Star Wars: The Old Republic ‘Disorder’ Expansion Teased in New Trailer

2 years 3 months ago

11 years after its launch, Star Wars: The Old Republic is getting another brand new DLC expansion following on from ‘Legacy of the Sith.’ It’s called Disorder, and today a new cinematic trailer tees up the adventure to come.

Here’s an overview of the expansion’s key features:

Story

The war between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire spreads to new worlds! Dangerous fringe groups rise in the dark corners of the galaxy and Darth Malgus pursues an unknown plan… Unravel these mysteries and more as your choices continue to shape the galaxy.

Combat Styles

Players can now separate their Class Story from gameplay style for an even greater customization experience. This frees up Advanced Class options as characters can choose any Advanced Class within the Tech or Force playstyle! Play as a Trooper wielding a Sniper Rifle, or a Sith Inquisitor with a lightsaber in each hand, or even secretly use Dark Side powers while posing as a member of the Jedi Order.

Manaan

The Sith Empire has invaded Manaan to seize its abundance of kolto, a vital medical resource on all sides of the war. Battle through underwater facilities for control of the planet with separate Imperial and Republic Storylines. Completing the Manaan storyline will unlock a new base of operations for your faction!

Elom

The story continues on the planet Elom with the discovery of a ruined Sith Fortress that was mysteriously erased from all records. Rumors persist that Darth Malgus–on the hunt for ancient relics throughout the galaxy–may have found something critical to the future of the Jedi and the Sith. This new storyline will be available both as a solo experience as well as a multiplayer Flashpoint!

And here’s today’s new trailer:

New MLB The Show 22 Trailer Details Online Co-Op Modes

2 years 3 months ago

Earlier today, the Sony San Diego YouTube channel released yet another trailer for the studio’s upcoming baseball game, MLB The Show 22. Most of the trailer features the Coach character from past MLB The Show Trailers as well as the game’s cover athlete, Shohei Ohtani. But the trailer also introduces a bunch of Coach’s family while talking about the online Co-Op modes available in MLB The Show 22.

The trailer begins with Coach cloning himself with the voice-over of someone saying, “The only way to become a two-way player: clone yourself.” He then continues to use the machine to make more friends to play MLB The Show with him.

After this short bit, they go into the details of how the online co-op modes will work in MLB The Show 22. Players who want to team up with a single friend can play against another group of two in two-on-two play now games. Or if you have a third who wants to join in on the fun, then you’ll have the option to do three-on-three in online play now mode.

The even bigger news is that you and a friend will be able to combine card collections to create co-op teams in Diamond Dynasty mode. It’s unclear how many friends you’ll be able to have on a single team or if you’ll be able to play by yourself after forming a team with a friend.

After that, the rest of the trailer was just back to the bit of Coach and his clones playing MLB The Show 22 together online. Shohei Ohtani makes an appearance as well.

Yes, Scalebound's Director Really Does Want To Revive The Canceled Game

2 years 3 months ago

Platinum Games recently made headlines by expressing interest in reviving Scalebound--the canceled action-RPG it has been developing for Xbox One and PC until 2017. Though you might think the comments were made in jest, director Hideki Kamiya has confirmed he has serious interest in the game.

Speaking to VGC, Kamiya--who has directed games like Resident Evil 2 and Bayonetta--said he's actually expressed a desire to revive the game "many times," and it seemed like people didn't believe him. He also seemed to troll the interviewer a bit when asked if he was in contact with original publisher Microsoft, neither confirming nor denying it.

"That's something that I thought I'd been saying, or I'd been trying to say for years now," he added. "I've said it in interviews before and gotten no reaction, but now finally I got a big reaction, and I was glad to see that. But no, not a joke: I'm totally serious about [reviving Scalebound], yeah."

Previous problems with Scalebound were attributed to Platinum Games' unfamiliarity with online games, as the project was set to have cooperative gameplay as multiple human characters fought alongside dragons. Since its cancellation, Platinum Games has gotten more experience with online play, including a novel approach in Nier: Automata as well as the upcoming Babylon's Fall.

Paradox launch DLC subscription service for Hearts Of Iron IV today

2 years 3 months ago

Paradox Interactive are notoriously enthusiastic about DLC, often releasing years of expansions and add-ons for their big strategy games rather than leaping straight into sequels. So as an alternative to spending £100-odd for all a game's DLC, Paradox have started dabbling in letting players pay monthly fees to play them. The next game to start such a DLC subscription service is Hearts Of Iron IV, launching today. Like the others, it'll charge £4 per month. Or alternatively, you can still just buy DLC for keepsies.

Legends of Runeterra Patch 3.2.0 Notes: Embark On A Curious Journey

2 years 3 months ago

Riot Games has released the patch notes for Legends of Runeterra Patch 3.2.0, and players have a brand-new expansion--along with four new heroes--coming their way.

A Curious Journey is the name of the new expansion, which will include 48 new cards and conclude the Beyond the Bandlewood set. Among those new cards are four new Champions making their Legends of Runeterra debut: Galio, Gnar, Udyr, and Yuumi.

A Yuumi and Pantheon deck bundle is among the additions coming with Patch 3.2.0.

The other notable addition in patch 3.2.0 is two new keyword mechanics: Attach and Formidable. Units with Attach can "attach" themselves to other units, which will provide that unit with the attached card's stats and abilities. Formidable, meanwhile, can attack using their current Health as their power instead of the Power level listed on the card.

The Legends of Runeterra 3.2.0 patch--including the A Curious Journey expansion--will go live February 16 at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET. The full list of patch notes is below.

Lost Ark 302 Gear: How To Get (And Upgrade) An Endgame Gear Set

2 years 3 months ago

Lost Ark is a tried-and-true MMORPG, and just like any MMO, players will be spending the bulk of their time in the endgame. In Lost Ark, the endgame begins once you've hit level 50 and progressed the main story enough to unlock endgame content like Chaos Dungeons, but that's just scratching the surface. In addition to Chaos Dungeons, there are Guardians Raids, Abyssal Dungeons, new story content, islands to explore, and much, much more.

However, in order to get full access to the entirety of Lost Ark's endgame and continue raising your item level, you'll need an endgame gear set that can be upgraded using the honing system. Endgame gear isn't something you'll obtain naturally on your road to level 50. All the gear you've earned over the course of your leveling adventure isn't up to snuff, and won't allow you to continue progressing your character. Thankfully, getting an endgame gear set isn't all that complicated. There are two main ways to deck out your character with an endgame-ready set. Here's the breakdown.

Netflix Announces the Long-Awaited BioShock Movie

2 years 3 months ago

Netflix is going somewhere beyond the sea after it announced it will be producing a live-action film based on BioShock.

In a tweet, the streamer announced that it will be partnering with 2K and Take-Two on a live-action adaptation of Ken Levine's popular immersive sim set in an underwater city that was meant to house the greatest minds on Earth before descending into chaos.

The Hollywood Reporter says no writer or filmmaker is currently attached to the project, though plans for the movie have been in the works for almost a year.

BioShock was released in 2007 as a spiritual successor to SystemShock. Set in a fictional, underwater city called Rapture, players were mysteriously drawn to its depths only to uncover a shocking history of how a city meant to serve as a safe haven for the rich and powerful became a hell underwater, stalked by terrifying suited giants called Big Daddies.

Considered one of the greatest games of its decade, BioShock spawned two sequels, BioShock 2 and BioShock: Infinite. A new BioShock game is currently in development without creator Ken Levine at a brand new studio called Cloud Chamber.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Character Creator Is Delightfully Bonkers – IGN First

2 years 3 months ago

One of the many defining characteristics of the Borderlands series has been its slate of characters. From the playable to the supporting characters, to legendary foes like Handsome Jack, the many people (and annoying robots) inhabiting the Borderlands universe are among some of the most unique and memorable characters in all of gaming. In Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, you can add yourself to that list of legendary characters, because for the first time in the series history, you can create your own custom character.

OK, it's a little bit of a cheat since you're creating a character to play inside a fictional universe created by one of Borderlands’ most popular characters of all, Tiny Tina. But you still get to choose the look and style of your character and put them through the paces of a Borderlands game – a first for the series. But it's more than just letting you create and customize to your heart’s content; everything about Tiny Tina's Wonderlands' character creation system fits flawlessly into the Borderlands universe, the world of Wonderlands being spun on the fly by Tiny Tina, as well as some deeper tabletop RPG touches you might not expect to find.

Fire Emblem-like Dark Deity Switch Release Date Set for March 2022

Fire Emblem-like Dark Deity Switch Release Date Set for March 2022

Another Fire Emblem-like tactical game is heading to the Nintendo Switch. The Dark Deity Switch port release date has been set. Folks will be able to go through it on the go starting on March 17, 2022.

Like Fire Emblem, Dark Deity is a grid-based strategy game. As you send units into fights, they level up. Eventually, you can even change characters' specialties. Relationships can form as they fight alongside each other. Also, rather than permadeath, characters who fall in a fight take on Grave Wounds that reduce their stats going forward.

When Dark Deity comes to the Switch, it might look and feel different. This is due to some adjustments and rebalancing done between the PC and console release. The 28 maps ended up getting new art. Its equipment and abilities also ended up being adjusted.

There’s also a new Dark Deity release date trailer. The video shows what its story segments, maps, and battle segments all look like. It also shows the relationship-building elements. At the 45 second mark, it starts going over the remastered maps. Also, while the trailer is entirely in English, the game also will include Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish language options.

Sony's New LinkBuds Are Different From Any Bluetooth Earbuds You've Used

2 years 3 months ago

Most earbuds and headphones try to block out any noise that isn't being filtered into your ears through the drivers, but Sony's new LinkBuds embrace outside sounds as a part of its identity. LinkBuds are aimed at listeners who want or need to both hear their private audio and the world around them. The unique earbuds are available to order in gray or white for $180 at Amazon, Best Buy, and Sony.

Given the fact that many of us have traditionally shopped for a solid pair of noise-canceling headphones or earbuds, it's understandable to be skeptical of LinkBuds' premise. Who exactly are these earbuds for? A few examples: Mobile gamers scouring the augmented reality world of Pokemon, parents who want to listen to something other than Sesame Street but still need to be available to hear their children ask for another snack, office workers who can't completely ignore their nearby coworkers, or anyone who regularly only has one AirPod in at once.

LinkBuds have a novel form factor, as they are shaped like an infinity symbol--basically two circular pieces put together. Instead of going into your ear canal, these buds rest gently but securely on your ear with the help of rubber hooks that tuck under the ridge above your ear canal. There are five different hook sizes to help you get the right fit. The lower circle has an open ring design to allow sound to sift into your ears from the outside.

How To Download Cyberpunk 2077's PS5 Upgrade And Transfer Your Save

2 years 3 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077's new PS5-enhanced version is out now, but getting it is not as simple as downloading an update for your existing PS4 version. As we've seen with other games to get an upgraded version on new-gen hardware, you'll need to take an additional step to ensure you download and play the native PS5 version.

Assuming you already own a digital copy of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4, you'll start by navigating to the game on your PS5. From there, select the three dots or click on the free PS5 upgrade box on the right side. You'll then be taken to the PlayStation Store to "purchase" the PS5 version, though you won't be charged for it. (There's also a free trial of the new PS5 version available that you can download until March 15.) With the purchase complete, you can specifically choose to download the PS5 version.

In terms of transferring your save, the process varies depending on whether you've previously played the PS4 version on your PS5. If you were playing on a PS4, it seems you'll need to update that version of the game, which will then allow you to upload a save file to the cloud that can be imported on PS5. This doesn't require PlayStation Plus, as typical cloud save functionality does, but only a single save can be moved in this way; if you have different files at different points in the game, you won't be able to move them all in one go. Fortunately, if you've played the backwards compatible PS4 version on PS5 previously, you can just download the new PS5 version, and your saves will all be present automatically without doing anything.

Dune: Part Two Will Have A lot More of House Harkonnen

2 years 3 months ago

Ever since Dune was released in theaters and on HBO Max last October, fans have been dying to get more of Denis Villeneuve’s take on this epic franchise. Thankfully, it didn’t take long for them to announce Dune: Part Two was already a thing, as they announced it merely a week after the film’s North American debut.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until the end of 2023 for the next installment in the series. To keep everyone happy in the meantime, though, Villeneuve recently spoke with Empire to provide some more info on the second film. In the interview he talked about the difficulties of shooting a movie in two parts, the role the Harkeonnen will play, and his excitement to return to the sands of Arrakis again.

“When you adapt, you have to make bold choices in order for the things to come to life. And I think that was the best way to introduce this world to a wide audience. Now in the second one, I want to have more flexibility, and it will be possible to go a little bit deeper into some of these details,” he explains. That includes introducing characters like Feyd-Rautha – as the focus of the story shifts to characters who played a smaller part last time around. “It’s like a chess game. Some new characters will be introduced in the second part and a decision I made very early on was that this first part would be more about Paul Atreides and the Bene Gesserit, and his experience of being in contact for the first time with a different culture,” says Villeneuve. “Second part, there will be much more Harkonnen stuff.”

“I just want to experience it, be present with it, every single moment of it. “When I shoot a film, I shoot it like all my movies, as if it’s the last one. I will do the same with Part Two.”

Super Mario RPG Director Would Like to Make a Sequel and Retire

2 years 3 months ago

Super Mario RPG game director Chihiro Fujioka wants to make a sequel – and then retire.

During an interview with MinnMax, Fujioka said that he wants to return to Super Mario RPG as his final game.

“So, in my career I’ve been involved in a lot of games and you know, I would really like my final one to be another Mario RPG game, if possible,” he said. “I think Mario & Luigi is cool but I would like to go back and create a Mario RPG where you’re only controlling Mario.”

Asked whether he has any story ideas, he replied: “That is a secret.”

Fujioka is perhaps best known for Super Mario RPG on the SNES but he also joined AlphaDream, working on the Mario & Luigi series starting with its first installment, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

It seems that the original concept was a lot more like early Final Fantasy games. “Super Mario RPG was supposed to be similar to the Final Fantasy games – you were supposed to be looking at the world from above,” he explained. “The final product, of course, you were looking at it from a specific angle. But initially, we wanted the game to look a lot like the earlier Final Fantasy games.”

Super Mario RPG was released in 1996 and saw Nintendo’s iconic plumber step away from the side-scrolling platform action we had come to expect.

Sony Will Plant a Tree for Everyone Who Hits a Specific Horizon Forbidden West Trophy

2 years 3 months ago

Sony is offering to plant a tree for every player who earns a specific trophy in Horizon Forbidden West.

The company today announced a Play and Plant program to commemorate the release of Horizon Forbidden West. Sony is working with the Arbor Day Foundation and will donate one tree to a forest restoration project for every player who unlocks the "Reached the Daunt" trophy in the game.

The initiative covers three different reforestation projects across the US. They are located in Douglas County Forest in Wisconsin, Sheep Fire Private Lands in California, and Torreya State Park in Florida. In Douglas County, the surrounding communities and habitats are at risk as a result of the previous deforestation, which has destabilized the forest's watershed protection abilities.

Sheep Fire Private Lands was chosen because grey wolves have returned to the region after being nearly hunted to extinction. They rely on landscapes like forests to thrive, and planting trees helps to accelerate the return of their natural environment. The longleaf pine population has been devastated in Torreya State Park due to deforestation and natural disasters. This increases fire risk as newly exposed ravines surrounded by downed wood become hotter and drier, thus necessitating the effort to plant more trees.

The promotion ends on March 25 or until all 3 reforestation projects are completed. It is estimated that about 288K trees will be needed for them. The "Reached the Daunt" trophy is unlocked automatically early on in the game's story.

Cyberpunk 2077 1.5 Patch Notes Reveal What's New In The Massive 50 GB Update

2 years 3 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077's massive new 1.5 update is out today, February 15, and it includes a long list of fixes, changes, and improvements for CD Projekt's role-playing game as part of what seems to be the game's biggest and most substantial update since launch in December 2020. This is also the update that adds enhancements for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, including faster load times and better graphics.

The 1.5 patch is a big one, weighing in at around 50 GB, so hard drive space might be a factor for you. The full patch notes can be seen below, but note that they aren't representative of everything in the patch. The developers said during Tuesday's livestream that listing everything would simply be too overwhelming. Instead, the studio chose to highlight what they said are the most important changes and fixes.

The update adds four new apartments across Night City to purchase, including the swanky and very expensive apartment at Corpo Plaza, City Center. Here are the four new apartments:

  • Northside, Watson (€$5,000)
  • Japantown, Westbrook (€$15,000)
  • The Glen, Heywood (€$40,000)
  • Corpo Plaza, City Center (€$55,000)

Additionally, players can now update and customize their appearance whenever they want from inside their apartment or safehouse. Additionally, Wilson's 2nd Amendment store now has new wares, including two new weapons--the Darra Polytechnic Umbra assault rifle and the Budget Arms Guillotine submachine gun--as well as new scopes and attachments.

What's more, the 1.5 update adds new Photo Mode poses, including new rockstar-themed ones for Johnny Silverhand. This update also makes AI generally smarter, while Cyberpunk 2077's driving system has been improved to make handling and braking feel more realistic, among other things.
