London-set Watch Dogs Legion has a new release date of 29th October 2020.
That's for the game's PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, anyway. Editions for next-gen consoles are also coming, presumably when those consoles launch.
Legion was originally set to launch back in March, though was delayed for a little more work.
Ubisoft today announced an October 29th release date for Watch Dogs: Legion and introduced a few of the potential stars in new videos. Legion hops over the proverbial pond to focus on DedSec operatives in London fighting The Man by hacking the oeuvre of David Mamet [the planet -rhyming slang ed.], and this time we can play all sorts of different people by recruiting NPCs around the world. Come meet some of them.
Watch Dogs Legion will be released on October 29, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and PC (for Epic Games Store and Uplay).
Shown off at today's Ubisoft Forward event, Xbox's Phil Spencer added that the game will support Smart Delivery between Xbox One and Xbox Series X, with the latter version using Direct X Raytracing. A store page later confirmed that free upgrades will also be available between PS4 and PS5 versions.
We got a look at a live-action/CG trailer for the game's dystopian themes and futuristic London setting. We also saw a series of gameplay clips, showing London's Dedsec in action.
We saw recruitment profiling, differences in dialogue between procedurally generated characters, and a look at the game's story - featuring a mysterious terrorist cell, London's new PMC police group, Albion, and the Kelly Gang, led by Mary Kelly.

Mission gameplay shows a series of Dedsec operatives attempting to break into the Tower of London, including a contruction worker armed with a wrench, nailgun and a cargo drone. It then shows the same mission attempted by a more stealth oriented drone expert, who uses surveillance and spider drones, and an Albion officer who can simply walk through the Tower's defences.
A separate mission sees Dedsec attempting to disrupt an organ farming operation from the perspective of a drunk football fan (who passes out) and a John Wick-like hitman, able to take down swathes of security.
The third entry in the Watch Dogs series caught our eye when it was revealed at E3 last year, but it was unfortunately part of Ubisoft's sweeping delays that happened several months ago. Originally scheduled for release this past March, Ubisoft has announced players will be able to step into the shoes of a DedSec operative this fall.
The current-gen version of Watch Dogs: Legion launches October 29, with next-gen versions "coming soon." You can get a look at Ubisoft's Watch Dogs: Legion gameplay overview trailer below.
Ubisoft Forward is the first all-digital showcase from the French publisher, and promised to bring major announcements from across its slate.
We even heard that there will be a second Ubisoft Forward event coming later this year. Here's everything we've learned during today's event:
Far Cry 6
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/12/far-cry-6-reveal-trailer"]
After several leaks earlier this week, Ubisoft officially announced Far Cry 6 for a February 2021 release. The reveal showcased Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian actor Giancarlo Esposito in a new role.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/12/assassins-creed-valhalla-gameplay-overview-deep-dive"]
Announced earlier this year, Assassin's Creed Valhalla has been confirmed for a November 17 release date on Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Stadia. Ubisoft re-confirmed the upcoming adventure is also set for Xbox Series X and PS5, but did not offer a release date for it on those systems.
Oops! Far Cry 6 has leaked a little bit ahead of the official reveal, which is happening later today. Now we know that Giancarlo Esposito is the bad guy. So let’s have some fun with this digital Esposito!
Today Cygames released a brand new trailer of its popular mobile game Granblue Fantasy focusing on the next chapter of the main story.
Apparently the crew will go to a new island where they’ll have to engage in… school life?
That’s a pretty interesting twist, and possibly something fans imagined would have been more probable for a side story, but that’s where the main story is headed.
You can check the trailer out below.
The original Granblue Fantasy is available for iOS, Android, and PC via browsers.
I'm back on my stupid-games-involving-animals bullshit, y'all. As a note to game developers, if you put alpacas, llamas, or pretty much any animal into a game with little rhyme or reason, there's at least a 60% chance I'm going to cover it.
Austrian developer Salt Castle Studio figured that out. They put alpacas in a party game revolved around soccer, and well, here we are.
The Hollywood movie based upon Capcom's successful Monster Hunter franchise has been delayed once again.
As Deadline reports, the complications caused by the on-going COVID-19 pandemic - as well as a competing debut date with hugely-anticipated sequel A Quiet Place 2 - will see the movie's scheduled release slip from 4th September 2020 to 23rd April, 2021.
A brief glimpse of the forthcoming Monster Hunter movie leaked online this time last year. The short 30-second teaser captured off-screen at the Shanghai International Film Festival shows off a fantastical desert backdrop, as well as stars Milla Jovovich and Tony Jaa in traditional Monster Hunter garb. We also get to see one of the real stars, iconic monster Diablos.
The publisher of Deadly Premonition 2, Rising Star Games, has issued a statement to assure fans that the "development team are constantly working on" the beleaguered sequel.
In Eurogamer's own review we revealed that "from a technical perspective, Deadly Premonition 2 is a disgrace", adding "its frame rate could charitably be described as inconsistent, but out in the open world, it's a migraine-inducing single-digit slideshow compounded by stutters and seconds-long hitches".
In response to the numerous complaints about the technical performance of the Switch successor, Rising Star thanked players for all their "feedback" in a chipper tweet before adding: "We would like to officially clarify that the development team are constantly working on improving the title and patches are in the works".
Ubisoft’s big gaming showcase event today will be full of hype for upcoming Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry releases, but it won’t mention the stream of allegations, resignations and overall upheaval happening as a result of weeks of reports about sexual misconduct across many parts of the publisher.
Even if Konami has firmly planted itself on the sidelines, it's a darn good time to be a vampire hunter.
Modern Castlevania fans have the IGA-led Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and classic Castlevania fans have the 8-bit-style Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon. They're both great for different reasons. The former is a satisfying level-grinding power fantasy across a sprawling, secret-filled map. The latter is a single-sitting action-platformer that would've been an ideal rental back in the late '80s or early '90s.
If you've only played one but not the other, you should reconsider. And if you're wondering how much more mileage Inti Creates could possibly get out of its Castlevania III tribute, I have great news.
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 isn't the kind of modernized retro game you'll tear through once or twice only for it to slip out of sight and out of mind, never to be touched again. Over the weekend, I happily cleared the sequel four times – twice alone, twice in local co-op – and it's still calling my name.
An Instagram post has seemingly spilt the beans on when we'll finally be able to play Assassin's Creed Valhalla: 17th November, 2020.
The news was initially posted to the official Assassin's Creed Italian Instagram account, but despite swift deletion, fans managed to snap a screenshot of the alleged leak before it was removed.
This isn't the first Assassin's Creed Valhalla-flavoured leak Ubisoft has been struggling to contain, either. On two separate occasions this week gameplay has leaked, the first showing an assault on the real-life Burgh Castle in East Anglia and giving us our first proper look at the female version of main character Eivor (not counting that special edition statue).
If you’re someone who reaches for your phone as soon as you wake up (other than to turn off the alarm), you may find yourself scrolling through your newsfeed or social media channels out of habit. It can start out innocently enough: quizzes to find out which Golden Girl you are, pictures of your friends’ kids drawing…
Ending their Ubisoft Forward stream with one of their more promising future releases, Far Cry 6 made its official non-teaser appearance today with a full cinematic trailer. "Cinematic" really is the best way to describe it, as Ubisoft is hyping it up as a feature film of sorts, with no gameplay to speak of at this time.
The new location is Yara, described as a "tropical paradise frozen in time," and will deal with youngster Diego (revealed to be played by Anthony Gonzalez of Pixar's Coco fame) and his dictator father Anton Castillo (Esposito). No word on if Diego is going to grow up to be Vaas...yet! You can also play as a man or a woman protagonist, which will put you in the shoes of the cleverly named "Dani Rojas."
It's out on February 18, 2021 on PC (Epic Games Store/Uplay), PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Oh, and you can buy a collector's edition with a (non working!) flamethrower.
We've known about Assassin's Creed Valhalla for quite some time, but during the Ubisoft Forward stream, fans finally got a real look at what the game will look like when it launches. Spoiler alert, it's looks like Assassin's Creed with some dope-ass beards. During the presentation, it was promised Valhalla will have the most enemy types of any Assassin's Creed game and will have a new stun system to help you out in battle. When you're not fighting, you can be constructing your new hometown as these vikings set to establish a new life in Britain.
Following the stream, Ubisoft hosted a 30-minute gameplay demo, which you can watch below.
During today's Ubisoft Forward presentation, the publisher offered more info on its multiplayer shooter Hyper Scape, which is now available in Open Beta on PC.
In 2054, the planet is plagued by a bounty of technology but very little in the way of happiness or resources. To keep the populace of cramped mega-cities distracted and entertained, the virtual world "Hyper Scape" is created, offering citizens explosive multiplayer action and fast-paced adventure with the promise of fame and prizes. But does Prisma - the mega-corporation behind Hyper Scape's creation - have a sinister motive behind the spreading obsession with this virtual past-time?
Ubisoft is mostly known for one type of game: the open-world action game, usually a shooter. Not a lot of people associate Ubisoft with fighters.
Well, Brawlhalla is still going strong and coming to some new platforms within the next month. As part of today's Ubisoft Forward stream, it was announced that Brawlhalla is launching on iOS and Android devices on August 6.
Brawlhalla originally launched on PC and PS4 in 2017, and then on Switch and Xbox One in 2018. Ubisoft says that the mobile versions will have cross-play with everyone, so Brawlhalla is seemingly mixing all of its platforms into the same userbase.
Today on the Ubisoft Forward livestream, the publisher gave us another glimpse at Watch Dogs: Legion while completely sidestepping their current from-the-top-down executive meltdown (maybe they'll address it later?). Oh, and kicking off your stream with a misuse of a Holocaust poem which can only amount to a yikes from me dog.
You can watch the "gameplay overview trailer" below, which shows a lot of stuff we already knew and has taken up roughly 15 minutes of this stream. It's out on October 29 of this year, and coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X at some point.
#BringBackAishaTyler pretty much sums up my thoughts on Ubisoft Forward thus far.
In a summer that's full of publishers and developers announcing games in a scattershot fashion, Ubisoft's time is finally here and we'll be watching the digital event live with the GI Community! What sort of clarity will we get on Far Cry 6? Does the publisher have any surprises in store? Are they going to keep me the world waiting for a new Splinter Cell game?
Join Ben Reeves, Dan Tack, and me as we get those answers and watch what the future of Ubisoft has in store.
We went live earlier but you can catch the full archive of the stream above! And remember to subscribe on YouTube, Twitch, Mixer, Twitter, and Facebook to get notified when we go live.
Ubisoft is hosting its not-E3 stream on Sunday, July 12, and if you show up, you can snag a free PC copy of Watch Dogs 2. You'll need a Uplay account – and there's a limited window – but that's the deal.
As noted in this blog post, viewers will need to tune into the Ubisoft Forward presentation starting at noon Pacific while logged into their Uplay account. Keep in mind, there's going to be a pre-show segment earlier that morning, so if you hop on and you see Trackmania, you're too early for Watch Dogs 2. If they're recapping the announcements in the post-show (starting at 12:45 p.m.), you're too late.
Is this freebie worth the trouble? For some people, definitely. It's a good sequel. It's still an open-world Ubisoft title – something you may not be down for in 2020 – but it's one of the better ones, I'd say.
As for the Ubisoft Forward stream, I can't say we're thrilled about the Sunday time slot.
Screenshot Saturday Sundays! Our weekly ritual returns, gathering us all to summon gifs, screenshots and work-in-progress videos from the murky depths of the game development community. This week: Satan’s personal elevator, wibbly-wobbly firearms, a late-night conversation and powerful amphibious tongues.
Former Ubisoft developers Gabriela Salvatore and Dean Evans have partnered up for a new venture called Beans.
Yes, Beans. Like the vegetable you buy in cans, but only when they're drowning in tomato sauce, of course.
Based in Toronto, Canada, the new studio is already hard at work on an unannounced project which, we found out yesterday, will be published by Devolver Digital. It's currently hiring, too, but even if you're not looking for a new job, head on over to Beans' website anyway, because it might just be the best thing I've seen - and heard - all day.
Yeah winning a last-man-standing battle by bursting your opponent’s head is great and all, but have you ever won a battle royale after your opponent got clobbered by giant fruit rolling downhill? Such is the foolishness of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, a 60-player party game inspired by those wacky TV game shows like Total Wipeout, Takeshi’s Castle, and It’s A Knockout. You know, daft obstacles, unfair traps, falling over – that sort of tomfoolery. And last night, Devolver Digital announced a release date of August 4th.
I'm not sure if this will make your wait better or worse, but if you're counting down the sleeps until Ghost of Tsushima arrives, PlayStation Japan has released a new teaser trailer ahead of the game's release next Friday.
The trailer kicks off with a peek at the Kurosawa Mode - a black and white film grain that mimics the old samurai films of Akira Kurosawa - and then offers an astonishing peek at developer Sucker Punch's open-world samurai adventure.
Here, take a look for yourself (thanks, alt/char):
Persona 4 Golden has racked up half a million players in just a month.
The fan-favourite RPG was surprise-released on PC in June, making it the very first Persona game to have been ported to PC.
"We're excited to announce that Persona 4 Golden has hit 500,000 players on PC! Thank you for all your support!" Atlus West tweeted, along with art especially created by character designer Shigenori Soejima just for the occasion. "We hope you're enjoying #P4G and welcome back to the Midnight Channel!"
One of the most pioneering shmups of all time is ready to jet off on Nintendo Switch this week, as Konami classic Gradius joins the bulging Arcade Archives range.
Originally launched in arcades in 1985, before eventually being ported to numerous home formats, Gradius is one of the best-known and most beloved brands in the shmup genre. Players jump into the cockpit of starfighting vessel Vic Viper, before blasting off into battle against waves of intergalactic invaders, gathering speed boosts and cycling through a range unique weapons while taking down bad guys and a run of intimidating bosses.
NotE3 continues today with Ubisoft Forward at 8pm (noon Pacific). Ubisoft’s notE3 stream promises more on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion, an Hyper Scape, plus “a few surprises”. One of those surprises is already blown, as the existence of Far Cry 6 leaked on Friday. Heaps of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla gameplay footage has leaked too. But hey, you can get a free copy of Watch Dogs 2 for watching the stream.
