Chivalry 2 Player Only Needs Bread To Kill

2 years 10 months ago

Despite its serious medieval trappings, Chivalry 2 matches can get pretty slapstick-y thanks to the game allowing players to use anything at their disposal to take down opponents. Case in point, this recent Reddit post showing a creative Chivalry 2 player scoring two kills in a row with a weapon made of whole grains…

Adult Swim France Posts Surprisingly Cute Rick and Morty & My Neighbor Totoro Claymation Video

2 years 10 months ago

You wouldn’t really think My Neighbor Totoro and Rick and Morty would have all too much in common, as one is a cute and cuddly approach to life and growing up while the other is a gritty and adult take on life. Despite their differences, Adult Swim still managed to make a cute little crossover video featuring the two.

As you can see in a post by Adult Swim France’s Twitter, a My Neighbor Totoro and Rick and Morty claymation video was created to promote the fifth season of Rick and Morty.

The short video depicts Morty and Summer riding the Catbus over to a campfire next to an Adult Swim logo. There, they meet a Rick-styled version of Totoro before the clip ends. It is short and sweet, and not what anyone probably expected from the crossover, but it is pretty cool nonetheless.

Remedy Reveals New Control Multiplayer Spin-off With Project Condor, New 505 Games Deal Revealed

2 years 10 months ago

Remedy Entertainment is keeping busy following the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Control. Announced in a blog post written by Control Director Mikael Kasurinen, Remedy has inked a new deal with 505 Games to expand the Control franchise into places it hasn’t gone before including a spin-off focused on multiplayer and a new high-budget Control down the road.

Kasurinen establishes why the team is bringing Control into a multiplayer experience: “Control is first and foremost a world, a place for multitudes of stories, events, and characters. A place where unexpected, strange, and extraordinary things occur. We kicked it off with Jesse’s entry into the Oldest House, but there is more to this world. Oh, so much more.”

“Project Condor” is the code name for this new multiplayer title set within the Control universe, though there’s not many details on what the game actually is yet. Mikael's blog only has one image hinting at what Condor might be. The picture depicts a group of four people decked out in various kinds of armor and gear crammed on a bench in a waiting room with a body bag at their feet. A battle-ready squad facing bureaucratic mundanity fits Control like a glove.

Magic: Legends to Shut Down in October Before Official Launch

2 years 10 months ago

Magic: Legends entered its public beta phase a few weeks back, and it was a pretty exciting prospect for fans of the Magic: The Gathering universe who wanted to play a Diablo-like game set in that world. However, the beta wasn’t without its fair share of issues, including performance issues, a frustrating grind, and microtransactions.

It would appear that the development team at Cryptic Studios feel that they’ve “missed the mark” with the game, and have decided to shut the game down completely even before its full release.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce Magic: Legends will be shutting down on October 31, 2021. All players who spent money in-game across Arc and the Epic Games Store during the Open Beta will be refunded their full purchase amounts. Servers will remain open for play until closing day, however we will be closing the Zen Shop effective immediately. Later this week, all items will instead be purchasable using Aether, our free in-game currency.
Our vision for Magic: Legends missed the mark, but we are proud of what we achieved. Thanks to Wizards of the Coast, we got to bring the expansive Magic: The Gathering Multiverse to a wide audience and explore new angles within the established ARPG genre. We learned several valuable lessons along the way, and we will use them to improve Cryptic’s future development efforts.”

Cryptic Studios

In addition to that, players who made purchases from the in-game store will also receive refunds, though items from the store will now be purchasable with the in-game free currency, Aether. Magic: Legends will continue to be playable and available on the Epic Games Store until Oct. 31.

Final Fantasy V & VI to Be Removed from Steam Next Month

2 years 10 months ago

Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI have been available on the Steam storefront for quite some time now, but it looks like Square Enix will be delisting them next month. This doesn’t come as a surprise, considering that the Pixel Remaster was announced during E3, which is a project consisting of 2D remasters of the first six Final Fantasy games.

In fact, the games have already been taken down in certain regions.

The Steam description for both games now include the following:

“This game will no longer be available for purchase on after July 27. Instead, please purchase the pixelated remastered version… coming soon.”

FFV on Steam, FFVI on Steam

There’s no set release date for the Pixel Remaster, nor are there any details on what features or mechanics will be overhauled, or if they’ll be kept the same. Either way, now’s your last chance to purchase the current Steam versions of FFV and FFVI, and we’ll keep you updated as more info comes our way.

Pride Week: Finding Queerness in Larp

2 years 9 months ago

Hello! All this week Eurogamer is celebrating Pride with a series of stories examining the confluence of LGBT+ communities and play in its many different forms, from video games and tabletop games through to live-action role-play. Today, Evan offers an introduction to the ever-expanding queer larping scene.

Live-action role-play (larp) is often associated with people in fantasy outfits swinging foam swords, or gothed-out college students pretending they're vampires on weekend nights. But in a modern society saturated in genre fiction and also weirdly restrictive on what we might do with our bodies, larp is also much cooler than you think. This global entertainment medium transcends mere "entertainment": it helps us try out new identities and maybe keep a few bits of what we've tried. Those of us who larp must also engage with queerness and, might I add, everyone should at least try larping.

At the 2019 Intercon S convention, "the premiere multi-genre LARP convention in the world", a friend came up to me, dripping with sweat. "The room was full," they said in disbelief. "Just wall-to-wall queer larpers. There are so many of us now." My friend was referring to a meetup for LGBTQ-identifying larpers at a North American convention that, only a short time ago, required special content warnings for larp events containing "queer romance."

The Elder Scrolls 6 in design phase, being built on new Starfield technology

2 years 9 months ago

Bethesda boss Todd Howard has given a brief update on The Elder Scrolls 6, which is still many years away.

The hugely-anticipated Skyrim sequel will benefit from following the upcoming Starfield, Howard said, whose new engine is already being used for TES6 prep.

"The [new Starfield] technology, Creation Engine 2, is sort of built for both," Howard told The Telegraph. "It's like a new tech base. The vast majority of our development development work is on Starfield right now but everybody works on everything so the projects kind of intertwine."

All purchases made in the game's PC open beta will be refunded. Planned full launches for PlayStation, Steam and Xbox have been scrapped.

Magic: Legends was first announced in January 2020, as the next project from Neverwinter and Star Trek Online developer Cryptic. It promised an action role-playing take on the Magic universe, more commonly seen in the ubiquitous card game.

Long-lost Minecraft build found via an old tweet

2 years 9 months ago

If you've ever felt bad about keeping all your old files in a mess, here's something to make you feel better, as a much sought-after early version of Minecraft has finally been found - thanks to one player who made backups of her old laptop. Oh, and I guess this also means that tweeting everything is useful after all.

As spotted by Kotaku, Twitter user @lunasorcery explained in a thread that she'd helped a group of Minecraft historians find a long-lost early version of the game. Build Alpha 1.1.1 was apparently a "long-running meme" and "holy grail" for Minecraft archivist group Omniarchive, as the historians had never been able to track the elusive build down. It was an exceedingly rare version of the game that was released on 18th September 2010, and was only available for three hours and 25 minutes due to a bug that would turn the player's screen grey.

Luckily, someone spotted a 2010 tweet by Luna in which she discussed the Minecraft update, and messaged her to ask if she had a copy of the build. She initially ignored the message, thinking there was "no chance in hell" that she would still have a copy, but last Friday another person contacted her about the tweet - and this prompted her to take a closer look.

The first will be a multiplayer spin-off, currently titled Project Condor. The next will be "a bigger-budget Control game" which sounds further off.

Concept art for Condor shows a team of four players with a bagged-up enemy at their feet. Control franchise director Mikael Kasurinen said in a blog post that the image "tells pretty well what Condor is about".

Fates Of Ort is a clever action RPG mashup

2 years 9 months ago

There was a time when actual arguments were had over the validity of "real time with pause" as a design choice. A foolish time we ought not to revisit. I bring it up because I've been playing Fates Of Ort, a light-hearted action RPG that's more like "pause with real time".

Everything is frozen in time until you move, swing a sword, or cast a spell, replacing the usual reflex-based clickfest with a measured pace. Combined with its intriguing magic system, it lets you combine conditions and spell effects without becoming a test of how many button sequences you've memorised. There's even a hint of bullet hell, an experience I evidently enjoy more (ie: at all) when I can pause, and a tiny pinch of Dark Souls in its respawning/healing system. It's fun stuff.
