Pokemon Gets Even More “Poke-Lid” Manholes Starring Exeggutor, Regigigas, Regirock, Smoochum, & More

2 years 9 months ago

The Poke-Lid mania in Japan continues to grow and several more cities have installed the popular Pokemon manholes on their streets.

While July 4th is Independence Day in the United States, it has been designated as Exeggutor Day in Japan, and Miyazaki Prefecture, which is famously associated with the popular pokemon, is celebrating.

Nine new Poke-Lid manholes have been installed in several towns of the prefecture, that already had several. As a result, all of the 26 municipalities in Miyazaki Prefecture now have their own Exeggutor Poke-Lids.

This time around, Exeggutor and its Alolan version aren’t alone but come with friends including Slakoth, Smoochum, Regigigas, Regirock, Registeel, Regice, Golurk, Gulpin, and Sigilyph.

As usual, each Poke-Lid will mark locations for PokeStops compatible with Pokemon GO.

You can check them all out in the gallery below, also showing the presentation ceremony, directly from the press release.

Oops I let the humans die: being god of the galaxy in The Fermi Paradox is tricky

2 years 9 months ago

Maybe I should start again? I've fudged it.

I got off to a great start though. I switched Earth to an entirely plant-based diet and felt very happy with myself, but then I sort of let a nuclear war wipe half the population out. I went a bit Thanos. And then, whoops, I thought I'd see what happened if I let a vicious group of people unleash a virus on what was left of the world, and well, total extinction apparently.

Shame! Alien contact was just around the corner. The prun horse-people, more advanced than the humans, were already on their way. But when they arrived there were no humans there to meet. How embarrassing! Mind you it's probably for the best. We'd probably have tried to put saddles on them.

Here's Ring Fit Adventure for less than £50

2 years 9 months ago

If you're not ready to pop back to the gym just yet and want to continue your workout from the living room with Ring Fit Adventure, Amazon now has one of the best prices we've seen for Nintendo's quirky at-home exercise RPG.

When Martin reviewed Ring Fit Adventure he found it to be “pure Nintendo magic”. While you can expect to spend a good amount of time jogging on the spot and mucking about with a pilates ring to biff monsters on the head, there's also an assortment of mini-games to keep things varied. Throughout, your results are tracked with experience points and leaderboards to give those that enjoy it a satisfying sense of progression or competition after every session.

Right now you can pick up a copy of the game for £47.20. It would usually set you back at least somewhere around the £60 mark.

Dragon Age 4 concept art teases familiar faction

2 years 9 months ago

Last week we heard the news that Dragon Age and Mass Effect would skip this month's EA Play Live. Now, executive producer Christian Dailey has reassured fans that the game is "making great progress", and provided a new piece of concept art.

The image shows a group of stylish caped figures, who fans will recognise as the Antivan Crows (their sigil in the bottom right confirms this).

Antivan Crows have briefly popped up in the series before (Zevran was a Crow recruit way back in Dragon Age 1), as well as its spin-off comics and novels.

US military withdraws from Afghanistan base, leaves Pokémon behind

2 years 9 months ago

US military newspaper Stars and Stripes has reflected on the ongoing withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan "through the lens of Pokémon Go".

An article published over the weekend includes interviews with former and currently serving members of the US armed forces who played Pokémon Go while stationed on the base at Bagram Airfield, near Kabul, over the past few years.

According to the story, the base previously hosted a "thriving" Pokémon Go community made up of troops, contractors and visiting civilians "who played the game while exercising and after work".

Mass Effect Legendary Edition mod fixes infamous Conrad Verner glitch

2 years 9 months ago

A new mod for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition has fixed the series' infamous save bug involving Conrad Verner - the infamous Shepard fan who loves to bug you.

The glitch caused Mass Effect 2 to incorrectly remember how you had treated Verner in Mass Effect 1, if you were nice to him. Catching up with Verner a second time, he would always react like you had put a gun in his face to get him to desist from acting like a trained N7 recruit for his own good.

BioWare likely left this bug unpatched in the Legendary Edition as it later retconned Verner's glitched response in Mass Effect 3, where Verner apologises if he had misremembered Shepard's earlier actions.

Don't expect Grand Theft Auto 6 anytime soon

2 years 9 months ago

The next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series will not release anytime soon, according to reports.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is still at least three or four years away, according to Battlefield insider Tom Henderson, who last week suggested GTA6 would not see a release until at least 2024 or 2025. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier has now said he has heard similar.

The long wait, Henderson said, was due to a push within developer Rockstar to improve staff welfare and avoid the levels of crunch which have plagued the company over past releases. It is also, Henderson continued, because Rockstar wants to launch GTA6 at a time when the install base for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S has grown considerably.

Let me show you my fossil collection

2 years 9 months ago

As predicted, this weekend I have mostly been playing Fossil Corner, a game in which you are a retired paleontologist who was going to go on a cruise and then decided they just love fossils too much. So now they have gone back to quietly unpacking and categorising them in their garage.

You get a box of shells (and later, when you get well good, trilobites, those little whiskery arthropods that look like woodlice) and organise them by generation, observing one change per step in the family tree. A pattern might change in one direction, for example, or a shape might flip in another. Maybe a triolobite gets a different number of segements, or some cool little horns. It's very satisfying. And after each box you solve, you get to keep a fossil!
