No Man’s Sky Adds NPC Settlements With Citizen Disputes And Much More

2 years 7 months ago

No Man’s Sky is a great example of a game not living up to the launch-day hype but with gradual content rollouts, finding notable success regardless. No Man’s Sky got a new lease on life with literally game-changing mechanics like base-building. In a similar vein, the sci-fi open-world(s) title is getting more features, like Star Wars-like settlements laden with NPC townsfolk. You’ll help settle citizen disputes, utilize hundreds of new base parts to build your own establishments, and explore a graphically updated universe. All of this launches today!

Sean Murray, the founder of Hello Games, took to the official PlayStation Blog to announce the aforementioned additions to No Man’s Sky’s loop. Procedurally generated communes give the lonely vastness of space a much-needed lived-in quality. These towns can be discovered on every inhabited planet. You can submit management credentials to become a settlement overseer, giving you access to town planning, treasury management, policy decisions, and conflict resolution. “Ungoverned settlements start small and modest, with a sparse population and only a few buildings scattered around their town center,” Sean writes. “Provide resources to construct new buildings and transform your ramshackle collection of dwellings into a flourishing town!”

Life Is Strange TV Show Adds Shawn Mendes To Oversee The Adaptation's Music

2 years 7 months ago

Announced back in 2016, the upcoming Life is Strange TV show from Legendary has been strangely quiet about any updates regarding the adaptation, leading many fans to wonder if the project was canceled and others to forget its existence entirely. While we don't have a trailer or a first look to share today, there is a small update about the upcoming series, namely that Grammy Award nominee Shawn Mendes has signed on to oversee the adaptation's music.

Mendes' music career entails hits like Treat You Better, and the songwriter definitely has a talent for creating from an emotional place, which is perfect given the nature of the Life is Strange series. Mendes will be joined by Andrew Gertler, his manager, in oversight for the adaptation's music.

We still don't know anything about what the Life is Strange TV show will have in store, such as plotlines or casting decisions. However, The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that Legendary Television and dj2 Entertainment are still producing the series, with Anonymous Content as co-producer.

Destiny 2's hot new fashion is a trypophobia horrorshow

2 years 7 months ago

If you feel squicked out looking at a lotus pod or dread seeing a boat covered in barnacles, then congrats, you're experiencing the maybe-real sensation of trypophobia. It's one of the phobias coined on the Internet, a fear or unease seeing dense clusters of holes. Perhaps you encountered this with ye olde Photoshopped image of a breast with lotus pod holes. Now I'm excited for more people to discover the horror through the new Iron Banner armour sets added to Destiny 2 this week.

No Man's Sky is also a sci-fi city management simulation now

2 years 7 months ago

No Man's Sky has gone and outdone itself again. Earlier this month, studio head Sean Murray called the Frontiers update "a missing piece of the sci-fi fantasy that we’ve always wanted to add," and I admit I didn't pick up on the hint. I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't that the Frontiers update would add huge planetary settlements, tons of new base building pieces, Sentinel settlement raids, and the ability to become arbiter and overseer of the local settlement too. No Man's Sky's update 3.6 has launched today with all that and a lot more.

Between the bone-rattling screams of “How is it already September!?” and “Wow, 2020 Part II is going by so fast and it still sucks,” a multinational mega-corporation whispered the clarion call of “free* games.” Yes, earlier today, Sony unveiled September’s PS Plus games. The Injustice Animated Film Launches On October 19

2 years 7 months ago

What would happen if Superman turned evil? This is the frightening scenario that Injustice explores. We first played through this dark story in NetherRealm's fighting game series and then read an expanded version of it in DC's limited comic book run. On October 19, you'll be able to watch heroes try to stop the Kryptonian god through the release of the Injustice animated film on UHD, Blu-ray, and through various digital streaming portals.

A few days prior to release, DC is debuting footage at this year's DC FanDome livestream event, which will also give us deeper looks at the forthcoming Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League games – both are just as dark in tone as Injustice.

This animated film is directed by Matt Peters (Justice League Dark: Apokolips War) with a screenplay by Ernie Altbacker (Batman: Hush). The story unfolds through a vast cast of characters, many of which may not see another day.

Here's who is in the film:

Cursed To Golf is a "golf like" that's also a roguelike with over 80 holes

2 years 7 months ago

No, Cursed To Golf is not the calendar title I've given to my partner's yearly company party, although it could be. It's a "golf like" game that's also a roguelike where you move around the world by slapping shots and staying under par. I may disagree with Chuhai Labs' belief that golf is inherently fun and comprehensible, and yet somehow I sure do like where they've taken this dreaded sport. What a trick shot! Chuhai Labs introduce the foundations of purgatory golf in their new trailer here and it actually doesn't look like torture.

To the Moon's third instalment Impostor Factory is out at the end of September on PC

2 years 7 months ago

Impostor Factory, the third game in developer Freebird Games' well-received To the Moon series, will be making its way to Steam on 30th September.

Described as a "bonkers time-loop tragicomedy murder mystery thriller featuring multiple casualties and a suspicious cat", Impostor Factory is designed as a completely standalone adventure (albeit one slotting somewhere within the series' timeline), requiring no knowledge of 2011's lo-fi tearjerker To the Moon or its first proper sequel Finding Paradise.

This time around, the focus is on a man named Quincy who accepts an invitation to a "suspiciously secluded" mansion, only to discover a time machine in its bathroom. "But of course, then people start dying," explains Freebird on Impostor Factory's Steam page. "And somewhere along the way, things get a little Lovecraftian and tentacles are involved."

Here’s the Next Slate of Xbox Game Pass Titles Incoming in September

2 years 7 months ago

The Xbox Game Pass team has revealed the next slate of games coming to the popular service for both consoles & PC. It’s definitely heavier on the indie front, but does include some really excellent titles such as Nuclear Throne and The Artful Escape.

The does also include, however, one of my personal favorite Final Fantasy games. Yes, as you can tell from the featured image, the fantastic and wonderful and not divisive at all Final Fantasy XIII will be on Game Pass for consoles and PC starting on Sept. 2, AKA tomorrow. Yes, yes, I know it’s not everyone’s favorite Final Fantasy XIII but I will die on the hill defending its honor so come at me in the comments if you want to debate (and lose).

Here’s the full list with release dates:

  • Craftopia (Game Preview) (Cloud, Console, and PC) ID@Xbox – Sept. 2
  • Final Fantasy XIII (Console and PC) – Sept. 2
  • Signs of the Sojourner (Cloud, Console, and PC) – Sept. 2
  • Surgeon Simulator 2 (Cloud, Console, and PC) ID@Xbox – Sept. 2
  • Crown Trick (Console and PC) ID@Xbox – Sept. 7
  • Breathedge (Cloud, Console, and PC) ID@Xbox – Sept. 9
  • Nuclear Throne (Console and PC) ID@Xbox – Sept. 9
  • The Artful Escape (Console and PC) ID@Xbox – Sept. 9

If you’re not sure what any of these games are, you can get a bit more information about each via Xbox right here. Personally, as I mentioned above, I’d start with Nuclear Throne if you’re a fan of run and gun action games if you’re looking to give something a try and aren’t brave enough for Final Fantasy XIII (or if you already played it and enjoyed it I thank you for your service).

All 180 Episodes of Seinfeld Will Come to Netflix in October

2 years 7 months ago

Seinfeld’s deperature from Hulu and arrival on Netflix has been confirmed today by Netflix themselves. The iconic comedy series created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld, and starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richards, and Jason Alexander will be streamable on Netflix starting on Oct. 1. It’s not the spookiest way to kick off the month, but it’s certainly the funniest.

According to Deadline, the episodes will include the bits of stand-up from Jerry Seinfeld which would start and end episodes. Seinfeld joked about the announcement and thanked Netflix for “for taking this chance on us,” called the show a “crazy project” and said: “I didn’t realize we made so many of them.” (Deadline)

Seinfeld is among the most critically acclaimed and popular television sitcoms, certainly of the 90s, but also of all-time.

Marvel may often be an action-based universe full of heroes with long legacies that you know and love. We already know that Midnight Suns is introducing a new, customisable hero called Hunter and that it's a tactical game by the folks behind XCOM. It's not exactly Marvel's XCOM though. Here's a first look at Marvel's Midnight Suns gameplay in action

2 years 7 months ago

If you've been curious about XCOM developer Firaxis' foray into superhero-themed strategy following the formal unveiling of Marvel's Midnight Suns last month, some of your questions may now have answers, courtesy of an official first look at the game in action.

Marvel's Midnight Suns takes inspiration from the Midnight Sons comic book run of the mid-90s, which told the story of a band of supernatural superheroes as they battled against Lilith, Mother of All Demons. In Firaxis' game, Lilith has been resurrected by Hydra and will stop at nothing to fulfil a prophecy and bring back her master using the full force of her demonic army. In response to this hellish threat, the Caretaker chooses to reform the Midnight Sons with a few new heroes in tow - including the Avengers, who decide to revive legendary hero The Hunter, the child of Lilith and the only one known to have defeated her before.

That's the basic premise of Midnight Suns, with the ensuing action - which promises a "deeply customisable tactical battle system that rewards clever thinking with superhero flair" - sounding like a blend of card-battling turn-based combat and Fire-Emblem-style relationship building.

4 Ways Saints Row’s Reboot Can Avoid Being a GTA Clone

2 years 7 months ago

Last week, Saints Row developer Volition rolled an announcement trailer for the next installment in the franchise. To the surprise of many, it was revealed that the series would be getting a reboot and that it would simply be titled Saints Row.

Alongside the reboot news, Volition also stated that while it will focus on similar elements, including plenty of chaos, the new game will be straying away from the over-the-top antics the series became known for. Instead, the next Saints Row will center around a more grounded gang warfare-style story.

Anyone who has been around long enough knows that sounds far too familiar, as the series started out more grounded and was criticized as a GTA clone. It’s for that exact reason we’ve come up with a list of four things that Saints Row needs to do in order to avoid its previous GTA clone problem.

Lost Ark Western Launch Delayed To Early 2022

2 years 7 months ago

Korean MMORPG Lost Ark won’t be launching stateside later this year, as announced during E3 2021. Smilegate and Amazon Games are pushing the release into early 2022 to allow ample time to address gameplay and performance feedback from the technical alpha held in June. Doing so gives the teams breathing room to get the game where it needs to be without overworking the designers.

A lengthy statement posted on the game’s official Twitter account revealed that while the full launch is pushed back, a closed beta will take place November 4 through 9, giving players another chance to dive into the world of Arkesia. Those who purchased the game’s founder's pack will have access to the beta. Everyone else will have to sign up on the game’s website. Check out the initial announcement trailer to see the game in action. Just ignore the parts that say it's coming "this fall."

The Garden Path's sweet garden sim demo is like a painterly Animal Crossing

2 years 7 months ago

Sweet little garden simulation The Garden Path currently has a demo on and if you're a member of the Stardewbut fanclub you should really go ahead and download it. From the 30 mintues I've spent with it so far, it's certainly more gardening than farming, and probably shares more with Animal Crossing, really. It's managed to unlock some dusty old memories I have of watching Beatrix Potter animated VHS tapes—partially thanks to its art style and also thanks to characters whose vocabulary includes words like "coppice" and "secateurs".

CD Projekt "can't say with full certainty" its next-gen Cyberpunk and Witcher 3 updates will arrive this year

2 years 7 months ago

CD Projekt has told investors it "can't say with full certainty" that its highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3 next-gen updates will launch this year, despite the developer insisting it's still aiming for a "late 2021" release.

An enhanced edition of The Witcher 3 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S - promising the likes of ray-tracing and faster loader times - was announced last September, while a "proper" next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 was touted in June 2020.

Both were initially scheduled for launch this year, but the status of each has been somewhat unclear in light of Cyberpunk 2077's disastrous launch and the resulting studio reshuffle and revised development roadmap as CD Projekt worked to improve the base game.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns Shows Its Turn-Based Gameplay And In-Engine Cinematics in New Trailer

2 years 7 months ago

Following the recent reveal,  2K games and Firaxis Games released a new trailer of Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

This time around we get a look at the first gameplay of the upcoming game, on top of plenty of in-engine cinematics.

As a matter of fact, despite the fact that this is the gameplay reveal, there’s more cinematics than gameplay, yet, we can certainly see that the expertise brought by the developers of the most recent games of the Xcom franchise is certainly there.

We also get official confirmation of the platforms, which are basically everything that draws electricity, PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Apparently, we don’t have to wait long for the next reveal, which will happen on September 7.

You can take a look below for some turn-based goodness.

Below you can also read a brief official description.

“When Hell awakens, only they can stop it. Rise up and join a darker order of heroes to defeat Lilith before the Darkhold is complete in this tactical RPG set in the darker side of the Marvel Universe.”

Melty Blood: Type Lumina Reveals Noel With New Gameplay Trailer & Screenshots

2 years 7 months ago

Type-moon released a brand new trailer of its upcoming fighting game Melty Blood: Type Lumina, which will soon launch both in Japan and in the west.

The trailer focuses on one of the playable characters, who is also being revealed today, Noel.

You can check it out below alongside an official description of the character from the developer and a few screenshots.

“She recently transferred to Shiki’s school as a new teacher. She metes out judgment to all blasphemers as an executor for the Holy Church.

She may not have the battle experience Ciel does, but she’s prepared to fight. Whenever faced with a weak opponent, she shows no mercy, claiming to be“weak against the strong, but overwhelmingly strong against the weak”.

At school, she exploits her appeal as an older woman to gain popularity with the boys. The girls, however, don’t seem to like her. Judging from the way she idolizes love and marriage, it’s safe to say she doesn’t have much luck with either.”
