No More Heroes 3: The Kotaku Review

2 years 8 months ago

“If a young boy takes acid and experiences a change, the least a film can do is give him more than acid gives him. But you mustn’t give him the visions that acid gives him; you must give him the pill. And then let each individual see his own visions.”

No More Heroes 3 Review – Welcome to The Garden of Insanity

2 years 8 months ago

No More Heroes 3 on Nintendo

The No More Heroes games have always been a bit of a black sheep among the typically happy-go-lucky titles in the Wii library. The blood, violence, and profanity never quite aligned with the typical Nintendo look. However, it would be a shame to think that shock value is all this franchise has to offer. And No More Heroes 3 yet again proves that Suda51 and the development team at Grasshopper Manufacture are artful masters of the action game genre.

An action game is nothing without interesting characters and No More Heroes 3 has incredibly memorable characters in spades. Anyone who has been paying even the smallest amount of attention to the trailers for this game is likely familiar with Prince FU (aka Jess Baptiste VI). But besides the big bad guy of this title, there’s an entire organization of galactic “superheroes” with wild designs in their own right.

Even with the bizarre, nonsensical names that sound as if they were created by a random name generator like Black Night Direction, Sonic Juice, and Paradox Bandit, they’re clearly not an afterthought by any means. Each member of the Galactic Superhero Corps has their own distinct personality and an equally unique design to match.

And then there’s Damon, FU’s unfortunate long-time friend who took in the alien prince when his ship crashed 20 years prior. His presence is fairly inconsequential throughout most of the story, but the fact that he’s still alive after FU’s return shows that the alien has at least a sense of loyalty.

Is No More Heroes 3 Worth Playing? | Review Impressions

2 years 8 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

We here at Game Informer like to ask the hard questions. What's the meaning of life? Will we ever get a proper Half-Life 3? Is No More Heroes 3 a worthy successor in the long-running series? While we can't help you with answers to the first two questions, we sure can assist with the last one.

Join Alex Stadnik and John Carson, the game's reviewer, to discuss the official Game Informer review for No More Heroes 3! We start our time highlighting the good, for which there is much, according to Mr. Carson. The game is dripping with style and boasts the same wild humor and slick visuals fans have come to know the series for. The combat can also be a lot of fun as players chop their way through a hoard of bizarre and fascinating enemy types. Those fights also culminate in exciting boss fights that epitomize No More Heroes 3's exhilarating combat experience.

But it's not all good news, unfortunately. Developer Grasshopper Manufacture misses the mark a bit when it comes to the game's open world, which suffers from significant performance issues. In between boss fights, Travis will need to accrue money for an entrance fee to continue his quest, resulting in sometimes mundane and uninteresting activities such as picking up trash.

No More Heroes 3 Review – Dead Or Alive

2 years 8 months ago

Publisher: Grasshopper Manufacture
Developer: Grasshopper Manufacture
Release:
Reviewed on: Switch

Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture’s nerdy assassin Travis Touchdown returns in the first numbered No More Heroes in over a decade. Many of the series’ telltale features return, including stylish trimmings, Beam Katana battles, and completing mundane yard work to earn a buck. No More Heroes 3 is best when the action is heavy, and the absurdity in cutscenes is full-bore, but the open world padding between each thrilling melee arena or assassin duel hamstrings the experience.

The King’s Man’s Red Band Trailer Is Just as Bloody and Brutal as You’d Expect

2 years 8 months ago

After the success of the first two Kingsman movies, it’s no surprise that director Matthew Vaughn would return with yet another instalment in the franchise. This time around, it’s a prequel of sorts, and it’s a period action piece simply titled The King’s Man. It’s set to air in theaters this December, and the new red band trailer has just been released. Of course, viewer discretion is advised.

You can check out the trailer for yourself down below.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the film:

“As a collection of history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds gather to plot a war to wipe out millions, one man must race against time to stop them. Discover the origins of the very first independent intelligence agency in The King’s Man.”

The movie stars Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, and Djimon Honsou, and the trailer looks every bit as comedic and violent as you might have come to expect after watching the first two movies. The hyperstylized action and well-choreographed fight scenes were what made the first two movies so popular, and it’s looking like this one will live up to that legacy as well.

The King’s Man is set to start airing on December 22.

2 years 8 months ago

The Season of the Lost is here in Destiny 2, changing a bunch of Exotics and bringing some great new ones, like Radiant Dance Machines. It's also our first visit from Xur of the season, which makes it a great opportunity to snag some new Exotics to jump into the season's new meta.

We'll update this post as soon as Xur appears in the solar system with a full rundown of where you can find him and what he's offering for the weekend.

Xur returns to the solar system every weekend in Destiny 2, starting with the daily reset at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET each Friday. The thing is, where he'll land isn't known until he actually arrives. Xur can hang out at one of several locations, including in the Tower Hangar area, on Nessus in Watcher's Grave, and in the Winding Cove area of the EDZ. Xur's inventory also changes each week, so it's worth revisiting him on the weekends for new weapons and rolls on Exotic armor. You can visit him any time between his arrival Friday and the weekly reset at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET the following Tuesday when Xur departs the solar system.

Kerbal's creator is building from scratch with Balsa Model Flight Simulator, but intends to soar

2 years 8 months ago

Ah, balsa wood. It may be slightly flimsy - potentially breakable, if you push it hard in the wrong place - but it’s also pliable, easy to build with, and fuel for the hobbyist’s imagination. Oh: and it comes from South America. In all these respects, it’s a lot like the open beta build for Balsa Model Flight Simulator that’s launching on Steam today.

Designed by Kerbal Space Program creator Felipe Falanghe, it’s everything you’d expect from the man: a modular, mod-ready tool for unconstrained air vehicle creation and a sandbox for physics-enabled flight, delivered with a disarmingly gentle tone that finds comedy in the most disastrous crash.

2 years 8 months ago

Epic Games has announced a Martin Luther King experience for Fortnite, which players can check out now by loading up the Battle Royale title.

The news comes via a post over on the official Fortnite website, accompanied by a trailer (included below). To be clear, Martin Luther King Jr. will not feature in the Battle Royale section of Fortnite, but instead in a new interactive experience presented by TIME Studios.

“Developed by members of the community in Fortnite Creative, March Through Time immerses players in the entirety of Dr. King’s monumental “I Have a Dream” speech and the history surrounding it,” the blog post reads.

March Through Time will take players back to D.C. 63, a reimagined Washington D.C. built by community members, ChaseJackman, GQuanoe, XWDFr, and YU7A. Here, players will be able to travel to the Lincoln Memorial and United States National Mall, where Dr. King read his iconic 17-minute “I Have a Dream” speech.

No More Heroes 3 review - Suda's series back at its wonky best

2 years 8 months ago

In one of the many, many, many fourth-wall breaking interludes in No More Heroes 3, series star Travis Touchdown guests on a TV show to discuss his deep love and appreciation for the work of Takashi Miike, Japanese cinema's most prolific, varied and plain wildest of directors. It's another self-indulgent pop culture reference in a series that's awash with them, but there's something different here - the sense that series creator Goichi Suda aligns himself somewhat with Miike.

It's something underlined when Travis goes into an extended rant about how a director like Miike - a man whose most notorious film has its opening title spelled out in a splash of semen - went on to create the idol series Girl x Heroines in order to strengthen his production crew. It's something Suda himself did with Travis Strikes Again, the stripped back spin-off he used to educate his young team before they set to work on a No More Heroes game proper.

I detested that particular game for leaning into the excesses of the series while lacking so much of its style, and yet here I am absolutely adoring No More Heroes 3. So what's changed? Well, it helps that this is a proper No More Heroes game, returning to the over-the-shoulder action that sees Travis scythe through small mobs and tackle screen-filling bosses. It's even more of a No More Heroes game than 2010's sequel, with the open world sections that were excised for No More Heroes 2 restored, and with some style too.

Steam's two-hour refund policy leads to indie developer quitting game development

2 years 8 months ago

A new debate has erupted surrounding Steam's two-hour refund policy.

If you weren't aware, Steam offers a refund for all game purchases, no questions asked, as long as your playtime is less than two hours and it's within two weeks of purchase.

It's a ‌pro-consumer policy (or a cost-effective way to reduce the number of customer service staff, depending on who you ask), and the two-hour playtime threshold is intended to stop less trustworthy consumers from exploiting it.
