Get Samsung's 85-Inch Q80A 4K TV For $2,400 During Prime Day, Supports 4K And 120Hz

2 years 10 months ago

It can be hard looking for a new TV, what with the copious amounts of jargon that makes parsing the different features a challenge. But Amazon Prime Day simplifies the task a little with some fantastic TV deals, including Samsung's 85-inch Q80A 4K Smart TV that's on sale for over $1,100 off right now. Normally $3,700, the 85-inch model is down to $2,600 (with an extra $200 knocked off by a coupon on the listing), plus you get another $200 Amazon credit with your purchase by using code IX6EQTI5E2T5 at checkout--effectively getting you the TV for $2,400. If you're looking for a massive TV for your game room, this is one of the best Prime Day Samsung deals available now, alongside discounts on the company's smartwatches, phones, and other tech.

The Q80A 4K Smart TV is a new 2021 model from Samsung, and notably, one of its four HDMI ports is an HDMI 2.1 input, which is needed to play games at 4K and 120Hz on your TV. Though it's not a required feature for enjoying next-gen games on PS5 and Xbox Series X right now, it'll let you get the most out of your powerful console. Unfortunately, there's only one HDMI 2.1 port, but if you have only one of the next-gen consoles, that won't be an issue.

The best Prime Day monitor deal is the Samsung Odyssey G7 at 22% off

2 years 10 months ago

There are a ton of great Prime Day monitor deals available this year, but the absolute highlight has to be Samsung's Odyssey G7 monitor, which has been discounted from £550 to £429 - the lowest price we've ever seen it. That's incredible for a 27-inch 2560x1440 QLED monitor that has a 240Hz refresh rate, G-Sync compatibility and a DisplayHDR 600 certification.

This combination makes for a great screen for gaming or watching HDR video, as you get bright highlights, extremely deep blacks and therefore superior contrast - perfect for dark scenes in movies or games. The 240Hz refresh rate is ideal for anything fast-paced and competitive, such as first person shooters, while the 1440p resolution is ideal for the 27-inch screen size. It's incredibly rare to see these specs for anywhere below £500, so £429 is outstanding.

Note that you can actually get the monitor by paying only £422, a further £7 savings. To do this, top up your Amazon account by £50 after opting into the top-up deal, and you'll see that your account has £57. Use this money and your normal payment method to pay for the monitor, reducing the price by £7 overall. If you don't have Prime, you can get a 30-day free trial.

Is Abandoned actually a Silent Hill game?

2 years 10 months ago

Abandoned is an upcoming horror game set in a spooky forest that's coming out later this year. It was revealed back in April, and it didn't take long for folks to start comparing it to Silent Hill - it shares a similar brand of eeriness, plus a setting is reminiscent of early PT teasers. Now however, thanks to odd comments from developers Blue Box Studios, some really weird naming coincidences, and a strong desire for more Silent Hills, people actually think Abandoned could be a new Kojima game.

Valheim's community-made VR mod now has motion controls

2 years 10 months ago

After being interrupted during mining in the Black Forest for the thousandth time, you could be forgiven for wanting to beat up a Greydwarf with your bare hands - and thanks to the work of Valheim's modding community, you now can. Well, while holding VR controllers, I guess.

VHVR is a community-made VR mod for Valheim that was first released back in April, and did a pretty good job of translating Valehim's Viking world into VR (even if players could only move using a standard gamepad or mouse and keyboard). Here's our own Ian Higton trying it out at the time:

Work on the mod continued post-launch, and now VHVR has been given a game-changing update that adds motion control support. Thanks to the work of modder Maddy25 (who apparently almost single-handedly implemented many of the motion control systems), you can now interact with items in Valheim more directly. There's upper-body and finger tracking using VRIK, melee combat, bow and arrow controls, fishing, point and click building, and you can use your hands to interact with the environment. There are also custom VR controls for interacting with menus, along with switching and equipping items.

Save big on Nintendo Switch bundles and software in the Prime Day sale

2 years 10 months ago

It's time! The Amazon Prime Day sale has arrived and there are some great deals on Nintendo Switch bundles and software. While we're still waiting for an official announcement regarding the Switch Pro, these bundles should do a good job of enticing anyone who's still on the fence about picking up a Switch.

All of the Switch bundles in the Prime Day sale are for the neon colour variant of the console, and like a lot of the deals in this year's Prime Day sale, are only available to Prime members.

The best of the bunch is the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bundle for £289. There's also a Ring Fit Adventure bundle with a 15 percent discount. If you're not familiar with Ring Fit Adventure, Robinson called it 'pure Nintendo magic'back in his 2019 review. The game carries an RRP of £64.99 but you can grab it bundled in with the Nintendo Switch for £314.99.

Steam Next Fest: Death Trash is a gristly, gorgeous, and subtly funny RPG

2 years 10 months ago

Death Trash is a silly name, let's get that out of the way. It's a tiny bit Hoxton marketing agency for me, a bit Punk IPA. But do not let that put you off! Death Trash is a looker, in that very vogue, twisted pixel arty kind of way, but it's more than its good looks, and another highlight from a very indie-friendly E3 - and Steam's ongoing Next Fest.

In fact it's actually a very nicely pitched RPG, a Fallout built within indie budget confines. Character creation is flexible - a mix of ages, races, body types and some neat outfits including a cape, love a good cape. You have a set of core abilities - hardiness, strength, finesse, occultism, cybertech, and empathy - governing what you're capable of doing. Most of those are familiar enough, empathy gatekeeping certain dialogue options for instance, cybertech what types of gear you can equip, but occultism is obviously the most curious, letting you summon little living globs of flesh to fight by your side.

It's hard to read too much into how those skills will open the game up, seeing as the demo, part of that Steam Next Fest going on now, is on the short side at around an hour and a half, and running from the very start of the game. But the potential is there. Already, from the off, certain avenues were closed off or at least narrower, thanks to how I built my character towards occultism - obviously - and ranged attacks, neglecting empathy (who needs that in the post-apocalypse?) and lockpicking (or that?). And already I love this, a little opportunity to replay, to circle back, have another conversation again.

The 20 best Nintendo Switch games to play in 2021

2 years 10 months ago

The Nintendo Switch is a sort of inverted version of the Wii or Wii U, when you think about it. While those predecessors all but demanded that games be redesigned to make the most of their strange features, the Switch manages to make old ideas new again simply by allowing you to take them out into the wild. Dark Souls on the tube! Mario at the beach! Tetris everywhere!

While Nintendo's had a thing for portability since the days of the Game Boy, the Switch is also defined by its excellent multiplayer accessibility, and was sold on the unlikely promise of friends gathered together in public spaces crowded around a single screen.

While that might still be somewhat on hold for the moment, one day it'll return, and so whether you're looking for a game for the TV, the commute (remember those?), one of those improbably stylish rooftop parties from the launch ads, or just for laying in bed at the weekend, hopefully there's something for you here in our list of the 20 best Nintendo Switch games.
