted because some of the concept has changed, and I figured maybe just deleting the tweet and then tweeting more relevant information would be a better idea - which was actually not a good idea," Kahraman said.

"I have learned now just to keep them. Even if the information or concept changed, just keep the older information because people eventually will see for themselves what the difference is and then see what's more actual."

Some Activision Blizzard staff strike as vaccine mandate removed

Activision Blizzard employees have taken part in a planned strike in protest at the company's recent decision to drop its requirement that in-office staff are vaccinated.

Last week, the embattled World of Warcraft and Call of Duty maker announced it would no longer require office-based staff to have had Covid jabs, while encouraging a gradual return to in-person working over the coming months.

The decision, announced in an email by Activision Blizzard exec Brian Bulatao, was immediately criticised by staff who said it risked employees who may be immunocompromised or who lived with others who are, and was poorly timed as the US faces up to Covid's current Omicron BA2 subvariant.

Wordle Is the Second-Most-Discussed Game on Twitter So Far This Year

Earlier this year, social media was utterly dominated by little green, yellow, and black squares as everyone triumphantly (or otherwise) showed off their Wordle scores. The hype has since died down considerably, but not without pushing Wordle to the second-most-discussed game on Twitter in 2022 so far.

This is according to data shared by Twitter, which put Genshin Impact as the most-discussed game between January and March this year. Apex Legends clocked in at No.4, followed by Final Fantasy at No.5.

Despite what your timeline might have looked like in the last month, Elden Ring was only the seventh-most-discussed game for that period. That said, the conversation doesn't appear to have slowed at all, based on this graphic shared by Twitter:

Rainbow Six Mobile Brings Siege to Your Phone

Ubisoft has announced Rainbow Six Mobile, a new game that brings the core gameplay of Rainbow Six Siege to mobile devices.

Rainbow Six Mobile looks and plays like its console counterpart; it’s a 5v5 attack and defend FPS with destructible environments and a variety of specialist gadgets. Attackers use drones, explosives, and various other offensive items to push their way into the defending team’s fortified positions.

While a huge amount of Rainbow Six Mobile appears to be a near enough straight adaptation of Rainbow Six Siege, there are some notable changes. Matches are shorter as R6 Mobile is a best-of-three-rounds affair, and the HUD has been adjusted to work for mobile. It also seems, at least at launch, that there will be a smaller pool of maps and operators to pick from. Confirmed so far are classic locations Bank and Border, while Ubisoft says “the most popular Rainbow Six operators” will be included.

Incredible Buy 2 Get 1 Free Sale on Games is Now Live at Amazon

Amazon is running a pretty great “Buy 2, Get 1 Free” sale right now. Lots of items are eligible, from books and toys to furniture and musical instruments. But a ton of video games are also eligible, including new releases like Elden Ring, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, and hundreds more. If you’re mostly interested in the games, you can filter to video games on mobile, or click the "video games" category in the sidebar in a browser.

But you can mix and match, so if you can find three items you want in any eligible category, you’ll get the least expensive one free. Good stuff.

Buy 2 Get 1 Free

To take advantage of the deal, all you have to do is add the items to your cart and go to checkout. Note that only items sold by Amazon are eligible, so if they run out and the listing has a different seller, the item won’t work. You can check if all your items are eligible by adding them to your cart and looking at the top of this page. It tallies the number of items from the promotion in your cart and the running total cost.

Some of the games, like Monster Hunter Rise and Dying Light 2: Stay Human, are already on sale. Others, like Elden Ring and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins, have never gone on sale yet, so this is your first opportunity to save on them. Might as well take advantage.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition would be a timeless JRPG, if it weren't for its shonky performance

Chrono Cross was one of those Square JRPGs that never made its way to Europe at its original time of release. Heck, the first time I got to play time-travel classic Chrono Trigger was when the Nintendo DS version came out in 2009, almost 15 years after it first came out on the SNES. Chrono Cross, its semi-related but not direct sequel, has taken even longer to get here. First releasing on the original PlayStation in 1999 in Japan (and 2000 in the US), it's finally arriving on PC and modern consoles on April 7th as Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, which bundles the original game with its accompanying text-based side story Radical Dreamers that only ever released on the ill-fated Satellaview. The latter's original 4:3 pixel art looks mildly ropey blown up on today's screens, but the main game has received all the modern conveniences you've come to expect from Square Enix's recent run of retro PC ports: new HD character models, re-orchestrated music, multiple font options, and the holy grail: a fast-forward button.

Rainbow Six Mobile coming to iOS and Android devices

Ubisoft has unveiled Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Mobile, an upcoming free-to-play tactical first-person shooter mobile game from the Rainbow Six franchise.

In this new game, players will be pitted against each other in 5v5 matches, or "Attack vs Defence". Meanwhile, those on the defence team will have to ensure their intel is secure with the use of spy cameras and traps.

True Colors is just one of Microsoft's latest list of titles headed to Xbox Game Pass through the first half of April. Also on the cards are sports games Cricket 22 and MLB The Show 22, plus gothic fairytale Lost in Random and cybernoir point-and-click adventure Chinatown Detective Agency.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition review – an RPG that haunts itself

Chrono Cross is a time travel tale but it often feels more like a ghost story, albeit one rendered in dazzling, oceanic colours that give every pre-rendered backdrop the ambience of a tropical reef. Teenage protagonist Serge is gathering shells on the beach one day when he tumbles through a portal to a parallel world. This world has a different history: its version of Serge died as a child, his epitaph written in coral high above the waves. Seeking answers, Serge meets a boisterous, Australian-accented girl called Kid, and joins the hunt for a sinister, cat-headed man who is himself searching for something called the Frozen Flame.

This journey sees you warping back and forth between worlds, the basis for a narrative in which every character, place or thing is haunted by its alternative. In one reality, a vast technological complex exists far across the sea; in another, it is a ruin. In one reality, a local man has become an accomplished fisherman; in the other, he is a feverish recluse who worships a straw idol (which you can eventually recruit as a party member). In one reality, the lagoons surrounding a fairy village have been drained, thwarting access to a dragon; in the other, they have been overrun by goblins ousted from their homelands.

Return to Monkey Island Will be “Very Careful” About Previous Canon; Murray Confirmed to Return

Yesterday, Monkey Island fans got the news they’d be waiting years to hear, as creator Ron Gilbert confirmed that a new game in the series has already been in development for the last two years and that it would be released later this year. Titled Return to Monkey Island, the new game is set just after the events of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, once again starring Dominic Armato as Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty Pirate.

With the news that Return to Monkey Island would pick up after the events of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, many were wondering what exactly that meant for the three games that were released after that 1991 installment. Will there be new stories? Will all the characters we loved from those games be erased? Oh, god, what about Murray?!

These are just some of the questions fans have had over the past 24 hours. Thankfully, Gilbert has already assured fans on Twitter that Return to Monkey Island will be very careful about respecting the previous canon. More importantly, he also confirmed that Murray is indeed in the game.

Unreal Engine 5 Is Now Live Alongside Lyra, A New Playable Shooter Demo

Unreal Engine 5 Lyra City Sample Project Epic Games

Epic Games has officially released Unreal Engine 5, the game development engine it first unveiled in 2020. This is the same engine used for last year’s surprise Matrix demo, The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience

Now, it’s out and available for anyone and everyone to download and use. Plus, to get people started on their Unreal Engine 5 journey, both in development and those who want to mess with it more casually, Epic Games has released Lyra, a new playable shooter demo. You can, of course, simply play Lyra – it looks like Splitgate mixed with Fortnite shooting mechanics –  but what makes this demo unique is that it can be completely customized on the development side. This gives users the chance to tinker with lighting, platform locations, and more.

Click here to view embedded media

Epic Games also released City Sample, another Unreal Engine 5 demo, but unlike Lyra, this one isn’t playable. It’s the same city from The Matrix Awakens experience, but in this, you’ll be able to freely view the city, its buildings, its vehicles and pedestrians, and more.

Unreal Engine 5 Officially Released

Two years after Epic Games revealed Unreal Engine 5 with a gorgeous tech demo, the next-gen games engine is officially available. It's been released alongside a playable shooter, Lyra.

Unreal Engine 5 is Epic’s latest in the line of game engines available to game developers big and small. While the release of a new game engine isn’t typically news that excites folks until, well, video games start getting made with them, Epic first revealed Unreal Engine 5 with a blockbuster tech demo.

Called Lumen in the Land of Nanite, the tech demo was made to specifically demonstrate two of the marquis features of Unreal Engine 5. Lumen is a dynamic illumination tool where the light adapts to the world naturally and easily.

Nanite, meanwhile, lets developers import film-quality visual assets into the game while maintaining a real-time frame rate and without dips in fidelity.

While tech demos are a nice early glimpse at what a new engine is capable of, Lumen in the Land of Nanite shared an early look at the power of next-gen consoles and made its heroine, Lumen, popular enough to guest in Fortnite.

Hypnospace Outlaw Is Getting Not One, But Two Sequels This Year

Developer Tendershoot is releasing two sequels to '90s internet simulator Hypnospace Outlaw – and they're both due to arrive this year.

Dreamsettler is the true spiritual sequel to Hypnospace, putting players inside the internet of the early 2000s. Meanwhile, Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer is a Doom-like first-person shooter featuring a character from the original Hypnospace Outlaw.

The games were announced by Tendershoot and publisher No More Robots during their Hypnospace Next presentation and are due for release on PC and consoles.

Like Hypnospace Outlaw, Dreamsettler will have players navigating a parodic version of the internet – but where the first game was set in a '90s-like cyberspace, Dreamsettler takes aim at the early 2000s. The new game see you take on the role of a digital private investigator navigating the dawn of social media. Tendershoot promises a weird and wonderful story that's uncovered through watching videos, exploring websites, and searching files.

Slayers X takes the Hypnospace universe in a very different direction, following the character of Zane Lofton from the original game in a Doom-esque first-person shooter that retains the wacky style of Hypnospace.

Set in 2022, Lofton is now 37 and is re-releasing a game he made when he was 14. In it, he must take down the Psyko Sindikate in a fourth-wall breaking adventure (to the point where the fictional developer has a real Twitter account). While it didn't give an exact release date, Tendershoot promised that Slayers X is coming "very soon."

Meet Starfield's Peaceful Robotic Companion, VASCO

A new video from Bethesda has offered a closer look at VASCO, the first Starfield companion to be revealed.

VASCO is an expeditionary robot in the service of Constellation, which is denoted by his white and red paintwork. Based on a bipedal chassis, VASCO was designed to aid in extended overland journeys, and comes equipped with components to aid in the carrying of survival gear and payloads.

Starfield's lead artist, Istvan Pely, says that VASCO is a peaceful robot, but "does have defensive capabiulities should the need arise". The concept art shown in the video suggests Vasco's right arm houses some kind of rifle, and a square box on his should could perhaps be some kind of launcher.

Pely describes VASCO as a "reliable companion that an intrepid explorer like yourself can depend on," and "a utillitarian, heavy industrial machine well suited to the rigors of space travel."

For more from Starfield, be sure to take a look at the multiple factions that you will be able to join, how it will update an old Oblivion dialogue mechanic, and some fantastic concept art.

Lost Ark Getting a New Continent, Classes, And Raids in April and May

A ton of content is being added to Lost Ark over the next two months including a new continent, classes, and raids.

Amazon Games didn't give specific release dates in its April and May roadmap but broke the content down by each month, revealing that the new continent, South Vern, and a new martial artist class are coming this month.

South Vern is a brand new region in Lost Ark that joins Punika as the second Tier 3 continent, requiring an item level of 1340 to begin. It features new quests, characters, and stories centred around Queen Ealyn and and Knight Commander Avele.

The new class coming in April is the Glaivier, a martial artist class that uses a short spear in the Flurry stance and a glaive in the Focus stance. Players are encouraged to use both modes as different abilities activate when swapping between stances.

The second new character, the Destroyer, arrives in May. This fourth warrior advanced class wields a massive hammer and can bend gravity to its will, pulling and pushing enemies away to set up devastating attacks.

Also coming in May are the Trial Guardian Raids, a new weekly activity where players can attempt to defeat the three Trial Guardians. These enemies rotate out each week and scale to the player's item level, so Amazon Games hopes they'll provide a constant and fresh challenge.

A new Guardian raid is also coming in the form of Deskaluda, arriving as one of the most powerful in the game requiring an item level of 1415.
