Microsoft Flight Simulator Kefalonia Airport Officially Announced; Sønderborg Gets New Screenshots

2 years 4 months ago

Third-party developers had new reveals to share about upcoming airport scenery add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

We start with Scenic Routes, which officially announced Kefalonia Anna Pollatou Airport (LGKF) in Greece. The airport was teased a while ago and comes on the tail of the developer’s excellent rendition of Ljubljana Airport.

It’s definitely very a very scenic airport serving a popular holiday destination, and it hosts many seasonal flights from all over Europe in the summer.

“This airport was always underserved in the flight sim community and it was time it got the coverage it deserved and needed. The new terminal will be featured inside & out, along with our hyperRealistic ground process. You will feel every bit of this historic airport (and all of its inconsistencies).”

The developer is targeting late Q1 2022 or early Q2 for this release.

Tales of Arise Itaindo Hanko Seals Announced

2 years 4 months ago

If you love Tales of Arise, the popular JRPG by Bandai Namco will soon get some rather unique merchandise.

The Japanese company Itaindo, which is well-known for this kind of product, will release a set of hanko seals portraying the characters from the game.

If you don’t know what hanko seals are, they’re small wooden stamps that are still in widespread use in Japan, where they serve as signatures. There have been several efforts to phase them out in favor of actual signature, but they’re still rather deeply embedded in Japanese culture.

Further details about the product will be shared at a later date, but for now you can take a look at the teaser image below.

Looking forward: separating playing from earning

2 years 4 months ago

Hello! We're going to start the year off with a handful of pieces looking forward to 2022. Sometimes we'll be looking at trends we've spotted or themes that will probably be continuing to define things in games for a while. Sometimes we'll just be thinking about things we've enjoyed and where they could lead. Have a lovely new year all!

According to industry soothsayers, 2022 will be the year of NFTs in videogames. In case you've somehow yet to have the pleasure, an NFT or non-fungible token is essentially a glorified IOU bought with a cryptocurrency, an unregulated and "decentralised" digital currency mostly created by having masses of computers do hard sums at staggering energy expense as "proof of work", and stored on an online ledger called a blockchain.

Elden Ring's Character Creator Has Leaked And Fans Love How In-Depth It Is

2 years 4 months ago

Footage of the Elden Ring character creator has leaked, and fans are pleasantly surprised to find it's a much more in-depth system than that featured in Dark Souls and Bloodborne.

Leaked by YouTuber ER-SA, the character creator allows for the making of much more natural looking human characters than FromSoftware's previous games. Part of that comes from the graphical fidelity of Elden Ring; while arguably not quite on par with the PS5 Demon's Souls remake, the characters are far more comparable, and of a significantly higher quality than those seen in Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne. A comparison between recent FromSoft character creation results was posted to Twitter by fan SkeleMann:

Dying Light 2 will take 500 hours to "fully complete", devs say

2 years 4 months ago

Techland have achieved something incredible. With a single Dying Light 2 marketing Tweet, they caused the greatest mass exhalation seen, perhaps, ever. Thousands of adults were informed that to "fully complete Dying 2: Stay Human, you'll need at least 500 hours" and collectively sighed at their desks, heads in hands. Even some hurried backtracking from Techland's marketing team couldn't save us from exhaustion.

Take-Two Acquires Zynga For Nearly $13 Billion

2 years 4 months ago

Take-Two Interactive, the company behind the Grand Theft Auto series, announced that it is buying all outstanding shares of Zynga for $12.7 billion.

The publisher giant announced the news this morning with a press release that says Take-Two spent $9.86 a share to acquire Zynga, which is perhaps most famous for titles like FarmVille, Words With Friends, and the upcoming Star Wars: Hunters. Bringing Zynga under the Take-Two umbrella immediately makes Take-Two one of the largest publishers of mobile games in the world, which the press release says is “the fastest-growing segment of the interactive entertainment industry.”

“[This acquisition] unifies highly complementary businesses, including Take-Two’s best-in-class portfolio of console and PC games and Zynga’s industry-leading mobile franchises,” the press release for the announcement reads. “[It also] creates one of the largest publicly traded interactive entertainment companies in the world.”

Take-Two CEO and chairman Strauss Zelnick indicates that this acquisition will pave the way for the company to create more mobile games based on its already-popular titles on consoles and PC.

Take-Two Interactive Has Acquired Mobile Developer Zynga

2 years 4 months ago

Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption publisher Take-Two Interaction has today announced the acquisition of Zynga, the mobile game publisher behind titles such as Dragon City, Monster Legends, Top Eleven, Two Dots, and WWE SuperCard. The two companies’ combined value of $12.7 billion now creates one of the largest publicly traded interactive entertainment companies in the world.

In a press release, Take-Two highlights that the addition of Zynga’s mobile business will increase its sources of RCS, a highly-attractive revenue stream that helps reduce volatility across reporting periods that has historically been driven by the cadence of Take-Two’s console and PC release slate.

Further, Take-Two also explains other strategic benefits include the use of Zynga’s Chartboost advertising platform, which it hopes will improve new user acquisition through better audience targeting and optimize mobile advertising inventory to achieve greater yields; geographic expansion into growth markets across Asia, including India, and the Middle East, among other regions; and an enhanced focus on technological innovation and new business models that will utilize the collective knowledge of forward-thinking talent.

Take-Two expects approximately $100 million of annual cost synergies within the first two years after closing.

Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two, said:

Elden Ring Is Now Steam's Most-Wishlisted Game

2 years 4 months ago

From Software's upcoming action-RPG Elden Ring has begun 2022 with a flourish by becoming Steam's most-wishlisted game.

As spotted by Eurogamer, Elden Ring, which is directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and includes world-building elements by Game of Thrones novelist George R. R. Martin, has become Steam's most wanted upcoming release.

Slated for release on February 25, Elden Ring's move to the top of the Steam wishlist rankings ends a 12-month unbeaten streak from Techland's Dying Light 2: Stay Human, which maintained pole position throughout the entirety of 2021.

Other notable entries on the list include Recreate Games' multiplayer physics brawler Party Animals, the PC release for Santa Monica Studios' God of War, and FNTASTIC's upcoming post-apocalyptic open-world MMO, The Day Before.

As Elden Ring approaches its launch, George R. R. Martin recently spoke briefly about his time working on the game. During a blog post, Martin explained that when Miyazaki and his fellow game designers had pitched the idea of Elden Ring to him, he'd found the offer "too exciting to refuse".

Wytchwood review - a gorgeous but repetitive crafting adventure

2 years 4 months ago

I am repeatedly drawn to games with strong visuals, and Wytchwood was no exception. In its very first moment, you wake up as a witch, herself a plump figure with what looks like a pot for a head, in a hut that looks like it comes straight out of a fairy tale pop-up book. Everything from your bookshelf to the cauldron bubbling away on the hearth looks slightly two-dimensional, and yet the setting seems to be teeming with life.

To soothe the witch's creaking bones, you gather a few ingredients and learn how to mix a potion using your grimoire, a nicely intuitive process with simple controls even on consoles. An annoying goat turns out to be a demon that orders you to collect souls if you want to fulfil your contract with it - a contract the old lady unfortunately can't even remember.
