Shuhei Yoshida was on hand during Devolver Digital Direct to give a trailer that shows off the date of developer Mediatonic’s upcoming Fall Guys for August 4.

Fall Guys will be releasing for the PS4 and Steam. For those unaware, Fall Guys is a battle royale that features an obstacle course to eliminate opponents instead of being another shooter.

Serious Sam 4 Gameplay Reveal Shows A Return To The Messy, Chaotic Roots Of The Series

3 years 10 months ago

The first gameplay footage of Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass has debuted during the Devolver Digital Direct stream, showing off upcoming game's wild, chaotic violence. It looks a lot like previous games in the series, with a lot of enemies on screen at once, but with updated graphics.

You'll once again be playing as Sam "Serious" Stone, the leader of the Earth Defense Force (no relation). This is a prequel, and the focus is yet again on strafing and backing away from enormous hordes while firing everything you have into enemies and watching them explode.

Olija's Crunchy Combat And Alluring Lore Are Highlights In This New 2D Platformer

3 years 10 months ago

Revealed during the Devolver Showcase, Skeleton Crew Studio's Olija is set to launch for PC and Nintendo Switch later in 2020. A demo is available now on Steam, giving you a slice of its 2D action to try ahead of its release. Before its reveal, I had the chance to dive into the game with an exclusive demo for GameSpot, learning about it's crunchy combat, ambiguous and mysterious themes, and the cursed harpoon at the center of it all.

Olija is a 2D action platformer with equal measures of fast-paced combat and small but clever puzzles. Core to both is your main weapon, a cursed harpoon that you can throw in any cardinal direction with a button press and return to your hands with another. Your harpoon can lodge itself in the guts of enemies and certain points of the environment, letting you pull off a quick and satisfying dash to its position.

It feels great to chain together throwing and recalling the harpoon as your soar through the air, and the game encourages you to get comfortable with it. Early enemy encounters are limited to just a few foes at a time, but as you progress, they become more complex ballets where you have to balance positioning and aggression in equal measure. Groups of enemies will quickly overwhelm and kill you, but using your harpoon to fling yourself to a distant enemy--both giving you space and letting you kill them off effortlessly--feels incredibly satisfying.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Will Drop Gender Change Fee

3 years 10 months ago
If players wish to change their gender in World of Warcraft, they would have to purchase the $15 USD Appearance Change from the Blizzard store. With World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, Blizzard will be dropping this fee entirely. Executive producer John Hight spoke to Eurogamer and explained the decision and how players will now be able to change their gender at a barber shop for free in Shadowlands. "A long time ago, we had the ability for players to go in - it was actually a paid service - and change their character. Much of that is now in the barber shop in the game," Hight said. "And as we were adding things up in Shadowlands, we realised, 'Gosh the only way you can change your gender in World of Warcraft is to go through this paid service.' And we felt like that's not the right message." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/08/world-of-warcraft-shadowlands-developer-update"] "Unfortunately we can't fix that right now but it is our intent with Shadowlands to take that out of being a paid service thing and [put it] in the barber shop. But that's not something we can easily hotfix - unfortunately we can't do that right now. It is something that we're going to have in Shadowlands itself." Hight gave this answer after talking about the new Shadowlands NPC named Pelagos, who many believe to be the first trans character in the game. Pelagos is part of the Kyrian covenant, which players can join in Shadowlands, and will be a key part of the story. World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is set to be released later in 2020 and a Beta is set to begin next week.

Shadow Warrior 3's first gameplay trailer is bursting with blood

Following its announcement earlier this week, Devolver Digital today pumped out the first Shadow Warrior 3 gameplay trailer. It looks: good. Yeah I was already expecting swords, big guns, and buckets of blood, but ooh I am extra-interested in swish new movement options like the grappling hook little you dramatically slingshot around arenas. Carrion, The Reverse-Horror Monster Game, Will Launch Later This Month

3 years 10 months ago

Carrion's release date has been revealed during the Devolver Digital Direct stream, and like a hideous monster stalking the ceiling grate above you while you monologue with tremendous hubris about how this room is the only safe area in the facility, it's much closer than you might think.

Carrion will launch for Switch, Xbox One, and PC on July 23. A demo is available on Steam right now. A physical edition will come to Switch eventually, too.

GameSpot has an exclusive look at the first 25 minutes of the game, which you can watch in the video above. Tread with caution if you're easily grossed out, though.

Get Your First Look At Shadow Warrior 3 Gameplay

3 years 10 months ago

Announced earlier this week, the Devolver Direct has revealed our first look at gameplay for Shadow Warrior 3, the latest over-the-top first-person shooter from developer Flying Wild Hog.

The gameplay is full of what you'd expect from a Shadow Warrior sequel: lots of blood, loads of weapons, and gruesome executions. But there are also new features you can look forward to, like expanded mobility options with a grappling hook that looks like it will work extremely well with your double jumps, wall-running, and air-dashing antics.

Amongst all the blood and guts there's bright confetti and a strangely jolly spirit to it all, which makes the excessive gore all the stranger and more enticing. There's no confirmed release date for Shadow Warrior 3 yet, but you can expect a release sometime in 2021 for PC.

EA Sports UFC 4 Release Date Announced Alongside Reveal Trailer

3 years 10 months ago
EA has announced that EA Sports UFC 4 will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on August 14, 2020, and Israel Adesanya and Jorge Masvidal will be the global cover stars. In EA Sports UFC 4, players will be able to go from an unknown amateur to a UFC superstar in the new career mode, experience "the origins of combat sports in two all-new environments," and battle others in new Blitz Battles and Online World Championships. UFC 4 promises more authentic fights with "fluid clinch-to-strike combinations that offer more responsive stand-up gameplay, and overhauled takedown and ground mechanics to deliver more control in those key phases of the fight." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/11/ufc-4-official-reveal-trailer"] The new environments mentioned are the Backyard and Kumite. The Backyard is meant to recreate where some of the most successful fighters made their first impressions, and Kumite will pay homage to the old lore of MMA as its an underground temple with one purpose, to allow fighters to "impose the dominance of their fighting discipline on any challengers." Those who pre-order EA Sports UFC 4 will be able to play as both Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, two of boxing's biggest stars. There is no word as of yet on if EA Sports UFC 4 will be headed to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but it will be available on EA Access. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=ea-sports-ufc-4-screenshots&captions=true"] In our review of EA Sports UFC 3, we said "EA went back to the gym with UFC 3 to work on many of the weaknesses that had the previous two games struggling to find their footing.

Azur Lane Getting Ink-Stained Steel Sakura Rerun on The English Servers

3 years 10 months ago

Yostar shared its plans for upcoming content in its popular shipgirl-focused mobile game Azur Lane.

We learn that the English servers will once again hold back for about a month on the new content coming on the Japanese and Chinese servers as it happened with the Skybound Oratorio event.

Once again, this makes room for a rerun of a popular past event, Ink-Stained Steel Sakura, which dates to over a year ago, so many newer players have missed it.

This means that we’ll get another chance to unlock many Sakura Empire shipgirls including Nagato, Kawakaze, Mutsu, Kongou, Haruna, Youizuki, Harutsuki, Ooshio, Fumizuki, and Asashio.

The event will start next week, likely on July 16. At the moment, we don’t know what the Japanese and Chinese servers will get instead.

You can check out the announcement below.

How Lost In Random Injects A Board Game Twist Into The Adventure Genre

3 years 10 months ago

2018's Fe was a breakthrough for developer Zoink. The studio is known for colorful, dark storybook adventure games like Stick it to the Man or Flipping Death, but Fe was a noticeably more whimsical turn. It was also one of the earliest games for the EA Originals indie label, and now, Zoink has a follow-up in the form of Lost in Random. This new adventure incorporates more of a focus on exploration in a city ruled by an evil force, and as the name implies, it all ties into the nature of unpredictability.

Revealed at the recent EA Play 2020 online event, Lost in Random focuses on the story of Even, a resident of the city of Random, a place where an individual's station in life is decided at the age of 12 by a sacred dice. Eventually, Even discovers another magical, sentient dice that allows her to change her fate, and the duo goes on the run within the city. As they evade guards and other villains looking to take the opposing dice for themselves, Even and her partner, Dicey, learn of the city's inner workings and what it means for everyone in the town of Random.

The Future's Future was cancelled at today's Devolver Direct

3 years 10 months ago

The Future's Future is fucking ghost.

During today's Devolver Direct presentation, PR Queen Nina Struthers regained control of the universe as we know it, throwing off the shackles of marketing madwoman "Linda" and finally putting an end to the consumer-consuming concept of The Future's Future.

In a star-studded presentation that included SIE's Shuhei Yoshida, Xbox's Phil Spencer, Geoff Keighley, FGC megastar SonicFox, Geralt of Rivia's bathtub, and My Uncle who Works at Nintendo, Devolver delivered what could be the climactic chapter of its arc of chaotic summer presentations. The conspiracy-filled storyline saw the indie publisher's head honchos finally rise up against the hype-hungry Linda, ultimately freeing Nina Struthers and allowing her to regain control of not just The Future's Future... but The Future.

I absolutely loved it. Great work all-round by the entire crew, especially given the production difficulties, (caused by the COVID-19 pandemic), that led to the presentation's initial delay. Oh, and shout-outs to the lil' Quantum Leap handheld device. I miss Ziggy.

Oh yeah, Devolver also showed off some video games. You can read all about them below:

How EA Sports UFC 4 Evolves The Franchise

3 years 10 months ago

If you ask any UFC champion how they compare to their former self, they're likely to bring up the term "evolution." Fighters are constantly in pursuit of knowledge and improvement as they seek to not only become the best in the world, but continue to build their legacy as among the greatest to ever do it. As the only UFC-licensed video game in town, EA Sports UFC 4 doesn't need to worry about outpacing the competition, but rather demonstrating that it still deserves to be the de facto champion. EA Sports UFC 4 looks to evolve the areas that worked with UFC 3, while completely revamping the areas that didn't to create a game worthy of carrying the franchise forward.

Making a Career of It

As players fire up UFC 4, they have several options of where to go if they want to step into the Octagon. However, analytics showed the team of EA Vancouver that career mode has long been the most popular mode for players, so in order to get players right into the action, the first time you turn on the game, you start by creating your own fighter and working through your amateur career.

Heavyweight Boxing Champions Tyson Fury And Anthony Joshua Are EA Sports UFC 4 Pre-order Bonuses

3 years 10 months ago

EA Sports UFC 4 was just announced with Jorge Masvidal and Israel Adesanya as the cover athletes. The promotional cycle may be incredibly short, with just over a month before launch, but EA Sports still wants to entice players to pre-order the fourth iteration in its UFC-licensed series. Those who pre-order EA Sports UFC 4 get a collection of customization items, but the biggest additions come in the form of heavyweight boxing superstars Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

Fury, who most recently won his rematch against the powerful puncher Deontay Wilder by TKO in February, is the holder of the WBC, The Ring, and lineal titles. "I have a lot of respect for the UFC fighters but I'm the greatest fighter in the world," Tyson said in a statement provided by EA Sports. "It's going to be exciting to watch players use my boxing skills to outshine the most talented MMA fighters in UFC 4."

EA Sports UFC 4 Does Not Have Ultimate Team Mode

3 years 10 months ago

Announced this morning, we now know a ton about EA Sports UFC 4's various improvements. From gameplay overhauls to upgraded modes, fans have a lot to be optimistic about as we speed toward the release date next month. One thing that isn't making the jump to UFC 4, however, is the divisive Ultimate Team mode.

Ultimate Team is a mode that exists across nearly all EA Sports titles, from Madden to FIFA. In the mode, players can earn or purchase packs of cards to improve their teams. In EA Sports UFC 3, the mode let you build a team of fighters with obtained cards granting them new and better moves to use in fights. The mode is widely criticized across all of EA Sports' titles for its reliance on microtransactions and luck-based acquisition mechanics. According to creative director Brian Hayes, the mode just didn't receive the engagement the team hoped for, and therefore the resources were reallocated to things such as the new Connected Player Profile, where every activity you do in UFC 4 nets you experience and rewards like fighter customization items, profile icons, and more.

EA Sports UFC 4 Releases In August, Jorge Masvidal And Israel Adesanya Are The Cover Athletes

3 years 10 months ago

As the Ultimate Fighting Championship readies its massive UFC 251 pay-per-view card tonight, EA Sports has officially announced the existence of the fourth iteration of its UFC-licensed franchise. Not only that, but EA Sports has also given us our first look at this year's cover athletes, as well as the welcomed surprise that we only have just over a month to wait for the game's release.

Gracing the cover of EA Sports UFC 4 are two of the biggest names in mixed-martial arts coming off enormous years: Jorge Masvidal and Israel Adesanya. Masvidal, who stepped into tonight's UFC 251 main event welterweight title fight on a week's notice, began 2019 with a big knockout win against former title challenger Darren Till before knocking out the previously undefeated Ben Askren with an electrifying flying knee just five seconds into the fight – the fastest knockout in UFC history. In November, Masvidal defeated Nate Diaz for the newly created BMF title, headlining Madison Square Garden. Adesanya also had a tremendous 2019, defeating the legendary Anderson Silva before taking down Kelvin Gastelum for the interim middleweight championship in what many consider one of the greatest fights in UFC history. Subsequently, Adesanya unified the interim belt and the undisputed title with dominant performance over then-champion Robert Whittaker, ending the fight with a second round knockout.
