Drake Hollow Delayed To Undetermined Launch Date

3 years 10 months ago

Today brought word that Drake Hollow is pushing out from a planned launch on July 17. Unfortunately, the team was not able to offer a new date at this time, but is promising to share that news when it can.

The news came over Twitter from Molasses Flood studio director, Forrest Dowling, who couldn't share clear details of why the delay is happening, but did share that the reasons “are technical, boring, complicated to explain, and all under NDA anyway.”

Drake Hollow is a cooperative village-builder with action elements, and includes both a sandbox mode and a more narrative-oriented campaign. The game is headed to Xbox One and PC. Developer The Molasses Flood previously created the well-receieved The Flame in the Flood.

Clash Royale is inviting clans on a new adventure. In Clan Wars II, you and your friends will sail down a river to collect rewards for you and the entire clan. The ultimate prize is a chest at the end of the river. As your set sail, you'll run into new game types, including Clash Royale's first version of PvE, which pushes you to take down defenses on a boat. Clan Wars II does away with collection day, and you instead use your own cards for its modes Duels, Boat Battles, and more.

Although a new Clash Royale season is about to begin in two days, the Clan Wars II content won't hit until August. Are you still playing Clash Royale? If so, are you excited for this new content? If you fell off of the game, are you intrigued to jump back in?

Animal Crossing's Summer Update Is Live And You Can Catch An Octopus!

3 years 10 months ago

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been updated today in a big way. You can now dip your toes in the ocean and go for a swim. If you see a shadow in the water, dive down and grab it. My first catch was an octopus for the museum. The update is free and shouldn't be any kind of hassle. Just boot up the game and away you go.

The game does a fine job of walking your through the process of getting your swimming suit (which set me back just 3,000 bells). Once you throw it on, you can hop right into the ocean. Along with my new eight-legged friend, there are 40 different creatures in the ocean to find, including a variety of crabs, a sea pineapple, garden eel, oyster, jellyfish, and sea pig (which will only be around between November and February). For the full list, check out Reddit user Chiiribi's post that even gives the seasons and time of day you'll find them. Happy hunting, everyone!

Welsh-folklore-inspired stealth horror Maid of Sker is out at the end of July

3 years 10 months ago

Wales Interactive's folklore-inspired 19th century survival horror Maid of Sker will be making its way to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on 28th July.

Maid of Sker draws inspiration from an old Welsh ballad, telling the supposedly true tale of Elizabeth Williams, said to have have died of a broken heart after being locked insider her home by her controlling father. As such, I'd initially pegged the game as a sort of spooky country house walking sim, but, on more thorough inspection, it actually appears to be something closer to Outlast by way of the National Trust.

The year is 1898 and players must explore the shadowy halls of Sker Hotel (its original setting, the real-life Sker House, was tweaked after a bit of a legal kerfuffle), where a family "driven by torture, slavery, piracy and a supernatural mystery" once dwelled.

Ubisoft's strategy city-builder The Settlers is delayed until further notice

3 years 10 months ago

In August of last year, Jordan wrote "I'm going to lose so much time to The Settlers." Not anytime soon, he won't!

The newest game in the long-running strategy civilization-building series has been hit with an indefinite delay. Maybe developer Blue Byte couldn't get the right zoning permits, maybe conquering new lands is no easy feat. Regardless, The Settlers isn't settling anytime soon.

The reason for the delay is vague. In an announcement post, Blue Byte just says "While we are on the right path to deliver a great game, we really want to deliver an exceptional gaming experience. Since quality is our main priority, we want to take the time necessary to make it right. Therefore, we had to make the difficult decision to postpone the release of the game until further notice."

This is just the latest setback for a game that was supposed to launch in 2019. That (obviously) didn't happen, and then it was pushed to 2020. With this indefinite delay, it's impossible to tell when -- or even if -- The Settlers will eventually release. For what it's worth, the Epic Games Store lists 2021 as the launch window.

Animal Crossing's diving update has me hooked all over again

3 years 10 months ago

The ocean is fully open for business in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and if you're the type of player who genuinely enjoys cataloging every last creature (or you just can't seem to help yourself) then you'll want to go for a dip. Today's update added diving and more than three dozen sea creatures to collect.

To go swimming in the ocean, you'll need to grab a wetsuit for 3,000 bells from Nook's Cranny – they're sold from the cabinet containing saplings, flimsy tools, and starter DIY recipes. After you put it on, you can walk up to the shore, press the A button next to the ocean, and continue pressing A to swim.

The area surrounding the island is larger than I was expecting. It's also weird seeing the airport and other spots from alternate angles. Diving is a straightforward activity – be on the lookout for bubbles, and press Y when you're close enough to plunge – but the sea creatures are varied and fun to catalog.

One of the first things I found was a sea slug, which sent me down a Wikipedia rabbit hole to learn more about nudibranchs. Running through the list of critters in July, I have a lot of work ahead of me.

As teased in Nintendo's promo video for this summer update, our old pal Pascal can show up if you pluck a scallop from the seafloor. You can trade with him to get mermaid-themed furniture items. If you're wondering about pearls, you can find them underwater like anything else, but they're rare.

What Are You Playing This Weekend?

3 years 10 months ago

The weekend is for watching Hamilton on Disney+. Sad personal fact: I had tickets to Hamilton last year, but we wound up having union contract bargaining that same night, so I had to sell them. I felt that this was a noble sacrifice, but it was also a huge bummer. I’m excited for this situation to finally be somewhat…

Kick Off The Weekend With This Destroy All Humans! Trailer

3 years 10 months ago

Are you ready to fire up the grill for some perfect burgers or brats doused with delectable mustard? Maybe gearing up to fry up some wings and drummies? Or maybe you're just going to check out some fireworks. All of this with the proper social distancing of course. I dunno. Maybe just watch Independence Day instead. That movie is pretty awesome. Remember Mars Attacks!? I didn't like that movie until I saw it for the third time. Now I appreciate its campy comedy.

If you're doing all or none of these things, that's cool - we've got a "Dependence Day" trailer from the upcoming Destroy All Humans! remake for you to check out.

Unfortunately, the game won't be available this weekend, but it's coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on July 28. Observe the chaotic mischief below as we explore the terrifying but humorous possibility of an alien invasion in 1950s America. Take your flying saucer out for a spin!

Replay – Tomb Raider: Underworld

3 years 10 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

When people think about Lara Croft, many either reflect on her early adventures on the PlayStation or the most recent grittier take on the iconic crypt-diver. But not to be overlooked is Crystal Dynamics' first run at the series which focused more on puzzle-solving than the brutal combat of what would follow and that includes Tomb Raider: Underworld.

Join Andrew Reiner, Ben Reeves, and me as we dive into the opening of the game and face off against not only those who would stand in Lara's way but some funny glitches and confusing level design, as well.

Due to a certain video editor's need to go on vacation, we had to prerecord this week's episode but we'll be live again in seven days. If you can't get enough of our live shows, remember to subscribe on YouTube, Twitch, Mixer, Twitter, and Facebook to get notified when we go live each week!

New Sea Creatures Guide -- Animal Crossing: New Horizons

3 years 10 months ago

The biggest addition to part one of Animal Crossing: New Horizons' summer update is the ability to swim and dive in the ocean around your island, which means new creatures to catch. In fact, wave one of the summer update added an entirely new category in your Critterpedia, titled "Sea Creatures," and Blathers is accepting donations of new finds at the museum as well. There are 40 total new sea creatures to catch.

Here we'll go over every new type of sea creature you can find while diving. If you don't know how to dive yet, check out our guide on how to swim in Animal Crossing for info on where to get a wet suit and how to get into the water for the first time.

How To Find Sea Creatures In Animal Crossing

Sea creatures can only be found while diving underwater in the ocean. You'll know you're near one when you see a column of bubbles floating to the surface, or when you're already underwater and spot a dark shadow beneath the waves. Just dive under and swim over to the shadow to automatically collect the creature. Sometimes the shadow might be moving, so you will have to follow or chase it.

Here's How To Swim In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

3 years 10 months ago

Animal Crossing: New Horizons just launched wave one of its summer update, which means you can now swim and dive in the ocean around your island. But you can't just dive right in without preparing. In this guide, we'll explain where to get a wet suit, how to swim and dive, and what to do with sea creatures and other rare finds. It adds a whole new layer to Nintendo's game, so you won't want to miss out. As a bonus, there are plenty of extra puns, too!

How To Get A Wet Suit

  • Requires: 3,000 bells

You can't swim in Animal Crossing: New Horizons without a wet suit. To buy a wet suit, head over to Nook's Cranny. The wet suit will be available to purchase in the cabinet where you usually buy tools, seeds, and wallpaper/flooring.

The wet suit costs 3,000 bells. You can also purchase a wet suit from your Nook Stop terminal for 3,000 bells. They come in new designs daily, so you can keep checking back if you don't like what you end up with. Your Nook Stop also offers a Nook Inc. wet suit for 800 miles.

Drake Hollow, The Next Game From The Flame In The Flood Devs, Has Been Delayed

3 years 10 months ago

Drake Hollow, the next game from The Flame in the Flood developer The Molasses Flood, has been delayed indefinitely just a few days before its previous July release date.

A short message from studio director Forrest Dowling explains that the delay is down to technical issues that can't be delved into due to NDA restrictions. "Unfortunately, due to the nature of the delay we don't have a new date yet, but will let everyone know as soon as we do," Dowling concluded.

Drake Hollow is a cooperative mix between survival and wave-based defense mechanics. You and three friends can build settlements and raise drakes--sentient plants that you'll need to feed, shelter, and, most importantly, keep entertained. The drakes will help you defend your base by manning weapons you build or suppling energy to automated defenses with treadmills. But if you don't hold their interest, they literally die.

Minecraft Cereal Creeping Onto Store Shelves

3 years 10 months ago

For too long, Minecraft players have frantically smacked Creepers before exploding, only to think to themselves: "I wonder what that thing tastes like?" Wonder no more, because Kellogg's has announced a cereal that finally gives a flavor profile to the exploding slime monster.

Minecraft Creeper Crunch cereal is a cinnamon breakfast snack littered with green "Creeper Bit" marshmallows. It's coming to US store shelves this August, and you can pick up an 8oz box for $4 or a 12oz box for $6.

Does the promise of crunchy cinnamon candies and green marshmallows not tempt your palette? Then you may also be interested to know that each box will include a code to unlock one of 10 clothing items like jackets and cloaks. These don't appear to be exclusive cosmetics, but every time you don your snazzy pants you can think to yourself: "I obtained this by devouring a tie-in food product that turned my milk a sort of brownish-green."

Nier Creator Yoko Taro Has Stubborn Demands, And A New RPG Called SinoAlice

3 years 10 months ago

"You're designing Final Fantasy XIV raids and remaking the original Nier now. What's changed for you since Nier: Automata?" That's a question I sent over to Yoko Taro via email through a PR rep and translator, hoping to get some insight on how his career has evolved since directing one of 2017's best games. And provide insight he did.

"I've always been stubborn, but once Automata became a hit, everyone began to say yes to my stubborn demands. Everyone may think that I became arrogant because I made a hit and got carried away--I'm upset because I've always been arrogant!"

For those unfamiliar, Yoko Taro kind of doesn't give a damn about professional norms in how he presents himself. You'll never catch him in the public eye without his Emil helmet on and you'll recognize his wild but inoffensive eccentricity as distinct from pretty much any other developer in the industry. In many ways, it's an attitude that's spilled into games he's worked on, typically designed with unconventional storytelling, melodrama, and sometimes crude irreverence. And if you're hyped up for the next thing from the creator of the Nier and Drakengard series, well, it actually just launched this week in the West.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Gets Patriotic Flyovers For July 4

3 years 10 months ago

Call of Duty: Warzone has gotten a new update with some patriotic flair for Independence Day. While you're waiting on the Warzone lobby, you can watch the skies for a jet flyover with colored smoke trails like you'd see in an air show.

The fansite CharlieIntel tweeted a look at the jet flyover with red and white stripes. The sky is also littered with fireworks which may be difficult to find this year in real life due to events being canceled in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Call of Duty stories often focus on the American military, in part as a coalition with militaries from allies like the UK. Activision has also closely tied the series with American military veterans with moves like its Call of Duty Endowment, a non-profit that helps veterans find civilian jobs after ending their service.

Root Film Getting Demo for PS4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan

3 years 10 months ago

Today Kadokawa Games announced the release of a demo for its upcoming mystery visual novel Root Film.

The demo will launch tomorrow (July 4) for PS4 and on Thursday, July 9, for Nintendo Switch. As far as we know, it’ll be exclusively in Japanese.

The demo includes the first chapter of the story of hero Rintaro Yagumo. It starts with a prologue and continues until he unveils a certain mystery triggered by the request for a TV series production.

On top of that, it provides a glimpse of some of the mechanics included in the game including the gathering of keywords to be used in conversations and MAX Mode to engage in a battle of wits against a character.

It’s worth mentioning that save games from the demo cannot be transferred to the finished game.

If you’re unfamiliar with the game, here’s a handy description:

Root Film is about a TV series, called “Shimane Mystery Drama Project”, which was canceled for an unknown reason 10 years ago. To reboot the project, three teams consisting of a director and an actress have been cast, including 23-year-old Rintaro Yagumo, the main character of the game.

His excitement about this amazing opportunity is quickly curbed, when a horrible murder interrupts their location scouting process. Follow him and a cast of unique and memorable characters by character designer Taro Minoboshi as they are drawn deeper into the thrilling mystery of Root Film.
