Abandoned's director speaks out following cancellation rumours

2 years 1 month ago

Following confusion over the project's future, the director of upcoming PS5 game Abandoned has spoken out about why developer Blue Box deleted various tweets about the game, the status of the game's prologue and his own "heartbreak" about the situation now surrounding the game's release.

Speaking to IGN, Hasan Kahraman of Blue Box Game Studios said the developer had removed older tweets about the game in a bid to keep information surrounding Abandoned up to date. "Basically, the tweets were deleted because some of the concept has changed, and I figured maybe just deleting the tweet and then tweeting more relevant information would be a better idea - which was actually not a good idea," Kahraman said.

"I have learned now just to keep them. Even if the information or concept changed, just keep the older information because people eventually will see for themselves what the difference is and then see what's more actual."

Elden Ring has buffed the big boy with the little horse again

2 years 1 month ago

A new Elden Ring patch has restored some power to Starscourge Radahn, a boss so delightful he has a whole festival celebrating him. A previous patch in mid-March made Radahn a pushover, see, and apparently that's partially because a "bug" caused the intended nerfs to go too far. So, they've fixed that bug, giving Radahn some power back, but still leaving him slightly less mighty than he originally was.

Some Activision Blizzard staff strike as vaccine mandate removed

2 years 1 month ago

Activision Blizzard employees have taken part in a planned strike in protest at the company's recent decision to drop its requirement that in-office staff are vaccinated.

Last week, the embattled World of Warcraft and Call of Duty maker announced it would no longer require office-based staff to have had Covid jabs, while encouraging a gradual return to in-person working over the coming months.

The decision, announced in an email by Activision Blizzard exec Brian Bulatao, was immediately criticised by staff who said it risked employees who may be immunocompromised or who lived with others who are, and was poorly timed as the US faces up to Covid's current Omicron BA2 subvariant.

Off Topic: Between the possible and the impossible sits Carter Beats the Devil

2 years 1 month ago

I finally taught myself the Charlier cut this weekend. It's a card move: a one-handed shuffle in which you basically flip one part of the deck up over the other using the thumb and index finger. I'd been trying to learn it for an absolute age - it's seen as being a deeply simple piece of business, yet I struggled. In the end, there were two reasons it finally clicked for me. The first was a day of telephone calls, which gave me a lot of time to practice, phone tucked between shoulder and neck. The second, and this is quite weird, was switching to using my left hand. I'm right-handed, but for some reason I can only do this cut with the left.

There is often a quirk to learning magic, even the very simple non-magic magic of the Charlier cut. I am bad at card tricks in general, but deeply, perhaps foolishly, enthusiastic: I have learned enough bits and pieces now to know that I should always be surprised at what makes something come together for me.

This sense of surprise is perfectly captured in one of my very favourite novels. In fact, if the mark of how much you love a book is how often you buy it for other people, this must be the book I love the very most of all. It's Carter Beats the Devil, by Glen David Gold. If you haven't read it, today I'm going to try and convince you to pick it up.

A Streamer Has Beat Elden Ring Without Taking Any Damage

2 years 1 month ago

Since Elden Ring came out in February, some players, who apparently don't find the base game difficult enough already, have started looking for ways to make the latest FromSoft title more of a challenge. This includes Twitch streamer Seki, who has just completed the game's very first recorded no-hit/no damage run live on stream, Kotaku reports.

While fellow streamer GinoMachino already completed a no-hit Elden Ring run in March, Seki's version adds another layer of difficulty, where taking any kind of environmental damage or fall damage will also result in having to start the run over again.

SINoALICE Is Getting a Kakegurui XX Collaboration Event this Month

2 years 1 month ago

Square Enix definitely hasn’t slacked as far as updates to their mobile games are concerned. War of the Visions: Brave Exvius recently got its second anniversary and Final Fantasy VI collaboration event, and now it looks like SINoALICE players will have a chance to collect characters from Kakegurui as well.

SINoALICE is a little unique in that it features a story and world created by Yoko Taro, as well as a soundtrack composed by Keiichi Okabe. It certainly invokes a lot of NieR vibes, making it one of the darker gacha games out right now. And that makes it a weirdly good fit with Kakegurui, the popular anime series about high school gamblers who love leaving it all on the line.

You can check out the trailer down below:

The Kakegurui XX collaboration event will arrive in the global version of the game on April 26, while the Japanese version will get it a little earlier, on the 12th.

Players will be able to collect characters like protagonist Yumeko Jabami, as well as other popular faces like Mary Saotome, Midari Ikishima, Kirari Momobami, and Sayaka Igarashi.

SINoALICE is now available on mobile devices.

Lost Ark to Get New Glaivier Class and South Vern Continent in April, Trial Guardian Raids Coming in May

2 years 1 month ago

Lost Ark got its English release just a couple weeks back, and Smilegate RPG certainly hasn’t taken their foot off the pedal when it comes to supporting the game with even more updates and content. The developers posted an overview and content roadmap for April and May today, giving players an idea of what to expect in the coming months.

This month, we’ll see the introduction of the Glaivier, which is a new advanced class for the Martial Artist. We’ll also see the new South Vern continent, which will continue the story and introduce plenty of new NPCs and quests for players to tackle. South Vern is a Tier 3 continent, and players will need an item level of 1,340 in order to get in.

Looking forward to May, Smilegate also promises that players will see the new Destroyer advanced class, along with Trial Guardian Raids which will serve as a new weekly activity to take on. However, the developers also stated that the Deskaluda Guardian Raid and Valtan Legion Raid may end up getting pushed back to a later date, depending on how the community is progressing.

The idea here is to not put pressure on the majority of the player base or to make them feel like they need to grind to catch up, so the release of those raids will likely depend on player progress in May.

Lost Ark is now available on PC.

2 years 1 month ago

How To Cancel A Steal In MLB The Show 22

2 years 1 month ago

In MLB The Show 22, getting caught stealing can deflate an otherwise strong inning and take the momentum out of your offense, so it's important to know how to cancel a steal before your runner takes off, as well as how to retreat once they've left the base but may be caught in a pickle. Here's what you need to know about The Show's complex but fully featured baserunning controls as they pertain to attempting and canceling a stolen base.

How to steal

First, we'll walk you through how to steal, as the button combination to undo that is sort of its mirrored reflection on your controller. We'll be using the game's default baserunning controls for this guide.

To steal with all runners, press LT / L2 as the pitcher begins their delivery. That one is nice and simple. If you need to steal with a particular runner, point the left stick toward their base and press LT / L2. Stealing is all about timing, so don't do this until you're ready for them to go--that's why we say to wait until the pitcher's delivery has started. A bit of a lead off makes for a nice head start too, but lead off too far and you're likely to get picked off, so be careful with how far off the base you go. To lead off all runners, press LB / L1. Similarly, individual runners can lead off if you again use the left stick plus the lead off button, LB / L1.

How to cancel a base steal

Now that you know how to steal, here's how you change your mind, which will no doubt be crucial eventually even if you haven't encountered such an issue yet. Once you've elected to steal, you can't exactly recall the runner, but what you can do--if the pitcher hasn't started their delivery yet--is call for a timeout by pressing down on the D-pad. This will reset all baserunning directions such as lead offs and steals, giving you a chance to rethink your strategy.

Chaos Reign in New Trailer for The Bob’s Burgers Movie

2 years 1 month ago

20th Century Studios has given fans another look at The Bob’s Burgers Movie with the latest trailer, teasing at the mayhem and chaos to come for the beloved Belcher family.

Rather than just be another straight-up animated movie, this outing will be an animated, big-screen, musical comedy-mystery-adventure. Needless to say, we can expect plenty of content for a feature-length film. With the show now already in its twelfth season and more than two hundred episodes, the Belcher family is far from being done.

Here is the official description for the movie:

“The Bob’s Burgers Movie” is an animated, big-screen, musical comedy-mystery-adventure based on the long-running Emmy®-winning series. The story begins when a ruptured water main creates an enormous sinkhole right in front of Bob’s Burgers, blocking the entrance indefinitely and ruining the Belchers’ plans for a successful summer. While Bob and Linda struggle to keep the business afloat, the kids try to solve a mystery that could save their family’s restaurant. As the dangers mount, these underdogs help each other find hope and fight to get back behind the counter, where they belong.

Abandoned Director Explains Tweet Takedowns, and How the Prologue Is a Whole Separate Game

2 years 1 month ago

Hasan Kahraman, director of controversial indie game Abandoned, has reiterated that it has not been canceled, and said more content will come this year – including the game's Prologue, which will be a paid, standalone project.

Speaking to IGN's Destin Legarie, Kahraman explained that the recent decision to delete a number of tweets relating to the game's future plans was a mistaken attempt to keep information about the game relevant and up to date – but it instead led to rumors that the still-mysterious horror game was cancelled.

"I did not see that coming," he explained. "I didn't think that the community would respond that way. Basically, the tweets were deleted because some of the concept has changed, and I figured maybe just deleting the tweet and then tweeting more relevant information would be a better idea – which was actually not a good idea. I have learned now just to keep them. Even if the information or concept changed, just keep the older information because people eventually will see for themselves what the difference is and then see what's more actual."

Kahraman's studio, Blue Box, was forced to put out a statement saying that the game was still in development, and apologized for the lengthy silence around new information. The team said it had "underestimated our development roadmap" and delayed the reveal and release of the promised Prologue.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Review – I Have a Good Feeling About This

2 years 1 month ago

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on PS5

Like two interlocking bricks clicking together, both the LEGO and Star Wars properties have found mutual success joining forces since their first collaboration back in 1999. Spanning books, movies, TV shows, and — most importantly — video games, these two emblematic licences have made a pair of recognizable brands exponentially more recognizable through their partnership. But with Traveller’s Tales’ latest block-shaped outing, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, has the series used the force or fallen to its demise down a reactor core? Let’s jump in, shall we?

First things first, it’s important to note that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is an ambitious project that packs in all nine core movies into one jumbo-sized video game collection. That’s right, each of the respective films from that galaxy far, far away has been lovingly recreated in surprisingly impressive detail. From young Anakin’s descent to the dark side of the force in the prequels to the rise of the Resistance in the original trilogy to the concluding chapters of the sequel trilogy, no stone is left unturned by the UK-based studio.

Upon first booting up the game, you’ll be greeted with an incredibly charming menu popping with nostalgic stop-motion LEGO animation. Here, you’ll be given the option to dive into the first episode of each trilogy, and upon completion, you’ll unlock subsequent episodes in said trilogy. In essence, I’m happy to report that you do get a choice as to where you want to begin your new Star Wars adventure, which is always welcome.

Persona 5 Royal

Reviewed on: PlayStation 4

When it launched in 2017, Persona 5 represented the next evolution of the Persona formula. Persona 5 Royal amplifies the stellar turn-based combat and masterful social mechanics, as well as the complex systems surrounding them. But it also adds new characters, story arcs, and a meaty post-game palace that ventures even deeper into the world’s lore to deliver the definitive way to experience Persona 5.

The gameplay loop of the original remains intact: You hunt for corrupted individuals, infiltrate dungeons based on their personalities, and battle through tons of enemies – all while going to school and developing relationships with various confidants. Connecting with people from all walks of life, learning their stories, and strengthening your bonds remains rewarding from both a character development standpoint and in the way these relationships give you useful perks. Lost Ark Is Getting Two New Classes By May

2 years 1 month ago

Lost Ark is set to receive some major content updates over the next two months, including two new classes previously released in the Korean version of the game.

Those two classes making their way into the Western version of Lost Ark are the Glaivier, a female Martial Artist who wields a spear and glaive, and the Destroyer, a male Warrior class who dishes out damage with a massive hammer. The Glaivier will come in April while the Destroyer will be released in May, according to an Amazon blog post outlining Lost Ark's upcoming content roadmap.

The new DPS classes are just the tip of the content iceberg, with Amazon planning on rolling out numerous other endgame activities and areas in the coming weeks. In April, players will be able to explore the new continent of South Vern. There will also be a number of quality-of-life updates coming this month, like improvements to Secret Maps and Book of Coordination settings, along with new events, log-in rewards, and a Feiton Powerpass that will boost a new character to 960 item level.

Looking ahead to May, Amazon is planning to introduce Trial Guardian Raids as another weekly endgame activity, as well as a brand new proper Guardian Raid in the form of Deskaluda. Amazon is also looking to bring the first Legion Raid, Valtan, to the Western version of Lost Ark in May. Legion Raids require eight players and introduce a number of new mechanics, with Amazon describing Legion Raids as "the definitive Lost Ark raiding experience." May will see further quality-of-life additions like UI updates, improved party finder tools, an update to loot dismantling, and new hairstyle customizations.

Elden Ring: Where To Get Flame Of The Fell God

2 years 1 month ago

If you're trying to track down all of the legendary spells in Elden Ring, you'll need to get your hands on Flame of the Fell God. Luckily, this powerful incantation can be grabbed relatively early in the game by defeating a simple boss in Liurnia of the Lakes. In this guide, we'll tell you exactly where to go to face said boss so that you can obtain the spell and be one step closer to completing your collection.

Flame of the Fell God explained

Flame of the Fell God is an incantation that requires 41 Faith to cast. It summons a giant fireball that explodes after some time and sets the surrounding area ablaze. Due to its slow travel speed, it's really only useful for dealing AOE damage to slower, more stationary enemies. Anything else is likely to evade the radius and waste your FP.

Flame of the Fell God's item description reads:

This legendary incantation is one of several that draws directly from the power of the Fire Giants. Releases a ball of raging fire said to be inhabited by a fell god. Coromon Review – Blast From the Past

2 years 1 month ago

Coromon on PC

It’s hard to talk about new entries in the monster tamer genre without bringing up Pokemon as a comparison, but Coromon — even with a few notable faults — feels like a significantly updated version of those GBA-era games thanks to some unique features that modernize it enough so that it doesn’t lean too hard on its inspirations.

One of the biggest immediate differences here is that, instead of playing the role of a child wandering around the world unattended, you create a character who starts out as a new Battle Researcher in the Lux Solis company. You’re somewhat of a scientist, basically.

You then become a member of the Titan Taskforce looking for mythical creatures called Titans. They’re scattered throughout the land of Velua and your job is to capture six Titan Essences by finding and battling these forces of nature.

What sounds like a straightforward adventure soon becomes something more that involves different planes of existence, otherworldly beings, and plenty of puzzles to solve. The storyline won’t exactly blow you away as you move from one zone to the next and, honestly, it comes second to Coromon’s other bright spots.
