No more kidding around, I just want another Screamer

2 years 9 months ago

I haven't played a car game in over a decade. Not out of spite, or because of some bizarre gaming diet where I am not allowed to consume anything with four wheels, but it's just that everything nowadays is too realistic, or trying too hard to be unrealistic. I desire a car game that slots nicely in-between the two without fanfare. A simple, unceremonious racing game is what I'm after; Screamer. That game is Screamer. A third one. It's just, would I actually like it?

Doki Doki Literature Club Plus on Nintendo Switch

For most of the gaming world, the secret is out about Doki Doki Literature Club. Between countless theories and reaction vids on YouTube and the viral world of mouth spread when the game originally came out in late 2017, there are probably not that many people that haven’t either A: experienced DDLC, or B: at least know what the deal is after someone telling them about. Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, then, would have to come in pretty strong to justify a $15 re-release of a game that is currently free-to-play on Steam.

Fortunately, Team Salvato and Serenity Forge have come in quite strong indeed. Not only is the game now available on consoles, including the portable Switch, a significant feature in itself, but the team has added some significant and surprising new content to more than justify its $15 price tag whether you’re a new or returning player.

Spoiler warning: This article will allude to major plot details of the original Doki Doki Literature Club game. It’s recommended that if you have not played the original game, that you proceed through this review with caution or play through it once before reading this review. It’s still free on Steam.

Just in case you missed the train the first time around let’s quickly go over the premise of Doki Doki Literature Club main campaign.

Pokemon Masters Adds Subway Bosses as New Sync Pair

2 years 9 months ago

DeNa has today announced that two new Pokemon Masters sync pairs will become available from today, and it’s the Subway Bosses of the Unova region, Ingo & Excadrill and Emmet & Archeops.

Here are the details from a press release sent to Twinfinite:

  • The Ground-type sync pair of Ingo & Excadrill can create a sandstorm during battle, which players can utilize with moves like All Aboard! and Sedimentary, both of which power up during a sandstorm.
  • The Rock-type sync pair of Emmet & Archeops uses moves like Rock Slide, which can damage all opponents at once. They also have a Passive Skill called Sand Superiority 3, which powers up and protects the player’s team during a sandstorm, providing a compelling reason to enter a battle with both Emmet & Archeops and Ingo & Excadrill.
  • Both sync pairs can reach a 6★ EX Potential rating, which increases the strength of their sync moves and provides them with an additional optional outfit to wear.

The new characters have been weaved into a new in-game story event titled “All Aboard the Victory Train,” available to players who have completed Chapter 1 of the Main Story. This event features Ingo and Emmet as they attempt to build a facility on Pasio similar to the Battle Subway on Unova. As is typical, players can earn in-game rewards such as Strike move candy coins, Support move candy coins, and 5★-Guaranteed Scout Tickets by completing battles in this event.

There are further rewards for those who log into Masters daily between now and the event end-date (July 14), too, including 1,000 Gems, which is enough to add up to three sync pairs to their teams.

According to producer Tomoko Hiroki, the update is coming in the middle of August.

The Quiet Strength Of The Crow In Destiny 2: Season Of The Splicer

2 years 9 months ago

From Uldren to the Crow, this isn't the first time we've reflected on the reincarnation of Cayde-6's killer, and it won't be the last, but as the current season's story careens towards its close, we can't help but to reflect on something truly beautiful about this character. Back in March during Destiny 2's Season of the Chosen, I wrote a lengthy feature about how I hated Bungie for making me love this character as much as I did. I'm sad to report that my love has only grown stronger and is bordering on character study obsession. Them's the breaks, but I am happy to see that the trajectory I spoke of is relevant to The Crow's current standing. This week's mission for Season of the Splicer has only solidified him as one of the most humbly strong characters in the current Destiny 2 universe.

Microsoft’s Phil Spencer Says Studio Acquisitions Are A Good Thing

2 years 9 months ago

Acquisitions aren’t necessarily a new trend in the video games industry, but recently many studios have been parented by large conglomerates. For instance, EA recently forged a partnership with Dirt developers Codemasters, Sony has added Housemarque (and potentially Bluepoint) to their expansive list of in-house studios, and Microsoft’s multi-billion dollar purchase of Bethesda still has the community reeling, especially with the announcement of Starfield as an Xbox exclusive. Of course, some consumers have voiced concern over the surge of acquisitions, calling consolidation a negative aspect of the industry. Phil Spencer, however, feels otherwise; he thinks acquisitions are a good thing.

In an interview with IGN, Spencer talked about the highs and lows of the industry’s recent shift to expanding their brands. Spencer notes the difficulty that comes with starting small businesses and turnover. When hardships do occur, Spencer stated that simply not selling can be short-sighted:

2 years 9 months ago

Microsoft just revealed its Xbox Games With Gold lineup for July, and now it's time for PlayStation to show off what it's got. Where Xbox is leaning into that Conker love, PlayStation is going in a different direction with WWE, some Call of Duty action, and rats. Lots of rats.

Just like every month, the new lineup is yours to keep as long as a PlayStation Plus membership is active.

Free PS Plus July 2021 Free Games

  • A Plague Tale: Innocence
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
  • WWE 2K Battlegrounds

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is about what you'd expect from a Call of Duty experience with the exception that the Zombies portion is so much more immersive. It also includes Blackout, which is the battle royale portion of the shooter.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds is arcade-inspired, blending Superstars and Legends together into an experience filled with interactive environments alongside a new story mode. Kick your friends' butts, become the Superstar you were always meant to be, and get that belt.

This Tetris-y roguelike dungeon crawler looks like an excellent puzzle

2 years 9 months ago

One of the great joys of digging through social posts for indie games in development is when one just clicks with you. I apologize in advance for not preparing a more proper Tetris pun because I just genuinely just think that Blocky Dungeon looks neat. You owe it to yourself to see it in motion. It made some part of my brain happy to watch even in one of its earliest prototype posts from yonks back in 2019. I'm thrilled to see it's popped up again, looking slicker than before, and with some plans to launch a full version by the end of the summer.
