New Diablo II: Resurrected Trailer Showcases Paladin Class

2 years 7 months ago

Earlier today, the Diablo YouTube channel followed up the release of the Barbarian trailer with a brand-new video that takes a 37-second look into the Paladin class in Diablo II: Resurrected. This melee-focused character appears to have all of the same tools from the original, just with a shiny new coat of paint.

The Paladin class is known for its physical strength and that’s on display right away in this trailer. At the start, we see the Paladin bashing an enemy with their shield in their left hand and slashing at another with the sword in their right. But as any Diablo fan knows, there’s much more to this class than running into a crowd of enemies and defeating them all with brawn alone.

There are many skills that the Paladin can learn to augment the class’ already formidable physical strength. Skills like Holy Bolt, Fist of the Heavens, and Blessed Hammer make this class arguably one of the best in classic Diablo II. In the trailer, a few of the skills are shown off absolutely laying waste to entires screens of enemies.

There’s no way to tell for sure if the Paladin class will be as good in the remake as it is in the original game, but so far this trailer is making these versatile warriors look incredibly powerful.

Diablo II: Resurrected is available for pre-order right now and is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch in just a few weeks on Sept. 23. You can find the official Paladin Class trailer for the game down below.

Varvarion Shows Its 3D Sword Fighting Action in New Trailer

2 years 7 months ago

Today developer Polygonomicon released a new trailer of its upcoming fighting action game Varvarion.

The trailer showcases a nice look at the demo that is being currently presented at BitSummit in Kyoto, Japan.

You can enjoy it below.

Varvarion does not have a release window or firm announced platforms, but the developer expects it to come “most likely” on PC via Steam.

It supports local split-screen, but the developer is also planning to implement a single-player campaign. Online multiplayer will “hopefully” come as well, but it’s not seen as a priority for now.

Here’s how the developer officially describes the game.

“VARVARION is a 3D sword fighting action game currently in development, which puts you at the center of playable, anime-styled sword fights. Flipping and dodging to evade ferocious attacks, parrying at the last possible split second to reposte with a deadly blow, and doing it all with the style and flare of an anime battle; this is what VARVARION is setting out to achieve.

Life Is Strange’s TV Adaptation Is Still Happening, Shawn Mendes to Oversee Music

2 years 7 months ago

It was announced a while back that Legendary would be working on a TV adaptation of Square Enix’s Life Is Strange, and it looks like the project is still alive and well. According to The Hollywood Reporter, singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes has been brought on to work on the project.

Along with his partner at Permanent Content, Andrew Gertler, Mendes will be overseeing music for the series. Considering that Life Is Strange has always favored more indie folk artists, it’s interesting to see what Mendes will bring to the table, as he’s primarily known for mainstream pop music.

The first game in the series was focused on Max Caulfield and Chloe Price, the former having to deal with time travel powers and using them to save people from a natural disaster in her hometown. The latest game in the series, True Colors, features a new protagonist named Alex Chen, who wields the power of empathy and is able to tell what people are feeling, and why.

The original game is available on PC and consoles, and True Colors is set to be released next week.

Townscaper review - a city-builder without rules

2 years 7 months ago

What's that? Look closer. It's water: a little eruption of it, a hopping splash of droplets. With each building you place in Townscaper, each new disturbance on its flat ocean, you get a splash of water to go along with the brisk, genial popping sound as you press the button. Pop! A ripple on the surface. And onto the next one.

Townscaper is a simple thing, as simple and clear as the face of a wristwatch. But like the face of a wristwatch, it pulls you in, its own little universe for you to peer down at and ponder for who knows how long. This is a game-like toy, an art tool in which you create - and erase, if you wish - little towns, starting with a still stretch of water and ending with busy centres, suburbs, cathedrals, tower blocks, hamlets, burgs, you name it. One button to place a building, one to remove it. Zoom in, change the colours of the next blocks you put down, drop the whole thing out to white box to make it look truly sculptural, change the position of the sun, take a screenshot, tinker away some more.

It's brilliant.

Yesterday's planned #ADayOffTwitch protest appears to have made an impact on the platform's overall viewer totals, as users aimed to make their voices heard to support marginalised streamers who regularly face hate speech and coordinated attacks from bigots on their channels.

Stats site Twitchtracker shows around a million fewer viewers were tuned into the streaming giant during its daily peak yesterday, when the platform's average peak of 4.5 million concurrent viewers sat at around 3.5 million instead.

Many streamers voiced their support for the protest yesterday, although there was squabbling among some channels which did continue to broadcast for various reasons, including some seemingly taking advantage of big names being offline.

Breath of the Wild Meets Miyazaki in This Breathtaking Artwork by Lyndon Willoughby

If you’ve ever wanted to know what it would look like if famed author and co-founder of Studio Ghibli Hayao Miyazaki got his hands on the Legend of Zelda series, then you’re definitely going to want to check out the amazing Breath of the Wild artwork that Lyndon Willoughby created.

While it was made two years ago for New York City Comic Con, Willoughby’s artwork recently came up on the Breath of the Wild subreddit in the form of a post by user tweetage. You can see the post below, which depicts Link gliding through the air around a mountain-sized Guardian.

For anyone that is a fan of Studio Ghibli or Miyazaki, one look at the poster, and the first thing that’ll come to mind is the old artwork for Laputa: Castle in the Sky. Heck, the Guardian even looks like the giant laser turrets that appear in the film.

PS5 “PlayStation Showcase” Event Announced for Next Week

2 years 7 months ago

Today Sony Interactive Entertainment announced a “PlayStation Showcase” event that will happen next week.

To be precise, the event will happen on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 1:00 pm PDT, 4:00 pm EDT, 9:00 pm BST, or 10:00 pm CEST depending on where you’re located.

It will include 40 minutes of content dedicated to PS5 “from PlayStation Studios and some of the industry’s most imaginative developers, for games releasing this holiday and beyond.”

The announcement cautions that there won’t be any announcement related to the next-generation PlayStation VR.

No further information was shared about which games will be showcased during the event, or from which developers they will be, but we do know that they will be by “big and small” studios.

With this, it’s almost confirmed that PlayStation won’t have a relevant presence at Tokyo Game Show at the end of the month. Sony Interactive Entertainment has pretty much steered clear from big events in the past couple of years, opting to do its own thing, and this appears not to be an exception.

Incidentally, the announcement does thank fans for having been “awfully patient.” You’re welcome, Sony. You’re welcome.

Of course, you can expect to read all the news here on Twinfinite as soon as they are shared.

Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain Lets You Flex Your Brainpower Against Friends and Family

2 years 7 months ago

Big Brain Academy is back with a brand new game nearly 15 years after the franchise’s last release. Nintendo has announced that Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain will be coming to the Nintendo Switch this holiday season with a multiplayer twist.

The series is all about testing your brain in various academic minigames. There are various puzzles and problems that you must use your wit, reaction time, and memory to solve as quickly as possible. It’s pretty similar to the slightly more well-known series Brain Age.

This time, in Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain, your smarts are put to the test against other players. This game will have you competing directly against family, friends, and other players online.

In the trailer, we see players engaging in various challenges in the game against each other in order to “flex their brainpower” and solve the minigames as quickly as they can. There are matching games, memory tests, math problems, and more that can be played with up to 4 players.

In addition to the multiplayer challenges, there is a single-player mode in the game that can be played to increase your best scores. You can also battle other players asynchronously using ghost data that can be saved and uploaded online.

Here’s how Nintendo describes the game:

Today, South Korean-based developer NAT Games and Japanese publisher Nexon revealed their brand new looter-shooter for PS5, PS4 and PC. Yes, a teaser trailer confirming the game’s release platforms just hit, which you can check out in all its glory down below:

From the looks of things, Project Magnum – which is currently just a working title – appears to be a co-op looter-shooter that pits a team of players against futuristic robots that are reminiscent of the squid-like sentinel critters from The Matrix. The third-person shooting action looks slick and cinematic, and the project appears to be a AAA-tier title with echoes of Destiny, The Division and Devil May Cry.

While Project Magnum was announced back in August, specific platforms were not yet confirmed. Today, we now know that the title will be officially coming to PS5, PS4 and PC.

El Shaddai: Ascension Of The Metatron review: style wrestles with substance

Ten years after it was first released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, El Shaddai: Ascension Of The Metatron has finally arrived on Steam as a PC port. It's a strange re-emergence for a game that wasn't exactly a smash-hit back in the day, but hey, it had sweet visuals. And I'm happy to say it still looks ridiculously good, even if it remains shallow beneath its glossy surface.
