Review: Omori

3 years 1 month ago

Content Warning: This game, and thus the review, contains depictions and descriptions of depression, anxiety, and suicide.

Having been Kickstarted in 2014, Omori seems to have gone under many people's radar, myself included. While at a glance, it may be easy to write this off as something chasing the popularity of Undertale. But that does this game an incredible disservice. Sure, plenty of similarities exist, and I do think that fans of Undertale will enjoy Omori, but man is Omori in its own category here, for better or worse.

Crusader Kings 3's First Paid DLC Is the Viking-Themed Northern Lords

3 years 1 month ago
Crusader Kings 3: Northern Lords is a Norse-themed flavor pack that is set to be released on March 16, 2021 as the game's first paid DLC. While this isn't a full-blown expansion to Crusader Kings 3, Northern Lords will still give players "dozens of new stories" and chances to "raid foreign shores, brave harsh winters, or establish a new Viking realm." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=crusader-kings-3-northern-lords-screenshots&captions=true"] Players will have a chance to found a new realm and establish power in foreign lands. Furthermore, Holy Norse warriors, shield-maidens, and poets will be available as new character roles. Since the Norse culture is the focus of this flavor pack, it will allow players to immerse themselves in that world by doing everything from erecting runestones to honor your ancestors to sacrificing prisoners in a sacred blot ritual. There will also be new Dynastic legacies, cultural innovations, and other events that will add depth to these new experiences. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/31/crusader-kings-3-review"] Crusader Kings 3: Northern Lords can be purchased for $6.99 USD or as part of the game's expansion pass that includes a new expansion and another new flavor pack. In our 10/10 review of Crusader Kings 3, we said that it "takes the throne as the new king of historical strategy by expanding on and deepening the best parts of what made its predecessor memorable and unique." EA Disables FIFA Discretionary Content Granting Indefinitely Amidst 'EA Gate' Scandal

3 years 1 month ago
EA has halted all FIFA discretionary content granting for an indefinite period of time as it investigates allegations that an employee, or at least someone involved with EA FIFA, has been selling rare FIFA 21 Ultimate Team items on a makeshift black market for real money. EA gave an update on this scandal, which the community has dubbed "EA Gate," and explained how it has launched a "rigorous investigation" on how this could have happened and how it is narrowing down which accounts received content through this "illicit method." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/06/fifa-21-review"] The company has also made clear that any accounts that have received items that were "transferred nefariously" will be permanently banned. These items, which are meant to be earned through gameplay or other engagement (i.e.

The Community Spotlight 2021.03.13

3 years 1 month ago

Hello everyone and welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight and I, @zombiepie, am once again honored to be your host as we look back at the best user-created offerings from the Giant Bomb Community! As we will review in a little bit, the biggest news from last week is that Giant Bomb is reprinting old t-shirts for a second time! Below you will find links to the thread where you can file requests, and it represents an exciting opportunity to older users on the site. To overseas users who are prevented from joining the fun, the site is exploring its options. However, the big thing I feel like needs to be mentioned is that not every t-shirt in the past can or should be re-printed. Over on Twitter and Reddit, for example, a lot of people have been requesting that the "China Don't Care" shirt be reprinted. I just... I just cannot fathom anyone not realizing why this is never going to happen. Please, for the love of God, read the news and understand that context is everything. I understand many of these requests are coming from a place of love for Ryan, but there are other ways to show how much he meant to you. With that out of the way, let's review the announcements because we have a lot this week!

Bungie hauls Destiny 2's Trials of Osiris offline for the rest of the weekend

3 years 1 month ago

Scarlet Nexus for PS5, Xbox Series X & More Shows Characters, Enemies, & More in New Screenshots

3 years 1 month ago

Bandai Namco’s upcoming brainpunk JRPG Scarlet Nexus is looking more and more promising as new screenshots and details have been released.

As usual, the goodies come courtesy of the game’s own director Kenji Anabuki, who has been posting metric tons of new images with his own commentary. He even provides an English translation for the fans on this side of the ocean.

We get to see one of the Other enemies we’ll have to fight, Auger Sabbat. Apparently, it secretes saliva from… its legs?

The images also showcases how some of the members of the OSF relieve stress, playing squash, and throwing knives.

The “Mid-Air Dash Attack” sure looks flashy, while another image shows the German localization of the menus.

You can check everything out below.

Call Of Duty: Warzone's Mara Catches Cheaters On Twitch, Gets Them Banned

3 years 1 month ago

Alex Zedra is the likeness for Mara in Call of Duty: Warzone as well as a Twitch streamer who happens to play her own game, and she doesn't like it when cheaters ruin the game for everyone else. She managed to catch two players using auto-aim tools while she was streaming, and the exposure resulted in a swift ban. They'll have fewer people to brag to about their "skills" now.

Zedra hosted one of the streamers, who went by the name IcyVixen on Twitch, and she's seen popping from behind a hill and sniping an enemy almost instantly from a long distance away.

Her partner, who goes by the name BeardedBanger, can be heard in a separate clip bragging about his kill-to-death ratio, as well as how quickly he was becoming partnered on Twitch. His gameplay is even more obviously done through cheating, however, and the clip is extremely vulgar, so we won't share it here--if you click through the tweet above, you can see it.

Both players appear to have had their Twitch accounts suspended because of the incident. Bragging about your skill level while showing yourself blatantly cheating on a stream is probably not the best idea. BeardedBanger can be seen in previous game sessions auto-locking onto players' heads so quickly that there is no way it could have been done without software.

Destiny 2: Trials Of Osiris Canceled Yet Again

3 years 1 month ago

Destiny 2's Trials of Osiris event has been canceled because of a technical issue for the third week in a row, despite it appearing that Bungie was finally ready to run the event again. It comes as Bungie looks to curb players engaged in "win trading" by throwing matches on purpose. It's unclear if next week's event will take place.

The issue this time is, according to Bungie, related to "Fireteam Rejoin functionality," which certainly sounds like it's the same problem as before. Trials of Osiris has been available on March 12, but it will not be available through the rest of the weekend.

Typically, it lasts for about four days, giving players the chance to get high-level gear if they can go on a flawless seven-win streak. It's for this reason that players have been throwing games, letting others have a clear path to victory. It's unclear how Bungie plans to stop this problem for good.

If you already received access to The Lightouse area via a Flawless card, you are still going to be able to use it this weekend. You'll also be able to use any of your Trials tokens during this period, so those who already did go on a seven-win streak appear to have lucked out this week.

Crusader Kings 3's first paid DLC is Norse-themed Northern Lords and it's out on Tuesday

3 years 1 month ago

Developer Paradox's superb Medieval grand strategy game Crusader Kings 3 will be getting its first chunk of paid DLC - the Norse-themed Northern Lords Flavour Pack - this Tuesday, 16th March, and it'll be accompanied by a significant free update on the same day.

As its name implies, the Northern Lords Flavour Pack is a smaller-scale offering rather than a fully fledged Crusader Kings 3 expansion, and is designed to make the era's northern kingdoms - and the characters within - feel more distinct.

It will, for instance, introduce a range of new Viking-themed cosmetics, including new clothes and hairstyles for characters, plus new ships, units, and holding models for the map.

Mobster management sim Empire of Sin heads to Xbox Game Pass next week

3 years 1 month ago

Empire of Sin, Brenda and John Romero's mobster-themed strategy game, will be making its way to Xbox and PC Game Pass on 18th March.

Empire of Sin, if you're unfamiliar, drops players into the seedy side of 1920s Prohibition-era Chicago and tasks them with building a formidable crime empire from the ground up. The ultimate goal is to become mob king or queen of the city - a climb that'll require a blend of business savvy, intimidation, and, inevitably, violence.

Bribery and black market trading are perfectly valid tools in your quest for criminal supremacy, and you'll also want to establish protection rackets or set up respectable fronts for all your dodgy business ventures - including speakeasies, breweries, casinos, and brothels.

Crusader Kings 3 Gets First DLC Pack March 16

3 years 1 month ago

Acclaimed RPG Crusader Kings 3 was one of the best-reviewed games of 2020, offering deep system-based storytelling and incentive for starting a new save. The game is getting its first DLC pack, and it's out this week.

It isn't a full-scale expansion, but the Northern Lords Flavor Pack enhances Crusader Kings 3 with Norse-themed adventurer realms, character art, new music, and 3D models, as well as new decisions and events that should add more variety to your gameplay. The Flavor Pack is also included if you have the expansion pass.

Crusader Kings 3 released about eight years after the previous game, Crusader Kings 2, which itself released about eight years after the original game. In the third game, you can form a Middle Age dynasty and control it for hundreds of years, altering history via familial and political manipulation.

You're free to begin as one of several different rulers, as well, including a Roman emperor or an Arab caliph, giving you significant replay value should you choose to start a second game. You can even establish a new religious faction, potentially pitting citizens against each other as they fight for power.

Crusader Kings 3's ambition drew attention from critics, with GameSpot reviewer David Wildgoose praising how its systems work together in our Crusaders Kings 3 review.

Stellaris' galaxy menacing Nemesis expansion gets April release date on PC

3 years 1 month ago

Sci-fi strategy game Stellaris' latest expansion, Nemesis, will be making its way to PC on 15th April, and the Lithoids Species Pack is coming to PS4 and Xbox One on 25th March.

Nemesis, as its name suggests, finally lets Stellaris players properly embrace their dark side by giving them the opportunity to initiate a crisis. Usually these are late-stage events that mark the arrival of powerful AI forces who'll either perish in bloody battle or eradicate all known life, but Nemesis will let human players mastermind the galaxy's devastating denouement themselves.

First, however, they'll need to perform nefarious deeds and accrue Menace, which is used to ascend through the ranks of evil, eventually unlocking the Aetherophasic Engine - a doomsday device powered with the dark energy created by consuming the stars.
